1. I own two lovable babies. The adorable brother and sister duo, Murphy and Brittany! (Sometimes called Simba and Wolfie, respectively.)
2. I don't know how to tell you to go about it because I see no issues with the concept. My main is a conjurer, and if she came across your character, she would have zero qualms about his situation. None of my characters would be bothered by it, actually. It makes sense for every conjurer to not be a master healer, and even for conjurers to simply have a preference over what skills they do and do not want to use. If a character thinks he's being a jerk, then they're probably one of those "how dare you not use the gift the Elementals blessed you with?!" types. That's totally fine if it's purely IC. If someone OOCly has a problem with it, just explain to them what you did in your post. I think you're fine.
3. The issue stems from how Square Enix has treated the race themselves, honestly. They give Lalafell obnoxiously "cutesy" animations, then try to have serious portrayals of them personality-wise in the game's story. The Japanese love to have things that are "stupid and adorable, but can still be really adult!" for some reason.
4. There are a number of reasons I could I name for why one of my characters is a Hyur Midlander. A few of them are purely aesthetic. I thought the face I chose was pretty, I liked the hairstyles I could pick from, I liked being able to put moles on her face, I like the Midlander animations, I like the way the armor fits their body. (I tried making her a Highlander at first... Didn't like her aesthetically anywhere nearly as much. I hate the way they stand and their emotes are really weird to me.) As for background/story? Not everyone wants to play something over-the-top and fantastical. I consider myself a medium-heavy RPer, so I like RPing out the mundane day-to-day activities a lot of people would skip. Likewise, I like RPing characters that are mundane themselves. The idea of a more realistic (or "normal") person in a crazy world full of magic and beasts has appeal to me. (It's one of the reasons why I love urban fantasy novels.) I like taking characters with bland and/or humble beginnings and seeing how I can build them up and make them interesting with their personality or their reactions to things. TL;DR Version: It's less about what race I play, and more about what I do with them. The race I choose is not much more than just a pretty outer shell that's being draped around my concept. What is boring to you is not boring to everyone else. *shrugs*
5. In another post, I said already said that I purely understand people making their choices for aesthetic-only reasons. I do that myself. I pay SE good money, so I can run around in permanent cat ears if I want to. That's why I disagree with anyone who ever asks "if you're going to RP a human, why don't you make one?". Obviously RPing is about having fun. But there is a particular reason why I said what I did in my first post, and I addressed that in my second post. And your character would be the first Roe-adopted Miqo I've (personally) heard of, then.
6. Don't say you're stupid! As much of a cop-out as this may sound like to some, you are a very good exception to what I was talking about. Being new to RPing, not knowing every single little scrap of lore, and etc. are more than decent reasons to be handling things as you are. (At least in my opinion, anyway.) My post was aimed largely at players who think that's the only way their character's personality is justified, when that's simply not true. (It was also admittedly aimed at some players who're just way too influenced by anime/JRPGs...) And for the Miqo'te simply being pretty thing? I did not add anything like the question "if you're going to act like a human, why not just play a human?" to my initial post. I've seen others try to make that argument and I find it a poor one. Aesthetics mean a lot to an RPer, and we can do whatever we want with our monthly fee. Having a character that acts pretty much like a human yet is another race is justified if that's just what you like. As a poster or two said earlier, being a human is boring for some. I look in the mirror and see a human EVERY day, so if I want to look at cat ears and a tail while my character is running around, that's my (and everyone else's) prerogative.
7. Online in the game, or here on RPC? Either way, we're getting super close to Christmas... Most people are away with family, out shopping, or maybe working still. You're not going to see anywhere near as much activity around here (or in-game) until after New Year's. You can always leave people messages here on the forums. They'll get to them when they have the chance. Be patient!
8. I'd recommend taking a look at these since they all sound like they'd cater to a paladin-esque character (I'm not a part of any of these, just giving friendly plugs): Arcadeus Harbingers of Dawn The Lighthouse Traveling Templar Crystalline Aethereal Warriors Also, you can post on each LS/FC's individual listing, just not in the FC section itself. It's likely to avoid clutter or something of the like. Anyway, hope you find something!
9. A Miqo'te leaving their clan does not bother me nearly as much because it's an active choice and (one would assume that) the characters are aware of the consequences associated with it. I am a bit perplexed by people's fascination of having their Miqo'te adopted by Hyur, though. I have read through a lot of Miqo'te bios on the RPC Wiki. Not all of them, but a pretty decent chunk. A portion of those bios feature Miqo'te who were adopted. And for the life of me, I can't remember a single one where the character in question was adopted by a race other than Hyur. (I'm sure there is at least one out there. I just haven't come across it yet.) The notion of the character being adopted itself is fine. Adoption happens, obviously. But why do they have to be adopted by Hyur parents? What's wrong with having a Roegadyn, Elezen, or even a Lalafell for a parent? Why couldn't they just be adopted by other Miqo'te for that matter? I'm not saying that no one's character should be adopted by a Hyur at all. What I'm confused by is the fact that a lot of those adopted Miqo'te are being RPed just like humans (that or the player may be using this adoption to justify why the Miqo'te is disconnected from their culture/dislikes tribal Miqo'te/whatever). Do some feel as though their catgirl or catboy has to be adopted by a human to act like a human? Why do they have to be adopted at all to act or think any sort of way? Can they not just act the way they do or have the preferences that they do because they choose to?
10. My main for gameplay is a Miqo'te, but my main for RP became my Hyur. I wanted to make her a Miqo'te as well, but... none of the hairstyles really accommodated to the kind of personality my Hyur has (in my opinion). Now, my gameplay main was leftover from 1.0, and I could have changed her into any other race. But I kept her as a Miqo'te for the same reason I chose the race to begin with... It was cute, not a human, and I liked their animations/proportions. I say all of that because, as others have stated, it was primarily an aesthetic thing. Interesting enough for me to keep staring at it and still be pleased, yet familiar enough for me not to get annoyed by something like proportions (like Elezen's tiny heads and lanky bodies) or animations I'm not fond of (ex: Lalafell rocking from side to side like toddlers when they sit).
11. Yeeeeaaaah, I admittedly missed that part, too... That changes everything. Do what you want, lmao.
12. If not having a child is a significant part of a character, it is not that easy to change. For example, with my own character it is very important that she only had three children, which means that when new folk come into the K tribe and ask if they can be offspring of my character, I have to say no. Retconning wouldn't work because months of RP have built up a very specific story that has led to very specific character development. I wouldn't presume that it's so easy to retcon something. I understand that and it makes sense. But I would personally scrap the concept entirely if there was no way for me to retcon it in. If I need to resort to something as fantastical as time travel to justify the inclusion of a character... For me, that's a a bit much. As Tiergan said, if I came across it, I'd treat them as someone they adopted. But do I think it's the only (let alone the best) way they could go about introducing her into some pre-established RP? No.
13. I cannot say what anyone should or should not do. However... Personally? I am not a fan of time travel scenarios. It usually presents too many issues, like god-modding (that could very well be unintentional). Unless the lore supports the notion of lots of people regularly going back and forth in time like it's no big deal, I find the idea of time travelers odd. (I know there are the Warriors of Light... But that event is NOT a common occurrence.) It typically comes off as lazy (and/or clichéd) storytelling to me. And for the particular case presented by the OP, it sounds unnecessary. You can just change the backstories/character concepts in order to establish whatever relationships you want. Nobody should throw a hissyfit if you retcon things.
14. Alright, I can understand she is the one doing the scouting. That's fine. The fact that she should have received better information of what Karaan needed still stands, though. She can argue "my character wouldn't be the type to ask a lot of questions" or whatever, but you kind of can't organize something like this without a better description. I'm not saying you have to give the entire plot away. But do potential recruits need more than "I have a guy that seeks payment in the form of ladies, wink wink" to go on? Yes. At the VERY least, the phrasing of it could've used some more tact. Note: Just wanted to state, again, that I do not care about the ERP thing at all. I'm just talking about how a misunderstanding easily could have been avoided if someone just bothered to ask a question or two...
15. The discussion of ERP and how it's viewed, blahblablah... I'm not going to touch any of that. I am going to touch on a couple of other things, though. (No innuendo intended, lol.) If all that was the case, then WHY did the opening post of this thread go like this: Not to mention that two later statements supposedly claimed: If you had no idea what he wanted them for, then why did you say these things? You barely discussed anything with the person you're trying to collect NPCs for? All of the phrasing you used seemed to imply something of the "bow-chika-bow-wow" nature, whether that was the intent or not. If you didn't know what Karaan wanted, then why post up a thread? Collect all of the necessary information first, then make your thread. Otherwise, people will jump to conclusions like they did. It doesn't get more basic than that. Also... If the Nuhn in question is Karaan's character, and Karaan is the one who needed these characters to help further whatever plots you guys are collaborating on... then why didn't Karaan just make the thread himself? He would've explained his TRUE intentions way better than R'mah apparently did. And it would be one less thread to add to the several that R'mah has tossed up in the past couple of days. (Seriously, just compile EVERYTHING you want into a single thread. It's confusing and disorganized.) My point is that if he had made the thread and phrased what he wanted exactly how he wanted it, or if he had given R'mah better instruction, the notion of ERP would not have arisen like it did. (I'm not saying it wouldn't have arisen at all, mind you. People still usually jump to the conclusion of "slave trade RP = ERP, herpderp!" like it or not. But if the lack of ERP was stated from the very beginning, we wouldn't be here right now.)
16. How do you get those minions? I want the kitty. :
17. It's going to be down a full 24-hours whether we like it or not anyway. Just be patient.
18. ~28th Sun of the 6th Astral Moon, 1577~ (11/28/13) As I earlier mentioned, someone attempted to kidnap Alice. This was by a Moon Keeper Miqo'te we had actually met a few weeks earlier named Tsimh. She was hired by who she thought to be Alice's father, when it was in fact Alice's uncle. Alice said that it was likely that her uncle posed as her father in order to convince Alice to come back of her own accord, but she knew better. Her father had been killed by her very own hand. In order to avoid making this unnecessarily long, Tsimh overpowered both myself and Alice (with the aid of non-lethal poisons). I luckily came across Vallon, a Seeker Miqo'te that Alice and I met randomly one day, and he proceeded to aid me in tracking the two down. Our efforts were almost for naught, as Tsimh sought me out herself the next day. She demanded double the amount Alice's uncle offered her (two-million gil) if I wanted her turned over to me as opposed to the Empire, and that I would have a month to produce the money while she held onto Alice. In the time they had been together, Aice must have told her something that made her change her tune. I believe it was revelation that once claimed, Alice would likely be killed... and Tsimh as well. I was reckless and declared that I was going to initiate battle, despite the fact that Tsimh had two lackeys with her. I did not see what I had to lose at that moment. Alice was right there in front of me. I did not have to agree to such ridiculous terms when I could just take what I wanted. A barbaric thought process? Maybe. But it was efficient. That and had Vallon plus both my siblings as backup. I was well-prepared to fight her on sight before she even proposed the deal. ...But Vallon is even more reckless and spontaneous than I. Before I had a chance to even do anything, he charged forth and slashed whoever and whatever was in his path. Tsimh and Alice got the worst of it. I scrambled for Alice and began healing her. There were few occasions where I use White Magic over conjury... I chose that moment as one of the rare exceptions. My knowledge of the art should not be surprising, when Ingrid is gifted in Black Magic. She and I are essentially two faces of the same coin. I wanted to kill Tsimh. I was angry at Vallon for hurting Alice, but he did not create the scenario for it to happen. Tsimh did. Were it not for my sister, brother, and even Alice herself all holding me back... Tsimh's body would likely be at the bottom of the ocean right now. This thought does not illicit even the smallest bit of guilt from out of me. She had poisoned Alice twice (the first time was when we met her, but we didn't realize it at the time), kidnapped her, and even hit her. Not mention how she poisoned, injured, and groped me. This woman stopped deserving to live in my eyes from the moment she announced her true intentions. I do not know where she is now, but Alice did tell me of a good point she made (Ingrid had cast Sleep on me to keep me from killing her). This would not end with Tsimh. Unless Alice's uncle is killed, this will likely never stop. Tsimh was not even first person hired. Someone else that we had met was hired first, and Tsimh was instructed to kill them due to presumed failure. If necessary, I will work my way to Alice's uncle myself and convince him to leave her alone with my blade. In the meantime, we should be alright for now. There is an issue of Ingrid letting the one thing I wanted to keep hidden from Alice slip. She now knows that I am a murderer. Alice claims that she cares not about such information and I do not even have to tell her the story if I do not want to. But... It is not the sort of thing that can just get thrown out there and then left alone. I need to explain things to her properly one day. I do not know if she will stay with me after that... This frightens me greatly.
19. You're looking for 'Miqo'te working girls' who wanna be paid in 'Nuhn D'? ...Points for not sugar-coating anything, I guess.
20. I'm sorry, but... A friend sent me this and I thought it was really, really funny. XDDD
21. Excitement! Terrible font they chose for the 'A Realm Awoken' title, but whatever. The Lightning hairstyle is really cute when dyed. The things I'm most hyped up over are the Crystal Tower, Haukke Manor HM, Pharos Sirius, and the Aesthetician. Also... They're bringing Hildibrand back? Oh God... I don't even. I can't.
22. Tried my hand at drawing a friend's character (Alice Lancaster). It didn't come out well, I had a very hard time with her face. Mostly the eyes. But doing all of the hair wavies and curlies was fun. Also, I take terrible pictures because I'm too lazy to scan things in.
23. All of these are things I had in mind (changing a texture for an MMO model is easy), I'd just like to not believe them because I want to be able to dye things, okay?!
24. I do not know when they will let us dye Artifact gear, but seeing this in the most recent Producer Letter video has at least made me a tiny bit hopeful: One could argue that the character's wearing some developer-only gear solely for messing around in while testing things, but I don't think they'd go through the trouble. One could also argue that it may simply just be another colored set of AF2 or something, but I doubt that.
