Question: Do we consider paladins to be "Holy" magic users since HW came out? I ask because of Divine Veil, mostly. Clemency has some very holy-ish aspects to it as well. I don't think it's ever really been specifically said what type of aether a Paladin uses to do their spells, so I'm curious what others think about this.

I definitely see twin somethings. I'm probably not the first to make this joke, but I ain't even mad. Anyway, I like the artist's work!

Name: Rufus Wightman Type of date desired: Both Gender preference: Either for Female, Friendly for Male Brief description of your character: This Ul'dahn born midlander may possibly look intimidating, robed in black as he tends to be. But underneath that edgy exterior lies a heart of gold, and an amazing cook both. He's always up for deep and interesting conversations, and will more than likely to go lengths to make you feel really good about yourself emotionally with his kind words! ((MAY HAVE NOT PM'D THIS BECAUSE I'M A DUMMY. NAILAH, FIX IT.))

balmung Dark Knight w/o life skills seeking mentor/master
Rufus Wightman replied to Mi Ming's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'VE ALWAYS WANTED AN APPRENTICE! No, but all Sithness aside, my character is a Dark Knight himself, and very open to ensuring that other people don't get swallowed by their own dark side. He's also a mercenary by trade, with plenty of experience in the nitty-gritty ways of life, so he'd definitely be up to imparting his knowledge! -
balmung Refugee seeking housing, companionship

Wait, wait, wait. Hold everything. What is this you say? A refined, classy lady, who is also up to a brawl? You have got yourself a friend in Rufus, whether you know it or not. -
1) Desperation for conversation. That rhymed, but is also very true. Probably the biggest thing in his day-to-day life is being unable to find anyone to strike up a conversation with any real substance to it. 2) Hearing someone complain about things he also doesn't like. Makes him feel like his gripes are more valid, somehow. 3) If he sees someone in a spot of bother, or about to cause a spot of bother for someone else. Though he doesn't like to meddle all that much. 4) He sees someone else cooking food, and feels the overwhelming need to judge the end result, using his own very finicky guidelines. 5) Trying to find some small-scale work, in-between times where he feels he has absolutely sweet bugger all to do.

I kindly request a hug, because I'm about to go fucking ballistic if these 3.1 dungeons don't produce me any tank gear sometime soon. This emoticon displays perfectly how I feel: :frustrated:

"I may be young, but my body is ready." P.S. Someone get an artist to draw this. I will pay you all the loves. -
I mean, I wouldn't personally do something like bringing a character over from another world/universe or what have you. Sure, I like it in other forms of media like anime, for example. I dunno why, but that's always fascinated me. But when it comes to RP? I tend to find it's just better to keep things in-universe, even if they don't always make sense. It's part of the adventure, right? It just sort of sticks in my craw when a character is blatantly just a copy from another game. Like I think I saw earlier in this thread, or in one of the other threads that was linked, it feels like poor storytelling to make a character seem interesting. In my early days of RP, I remember seeing someone who was RPing a hyur that was actually an asura from GW2, that had somehow found their way to Eorzea, and my first thought was, "Why not just go RP on GW2 instead?". Feels kinda disrespectful to the people that've taken the time and effort to build the world to the point it's gotten to, I guess? And at the end of the day, does anyone ever take the crossover events as serious, canonical happens in the world? Especially with the fact that some events have found themselves repeated, it feels like it's more accurate to say it was just a fever dream of the WoL during the breaks from solving mysteries or saving the world - you know, casual WoL stuff.

Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Rufus Wightman replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I don't know who you are! But I figure it might be fun to jump in on this bandwagon anyway. Your portrait is really nice, for starters! Also, you rolled a 999. Color me suitably impressed and amazed. -

JH-RP: Now also includes 100% more confused samurai and associating cat-woman with depth of field going on. -
Main Character's Name: Rufus Wightman Link to wiki: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Rufus_Wightman Usually online: Too much. Like. Literally almost always. Intensity: Death Metal (Heavy, in other words!) Seriously, come say hi! I get all whiny when I don't have enough RP.

Interesting picks in this thread! I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered a few myself. But in my case, I'd go for this for relatively unimportant fights: QEGlSBbLG5Y I'd probably choose for a boss fight: hu0ymRpWmYA Don't ask me why, but the dramatic lead-in is my jam.

I'm still not 100% sure how to treat soul crystals. As I pointed out in one of the DRK threads, and something I'm sure we can ALL agree on, is how vague and non-specific the lore on Soul Crystals are. They had to be made somehow, right? But how is it someone managed to craft a crystalline - presumably - hunk of aether in such a way that it became able to give the one it's bonded to additional strength and abilities? I can't really say. In my case, being a DRK, I thought it would be poignant to imagine the Soul Crystal as the coalescence of negative emotions, brought to the fore after being touched by darkness. It seemed fitting, I suppose. And perhaps a little -more- out there, I like to imagine when they call it a "soul" crystal, they literally mean that the crystal can be infused with the wielder's soul, taking residence inside their form, but can be removed at will. That's just how I do it, anyway. Not to discourage anyone else, of course!
