If it were me, as a temporary solution at least Id create an additional linkshell for the 1? say u have "Friends of Balmung" as a linkshell, u could create "Friends of Balmung 2" or "More Friends of Balmung" of course its a bit of a pain depending on the # of players you end up with in the linkshell and all that. Its just a random thought though.

Anyone familiar with Networking? Modem/routers, etc
Niteshade_Rune replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
the price on that SMART model off newegg looks reasonable to me. Just need to find some additional Cat 5 or 5e ethernet cables and I'll be good to go. think I'll try and find a network card over the weekend so i can get everything ordered soon -
Probably for the best considering ARR stats are absolutely nothing like 1.0 stats. Whole new animal. I had a feeling stats n attributes were different, i at least can pull up the tooltips in game. I doubt i'll touch stats or ne thing during open beta anyway. just go get the inventory and armoury chest sorted. do some sightseeing and harvesting lol. Edit: looking over those stat listing above, wouldnt it be feasible that i could opt for a good parry boost to a melee class by raising points in the stats that affect parry along with utilizing any gear buffs or what have u to do so? In a way I guess looking at what stats would affect me defensively, ive always figured myself more the Evasive tank type then just sit there with a shield, i hate shields generally , and even back in something like FFXI i only made the exception to touch a shield that was one of the small 'buckler' types i think. But I wondered if it'd be possible to create a character in ARR that may be able to say have, a focus on HP and parry/evasive ability? But I'm definitely going to want to take some notes heh. I like having things to reference as i develop my characters. I'm no min/maxer so I'll find whatever works for me and have fun doing it in the end. Thanks also for those vid links, props to u all

Woot, good to be back(mostly, since what we've got going on this weekend carries to official launch lol) I decided on 1 thing, bring my 1.0 character back as a new starter class for 2 reasons. 1. I wanted to still start him off in Limsa Lominsa and 2. Since if i saw right on the summary of the Phase 4 patchnotes we should return any classes we previously utilized/unlocked, and since well... theres a new class that wasnt in during 1.0 which also starts in my favorite city-state it seemed like a no brainer..and well Carbuncle <3

So I noticed back when I added the code for my ps3 beta test during phase3 on my square enix account that it now shows FFXIV1 & FFXIV2 on my account listings. 1 Is my original 1.0 Account. did anyone elsee notice something similiar in their account page? I just want to make sure that when i get the ps3 version code resgistered to my main account so.i can access my character from either pc or ps3 everything is good to go.

I would personally say that using a Dual Band Router is kind of useless if you aren't going to utilize it's wireless capabilities. Honestly you would be fine with something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124479 BUT if you want Gigabit ethernet for your network data transfers, I would recommend the SMART Linksys EA2700-NP. I think that would fit just fine. for the pc i have across the house if i go with that smart linksys I'll have to make sure its wireless adapter card will work with it correct? -
Hmm, seems alot of folks here are using Tumblr for stuff related to the game. I've debated making an account but not really sure if i'd ever really use it. Maybe I'll make one for my character and if i like it set up a regular one later on.

I'll have to read over this after work tomorrow while i finish any required client patching, I wanted to find a place to take a few notes on stats/attributes . Been so long I cant remember anything from 1.0 lol

Legacy Players: Keeping Old Character or Starting Fresh?
Niteshade_Rune replied to Salty Lake's topic in FFXIV Discussion
While undecided, i suspect my 1.0 character will return as my main, with some visual tweaks using that free 1 time of changing my whole appearance. Tho only a few slight variations, mainly anything that wont be easily changeable via the eventual barbershop type feature post launch. SO voice, face, height etc I think i have come up with some overhauls to thanks to that wonderful character creation benchmark. I don't mind keeping him as my main mainly due to not only wanting to keep the assorted things i acquired, had some of the older 1.0 seasonal things and ingredients to craft some of the seasonal event things i wanted to not lose, as well as the fact that progression wise he was only at an overall lvl of 11 which i confirmed when i poked into the phase 3 beta. So I dont mind learning the game over anew with him. I'm not quite sure if i will utilize additional characters or not yet as my gf has taken up a possible interest in the game so I dont know if i will just play alongside her and help out using my 1.0 me, or have both him and a fresh one on standby just in case yet. -
Throw in Ninja and Beastmaster and this sounds like a wonderful list heh. I do think tho weaponry wise, we totally need a greatsword or dual blade/weapon using class first. the greatsword is one we are certainly lacking. Nothing against the Marauder and the 2h axes. I'm partial to swords, my fists and scythes tho heh. I used gladiator back in 1.0 and never touched a shield, just bladed away with a free hand heh.

Well at most to start and during my getting my Eorzean adventuring feel back I would have to stay away from ANY Free Companies, course I'd totally be willing to consider looking into a pearl for the linkshell aspect once the game is back up again. Well for relics n the like, it wouldnt be abnormal at all for a freelance adventurer/courier/recovery service/adventurer etc to delve into places that may hold relics and the like for one reason or another 8-)
-
An Inn/Tavern are certainly places my character would be seen in from time to time for the reason of offering his services or or looking for jobs as long as they dont go against his sense of honor or morals. Freelance Adventurer types+Taverns make for a feasible mixture after all heh
-
Woot, its almost upon us!!! i swear the only thing i'm wanting that I wont get is a few weeks of vacation time at my new job so i can take a few days off around laungh/early access time to just bask in Eorzean glory lol:moogle: Thats cool, theres a command toggle for headgear w/visors. This is minor but i think its a cool addition. This along with being able to toggle from basic stance to combat stance(sheathe/unsheathe) while minor 'fluff' type things that dont affect gameplay in the slightest are things I love seeing personally heh.

Niteshade_Rune replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Thats about what I was figuring from my limited knowledge as far as hardwired go. Mobility isnt an issue, my current room/dwelling where all but 1 thing accessing the router would be are all 25 feet or less from the router. so hardwiring the consoles and pc would be cake. It'll just be a matter of hoping the N and possibly a new wireless card would solve the issue with the low signal strength from the lone pc on the other end of the house. since one of the brands on newegg at least that ive seen alot of(Rosewill) don't seem to have any Cat5e Cables, are their any other cable brands anyone would recommend? Belkin perhaps? Figure when i get a new router I should get all my cabling all at once as well. Edit: Hmm, If i'm willing and able to commit the extra $ should I bother to go after a Wireless N Gigabyte router? -

Thanks for the replies already! hmm, as to the mention of the price for Cat6 cables, i know they looked pricey at a local bestbuy, but I also use Newegg for a large assortment of my pc related purchases. They do happen to have several Cat6 cables for less then 5$ with bulk discounts. But if there isnt a HUGE difference between the Cat 6 and Cat5/Cat5e then I suppose getting some Cat5 should suffice then? Would you think id see a noticable difference in having my consoles hardwired to a new N router over a wireless connection. I assume that a hardwired connection is going to be more stable as well. Edit: by the time i posted this the 3rd reply was up. I'll do some checking around my usual places of purchase . Ive never had issues with Linksys, and i know some router brands can cause issues with ISP's due to IP address problems and such and it had been to my understanding that Linksys was one of the router brands who didnt really have any conflicting issues with ISP's, at least mine anyway. Got me some homework to do. I think I will see about getting a new router for sure. I dont need top of the line, or want to go the cheapest, so ill shop around on some good bang for the $ models and pick up several cables to just have around in case. Will need to also see about digging up the info on the wireless card in the pc on the other end of the house to see if it'll work with an 'N' Router signal. -
This is the second group ive seen on here that has caught my interest. both from an OOC standpoint as well as IC. I will add The Raven's Eye Inn & Tavern onto my listing of 2 now groups to look into once we are all adventuring in Eorzea again.

Youmacon? i'm going to have to google that, i just noticed this thread was referencing my homestate lol. I'm over by Grand Rapids/Jenison. I dont often notice other folks in gaming out of the same general area/state as I am heh.
