One. Two. Three. Three soon to be dead wolves. Katherine looked down the mythril sights of her carbine. The barrel did not shine against the light for it, like the red hunter holding it, was powdered by the falling Coerthan snow, prone on the white sheets of the land. The day was drawing to a close and she'd have to find her way to warm herself in the night soon. Much and more are said to prowl the highlands and she was not keen to meet them shivering and unfocused. And it showed. A layer of snow shaken off her barrel as she struggled to keep the aim steady at the largest wolf in this small pack of hunters turned hunted. Her ears stung. Her body shaking underneath the tunic she had worn. Confident then that the woolen undershirt was enough to retain heat except that she had failed to mend it from a previous errand she had run. Rips lined the sleeves and the rest of the undershirt itself was near threadbare. However, she was not one to return empty handed. The motto of consortium she worked for rang in her head though the voice that echoed it was clearly different. Male. A very familiar voice and a very familiar tone. If you want it, we can get it. A part of her life she had taken heart. Even as the vessel changed that belief in that phrase did not. Perhaps it had always been a challenge to her. Not a guarantee but a challenge to get whatever it is regardless of what circumstances surround it. In this case it was a wolf skin. Not just any skin but one that would make for a quality output. Katherine steeled herself. Willed the shaking to disappear for only a moment. Ordered her body to be still. And pulled the trigger. A crack akin to thunder burst and blanketed her small part of the highlands. The wolf in the lead toppled as his companions sought out whatever felled their leader. Noses pointed at the Red Hunter's direction. She had willingly obliged the beasts and rose from her spot as the the duo padded toward her breaking off and circling her. Snarls and growls were thrown at her as they tightened the circle. For her part she had pulled a smaller hatchet bound to her waist and held her carbine by the barrel, flicking her wrist after pressing a button on the bottom of the barrel nearer the trigger guard, a long spike protruded from her gun's handle effectively giving her a pick to work with. The wolves moved first, pouncing in unison and the Red Hunter responded in kind, ducking low and poised to let the pick meet the head of one and the hatchet meet the neck of the other. One hit its mark the other missed. A blossom of red forming on the grey sleeves as her arm was swiped by the beast causing her to drop the hatchet. She had not been careful with the pick neither, it had lodged itself to deep into the skull to be prized out immediately though the force of the pounce did move her that only her arm, not her chest or another part of her was swiped by the other wolf. The beast landed on all fours and turned to face the huntress and lunged at her again. Looking sample her with its maw opened wide. She dove for her hatchet and dove at her. Her fingers locked around the shaft, it's teeth sank into her leg. The leather lining useless against the fangs. She howled and brought the hatchet down onto the wolf's head as it started to try and pry her leg from the rest of her. The blade bit into the animal's skull. One. Two. Three. A fire cackled and illuminated the night. The Red Hunter with her prize and bonus sat near it. She would only hope that most of the wood she had hacked were serviceable to the fire. She started at the wood, burning, feeding a dancing flame. There's a darkness in you. It feeds off your fear, your pain, your hate. Much like the beast in you. Her attention shifted to her arm and her leg. The shirtsleeve rolled up to the elbow the pant leg rolled up to her knee. The punctures of were clear against the fire's light. The blood around the holes long dried. She flexed her arm and was greeted with a numbing wave of pain. And yet she found that she reveled in it almost grinning before another thought struck her like a slap across her face. I think you fall in love expecting to be rejected. You fall in love because you know you will be hurt. The grin disappeared from her face. She fixed a sour gaze on her wound and rummaged through her pack pulling out a bottle with a pink liquid. She had uncorked the bottle and drank from it. The pain itself numbed and slowly disappeared. Her wounds no longer flaring with pain when she flexed her arm. She poured the remainder over it and then over her leg. Shaking off the last few drops and then dropping the empty flask into her pack and unrolling the sleeve and leg, leaning back against the snow. An almost defeated crossed her face gazing up at the beautiful Coerthan night. "When the hell did I become addicted to pain? When did I become a masochist? More importantly..why?" Because you need it, Kath. You need it. I need it. Without it nothing fuels...us. It was only ever waking up, Kurt.

If I were to really just label my main, it'd be midlander. If only because Kathe(Formerly Kurt) is probably the only I have who can rp at the moment and the closest to 60. Also because hyur's where it's at >>gets shot<< anyway I guess i just like what I can do with em. Though I voted hyur miq and au ra. Especially the keepers. There's just something charming about /taunt and showing the world that you DO have fangs.

I call bs with the way he treats Ramen. *couldnt resist.* On the subject of Ramen's fears...well she's afraid of losing the people who mean a lot to her. (Like the person quoted above and his sister)
-
Ah yes, fears. Kurt fears anything with more than four legs or sometimes no appendages. Though he keeps a good lid on it and would casually nope away. Then I turned him into Kath. And she will lose her shit seeing one. The big ones arent as scary as the really tiny ones that make disappearing acts and causes her to abandon her room for periods of time, under the guise of some phantom 'task' she was given. How does she cope with it? She doesn't. She wont even touch it with her axe, preferring the safety of her carbine. No one's seen her lose her shit...yet. Cured? Her fear is not a disease. That cockroach is a disease and bullets are the cure. "Oh hey...a...spider...and another one.......I should probably write a fake venture request on my bell and put oh...malms between me and my room. I'm sure the rest'd understand."

Coming from someone who uses it and makes it canon on one of their characters. Yeah I pretty much acknowledge it if it comes up. But everyone I RP with are so lore compliant it never has. I'd talk about shapeshifting (because there's glamours and sylph magic, etc) but we're on the topic of fantasia, the drink. As long as they can sufficiently back their identity, I'm fine. The crazier the change, the more proof that's needed. A genderbend? Sure, kind of difficult to wrap the head around. You were a lalafell but now a roe? I'm going to need a boatload more proof. And I usually don't follow that philosophy on my fantasia'd character, opting to really just assume a new persona unless with people they know. Which probably burnt bridges/caused people not to wanna RP with me no more, not even the other three I own. I'm sorry, I'm in the wrong, I shouldn't have done that, but those are all beside the point for this thread. Anyway... Ramona would laugh, laugh and backpedal away from you or poke fun at you. 'Shapeshifting from a drink? Do you believe this guy?' Yes she will be condescending. Kurt knows your pain. 'Yeah...I've been there.' Nah would buy it too since it's come up with one of the rp's she's been in wherein character A who wanted fantasia asked her to ask character B, who she knows, to go brew A some. So I thought, might as well. Khujin would probably buy it. To her, just because this fantasia shtick does not exist in Othard doesn't mean there wasn't someone was crazy enough to concoct it somewhere else and brought it to Eorzea or someone in Eorzea itself made it.

Looks like that speed running blm could use some...salted earth hueh
-
Love it when Balmung agrees with me and my crappy internet and lets me rp or otherwise screw around with a character.
-
So that was interesting buuuut khujin's been found yaaaay. Of course, she's still based in Costa for now.
-
EXCEPT I ALREADY PLANNED HER TO WASH UP On THE BLOODSHORE TWICE. Or the Bloodshore and Crescent Cove....
-
Yeah i think that should work also the time's changed to like 1am. I shoukd get to updating that
-
Friday evening would be worse for me, again GMT+8 or count 12 hours forward from EST. I mean I have unfortunate circumstance of saturday classes.
-
I think that'd be nice. I still have yet to figure out her disposition to other non-Tumet Xaela and Raen as a whole though. He'll have his patience and his awkward curiosity! I should be around and fully available on Saturday afternoon (EST) if you'd like to meet up then. Any chance you could make that a saturday evening? But hey I can skip sleep if I have to though
-
Aaaand after some tweaking my current roster consists of Ramona Spencer, professional attention seeker extraordinaire Kurt Steel, Warrior, machinist, all around gopher featuring cook Nah Amariyo, The aspiring villain turned aspiring hero Khujin Tumet, She who gives no straight answer.
-
Khujin Tumet. And I'm also about ready to rp a bit of a language barrier. Hopefully jad brought his patience huehuehue. I'll do my damndest to make it interestin
-
Of course giving me some est based dates and times would be nice since I'm usually 12 hours ahead of est
-
Go right ahead. Just a heads up that not everyone could recognize an au ra yet. I mean they are a relatively fresh race who just got into Eorzea. Granted, I guess with character backgrounds it's possible that your guy knows what she is anyway before I start derailing my own thread. Please, that'd be nice, I don't mind if you're new to the whole RPing shtick.
-
So let me keep this short and sweet, my au ra washed up on the Bloodshore, yanno that stretch of beach next to Costa where the Bloodshore Bells spawn. Naturally she got separated from her Tumet friends but that's beside the point. Just wanna know who could maybe stumble on her or sumtin, just please don't kill her under the pretense of 'ahh demon ahh voidsent.'

If you're referring to my posts I point you to this handy-dandy tl;dr I put at the bottom tl;dr sometimes OOC player writing skill holds back the character's IC skill. So OOC leveling and achievements could help make your character a bit more credible in whatever they do. Unless you're Hamon Holyfist. If your knowledge on how to work metal is lacking but your character is a master goldsmith, the divide might just be noticeable. Again, OOC achievement is there to help credit the character, not an end all solution. Especially if you're none too familiar with inner workings, but then 'why make a character like that if you don't know how to do what they do or have no knowledge of it?' I unno, player preference. Sure reading more can help immensely or finding actual RL opportunities to get hands on with the subject matter would help too, barring asking advice/methodology from people who actually do it. I'm only using combat as a general and very common thing in RP.
-
Also just one more reason why I think OOC achievement is kind of important. Because of you're like me and your extent of combat writing in general is smaller than the width of your pinky, but you're playing a character who is, let's say a war scarred veteran, you want to validate that. Except that again, a rat's ass is broader than your knowledge on how to show that power. I mean sure you get better over time, as you practice, which I haven't been doing. But I think that works better with a fresh faced adventurer whose grasp on fighting is about on par with your own. When you know no shit. tl;dr sometimes OOC player writing skill holds back the character's IC skill. So OOC leveling and achievements could help make your character a bit more credible in whatever they do. Unless you're Hamon Holyfist.

I guess I'm of a different branch here. I mean if I level someone I'll try to reflect all those hours I spent to get there. If I have a crazy rare weapon, I claim it as a replica at best, something inspired by but not really the actual thing. That demon armor he's toting? Totally an inspired design by this armorer he knows. But the point is I reflect it and not just hide it to make it look like your everyday run of the mill steel set because RP said so. I didn't spend hours upon hours of run and runs of WoD just to hide it or not use it. Of course when it comes to skill level, I try to reflect that too, give or take cut it in half. Sure, Kurt's a warrior, he can swing an axe and all and he's got the inner beast shtick. But can he control it? No. Does he fight like a fighter? Hell no, he's an animal, screw finesse. Granted, I've only combat rp'd a handful of times. I try to level what's relevant to the character. She's a lancer? Well by god, Imma level DRG to 60 on her and no other classes than the bare necessity to get to Dragoon. Even if it means several characters instead of that one god character I spent hours and hours 50/60'ing classes he's not even gonna use or reflect IC. But that's probably me being fickle, I tend to get bored looking at the same face day in and day out. So yeah what level they are OOCly is kind of important at least for how I play my characters.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Kurt S. replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Rant. Sure my problem's definitely attributed to my location and time. But seriously queues...what in the flying fuck are you doing? No, not queues to get into balmung I've come to terms with that. What I mean is what fuck is up with all of these dungeon queues. I just cant seem to find dps to run haukke with. Yes, fucking haukke fucking normal fucking mode. Yes I know everyone wants to be a fucking bleeding edge dorge knight, hell im one of those fucks. But seriously? No one fresh enough to come in as a blm, drg, mnk, brd, smn or nin? No one remotely interested in mch at all? Maybe there are a lot who are/do but my timezome just doesnt fucking agree with it. Honestly this ticks me off worse than the connection errors I have to balmung and even my shit internet in general. Fuckadoodle doo /endrant Sorry, going on 3 hours sitting in queue with no luck is just frustrating. I mean did they swap Haukke manor for the frontlines or wolf's den while I wasnt looking? I'll just step away from Tanking for a week or 2. -

Also, just a reminder, better cash in your registration codes or you'll be throttled back to ARR status instead of HW status at the end of the EA. Good luck finding your codes... Your preorder codes are just for the EA BWAHAHAHAHA -
Khujin Tumet. aka she who pulls knives out of her ass. aka she who talked the tree to let her go. aka she who called on a 'coeurl' to slash the rope for her. aka she who told sun to burn the rope. aka she who turned to water and escaped the tree. And the lesser known 'girl with the many rope burns.'
