http://i.imgur.com/2c7p77n.jpg[/img] Enjoying the nice Hinterlands air. I have more currently being edited up, but this was first because it was so damn cute.

One of mine worships Azeyma, she is not a catte. She's more in it for the fact that she also represents fire, and well... fire is what the character likes. Ultimately she worships Althyk, but seeing as how Althyk is Azeyma's father, it isn't that big of a jump.

Ness and Karima are 17-18. Rivienne and Lune are 25 (or in Lune's case, 24 or 25 because I haven't really settled on an age whoops) Caelia is the oldest at 31. I originally had her younger, but aged her up in the end.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be negative! It was like 4am when I saw the results and I should have refrained from posting until I was much more awake to put my thoughts into what I was saying (which, words are hard when you're dead tired but are still awake.) My post sounded a lot more lighthearted in my head than it did typed out. I won't personally be using the styles that won (I don't think at least... never know when a character might go "nope this works 100% for me" right?) and while I liked the other ones more on a more personal aesthetically pleasing level, congrats to the winners! I've seen some love for the winning entries already on tumblr, so I know they'll be getting some love. I do hope they grab some of the other entries in the future though and rework some of the ones that might have been disqualified but they wanted, though I also hope the two winning aren't the only ones they release in the patch (not because I don't like them, more because I love seeing what other styles the devs come up with too!) since they usually try to do like 3 or 4 each patch. Maybe we'll see a retooled entry in 3.1?

votes have been tallied, meet your new hairstyles in the upcoming patch. Mad that 9 and 16 were the top runners up. D: I wanted those to win, damn it all.

I'm shiptrash, oh how I'm shiptrash... http://40.media.tumblr.com/b6994074a07a88b84c1c84f73ea5163e/tumblr_nufobo9nxq1tybnywo1_1280.png[/img] took the shot because I have a growing screenshot collection of "Terris looking exasperated/done with Caelia's bullshit" and he was giving that look, but then it became cute.

Help with units of time and measurement in FFXIV
rainichan replied to Riven's topic in RP Discussion
Lot of characters use "summers" as their time measurement as well for years. One of mine does that (as in, "I've been in Eorzea proper for at least three summers now") and there's an NPC in... Costa, I think, that uses it as "I've been around for fifty summers and I know how to make a lady smile" or however he says it. Kind of an alternate to how you'd say years, depending on your character. -
I can't link or name, but I can say when I see people calling the entries "garbage" and "crap" and people going "dafuq are with the horrible selfies?!" or "they didn't work as hard as the people who made stuff that didn't make it in!" -- that is not okay. Not on ANY level. When things like "some of those entries were utter bullshit and I don’t understand how they were chosen over some of the gorgeous, high-quality, multiple-angle entries I’ve seen that didn’t make the cut" are said? That is still NOT OKAY. Disagreeing that you don't like the entries because they don't appeal to you is fine. I don't care much for the sidetails, so I didn't vote for them. Little too cutesy for my tastes, but it appeals to other people. I like some of the other styles that didn't make it, and I wish I could vote on them. But I'm not going to belittle the people who DID by calling their pictures of their hairstyles, whether they were pictures of themselves (which was in the rules as acceptable to do if you didn't have pencil/paper or a digital drawing coordination to create a 2D entry) or wigs by saying they didn't work as hard as people who drew their entries? To say the devs are "wasting a contest on this crap"? How is that in the least all right to say? I might not like some of the styles, but I'm not going to say they didn't try as hard as the people who didn't make it in. There's a polite way to say "I don't like this" and a rude way of saying "I don't like this" and while I see a mixed bag of polite/rude, more people agree with the rude from what I've seen. It could be different for others and what they see and that's fine too! I just... insulting comments aren't the way to go.

QNKhFPeYNA8 Gust fangirling intensifies... not that... I don't have this soundtrack box set or anything...

16 had my vote since I want longer styles (which I know are hard to implement because of clipping issues and other programming stuff) so it looks like it could be long hair tied up to look short which is fine by me. This. You can say "hey Yoshi-P, next time can we choose from more than just one? There were so many good ones I would love to see and this didn't feel like a good representation of them!" instead of "omg Yoshi-P and his team are idiots and don't know what good hairstyles are why would they do this" and much worse as I've seen. I hope they do see which hairstyles that have been posted in the "we didn't make it but lets show them off!" thread and try to implement some of them. Some are super cute.
-
My guess is that they're under a time constraint if it's for 3.1, which is why they made the rules strict in "it has to be this length" and they chose hairstyles fairly easy to implement quickly (braids exist, you have to adapt them, as do ponytails and some of the hairstyles some of them are similar to exist and are easily adaptable.) To me that doesn't mean they won't adapt some of the others; in the contest info they even said "if we see that one is really liked that wasn't a winner, we may implement it in the future" (not a direct quote, but paraphrased) so it's fully possible they'll put something in a future patch as they'll have more time. All of the nastiness that's going around though makes me upset. There's no need to be that buttblasted over one not making it. I liked some of the ones that were shown on the live letter that didn't make it, but with some of the things going around being said about the finalists is bad. Disappointment is one thing, but belittling someone else because you're disappointed? Whole 'nother story. If they do this again I really do hope they'll allow more than one out of each category to win, and have more than just 25 to choose from, but this may leave a sour taste in the devs mouths. :\

The comic about "yes I'm going to do horrible things to you" is usually me, but really heavy angst is actually really, really draining. Still something I love though. That's usually something that I can plot out in my head with no issues. That and fluff. Stuff in the middle is harder for me to rp.
-
I put my vote for the males into the one my rp partner wanted. My vote for the female hair was one that I could see a few of my main rp characters actually utilizing. Sadly it's behind, but oh well. Hopefully it'll still be implemented...

One of my all-time favourite images is of Rivienne and her "oh Twelve why are you even doing that" look.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
rainichan replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
And that's pretty much why I refuse to pug as a tank. Someone else I follow on tumblr had issues in AV earlier while he ran as a tank. Still, sorry to hear that. :\ That's the absolute worst. -
Caelia's normal battle theme: An... emotional battle theme, I suppose? And large fight (boss battle): Lune's normal battle theme: ..and alternate battle theme: Large battle: ...I'm a big GUST fangirl, what can I say?

balmung Ul'dah Noble - Looking for Connections
rainichan replied to Barbarccia Valadis's topic in Chronicled Connections
OH. I KNOW OF YOU! I'm usually the one Terris gives gunshows to on your FCs front lawn, and I've seen you (and have usually gone "oh gosh oh gosh someone waved at me augh what do" internally) while over poking at your bouncer. While Caelia isn't around right now, once she's not hiding out in the Hinterlands, I'd be down for something? Especially considering she uh, sorta crashes in Terris' room when she's in Ul'dah, I don't think that would be much of an issue, yeah? -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

I've been there, and it's one of the reasons I don't like to pug as a healer. To be honest your entire post shouted out as a "hnngh I hear you loud and clear, this is EXACTLY why I don't like to pug". I levelled WHM on Raeth for a little while, for stoneskin (he kinda hit 30 and then stopped, though...) but occasionally my desire to at least do that daily roulette on those classes tends to drop and I just stop doing it. Queueing as a DPS just to get...say, Cutter's Cry, and then everyone immediately leaves? Not all that pleasant. ... But as a side note, one of my pet peeves is when people don't say hello when I greet them. ;; It's not that hard to say hi, is it? You're going to be spending the next 30 mins or so stuck in this dungeon with me! Say something, at least! *sobs* If I pug for leveling I'll go in as dps mainly because it's easier and I don't have too many issues. We did a high level roulette with a pug with me tanking, got Snowcloak. I think I only really had issues on the yeti boss, but that was mainly because spriggans are jerks. I still got the commend, but I'm really "D: oh god what if I screw up augh" when I tank. I'm not very confident yet. Your side not though, I do usually try to say hello! If only because I want to kind of be friendly, and if that's all that's said the entire dungeon, eh, that's fine. I've had dungeons where people were really nice and everyone talked the entire time (I ran a Sohm Al where we had the nicest party, everyone was friendly and talking and if someone leveled up or got a piece of gear, the tank would always go "yay congrats! :D") other times it's silence but that's fine too. I know some people will actually dole out their commends if you actually say hello or hi or heya at the beginning. -

I generally try not to pug too much, mainly because I've had enough nasty groups that I tend to get anxiety flare-ups. I'm usually ok if I have people I know with me (1-2 others) but sometimes even then I get nasty people. Case in point: When Caelia dinged 50, it was a time of "gear up enough to get the relic and move on up." I was high enough ilvl to run Lost City, and was using that to get out of my level 45-50 Wizard's gear (y'know, the stuff from the quests.) I had gotten the Darklight cowl and one of my friends had made rose gold accessories + Astrolabe for me to be able to pop into the dungeons that mattered to me. I decided I wanted to run Lost City again, husband joined me as the other dps. We get into the dungeon, and the healer immediately asks the tank if they can pull pretty big. Tank goes "sure!" and pulls the first two trash groups. We wipe. Immediately it was on me, the blm, because I "wasn't doing enough damage" according to the healer. I shrugged it off and they pull again. I was quad-flaring, doing damage, doing more quad-flaring, we wipe again. The healer goes "I'm out of here, you have a bad black mage who can't do any freaking damage and can't play their class" and left after more berating I don't really care to remember, and some jabs from the tank as well. My husband finally goes "Hey tank, you wanna stop dying? You're ruining my dps." They try to do the "well things would be dying faster if the blm was doing their job right!" to which they got the response back "No, you're being an asshole because maybe if you were looking, you'd see she's still wearing her job quest equipment from levels 45 and 50. She can't do the damage you're looking for and instead you berate them for it? Really?" They said nothing more, and we left. It took me an hour to want to go back in. Husband tanked, and we went through two healers before we got one who stuck with the group (myself, mid-zeta husband tanking, and another fresh 50) since we weren't speed-running it. The other time it was bad was when I was on my main trying to get my blm relic, on the Titan HM fight. We had two new healers healing it and a bitchy beyond belief tank who berated us every time we died. At the last time before we said eff it and left, the tank demanded we use the stack method for the weights. The only problem is that at the time, my connection was not that great and stacking was a bad idea for me (I couldn't ever get out in time because I was lagged out and I'd either be hurt badly or die.) I would stagger away from the group a little so one weight on me wouldn't kill me and it was instantly "Omg I'm going to votekick you, you're not listening you need to be stacking or are you too stupid to do that?!" I explained that no, I understood it but stacking was a bad method for me because lag. More berating, myself and the few FC members with me said "Nope, f you, we're out." and we left. Went back with a full party of FC members, cleared it in one go. Recently though, it was only some slight passive aggressiveness that made me roll my eyes. I was in Sastasha as a level 15 conjurer, and regardless of actual level and gear, I know that things can go south pretty quick if a healer isn't on their A-game. In the Babby's First Dungeons I'm not entirely keen on stance dancing too heavily because of the aforementioned fights going south, but I was going back and forth, turning off stance when the tank got to about half life, and then going back to doing my subpar dps when he was near topped off/full health (my comfort zone.) One of the dps only types ">.>" and then marks the tank as "Target to Ignore 1." I know exactly why they did it, and I couldn't care less about it. I kept up on what I was doing and didn't hear anything else. I wasn't just standing when I could be helping, but ultimately? Sorry, my comfort in how often the tank should be healed is priority. Every healer has a different comfort level, and sorry you don't like it? But don't be PA and just ">.>" and say nothing to me otherwise. Looked the dps up later and saw they had whm at 60, and went "Oh. No wonder." That's not the way you get people to do something you want, you ask first. It's probably why I'm not looking forward to actually leveling AST at this point despite wanting to. tl;dr I don't like pugging if I can help it because on the off-chance I don't get some pretty fabulous people, they're Grade A Dicks that make me wish I could do dungeons by myself and get exp for it. -
I've been roleplaying a long, long time now, only really got into it for fandom rp on LJ/GJ/DW, etc. If I go back and reread some of the first logs I ever did, I cringe at first, but then it goes to "Wow, I've actually come pretty far in this craft!" For me, because I know that "He said/She said" gets old in a written format (and I did that a lot when I first started out rping/writing,) I try my hardest to use other descriptive words to match the feeling of the scene. Is this character exasperated at the whole ordeal? She's going to say this with a marked heavy sigh to show that. Stuff like that. I'll try to go back over and read what I've written too so I don't do the "Though she did this, though" trap (I still do it on occasion and I mentally go "NOOOOOOOO why did I do that" if it gets late and I'm starting to feel the need for sleep.) Other things are minor like that, mainly, where I try to substitute words here and there so writing doesn't get too stale. I don't abuse the thesaurus, but I do employ it every so often to change things up. It's the little things that I do that make me want to try to be better. If you can isolate your weaknesses, you can improve on them while improving your craft overall. It's a win/win situation.

Yeah, likely anyone that could bring Allag down were enemies to them. Why else would they need all the crazy things they did, if not to be the baddest dudes on the block? Lots of "Oh, you're doing this now? That's cute. We have x, y, and z that outdo you in everything still. :D" Regarding the miqo ancestors that came from there, they were likely nomadic clans like some are now, with the few actual settlements. They came across into the north to likely get away from the frost, and maybe even the dragons, depending on how their relationship was.

Likely it can't retrieve the signature info so it just gives that instead of the blank box it used to. I know it also displays that when someone moves off server or deletes their character, but it doesn't seem like that's the case. So, just the server going SO MANY NAAAAAAAMES WHY and putting something there.

YES I saw that and did a Happy Lore Sway. It also gave the location of where the Mhachi were located in the realm: There's now some speculation going on that the locations the Void Ark is seen is floating above this area but higher up so you can't see it from Mor Dhona. If it IS Mhachi, Nym, or Amdapor origin... well, it's possible that's what he means. Alternatively the Scholastate in Ishgard and its new quests coming in 3.1 might be the source of the lore... or something else entirely. Still hoping for a Lost City HM in the coming patches... Edit, while I'm thinking about it: And Ferne's wording of "Currently Inaccessible" makes me wonder if it will be in the future, hm.

That's what I was thinking a bit after I posted. It also played when Ravana appears to your PC and Ysayle, so it's probably just a one-off track to use for Big, Powerful Enemies anymore. Ah well, the speculation was fun while it lasted.
