  1. I have to say I resent this a bit. I don't want to be caught assuming offense here again, because I ended up with egg on my face last time. We Misericorde members aren't trying to troll your thread or ruin your day. We just disagree with you. I know Misericorde always ends up looking like the big bad e-bullies at the end of the day, but we're really just about furthering discussion. We disagree with a lot of stuff in the RPC forums, but it doesn't make us bad guys. We just often have a different opinion and we wish to express it, just as you wish to express yours. Somehow it always seems to get threads locked because we're not exactly masters of going about things with tact, but believe me when I say that our opinions are genuine and not just put up for the sake of hurting feelings. You have every right to say whatever you want, and I will always defend that for you in any thread you go into. I just ask that you respect my right to do the same in return. So, in summary, we're not an organization that goes around looking for feelings to hurt or fights to start. We just like to get into debates because you can learn a lot from them as long as they don't get personal. That's all I've got on that.
  2. While you bring up an admittedly valid point and I may have misinterpreted what she said, I still don't think rep points are really a solid indicator of anything. Furthermore, I never said "take the thread down." I said, "it's weird and I don't get it." so showing me "proof" that it's useful to people doesn't really negate my feelings toward it.
  3. If you wanted to moderate, you would have stopped at "It may just be me but I don't see how that was hostile in any way, merely stating that only a rare few actually feel the way that you do, while many found it to actually be a rather interesting take on things. " You could have stopped there. But you didn't. You started bragging about how much you love to push buttons, and that's when you lost all rights to use "I merely tried to moderate" as an excuse. Welcome to the debate.
  4. It is just you. Also, the idea that "only a rare few actually feel the way that (I) do" because Velkyron got one rep point and Myxie got 15 is a ridiculous statement. There are plenty of people who have expressed similar sentiments that have gotten rep points, I'm sure. Also, not everyone likes the rep system. Furthermore, her post has been around for a lot longer than Velkyron's, which has been around for about an hour. So using that comparison as an accurate representation of opinion is foolish to say the least. I won't get into your assumption that I'm easily offended, because frankly, it's just you who thinks that again. I will say your lalafell will not push my buttons because I don't really get how that character is offensive. To anyone. I don't even know why you thought was interesting enough to bring up. So, what we've learned here is that your entire debate structure is based on "U mad bro?" and has no real relevance to anything.
  5. First of all, +1'ing this. Roughly fifteen reputation boosts for the original post, a handful of very appreciative PMs, three friends requests, and eight pages of generally constructive discussion indicate that this thread was useful and informative to quite a few people. Are you really attacking me for giving a rep point to someone who disagrees with you? I'll ignore that blatant hostility toward a differing opinion for a second, and I'll go ahead and say, while miqo'te mating might be interesting to some, it shouldn't be considered the end-all be-all of miqo'te culture. No one seems to care how they got to Eorzea, when they got to Eorzea, when they broke off into separate clans, what their social structure (outside of bumping uglies) is like, exactly how tribal they are, how their tribal culture has been affected by the fact that instant teleportation is available in Eorzea, and how they assimilate into society. None of that seems interesting in comparison to how they mate. That's what I don't get. It's strange to me that this subject is the all-encompassing hot point for learning about miqo'te in the RPC. Sure there are other threads, but this one is by far the largest and it's completely fair to say that it's strange to me. I don't agree with you. Not everyone will. Don't get mad at me for it.
  6. As 'really into this discussion' as I feel like I'm becoming, I wasn't aware that I was trying to mate with any and every female Miqo'te coming my way. So, I highlighted some words for you to look at on the above post for future reference. Of course by "some" he could have meant "all", and more specifically, "You, Siobhain."
  7. Uther is the future! And the past! He's the Once and Future Character! I already told you on skype, but the piece is beyond outstanding. Thanks so much. I really appreciate you bringing some life to my character!
  8. First of all, +1'ing this. Yeah, the obsession with miqo'te doing it is a little weird to me. You might be putting way more thought into it than Square intended, and while I'm all for exploring different aspects of cultures and whatnot, it's strange to me that this one is by far the most popular. Just an observation.
  9. Ip Man is so sweet. I'm a big Donnie Yen fan, and I also enjoy some Kung Fu movies. Anything from the old cheesy 60's ones to the more modern ones that take themselves seriously. Kung Fu is rad. Anyways, welcome to the RPC. I'm Uther and I'll be happy to help if you have any questions about IC lore or the OOC community in general. (Disclaimer: my area of lore expertise is primarily based around Ishgard, so I might not be the best choice to help out with the Garlean defector arc, but I won't turn you away at the door either.) Overall, we're generally a friendly bunch and I assume the welcome wagon will be around any minute. That's pretty much all I've got.
  10. AFKing for 20 minutes to get dinner isn't bad. It's people who AFK for days that make me mad. It's not just their game. We all paid money for it. I have to disagree about the "if you don't do it, others will anyway" statement. While that's always a possibility, and there are people like that out there, I like to give others the benefit of the doubt. Whenever I log out for the night, I like to believe I just gave someone else a chance to play, and they'll do the same thing when they're done playing. It's all about being less selfish and trying to get everyone in who wants to play. We're a community, we should act like it.
  11. Frankly, the level of entitlement in this post is outright laughable. "Idling and staying logged in seems like the best course to take to make things easiest on ourselves." Really? Here, let's do some math. First we're going to assume you actually care about being a decent human being and helping out others. So you can stay logged in for 36 hours straight and hog it all to yourself, but like I said, we're pretending you give a shit about your fellow human. If the average casual player plays roughly 2 hours and then logs out, you could potentially cycle in 18 other players within the time you're sitting on your ass watching Netflix. Now, I know there's a distinct possibility that you'll let in another person like you who idles for days at a time, but the potential is there to give a great deal of people a chance to play. Moving on, we'll get to your jab at SE for daring to "think free time is a good apology". It's free time. That's time where they let you play the game for free. How are you complaining? I guarantee if they gave you nothing you would still play, because you're still interested enough to post on these forums. The correct response to this "insult" is "Thank you, Square Enix." The last paragraph, I considered not addressing because I honestly thought you might be trolling by this point. Yes, I'm sure Square's plan was to crash the servers so they could roll in the cash. It was a big conspiracy and we all fell for it. They're sitting back in their offices right now laughing and smoking cigars and curling their villainous mustaches. Grow up. They're more stressed out about this than we are. We might not be able to play a game, but their careers are on the line. Also once again, extended free time =/= rolling in the cash. Is there any other ridiculous statement you'd like to make or are you done?
  12. The situation does need to be remedied through Square Enix, but that doesn't mean players can't do anything to make it easier for others while Square is working on the problem. People will do what they do, and they'll also say what they say, so get a thicker skin. I'm not "taking it out" on anyone. I'm trying to help a shitty situation by suggesting that everyone lend a helping hand to their fellow gamer, and give them some time to play the game, too. We all paid for it but some of us haven't even been able to play. This is a logical matter, not a personal one. There's always someone on every thread who doesn't seem to know the difference. I haven't attacked anyone with my thread. I offered a helpful suggestion. If people want to find offense in it, they're going to find offense in it. At this point, I don't care anymore.
  13. Did you register your game code? Not just the early access code.
  14. Funny note on that... My best friend was doing that - Had left his character logged in while he was at work. He worked a 10 hour shift, and would periodically remote access into his computer at home to check if he was still logged in. He remained in and idle the entire shift. He gets home, moves to sit down and somehow manages to kick his power cord, yanking it from his tower. Logging off in such a fashion left his character logged in, which mean that when his computer was back on, he couldn't log in. Cause he already was. Karma? That's nothing short of awesome.
  15. I've been logging in and out all day with little issue. Worst I've gotten was a queue of 2. Then again, I haven't logged in for a few hours so maybe the peak hours have destroyed that.
  16. Their notifications on which servers are and are not available for character creation are just speculation, I'm pretty sure. I think it's an automatic thing done by a game mechanic itself. The most recent notification says, for instance, that Faerie is closed and Coeurl is open, and that they will send out a notification when it changes. Earlier today, while trying to make my main, the in-game list said Faerie was open and Coeurl was closed, along with some other discrepancies (those were the only two I remembered). So even if the list says it's down, it doesn't hurt to check for yourself. Keep in mind though that Balmung is exceedingly popular and is one of the names that has been on all eight lists. Best bet is to hope for a Sargantas moment. Server crashes and comes back up, no one notices it's back, the low population allows for character creation. Sneak in and make a character before it tells you that you can't. Of course, that's somewhat rare. Another optimistic outlook is that, because Balmung has been on the lock list for so long and it's easier to log in today, maybe they'll open it up for creation soon. Who knows? Never hurts to have hope.
  17. Hey, man, that really sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. I've been waiting to make my main but I can always hop on my alt if I get too bored, so at least I have that luxury. You can always try during the low-pop hours, though so far it hasn't really worked for me. Also, last night Sargantas went down for a bit and character creation went back up because no one knew the server had come back up yet. So you can always hope Balmung crashes. Other than that you're pretty much out of luck until next week or until SE implements an auto-kick function. As for your response to Magellan's post, I agree with every single word of that, pretty much.
  18. Unfortunately not until you've paid for a full month's subscription. At that juncture you'll be given an item called the Phial of Fantasia which allows you to change your appearance once. I believe they're also adding in a barbershop function sometime in the near future.
  19. Allow me to clarify. I didn't mean to explicitly state that we should give up spots to new RPers who want to play. I meant new players in general. I haven't always been a roleplayer, and I don't think the choice to abstain from roleplay makes anyone less important as far as the grand MMO scheme is concerned. I feel bad for anyone who has paid for this game and is unable to play. I'm looking at the character creation screen right now. Do you know how many NA/EU servers are available for creation? None. Zero. Another thing I'd like to point out. Some people are logged in for 16 hours while they aren't playing (sleep + work). In that time you could, potentially, cycle through 4-8 casual players. Just because some of us are RPers or some of us are more hardcore gamers doesn't make us more important, or give us the right to deny other people their chance to play. That's all I'm trying to say.
  20. Well, I said "like"... My first instinct was to bring it to the RPC's attention because I saw quite a few people doing it in Intermission (not going to name names) and we of all people should know better, because we are the ones who constantly preach about how much we care about new players and how courteous we are. Regular MMO players doing it is to be expected but I've been under the impression since April that this community holds itself to a higher moral standard. Needless to say, it was a post initially manifested out of disappointment.
  21. I wasn't taking it personally. I apologize if it seemed that way. I just speak my opinions plainly and don't enjoy softening my arguments with people who I feel are mature enough to handle the criticism. So, in a backwards way, it's a compliment. Either way, you bring up a decent point about making a thread on the official forum. That being said, you should have suggested that earlier instead of responding with cynicism for like 4 posts. Now we're just butting heads when we could have had an educational conversation.
  22. It's called Intermission and it's very big. You'll meet a lot of new people there. There are currently two Intermission linkshells due to the incredible amount of members. I'm not sure who exactly has invite privileges but ask around in the community and I'm sure you'll be invited within minutes.
  23. I've been playing MMOs for well over a decade. I realize that putting up a thread isn't going to magically fix everything, but at least people should know that it is effecting other players who can't even make characters right now. You should always be aware of your actions, even if "everyone else is doing it." Should I also not recycle because most people don't? You don't have to agree with me, but don't look down on me for trying to fight a shitty situation. That's all I'm saying.
  24. They live a very long time. Physically they stop aging at around 20 I believe, and there are lalafell NPCs who are still active at well over 100. Oldest I've heard of was around 130(?) and was still very active.
