  1. As i just got a new modem from my ISP setup the other day after finding out from a notice they sent me about 'increased' speeds in my area, etc etc and how my old modem may not b able to utilize them, well first i ran a speedtest to check and figured since i was already debating some additions to my network n such at home. As to my setup. Currently my pc is hardwired to the net, well Via a wireless router. I have a ps3 and 360 as well as occasional 3dsxl/Vita/psp wifi access, another pc on the other side of the home, my phone when i use the wifi on it , and a rarely used laptop. The only thing hardwired in currently is my main pc. The router is a Linksys, though at this poin it is quite old, which also brings me to one of the key things I'm looking for input on. Its a Wireless G router. I only recently started looking into the differences between G and N on wireless routers, its my "highly uneducated" impression thus far that N is for the most part superior in security, signal strength/range and stability/speed over G? Am I gathering this much correct so far? If this is true, this also has me curious if whether using Cat6 ethernet cables for any or all of the following; Main pc connection(currently connected via Cat5e to router/modem) 360, and/or ps3 would provide faster/stabler speeds/connection vs upgrading the to a wireless N router or along with upgrading to a Wireless N for the sake of boosting the connection with the pc on the other side of the home as it has currently low signal strength via wireless connection to the router currently. Since my ps3 is going to likely see an increased usage for constant online access since my gf will be using it to play FFXIV when it comes back out*random cheers* i figured id look into making sure ive got the best/stable net access going as i can using any of the above mentioned ideas. Hopefully the post is mostly understandable, networking is definitely not my strong point lol. Thanks in advance to anyone with advice.
  2. Ah so i remembered the LS # right and that 128 player per LS sounds accurate as well. The Wanderers Shadow does sound like it has a good background to operate from a Linkshell perspective for sure. It's kind of the top of my list of random Linkshells ive scouted to consider....not that ive scouted others yet besides my making 1 or 2 random ones for my own use just in case i find i would like to have a few to my own name and want to get ahold of names just in case lol.
  3. So as it stands now, This is still a Linkshell? Or is it or are u planning to have a Free Company in place of a Linkshell or possibly both? Since i know the Max # of folks allowed in Linkshells I "think" is fewer then in Free Company's i was curious. I kept this thread subscribed as the concept when I originally came across it seemed pretty cool and appealing. I'm not sure i'm up to jumping into ANY Free Companies right away post launch. I'm a bit of a loner and ive only made exceptions on rare occasions in joining RP crews in the past and that was only after observing some of the stuff they did in game and feeling out the various members through random convo. But if this is still set for now to be a Linkshell at Launch at least I dont see why i couldnt take interest in it since we are allowed up 8(correct #?) Linkshells I may b willing to keep a Linkshell spot open to check this one out
  4. hmm, well are we specifically going with classes or jobs in this case? Course im not sure how to split these up but i'd totally b game for seeing Ninja, Dark Knight, a Beastmaster or some sort of melee/pet class, the Red and or Blue Mage and Thief. in this case I think Thief as an example could be a good idea for FFXIV's class/job setup and be a class that acts as one of the pre-requisites toward Ninja perhaps. I'm glad there are several classes already in game I like and can enjoy so I should b content while they bring out others later on.
  5. My receipt had a code, i already had an existing 1.0 account but i opted to add the ps3 copy to my account as well because i wanted the physical collector edition goodies that came with ARR. i do hear alot of folks dislike and/or have issues with various gamestops. I guess I've gotten lucky though as the ones I Deal with ive been dealing with for years and trust the folks at them, most regular ones know me by name and my interests/tastes and based on that when they talk about the stuff i can generally feel out if they really know what they're talking about. My GS's have good people, its a shame that they can't all be like that
  6. Sadly after picking up a job back in march, i kind of miss my gaming time when i was unemployed. since i work 8am-4pm EST mon-fri it cuts down on my weekly time to game or enjoy an mmo, which is further broken up a tad bit as i kind of keep myself somewhat on alert incase my granpda needs help w/something or something falls/drops so i cant 100% focus and commit to solid mmo time mon-fri, well mon-thur. friday-sunday is usually clear tho i do spend most every weekend w/my gf over. On that same hand tho she has expressed an interest in FFXIV after the various pics/vids ive shown her then she made a character on my account during the previous beta and enjoyed it. We are likely getting her set up with her own copy and she'll b able to play here w/me on the weekends using my ps3 while i play on the pc or vice versa lol
  7. quite true. Similar to when i would just screenshot selection options in other mmos when I don't have the option to save the appearance so i can reference the options again later lol
  8. Was curious about this as well, yay search feature. I wanted to grab a few shots instead of using my phone to snap a pic of my monitor screen lol. On a random note i did notice higher bench scores when i shifted from borderless windowed mode to fullscreen.
  9. I'm assuming ps3 folks sadly won't have the option to do so until phase 4?? I just happened tot hinka bout it while i create and play around with some concepts for tweaking my character from 1.0 on the character creation benchmark and wondered if there was a way to use it, make a sample character that could b loaded into the ps3 version at launch like what pc users will get to. Im playing on both so it doesnt quite affect me but I happened to think of it considering not only am I sure ps3 folks wouldve loved to have the option but because my gf expressed an interest in the game when I let her check it out via my account on the last beta phase. Tho i guess the Open beta phase is still good for doing that a bit early before official launch. /randomrant off
  10. If memory serves, that is the same armor as will be displayed in creation when you set it to showing you in "Job" gear, so if it's just to see the gear in the intro cinematic you can do that without having to leave character creation. Ah, i didnt remember the job gear option being selectable during hte last beta phase i checked out so wasnt sure, that'll be handy then, thanks for the response Ah for our Chocobo, i see, I saw we will have bardings and such for them, thats a nice touch. I never made it far enough to have a Chocobo companion of my own in 1.0 . Cant wait :chocobo: The was a lot of stuff regarding the Chocobo Companion that wasn't implemented yet, for example we got access to every stance because they didn't have the Companion skill tree setup yet. Once the game launches, or possibly even in B4, you'll have to spec your Chocobo a certain way, determining whether it will be DPS, Tank, or Healer, and you'll get to customize different traits about it, give it new spells, etc. I'm not sure how the class barding will work (possibly a reward for unlocking a class) but there has been concept art for it since last year.

  12. But its exciting in that it means ull get to play the gorgeous FFXIV
  13. Holy hell, I had no idea we were getting housing! that is just, yes! as if i wasnt even more in anticipation for launch, that discussion just made it worse. I'm loving that we will be seeing a Barbershop feature a bit after launch. I'll make sure to use my initial free full over appearance change to make any(if any applicable) major changes that wont be covered in the Barbershop feature and then just jump into the gorgeous Realm of Eorzea. yay! some of the talk of the Grand Companys reminded me i know NOTHING about them or their styles and the gear that each has. <--some homework for me to do after work between now and next weekend Also, Companions? were these in 1.0 , was that what i vaguely remember something about after a point in our story related quests we'd get some sort of follower like ally that would b able to join us on some quests? On a random note : Im going to have to do a few random character starts with different classes during Open beta. Just for the sake of seeing the gear we end up in during that brief intro cinematic based on our class choice lol
  14. So far the only thing i tweaked after toggling to maximum was various shadow settings only. and even then my bench scoring varied. either way, all my averages have been high enough and over 8.5k that im not to concerned and just happy i will really b able to enjoy it. Last few years of pc upgrades ive usually done slightly more budgeting so i didnt get as good of things as i may have wanted in my rig. I was able to spoil myself with a damn nice gpu and just felt a bit giddy lol
  15. Woot, going to have to start reading through these translations between tonight and tomorrow evening after work, cant wait, its so close!! Also like the brief summary i saw on the lodestone regarding the veteran reward system they are going to have. *cheers*
  16. Hmm, i think i set up most of this current rig about a year ago, didnt need to update it and the old exploration bench scored around 4.7kish , using a 6950 radeon. the new card i got i went after a 7970 GHz edition, that on the new bench shot me up to the 8.8-9k range. on the old bench it scored 6.3k ish, benchmark runs smooth as butter now. As to 2 video cards vs one, that i dont know, ive never doubled up on gpu's before, never felt a need to when ive built n upgraded my rigs and i always build mine to where they seem to perform well for 2yrs minimum. It may depend on a combo of ram/gpu/cpu as well. Would probably depend on what you have on each of those
  17. I thought they did a pretty slick job on the UI and control scheme for a gamepad on the PS3 myself, saw the dev video showing it, which convinced me to test it out on the last beta on my ps3 , then decided it was worth buying a PS3 CE to go with my 1.0 pc CE lol
  18. Shame about not being able to play Don't by chance have a ps3 do u? Yea, one thing ive learned throughout my mmo gaming experiences is one of the harder hitting things to performance, shadows lol, lighting/ambient lighting can do it too. I realized i didnt 'need' a new gpu, my other one ran on HIGH i think score wise off the exploration bench , the new card ran very high, but then ran higher on the newly released benchmark, which i assume is due to better optimization. Either way, If i was good to go before, hell yes i cant wait to play it now, and on both platforms . Note: I dont blame u for downloading it to mess with the character creation to hold u over. I wouldve done the same. lol
  19. Its rare that i ever bother making a thread or post someplace using a meme of ne kind but i couldnt help it. Outside of my excitement for getting back into the game to give it another go on top of being able to get myself a new video card to really up my gaming rig and playing with the benchmark. I broke that 9k barrier, woo8-) Since the results always fluctuated a bit. using my character model with the default starter racial clothes in the benchmark, i had went from running an 8.5k+ with all the settings toggled straight to MAXIMUM, certainly a satisfactory score and assurance i made a good gpu purchase. I thought.. its soooo close, so i dropped 2 of the shadow settings one notch each down. ran again. scored 8995 lol. thought.. hmm, how to keep this gorgeous game looking gorgeous while seeing where to boost performance. Tweaked another shadow setting and that did it 9017 off the next run. lol Totally pointless post other then i needed some sort of outlook for my hype/excitement level and no one else i really know would understand those feelings toward this game lol. My god when is that open beta Drinks for all for reading my shameless post lol
  20. I suppose i can use the character creation to make a few concepts of my 1.0 character. shame we can't import our 1.0 model into this to tweak it, but since we were told we'd get a free shot at name change and altering appearance at launch i can just sit here n play with variations of what i might change or tweak on Niteshade prior to launch8-)
  21. Huzzah, i guess they've optimized the client and benchmark software quite a bit. I just ran the new basic benchmark included in the character creation stuff and just hit maximum for settings and my score blew my old one away lol
  22. Not sure, i use an android phone myself and its in the app store. Not sure if theres an iPhone version myself.
  23. Ah, i wondered. Ill certainly keep my ARR one tucked away in a safe place then. Anyone used the Security App? I do think after ARR launches they should totally pretty up the App with lovely Eorzea imagery n such. Id likely switch to the app in a heartbeat if they did.
  24. I still ahve my working 1.0 Security token tied to my account from the original launch, I know i'll have another once ARR comes out and I found myself tempted to grab the App too. Does this mean that i should just keep the ARR token tucked away in a safe place ? Since I cant see having 2 or 3 security tokens and or app tied to my account being required or potentially cause problems?
  25. I got the key registered to my square enix account, when i went into my services/account page to verify i noticed that i have FFXIV 1 and 2 for services, 2 being the one that the open beta key was for. I just assumed it would fall in with the original instead of making a seperate listing, *shrug* as long as everythings tied to my singular SE account i'm good though.
