  1. This is very cool! 1. Thavnairian Set 2. Owlet 3. Lord of Levin lamp Thank you!
  2. I have timed myself typing and I'm typically the slowest one when it comes to my computer technology class. Typing out a full response for all characters for me takes a little less than a minute and a half, saying you can't at the very least put out a half assed response in under five minutes is absolutely bogus. I have no intention of putting out a half-assed response, though. I often take my time over my posts because I care about the quality of my writing and because I respect my RP partners enough to put in real effort. This kind of attitude is unlikely to win you RP partners.
  3. If you're walking away after 5 minutes, then it's quite possible that you're not giving the other person enough time to respond. Especially in those cases when you get a follow-up tell saying, "I wasn't ignoring you," it's quite possible that the other person was in the midst of writing their post when you left. I'm a para RPer and it can easily take me longer than 5 minutes to write a post. Another good idea is to always open with an OOC /tell to make sure the person is (a) not afk and (b) currently in character and looking for RP. I idle in public places sometimes while I tab in and out of the game, and I know it's a common practice. The suggestion to look for RP on the "Making Connections" forum is a good one. Scheduled RP is often richer than walk-up RP anyway.
  4. I can't believe I've never thought to look at your art thread before! I love your sketches. You capture expressions so beautifully. I would love to commission something from you if you still have openings!
  5. How do you feel about accepting alts? I have at least one character who would probably be a good fit for your FC, but I know that some FCs only accept main characters. If it helps, I spread the love pretty evenly among my characters (which is why my main hasn't even reached the level cap yet :dodgy: ).
  6. I feel that the answer to this question depends so much on the kind of RP you're trying to join in on. Personally, I prefer a /tell before someone joins my RP unless I'm in a major hub (like the Quicksand or the Carline Canopy) or at a social event. A lot of my world RP scenes fit into larger storylines and need to stay on track in order to achieve their intended purpose. That does not mean that if someone sends me a /tell asking to join in, that I will say no. In fact, this has happened several times and I was able to work them into the scene, and it was all the better for their participation. But it really helps to establish OOC communication before jumping into the mix ICly. A lot of people seem to think OOC communication ruins immersion, but I'm a big fan of it. When I have a complex arc in progress involving quite a few different characters/players, there's just no way to make it work without some discussion outside of the RP. However, for the purposes of tavern RP, walk-ups are just fine.
  7. Hi! I'd love to RP with you sometime! I have a privileged, thrill-seeking Wildwood, a broody and depressed Duskwight, a bitter and bitchy Duskwight, and an impish, laid-back Raen. The Raen, Tatsu, could speak to him in Doman if he's more fluent in that than the Eorzean common tongue. Let me know if you're interested in meeting any of my characters.
  8. I do have some decorations up and I will be spending tomorrow with my family, but I haven't really caught the holiday spirit this year. I'm unemployed and my UI benefits are about to run out, so I'm fretting about money. I also have to move next month, and I'm not looking forward to that. And in terms of my mental health, 2015 has been the worst year of my life. I'm ready to just get it over with and see if 2016 has anything better in store for me. I also have health problems which prevent me from eating or drinking any yummy holiday foods or beverages, especially anything alcoholic. So I don't even have the luxury of getting drunk tomorrow!
  9. OMG, you dear thing. RP with me! I want to go on adventures with Kurt. Will he wear pink?
  10. I was a little intimidated by you at first, but I wouldn't call you stand-offish. And I think Asheloux is a delight. Characters who act unexpectedly keep RP fresh and entertaining. It's so unfair when people judge you (general you) by your character. I sometimes wonder how other RPers see me when they only know me as Solenne. She's reckless, snobbish, privileged, slightly diabolical, and very used to being the queen bee, while I'm this little mouse of a person who spends most of her free time hiding at home because people are scary. That's not to say Solenne doesn't have a lot of good qualities, but they aren't always what people see first. I just hope that doesn't end up reflecting too poorly on me. On a completely unrelated note, I'm now slightly paranoid because one of my characters recently got OOCly rejected by someone whose character was romantically interested in her. His reason? He found out that I don't ERP. Now, I don't have anything against ERP - I want to make that perfectly clear. I just avoid it for personal reasons. But now I'm wondering, do I not write interesting characters? Are they not complex enough, not dynamic enough, to be worth pursuing for their own sake? Ugh... this is why romantic RP is such a minefield, and why I usually don't actively pursue it.
  11. When Solenne gets the owlet, it will be her IC pet. She is particularly fond of birds. As for Michaux, a tiny bat recently moved into his cave and he's too apathetic to drive it away, so he now has a pet bat both IC and OOC. Its name is Plunkett, because Michaux finds that name ridiculous. And Tatsu will definitely have pets, especially anything water-related, since she's a beach babe and a fisherwoman. Smallshell will be perfect, for one.
  12. It was a pleasure meeting you, Nebbs! (I'm Tatsu. ) Thank you Wayfarer's Rest for a lovely evening! It was a smashing success!
  13. As always, Sounsyy, you are a precious gift. Thank you! And thanks to everyone else for their input. I think I have a pretty good idea of how to shape Tatsu's backstory now.
  14. Slight side note - there's no reason to believe that Doma is landlocked, correct? In fact, I'm pretty sure it has a coastline, and Tatsu's island would be somewhere just off of it. I'm not suggesting that she's from another far-flung area of Othard. Nope, there's no reason at all! There are Raen and Domans who have come from ships. Similar, the vessels that arrived from the Far East are believed Doman. Doma = Island off the coast of Othard. Othard = Continent. Both = Have ships / trading available. This is the first time I've heard of Doma being an island. I've found sources that says it's "on the shores of Othard," which makes me think it's actually a coastal state. Where does it say Doma is an island?
  15. Slight side note - there's no reason to believe that Doma is landlocked, correct? In fact, I'm pretty sure it has a coastline, and Tatsu's island would be somewhere just off of it. I'm not suggesting that she's from another far-flung area of Othard. As for the other thing, it sounds like I'll just have to say she received some mentoring from a Doman practitioner of Arcanism. That would probably be easiest and raise the fewest eyebrows. I just didn't realize it was practiced overseas.
  16. It sounds like I might need to abandon the idea that her magical experiments were at all related to Arcanism. It's quite possible that sigil-based magic exists as a separate art in Othard, and she might have had a bit of informal training in that. I'm starting to lean toward the idea that her mathematical skill is intuitive anyway, such that she's likely to give her instructors a headache once she does start training at the Arcanist Guild. She'd be rather like a savant who can come up with a correct answer to a mathematical problem without necessarily being able to show their work, which can be impressive, but might become a stumbling block to more advanced learning.
  17. I'm working on the backstory for a new alt, Tatsu Kaisuri, and could use a bit of input. First question: Is is possible that a Raen character could have grown up in a fishing village on a small island off the coast of Othard? I know that the clan description mentions that they come from deep valleys within a mountainous region, but it also states that their ancestors were nomads. Is it really likely that a nomadic people would all suddenly decide to settle within the same spot? I'm wondering if I can claim that Tatsu's village was one of a number of pocket settlements established by Raen who gave up their nomadic lifestyle at a later date than most of their kin. The second and more dicey question: is there any way that a highly intelligent individual could stumble upon a sort of pseudo-Arcanism through experimentation? I'm not saying my character reinvented Arcanism or anything remotely close to that. But being a bored, clever, and aetherically-sensitive teen stuck on a tiny island, she would have been eager to find a way to enhance any latent magical abilities she possessed. Through trial and error, she might even have learned a few basic formulae that produced encouraging results. She has a talent for finding patterns and a good head for mathematics. I'm not saying I want her to have become a powerful or even particularly competent Arcanist without any formal education. I merely wonder if it's possible that she could have had a somewhat fuzzy understanding of certain principles of arcane geometry by the time she reached Eorzea. It would, if nothing else, explain why she ended up pursuing Arcanism after settling in La Noscea.
  18. For a while I played a Keeper of the Moon who was so isolated in her youth that she didn't learn to read or write until adulthood. I figured that Miqo'te families living deep in the woods (especially those on poor terms with Gridania) would lack the educational resources that city-dwellers have access to. That was part of her backstory, though - I haven't tried to write a character who is illiterate in the present. I think I might find it frustrating, but that's just me.
  19. Please add Michaux Vidal! He'll pluck at his lyre a bit while reciting a poem.
  20. Actually... I don't think they are 'crowded' but simply locked... and this is a good thing. Have you been on a regular server and started getting spam tells for gold sellers? ads in say, shout, etc? Random friend and FC invites? If not, just wait, because you will. On the locked servers? Nope. We are FREE from spam!! (Aside from the occasional person/fc) Frankly, to me that's worth $18. I can use my tells, don't have to be in /busy for some peace and quiet. I wish there was a free way to keep out the goldsellers, but alas.. there is not. THIS^^^ I started on Jenova and was getting tells from goldsellers approximately every five minutes (I actually timed it once because I was so irritated). The random friend/FC invites were a pain too. I have only gotten one tell from a goldseller since I transferred to Balmung, and that happened right after the server went down recently. So trust me, it's a good thing that Balmung is always locked.
  21. There is definitely a range of skin tones that overlap between the two. My Duskwight (who doesn't have the greatest eyesight anyway) got confused about another Elezen's clan once ICly, and I play an NPC who is half Duskwight but can pass as a Wildwood. I think it's more realistic if the lines between the clans get a bit blurry at times, at least in terms of their physical appearance.
  22. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac112/seekingidlewild/ffxiv_11112015_022754-1_zpsbaegqxme.png[/img] Meet Lucienne, Solenne's chocobo. Solenne raised and trained Luci from a fledgling and is very attached to her. Lucienne is an unusually calm and well-mannered bird. A bomb could go off near her without ruffling her snowy white feathers. She's the perfect mount for a lady who loves to get into mischief.
  23. http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac112/seekingidlewild/ffxiv_11032015_214259-2_zpsj7czbntj.png[/img] Solenne and Isarmont. They weren't officially a couple when I took this shot, but the sunset was so romantic...
  24. Because you know, perhaps, maybe, very maybe, Eorzea doesn't have SJW issues. Leave them out the door please, and keep roleplay to roleplay, because god, bringing real life issues into roleplay irritates the fuck out of me. Real life issues can and do affect RP. A more extreme example would be sexual violence - most RP FCs, even those with dark themes, won't allow that kind of RP because it can do real OOC harm. Sexist slurs don't have the same potential to be triggering, but there is still reason to consider how and why you're choosing to use them and whether there are less offensive alternatives that would work just as well. I mean true, you could be playing a sexist character and maybe that's just how they talk. But it doesn't hurt to keep in mind that those words are used in real life to oppress and demean real people and maybe those real people would prefer not to encounter them in RP. As for other types of profanity in RP, it really doesn't bother me at all. I don't see how it breaks immersion when those words have been in our language for centuries.
  25. I try to keep Solenne's wiki fairly up-to-date. It helps that it's not exhaustively detailed or intricate. Some people's wikis are so gorgeous and so complex, and I can't imagine how they keep the formatting so perfect when they update. I'm jealous as hell, but I think I'll stick to my much simpler template. For my three alts, I don't even intend to try. They all have short and sweet RP profiles on Solenne's Tumblr, and that's probably all they'll get.
