  1. I do appreciate all of the responses here, in PMs, and in game! There were far more than anticipated! Rest assured we are looking through each of them equally. Thank you all so much for your help in this matter!
  2. Long time lurker, infrequent poster here! So I guess this thread serves somewhat as an introduction as well as a request. My wife and I have found ourselves company-less and are looking for a new one to join. We've looked through the linkshell hall in an attempt to find something that fit our particular desires and style of RP, but unfortunately have not had any luck. There are many FCs listed there that claim to be something (such as lore compliant), but after digging around on their sites it turns out they're not quite what they claim to be. Now, I won't say that my wife and I are infallible. We may truly have missed a company in the linkshell hall that's what we're looking for... And if that's the case, hopefully a representative from that company will reply to this thread to point us to their site/application/what-have-you. It is also our hope that maybe there is a company out there with members that frequent this site, but may not have a listing in the linkshell hall. Anyway, onto the meat and popotoes. What we're looking for is somewhat specific, but we don't feel it's impossible or unlikely. -Grimdark/mature/serious/whatever you wish to call it RP. We want something that is a little more than G rated. We don't want to feel like we're in an episode of Looney Tunes. Slice of life and "happy" RP is fine from time to time, but we're looking for more than just that. Eorzea is a dangerous world and we wish to roleplay with a group that recognizes that... Not one that only throws parties and pub crawls. -Lore compliant. We would like to find a group of people that abide by the lore presented to us by Square. We like to shy away from grey areas, not use them to find loopholes to make "special RP" happen. That being said, we understand that sometimes some grey area is necessary in order to make roleplay immersive/possible/fun (after all, the existence of our characters is grey area in itself)... However we don't want that to be the norm. We're looking for a group that follows the lore and doesn't have white Mage-dragoon-warrior-bard-monks (in one character) in their employ. -Not a company of heroes. A company of skilled people is fine. Those that are quite talented in their given profession, be it crafting, gathering, or battling is absolutely fine. Those that should be standing shoulder to shoulder with The Warrior of Light...that's not for us. We aren't looking necessarily for a group of people that roleplay NPC#24382, but we also don't want those that fell primals on a daily basis. We're looking for a group of people that have characters that are special because of who they are (personality, history, etc.), not what they are (job, status in society, etc.). -Preferably an adventuring/mercenary theme, but we can be flexible. The characters we have in mind would fit best, we feel, into a company of adventurers or mercenaries...general do-gooders. However, we can be flexible in this regard...so long as the company is generally good and not evil. -Activity during afternoons. A group who is active during the afternoons would be wonderful. Namely from roughly 4PM CST to 10 PM CST on weekdays. Weekends are just whenever. -Other parts of the game. The both of us enjoy the PvE side of things. While this isn't a requirement for the company, I thought I would throw it out. We would love it if the company we join also enjoyed delving into the PvE content of the game. PvP I somewhat enjoy... Her not so much. Again, not a requirement, but it would be nice. Any help in this regard would be appreciated. A reply to this thread...a PM to me...poking me in game...whatever. Thanks! Now, I'm sure that a number of you after reading this likely wish to take potshots at me for being an elitist or some such. As such, I'll be opting in and posting in everyone's favorite thread to allow you all to do just that.
  3. I appreciate the sentiment behind not wanting to support any -further- development by not purchasing anymore DLC/skins/whatever than what you already have... but you already own the core game... and aside from the free content they push out (such as those annoying SWAT vans with the turrets) that is content you own and can continue to play and enjoy without supporting OVERKILL. I mean, if you're done with the game and truly not getting anymore enjoyment out of it, then by all means uninstalling and all is fine. I just don't understand the "I don't support what you're doing, so I'm uninstalling your game that I fully own and no longer pay for!" They already have your money for that... keep playing it. I know I will. *shrug*
  4. December Update We're still alive and kicking. We've gotten a few new members in our crew this past month and recruitment is still open. RP: We hold weekly events that vary in theme. Sometimes it's community outreach, sometimes it's clearing a den of evil, sometimes it's a simple pub crawl. Our "company story" will be picking back up this month and continuing from where it left off. Now is a good time to join us and join in to be a part of the developments involved. We're still in need of artisan (crafting and gathering) type characters as well as those types interested in research and development of any type. If you feel your character fits the bill and is the type of person to help Eorzea and her citizens, perhaps you should consider joining us. Characters skilled in the medical arts (both physical and aetherical) as well as those fighty types are still welcome to apply and join. PvE: As a company, we strive to help each other a best we can with every PvE need. Be that running through MSQ dungeons and trials, tome farming, or even trying to get a group together for extremes and raids. We also do a bit of "retroraiding" from time to time, going back to outdated content to not only see it, but farm it for glamors and such. Etienne is being selfish and wants an in-house static group. I'm looking for people that are willing and wanting to run current content as a company. Our company has an OOC rank for those that don't wish to be ICly tied to us for one reason or another, for those that don't RP at all (though that makes me wonder why you're on this site ), and for friends of current members. Those interested in joining seek one of the officers out. Other: We still often gather together outside of Final Fantasy as well to have Cards Against Hmanity nights, Minecraft (modded or no), various games on steam and battle.net, and so on. We're usually on teamspeak as well during these times. ----- Come join the madness! aoexiv.enjin.com
  5. I disagree. I believe it is my place to judge or assume things based on people's choices for their RP. I, too, am using what you described as "scarce, valuable time from [my] busy life"... as such, it should be my choice who/what I RP with at any given moment. To make that choice, I have to assume and judge based on the choices the people have made. Now, if you're trying to say "We should be nice and not tell people off for the choices they make"... I can agree with that a little more. But your post, to me, comes off as "you should accept everything people do and RP with them no matter what." Sorry. I have standards that need to be met for me to thoroughly enjoy RP.
  6. My fourth or fifth string (depending on my mood that day) alt actually works as a "customs agent" of sorts with Maelvaan's Gate. She's an arcanist in the sense that she can do very basic physicking and attacking geometries and can summon a carbuncle... but certainly not much of an adventuring type. Granted, this RP has only been among company members or just forum writing... not with the general community.... but as has been stated before, what you described is essentially the arcanist's guild.
  7. Do au ra/miqo'te tails still show/exist at least when wearing that? Or do they also get lopped off in the process?
  8. Updated the main post to reflect recruitment needs. It seems we're stealing all of the doctors. We need more people to get hurt, now. Seek us out at aoexiv.enjin.com
  9. My posts aren't as grand as Reina's, so do pardon the simplicity. We're still around and still open to new recruits. Looking forward to the coming patch. Taking one of our company airships out and about to explore... or even facing the dangers present in the Void Ark as a group... it sure sounds exciting and we're ready to do it as a group! On the RP side of things we still have our weekly events as well as company plot moving along. A note on this: though we are a lore-strict/grimdark company, we are still open and welcoming to those newer to the world of FFXIV. So long as people are willing to learn and grow within the lore the game presents us, they are welcome as members of the company (assuming, of course, that their character fits the theme as well. ) We also still have plenty of room in our OOC rank should there be any people out there that don't necessarily feel like they fit our company's theme, but would still like to hang out with us. The rank is also open to those who do not RP at all, so long as said members respect the wishes and gaming styles of the members that do. Seek us out in game or go to our company site for more info! Come join the madness!
  10. No. I PvE paladin or dragoon. I RP machinist.
  11. "Suffer mortals as your pathetic magic ......... BETRAAAAAAYS you!"
  12. 1. Get a company mate to powerlevel me to 15. 2. Run dungeons (and roulette) until about 40. 3. Northern Thanalan fates to 53. 4. Churning mists fates until 59 or 60. 5. If tired of fates at 59, run library about 6 times to ding 60.
  13. I just use present tense. "Blah blah walks to the bar and takes a seat." If my action imposes on another character in some way, I add "in an attempt to"... "Bob swings his sword in an attempt to hack off Jim's arm." If my action effects another character but it is nothing detrimental, I just do it. "Bob pats Jim on the shoulder and nods......" No one has complained to me about it yet.
  14. Different people have different preferences on how to approach this hobby. Some people like to go out and be the Driver while others like to be the Introvert and just observe until something pulls their character in. It becomes dangerous should the Introvert ratio become too overpowering though I don't think that's an enormous problem for this community. It's just a personal obstacle players are facing where they don't want to be a wallflower but lack of this skill or that confidence halts that. Being a wallflower isn't a problem until you see it as one and decide you no longer want to have that tendency. Albeit hard, this is a place to give advice on overcoming that. Emphasis mine. With those words in mind, why does it seem, to me, that the ones "opposed" to wallflowers come off as making it seem like a scourge on the community. Even in your post that I just quoted you mention it becoming "dangerous" should the ratio become "overpowering". I'm not usually one to ask this, but where's the proof? When, exactly, does the ratio become too lopsided and cause the community to fall into the "danger zone"? I had to go back and re-read the OP just to be sure that I personally didn't miss anything... or misinterpreted something... or what have you... With utterances such as "dreaded wallerflower" and "eliminate wallflowering"... it comes off as saying "WALLFLOWERS ARE A SCOURGE THAT MUST BE PURGED!" Why? Are those people standing around the rail somehow disrupting your RP/immersion? Is their presence breaking your story that you're so desperate to tell in a public setting? Are those wallflowers really the downfall of the RP community? Hell... I'd have to admit that a large majority of the time I head to the Quicksand ICly is explicitly to be a wallflower... to watch what other people are up to. I really hope my standing there and reading other posts isn't the coming of the apocalypse! If you feel the need to make those wallflowers do something other than stand around... approach and RP with them. Otherwise.... what harm are they doing?
  15. I don't understand the need to eliminate wallflowers.
  16. Certainly very much active on Balmung. As to the FC bit, I would suggest looking at the Linkshell link at the top of the page. In there is a list of Free Companies (and linkshells) that frequent this site. Several offer both RP and PvE/PvP. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 Also, a shameless plug for my own company, Arbiters of Eorzea, which is one of said companies that offers both RP and PvE (PvP is encouraged, but certainly not a focus of ours). You can find out more both in the linkshells section of this site, or by going to our company site at aoexiv.enjin.com . We make a large effort to be welcoming to all "skill levels" in both RP and PvE, so long as the members are willing to learn and give it their best effort.
  17. Updated the main post to reflect our current recruitment "needs". Reeeeeeeeeally looking for some artisan (crafters and gatherers) type characters. Also the smart types that know all the things.
  18. http://www.mmospotlight.com/final-fantasy-verges-on-exceeding-current-number-of-wow-users/ Posted for some relevance to the slightly off topic topic.
  19. Many thanks. I will certainly look into those and pay close attention during the 50-60 quests. My apologies for the slight derail.
  20. Help a newbie out. I know of/have researched into the first seven chakras (root, sacral, etc. etc. up to crown) and thought that's where they ended in FFXIV as well. Reading this thread mentioning a 14th? Where is information regarding 9 - 14? Did I miss mention/explanation of them through the 1-50 class quests? Are they mentioned after 50? Any links would be helpful and appreciated. Edit: Admittedly, I have not yet played monk past 51... as such I don't have knowledge of the lore presented in the class quests beyond that point. That being said, I don't mind spoilers in this regard as it will help me to stick to the lore. Especially since my monk is currently attempting to train another in the art... >.> --- On the actual topic at hand, using the research I have made, I've made it difficult for my monk to be able to access whatever power each gate would provide depending upon their current mood, state of mind, thoughts, etc. For instance, if she is overly scared, then her root chakra is all messed up and she is unable to call upon its powers. The inherent danger there would simply be her being used to being able to call that power mostly at will... and suddenly not being able to since she can't get her fear under control. Beyond that, I don't know of any actual dangers regarding the various chakras/gates. Though, I'd have to side with Berrod on this and say make it personal/unique to your character as you see fit.
  21. I have to echo this. A major point of roleplaying for a lot of people is to be something you otherwise aren't/cannot be. It doesn't have to be limited to "geniuses" either. I'd actually be interested to know just how many players in the RP community can, in real life, wield the weapons their characters do in roleplay to the extent that the players claim their characters can. Same with crafting. I know several players that have characters who are talented cooks but admit openly that they'd burn water in real life. I have yet to complain about their RP in regards to their cooking. Does being knowledgeable of whatever subject matter your character is genius in help? Absolutely. Anyone who argues differently needs to reevaluate their stance. Is being knowledgeable in such a manner required to roleplay a convincing, "good" (in quotes because relative subjective-ness of the term), immersive "insert-talent here"? Absolutely not. And, honestly, it's disheartening to read the responses in this thread that would say otherwise.
  22. August Update: Still very much around and still recruiting! School (and work) is starting back up for some of our members so availability has taken a small hit, but we're still very much active in the evenings and looking for more to join us! RP: Several personal character stories going on and a company story in the works. Weekly events that any and all members can join in and enjoy! PvE: Pushing through the content as a group as well as with others as needed. Still looking to round out an FC Static. We have some members that are strictly OOC (for now *evil grin*) and welcome more if people are so willing! We often have "retroraid" nights where we go back and wipe out the old extremes and turns. Outside of FFXIV: Plenty of members join together often and play games on Steam/Battle.net/etc. We also often times have Cards Against Humanity nights. Also, I hear talk of possible D&D starting up with the use of roll20. So come join us and enjoy the madness that is Arbiters of Eorzea.
  23. This may be of interest to you.... http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=7491 Not certain how up to date and correct it is, though.
  24. I understand and agree, but in the linked reddit post... I fail to see what could be considered lofty. -Maybe- the "A DPS that parses 500+ level 56+" part... but even then, that's hardly lofty thinking. Otherwise, that entire post came off as someone saying "I really just want to be able to run with people that are capable of doing their jobs," which, in all honesty... is the same thing being said by a large majority of the people in this thread... parser or not.
