Not necessarily new, but.. It's been a rreeaaally long time since I've been in game, and even longer since I've really been present on this site. I was here in 1.0 and for a long while after 2.0's launch. But uh.. yeah! Looking to reconnect with the community and get some RP done. Thought posting here would be appropriate since I'm almost a newbie again at this point. Howdy!

Surely you can! Just a lot of practice. ;n; I've been at this for years and years, but I still have a lot of improvement to go.

So, I know I've been back and forth in this area. Over the last several months I've tried very hard to get back into RPing, and I keep hitting certain walls, people with drama, etc. etc. So I shied back away from it pretty harshly. But, my character is just about 50 (supposed to be my main but I neglected him a little on accident in favor of doing 3.0 in frilly things only available to the ladies on an alt. I digress.) I'd love for him to start meeting people again, and getting back into RP. His name is E'irawen and you can find his profile in my signature. At the moment, he honestly has no real story/direction, so I'm very flexible. My only note is that aether sight is involved with him, and done so in a lore compliant way. But, I know the idea still doesn't seem to settle with some people regardless, so I thought I'd include this as a heads up. (This is OOC knowledge as he does not know it is what he is experiencing, and is keeping it from everyone he knows. He is not fully blind from it yet, but his eyesight is deteriorating.) Hi guys! With all the new and returning roleplayers since the drop of Heavensward, I thought a social event might be in order to help people meet people, get their feet wet, make connections. I especially wanted to help people get involved before launching that Worlds Faire type event towards the end of August, so maybe they'll feel a bit more comfortable. Oh yes, the actual events to partake in, I imagined would only last a few hours at most, and only for a day or so. I think it'd be too much to host it 24/7. But! I imagine ICly people would still be allowed to pretend it's still going and could use it as an RP backdrop or something. ^^

So, I didn't think to post it here, but I've been working with a few people on tumblr for a sort of ren fair-esque idea, and a lot of people seemed to like it. I got a message on here about it too, so I thought I'd post to see if anyone else is interested. Working on the bare bones of it, but this is what I have so far: - Bi annual. I was considering hosting one during the new years event at the beginning of the year, and then again in August during the summer event (for several reasons). I wanted to host the first one this August not only because the in-game event adding some visual flair for it, but because by August, most people will have some of the new content out of their system, they'll all have their new pretty Au Ra to play in RP, and we'll have an influx of both new and returning players for Heavensward, so it could be a good opportunity to help people get into/back into RP. - The idea was to keep the entire thing kind of just light hearted. It's for fun! I welcome not only just fair-goers in general, but people/groups to be vendors. Sell things (beit actual game items or otherwise, your choice) such as clothing, food, and other random little things. - Similar to the above, it could always be a good opportunity to represent your FC and do some recruiting, ICly! - Several other characters that offer other services are eager to offer things like divination readings and what not as well. - Mini games such as a simon says thing (inspired by the golden saucer one, yes), giveaways (like a minion giveaway or something)/lotteries, potentially a Cards Against Humanity thing (using the website, even!) as well as other things like drinking or eating contests (maybe fighting contests?) - Dancing, singing, etc. A lot of entertainer characters are already hyped for this so, yes goooood I am pleased. - A location has yet to be determined, but given the fact we want to abuse the in game event decorations, it'll obviously be in one of the city states. Probably not Ishgard though. - I have been debating spreading up some of the games/giveaways/etc. over the course of a few days instead of shoving it into a single hour or so, and ICly saying that the festival itself lasts all day every day for whatever duration it may be (so everyone has a chance to at least RP in it, y'know? I wanna try my best to make it timezone friendly). Maybe 2-3 days? Hrrrrm choices. What I'm looking for right now is not only an interest check, but people who are willing to help me run this, as well as ideas/input if you have any! As of right now, a large portion of the members want their involved character to be an Au Ra, so it looks like the full launch of the group won't be happening until Heavensward comes out. However, until then, we're all still tossing out ideas and brainstorming for things that we may or may not want the group to be a part of. Here is a general quick list of some points I'd thought of regarding the group and had posted on tumblr: - troupe name is Animagus, taken from terms anima/animism and magi/magus. (Not harry potter) - aesthetic? I guess.. Inspiration coming from romani (i dont wanna use the G word but I would be lying if it didnt come to mind for explanation?), alphonse mucha, hippie, bohemian… Lotsa folk stuff too - the base concept is inspired by IRL crafts such as witchcraft, divination, voodoo, as well as other such cultures. Each thing will be researched and implemented in a way thats lore friendly. - some current services offered range from herbal healing/natural remedies, crystal healing, divination (tarot, tea reading, etc.), charms, spells, music/performance. -the group is neither morally good nor morally bad. The leader has a strong belief in everything happening for a reason, that people need a safe place from others. However, she also believes in accepting the consequences of your own actions. Unless you’re like a serial killer just for fun thats kinda no bueno. - the group will be LS based not FC - your character doesnt need to stay with the group all the time. Just keep in contact with the pearl! - there will be plans to perform at other players events, or our own. Also to offer tarot readings and what not - all races, clans, and genders allowed - as said earlier, if you’re a thief or something ophelia doesnt care. Do not put the entire troupe in jeopardy though, she will be upset. This is a -home-! Thatsss uhhh. Off the top of my head, there. I feel like i might be forgetting something, but i cant recall. Like i said, open to ideas and suggestions, whether you are gonna join or not!

You're correct that the in-game Astrologian deck is much smaller than a Tarot one (6 or 8 cards, that I recall). That is likely for a gameplay reason since many more would jus hamper smooth skill use. I have been making the assumption that the cards Astrologians use are very particularly chosen and aesthetically tuned ones for the purposes of battle and healing, and that other card decks for more 'mundane' purposes could very well exist. Not explicitly stated in lore, but I wouldn't say it's a far stretch. Cards and fortune telling have spanned time and cultures! Using such a small deck would be very limiting for fortune telling. The cards are apparently as follows: Balance, Ewer (a pitcher for water), Bole (tree trunk), Spear, Arrow, and Spire. The cards look like they're absolutely beautiful and I plan on making a physical deck of my own out of them to do IC readings on my Au Ra. I personally don't see why these can't also be used for readings. It seems a shame to ignore them in RP. Plus, the low number of cards keeps the system simple for easily explaining them in RP. I totally forgot they even showed the cards at Fan Fest. Thank you for posting them! I really would love to use them in RP. I hope we can get more lore soon.

I really am interested in learning how to go about doing readings in RP. I don't know how Eorzea treats the arcana, but I've been having fun incorporating IRL hobbies like this into my roleplay. That being said, as well, I've been trying to recruit for a group of characters that does things like this. Divining (tarot, tea reading, etc.), herbal healing, crystal healing, and more. A lot of things of this nature. (also, performances, if you are so inclined to!) I am nervous to say because I don't know anyone's reactions to the subject, but to help clarify the inspiration, a lot of (my character's, at least) doings are inspired by wicca and witchcraft culture.
