1. Meracydia, iirc. They were at war with them. It's talked about in Final Coil from what it looks like (though I could have sworn it got mentioned in the Syrcus Tower quests, if briefly since I haven't been through Final Coil yet.) Meracydia was home to dragons, the Allagans went crazy trying to conquest, and fought with the dragons (the original Dragonsong war! Only they didn't eat the dragons, they used 'em for batteries to power the Coil areas!) enslaved them, and then trapped Bahamut in the big solar powered battery we know as Dalamud. The Allagans were kind of jerks.
2. Double posting because I think it's interesting: the official track name (in English) for Lost City of Amdapor's dungeon music is "The Scars of Battle." My rusty, really basic translation of the Japanese name got me "Demonic War's Scars ~Corrupted Ancient Ruins of Amdapor City~" (if anyone has a better time in translating, the full JP track name is: 魔大戦の傷跡 ~腐敗遺跡 古アムダプール市街~, romanji'd down to madaisen no kizuseki ~ fuhai iseki inishi amudapu-ru shigai~) Also, the scenes shown for the track played for the Diabolos fight (and, interestingly enough - and I didn't realize it until I saw the bosses associated with the battle theme - the fight with Ferdiad and Avere) are for when you fight voidsent bosses in a dungeon. The track in English is interestingly called "Wrath of the Eikons" ("Angry Gods" in Japanese - that was an easy translation.) While that is a totally different discussion in the vein of "was it just a convenient naming scheme or were they actually gods?" it does make someone wonder if the Mhachi were powerful enough to summong gods into existence... so if that were the case, maybe the legends of the Amdapori being able to pretty much control time and space weren't just legend after all. Edit: looks like Wrath of the Eikons was an Uematsu track, so likely used in 1.0, but I'm not sure where.
3. ...how have I missed this thread :surprise: Amdapor Township multi-character tumblr, not fully IC at all times but 98% of my reblogs are FFXIV-related, at least. There comes the occasional not ffxiv stuff, but I generally tag that as such.
4. Completely possible! If they were all about forbidden magics, or things that they conjured (heh) up, that could have done it. Or, it could have been whatever Grandpa Elf did at the end of 1.0 to throw the 1.0 WoL 5 years ahead. Lots of possibilities that I really want the answers to.
5. Sure, but even in war there's always a chance of people escaping elsewhere before they're wiped out. I know it's at least speculated (if it's outright said, I'll find it) that the Amdapori people were able to "alter the fabric of existence itself." So if that is true, there would have been a way for some to survive. If they ever tell us how they sealed Diabolos, that would certainly help. It's kind of Schrodinger's Cat right now until more is elaborated, which... with the direction they're going, I think they will be. I'm hoping for a HM version of the Lost City myself with more lore and all in the coming 3.x series. Don't fail me now, lore team...! Edit: Yup, right in the quest text for Amdapor Keep is where mention of their power (or perceived power) was. "Once, the lost civilization of Amdapor thrived in the Twelveswood, her citizens wielders of powerful, yet forbidden magicks which could be used to alter the very fabric of existence." So assuming that's true, it could be reasoned that some might have teleported themselves out of the Twelveswood elsewhere to also escape the persecution anyone claiming to be mages/magic practitioners came into later during the Sixth Umbral Era.
6. It depends on how big the nation was, if there were others beyond the city that they lived in. Since the elementals wiped it clean, we're not sure of any outlying villages/towns that they could have been in, where the main hub was the bigger city. Afaik it's vague on how many actually fought to Diabolos, beyond it took a lot of them to seal him and his rampage. I'm likely mistaken, but I'll see if I can dig up on whether or not it was said that some actually fled the city and made their way elsewhere - I thought that was said, but I want to make sure I'm not remembering info incorrectly. :/a
7. ^ That's the entirety of the bonus blu-ray that came with the 2.0 collectors edition. While it doesn't really go over the War of the Magi in huge detail, the opening does say this:
8. Something else of note; I don't think Fernehalwes (aka Koji Fox) was explicit that it was solely the Mhachi that survived the flood (or I misread.) There's also a bunch of speculation that the new 24man raid looks a lot like the interior of the Lost City. While it's doubtful it IS of Amdapori origin, it's fun to speculate. If it IS, however then they would have had ways to escape the flood. But with Ferne's vagueness on who survived the flood beyond the obvious Nymians (at least the ones who were Tonberry'd and lost their rancor,) it gives way for who else could have in that time. Also, to note, it wasn't until 3.0 that the mysterious third nation for the War of the Magi was known. The Scholar questline actually talked about how the Nymians were cursed and who did it. The Black Mage questline references the War of the Magi in the 56 quest I think it was. Zhai'a Nelhah: "Fighting destructive power with more destructive power... It's such thinking that led to the War of the Magi. I'm sure I needn't remind you of the outcome of that war." Lalai: "The War of the Magi... I suppose I cannot blame him for seeing the parallels. A war between forces commanding unimaginably destructive magical power. But black magic is not purely to blame. It was the violent confluence of black and white magic that ultimately led to disaster." Bit off the subject of the Amdapori people, but it does relate to them.
9. Wind-Up Caelia Made by her grandmother in order to fill the void of missing her granddaughter turned into something of a business. Use item to acquire the Wind-Up Caelia minion. Minion guide: After making the doll to act as a stand-in to the real thing, others in the hamlet asked for a doll of her as well. Upon returning to visit, the rel Caelia was nearly overrun by miniatures of herself, and was concerned over the amount of fire damage that had not occurred to the hamlet itself. Flavour text: Don't be reckless? But that's precisely how I operate! Behaviour: Independent Interactions: - Will sigh heavily and cross her arms before returning to default stance if you stand around too long. - Will randomly cast "magic" which puffs out as its cast - minions can't cast magic, you know. - Will climb up her owner and teeter dangerously on their shoulder/head on one foot.
10. Yeah, I try to find substitutes if I can for some of the pricier cards so I don't have to pay a ton for cards for decks. One of the cheaper decks I've made is an Empress Galina edh, mono blue. Oh that's a nice Umezawa's Jitte you've got, guess I'll tap Galina to take it from you, thanks! Lots of merfolk and blue bounce spells. One of the meaner decks I have is a Linvala deck, though next time I play with friends and my husband, I'll make them choose whether or not they want to take me out or take out the Niv-Mizzit that's staring them down.
11. Oh, I haven't played MtG for a while, but the best format is edh. One of my decks, assuming I get blessings from the other players, actually utilizes Flock of Rabid Sheep (token deck) and I thought to include it for fun, mainly. Didn't play FNM much, usually when I did I"d play stuff that I made myself as opposed to what everyone else was doing. I ended up having more fun that way, honestly.
12. Because Amdapor Keep is so romantic, right? We duo'd this, actually. Was a lot of fun! We haven't done any actual RP stuff for a while, but when they get close like that, I can't help but nab a screen~
13. Caelia, for the most part, upon taking the weirdest jobs: YqIAVodYbJU Lune, upon fleeing her home. Likely a little more... rushed and freaked out, but. w3qjfQieg2w
14. Caelia is actually an old rp character from the days of AOL chat room rp (...man that makes me feel old) and I mainly modified her to fit the world. Ness and Karima are vaguely similar, based on characters I had prior that I'm reworking for Eorzea instead of their original world. Personalities are largely the same, motivations, etc. Lune and Rivienne though are completely original to XIV. Character creation is a dangerous thing! I had been dicking around in character creation while I was getting hit with a string of 90ks, made them and then went "Oh, I like the way these characters turned out!" and then it slowly became "who are they, what are their motivations, where are they from" etc. Rivienne ended up being from Owl's Nest in E Coerthas, chased out by the Calamity who has a scar on her chin from fighting a dragon*. Lune ended up being a misbranded heretic (using the facial tattoos that Hyur females get heh.) I hadn't quite pinned down what had done it (originally it was the fact that her eyes are actually two different shades of blue, but that was kind of special snowflake-y) to the fact that she's actually a dragon who just didn't want to fight, to someone who had been asleep for a long time by some awesome magic, to where it is now (something that actually makes sense according to lore, mainly.) Usually I can get a personality out of that; in Lune's case it was "she's going to be terrified of anyone and everyone because who knows who might be from Ishgard even in the sticks?" Rivi was a little harder but due to her scar and how that one happened, I went with laid back with a decent sense of humor. Obviously, all of it was expanded on, but tl;dr, I start with the character and their look first, then build on that with their history, then personality. Once I get a good base, I expand and go back and make changes; or if things just seem right for a character (and that does happen!) I don't have to change much, if anything at all and just roll with it. *Rivienne, as a kid, was playing with her siblings, saving them from a "dragon." She slipped and fell on to some rocks and ripped open her chin. Still saved the younger kids from that "dragon" that they were imagining, and now tells the story for kicks.
15. http://40.media.tumblr.com/af6b85b1ee2622f7f7c513759ea238d3/tumblr_ns55mzREYi1tybnywo2_1280.png[/img] Caelia does, yes. It was agreed upon OOCly that Terris gave it to her (it dropped while we were dungeon diving, and it was passed on to me when he won it because he's a big sweet dweeb don't let him tell you otherwise if you know him). Her name is Kineta. No one else has pets yet beyond Cae.
16. For me, music can pretty much be anything that fits the mood. I'll put on soundtracks for mood music, I'll listen to one song on repeat should it fit what I need - I did that for a short story I wrote for one of my characters not long ago, actually. Was pretty much what I needed, despite having an entire playlist for the short story I wrote. I'm pretty flexible in terms of music when I RP, or write in general, really. I've written fight scenes (fast paced) to Nightwish, so I can pretty much write to anything. Sometimes it's just a matter of finding what fits the mood for me.
17. Caelia would want something that was simple but one of her favourites: cheese risotto and some grilled trout. Top of with a dessert of blood currant tart or just simply rolanberries, and she'd be happy. Lune would want baked pipira pira and some fruit. There'd be some comfort in that, at the very least.
18. Wiki update stuff goes here, I guess! They're always a WIP in some way, and I'm sure I'll add more to them as time goes on. Caelia Silverarch Lune Vormold Ness Morioka
19. Cae works out of Ul'dah, usually (she's currently in Ishgard now hating life because it's cold and while the pay is good, the climate is not,) as do Rivienne and Lune. Could have likely heard varying rumours on them around the city itself, or seen them around. However floats your boat, and that can be worked out, of course. ...I'll eventually have their wikis up, but I'm usually on with either Caelia Silverarch or Alair Valaias, if you ping either of those. I can give more info on any of the characters, of course, depending on interest!
20. Knee-high/thigh-high boots for Caelia. When paired with a skirt, it becomes a zettai ryouiki* look and she rocks it. Boots, if they're knee-high are sometimes paired with thigh-high stockings instead. After receiving a platinum scarf of casting as a gift from Terris though, she incorporates that a lot, along with rose gold earrings. Simple, sure, but elegant depending on what she's actually wearing. Lune, while living in Ul'dah proper, likes clothes that can keep her cool. Hard for someone who wears leather/hard leather on the job, but otherwise would rather keep cool. A mask of some sort is always present to hide her heretic brandings, usually a full face mask. Rivienne just likes to be comfortable, so anything goes with her. Ul'dah is a little warmer than what she grew up in (E Coerthas) so keeping cool but not too cool is key. I'm unsure about Ness and Karima so far, but Ness' type would likely be Cute, and Karima's Cool/Sexy. Once they're a decent level for more than Horribly Dyed DoW/DoM clothes, I'll know. *this link will take you to TVTropes. I'm not responsible for time wasted there, I swear!
21. Yes. I say this on account that there's a quest in Ishgard doing just that early on: Drinking the Pain Away. http://i.imgur.com/RfmdIjI.png http://i.imgur.com/5FD2rE6.png This is the completed quest text, but this video actually gives all of the spoken text as well: Also, the 2.0 MSQ also had something similar, though it was a heretic trying to get Haillenarte's house to fall for charges of heresy, and his was one of the four main houses of Ishgard, the Holy See doesn't seem to care who is charged, they will strip them of title and chuck them off of Witchdrop/torture them/whatever they feel (or in the quest's case, exile them.)
22. Karima Ejinn may be added. Up in the air at the moment how active she is in her tribe (aka I haven't decided yet.)
23. Sounds like you mean Iieha Kiltias? Not sure if she has an account here, but she has a tumblr as well, if you've got one.
24. I. Basic Info Characters: Caelia Silverarch, Rivienne Sorel, Lune Vormold, Karima Ejinn, Ness Morioka Primary character: Caelia is, but the others I can bust out on request. Linkshells: none that are for RP purposes. Primary RP linkshell: none! But I'd like one. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I'm fine with any, really. If you want light and silly, storylines, stuff in between, I'm fairly flexible. Views on RP combat and injuries: Yes please? Though for any of them there would have to be a reason ICly to do so, but I do like combat and injuries. Things like that are things to be talked over, however! No death, though. I can write it out, I can attempt to dice it but it's been a long, long while since I've played that style, or it can happen off-screen. Whatever floats the boat, I'm usually game. Views on IC romance: I'm ok with it! Caelia is with someone, and she won't be swayed otherwise, but everyone else is fair game, and varying Hard Modes. I do like surprises though, so if something takes an unexpected turn, I'm usually ok with it. I don't do erp though, so if it takes that turn, it'll be a fade to black and implied later on. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Old friends? I'm ok with that. If you want something in one of my character's backstories, I'm totally down with that too. Views on lore: I try to stay as knowledgeable about lore as possible, and if I can work my characters around it, I will. Alternatively, I don't mind things that bend lore, so long as it's believable and not completely out there and has a decent workaround. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /tell is usually for ooc for me, so if you start RP there, let me know that's what it is? Otherwise, I don't mind normal chat, but if my partner (or sometimes me!) is self-conscious about it, party chat is where it's at outside of emotes or whatnot. III. Other Info Country: 'Murrica Timezone: PST (GMT/UTC -8:00) Contact info: Here, in game (usually on Caelia or my main character Alair Valaias - she's available for RP too, just not in the capacity of the ones listed above,) skype (~nyamonyas, just tell me that you're from the RPC/ffxiv in any message sent,) or on my tumblr. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow] Wikis will be around sometime soon. I need to stop being lazy with them.
