1. Just a little reminder that we'll be setting up our stalls in Goblet Ward 3, just outside the main aetheryte, in about 8 hours.
2. Once again, thank you all for coming last night! Congratulations as well to our contest winners, X'raena Tsunhe, Ciciru Ciru and Rufus Wightman! You all had fantastic costumes, very impressive! We'll see you all again in a fortnight; in the meantime, have some screenshots.
3. Thanks so much for hosting this! The walk was really spooky, and the music gave it just the right creepy touch. I had a great time!
4. With the costume contest over, we're closing up a little early tonight and heading over to the Rendezvous Kimodameshi! If anyone is looking for us, that's where we'll be shortly!
5. Sounds great! Can you invite myself (J'inarah Marad) and Aeron Volkova to represent Jackal & Hide please?
6. With the Celebration of Autumn Stars occurring at the same time as we had planned to put on the next crafts faire today, we've decided to push it back to 1 November and not force people to choose between events. Also, our very own Odette Saoirse is going to be performing there so head on over to Gridania tonight and check it out! Hope to see folks on 1 November!
7. I'm in the UK and never really had any problems with latency. NIN is my main and I can count on one hand the number of times I thought "wtf I totally dodged that!" after getting hit by aoe. As for RP, as I've said many times before, the spread of NA and EU players on Balmung means you can find RP almost any time of the day or night. So no, I don't have plans to transfer elsewhere. That's just me, of course. If you're really struggling with latency then by all means, go where you need to go to enjoy the game!
8. This is what happens when you venture into Ul'dah alone.
9. Hello and welcome from the UK! If you're about tomorrow, the Sunny Seaside Bar is going to be at the Flames Festival in Silver Bazaar tomorrow from 7 pm BST. The bar is an EU-friendly timed event so you can probably make some connections with fellow EU players there!
10. Just a little reminder that yes, we are opening on Saturday, but we'll be at the Silver Bazaar in Western Thanalan to provide the food and drinks for the First Annual Flame Festival! See you all there!
11. I'm not sure what kind of EU RP community there is on other servers but Balmung's is definitely alive and well. Check out the European Directory Garlona already linked, look out for "EU" tags on events on the RPC and, well, just have a look in game during EU primetime to see what's going on. One of the benefits to being on an NA server with a thriving EU community means you can find RP at almost any hour on Balmung. I'm UK-based and decided to stay here because there's just so much RP!
12. After another story arc involving death and bloodshed came to its conclusion, it was high time for the Jackals to take a break with more social pursuits. The Sunny Seaside Bar was a lovely diversion, as usual, and we came away from a game of dodgeball with one more win to our name! Jino arranged a relaxing tea party for all of us on Friday and we took the chance to introduce ourselves to all the new members of our pack. The next day, we headed out to Thanalan to sell ourselves for charity at a friendly date auction. The proceeds, naturally, went to our Sunny Futures Fund to help the impoverished and struggling souls all throughout Eorzea. Finally, last night we travelled to the Goblet to sell our wares at the Jackal Crafts Faire arranged by Ludi. A calm before the storm, perhaps...? Our PVE nights are still alive and kicking as well. With Coil done and dusted, we didn't rest on our laurels, oh no. Bismarck Ex was tackled next and we made sushi out of that whale! (Left to right: Kheja, Zel, Xiv, Plat, Inarah, Kilid, Locke and Aeron.) Ravana awaits! This week we have our usual events, with the Missing Member on Monday and PVE on Wednesday, but the Sunny Seaside Bar will be relocating to the Silver Bazaar in Western Thanalan for one night. Why? Because the First Annual Flames Festival is being held there and we'll be providing the food and drinks for the evening! Once that's over, we'll be getting back into the swing of combat with some All Saints' Wake-themed events and spooky happenings for the Jackals. Hope you're all prepared!
13. Thanks to everyone who came last night! We had a great time selling our wares. Unfortunately, Cici was unable to make it so her perfumes went unsold, but she should be there next time! We also have a few more stalls in the works (Cass may or may not be setting up a pet stall). Apologies for the confusion regarding the name "job faire", by the way! We've changed it to "crafts faire" now to make it clearer what we're actually doing, haha.
14. I was bidding on people who didn't have any/many bids on them. As it turned out, a lot of them were in my FC. If someone was getting a lot of bids right out of the gate then I didn't bid at all. I was just trying to make people not feel unwanted. Regardless, it's something I'll bear in mind for any future auctions.

16. Jackal & Hide are honoured to present... The Jackal Crafts Faire! What's that, you say? You thought we just ran a bar and salvaged junk? And possibly some shady dealings that you overheard rumours of once in a backstreet in Limsa which are definitely scandalous lies? Well, my dear friends, we're Jack(al)s of all trades and we're hoping to showcase some of those to you! Our unofficial business manager, Ludivine Goultard, has organised an evening where we will try to dazzle you with our non-bloodshed related skills. We'll pack up our wares to sell in the Goblet, Ward 3. To give you an idea of what to expect, here's what some of our talented artisans will be offering for sale: Bert Brewforge and Thya Kahzuun bring their smithing hammers and hard, hot steel to create blades and armours of legend. Jino'ya Traore is an alchemical wonder and has magical potions and herbal remedies alike to cure what ails you. Cassandra Lachance has everything you could possibly need for your adorable pets. J'inarah Marad's cakes and other culinary creations will be sure to tantalise your tastebuds. Next Faire TBA!
17. Sorry for the lateness but thank you all once again for attending on Saturday! We had a great time and hope you did too. Lots of new faces and the bar was humming with activity all night! The dodgeball match was a lot of fun, and Team Jackal got to stand triumphant once more.
18. We open tomorrow night as per usual, folks! Once again, our entertainment for the eve is going to be... D-D-D-DODGEBALL! Kilid has previously explained the rules here. Have a read if you're interested in participating and decide whether you want any modifiers to your rolls. It's a lot of fun and proved quite popular in the past, so don't hesitate to give it a go! Hope to see you all there!
19. As someone who runs events, I try to engage with people who are there on their own because I've been that person who feels awkward and alone before and it's not fun, I know! But as others have said, the chat scrolling can get a bit much so I would also suggest sending a tell. The sound and the colour are a surefire way to get attention. Of course, you may still come across people who aren't interested for whatever reason or another, but I think in the majority of cases, you aren't getting a response simply because it was missed. Edit: I'd also suggest using when you emote at someone. I know it pops out at me when I see my character's full name in something like, "X smiles at J'inarah Marad."
20. The fine folks at Jackal & Hide, proprietors of Sunny Seas Salvage and hosts of the Sunny Seaside Bar, are proud to unveil... The 7th Astral Era Eorzean Jackalendar! Our crew has very kindly offered to pose for a calendar, which will now be available to purchase either at our salvage shop or the bar for 150 gil. All proceeds, of course, will be put into the Sunny Futures Fund. What is the Fund? It will probably come as no surprise to hear that, whilst some regions of Eorzea enjoy wealth and prosperity, poverty and strife still abound in many others. Covering the whole of Eorzea, the Fund makes donations to numerous organisations and individuals throughout the land, from orphans in Ul'dah to refugees fleeing Doma and many more. Your purchase of a Jackalendar will help us assist the downtrodden and hopefully bring better, sunnier futures to those in need. First Astral Moon - Locke Rinannis First Umbral Moon - Aeron Volkova Second Astral Moon - Thya Khazuun Second Umbral Moon - J'kilid Tia and J'inarah Marad Third Astral Moon - Xivrez'to Ithaka Third Umbral Moon - Ciciru Ciru Fourth Astral Moon - Z'thara Dhen Fourth Umbral Moon - Chinua Dotharl Fifth Astral Moon - Jino'ya Traore Fifth Umbral Moon - Cassandra Lachance Sixth Astral Moon - Ludivine Goultard Sixth Umbral Moon - Kheja'a Akhabila Bonus - Takia Himaa Bonus - Bert Brewforge OOC Information: As mentioned above, the aim is to raise money for a charity fund we've created. You can ICly purchase a calendar either at our shop or our fortnightly bar nights. I've based the price on the costs of the drinks we serve at the bar so hopefully it's a reasonable amount. Also similar to the bar, real gil will not be used. Of course, huge thanks to all of our crew members for posing, Kilid for taking most of the screenshots and Xiv for turning them all into beautiful calendar pages. This was a lot of work but also a lot of fun so we hope everyone enjoys it!
21. Must depend on the realm you're on then because I've played WoW for 9 years and have never seen it there. But, as I said before, it doesn't bother me either way. Use quotes or don't use quotes; the substance of the RP is far more important to me than what amounts to a stylistic preference.
22. I don't use quotes in /say and I never have. I've never even seen them used that way until coming to FFXIV. I believe it's personal preference and honestly don't mind if other people use them, or don't.
23. Once again, thank you all for coming last night! The mixology contest went down a treat and we'd like to congratulate... Nailah Quill! Her concoction of strawberry schnapps, melon and banana liqueurs, pineapple juice, orange juice and cranberry juice, which she dubbed The Rainbow ("Because it blows sunshine up your butt!" ™), will now be a regular feature on our menu! It was a close contest, however! Pae'a Atiyeh, Ludivine Goultard and Kalam'ra Shadhavar also made some spectacular drinks. We'd like to thank them, and our judges (Scarlet Heath, Sumi Kha, Aeron Volkova and Stone Wall), for a fantastic evening. See you all again in a fortnight! In the meantime, enjoy some screenshots.
24. Hello and welcome! Check out the European Directory if you're looking for events, linkshells, FCs and contacts that play at EU-friendly hours. Hope you enjoy Balmung!
