Use a video to describe your character's class/job...

Uther Skystrider, my first character, is from Ishgard and has already gone back. I probably won't be playing him until the expansion. Eko Tenok, my current character, is going there in hopes of finding Uther and helping him however he can.

Noooooo. Oh well. I've worked out some stuff to make mine stand out more this time, hopefully. If all else fails I can always fall back on my original main. Either way, I'm back, for better or worse.
-
Zarek! No way! A name I recognize! Awesome to see you're still around.
-
Hahaha. I just removed that picture because I thought no one would remember Abodo. I still log on him from time to time as well.
-
I don't know how many of you remember me. I was around on these forums and in the game during ARR beta and release. After being bored for a really long time, I've decided to try this game out again for some RP. My character's name was Uther Skystrider, for those of you who might remember. Elezen dragoon from Ishgard (before it was cool to RP Ishgardians. 8-)) Anyways, I've had a bit of a change of heart when it comes to RPing certain character types. I'll be on Uther periodically for continuity, but my main guy now is probably going to be Eko Tenok. He's a character I came up with in ARR beta but never used much because I didn't want to just blend in with the hordes of male miqo'te that were popping up at the time due to it being a new race/gender. Here's the wiki if you're interested. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Eko_Tenok Someone find me and talk to me. I'm so lost in this game now. Help! ...Also, I'm still on Balmung.

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Grott replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
Now that I finally have Abodo Po created after 5 months of brainstorming a lalafell I'd like to play, I figure I'll throw these out. 1. The ladies and gentlemen at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. Pretty self-explanatory. They research and defend against paranormal threats. 2. John Constantine. Uses magic to fight magic, but he's pretty down-to-earth about it. Huge influence. 3. Sherlock Holmes. This guy is so focused on being a detective that he doesn't even know the Sun is the center of the Solar System. That's how Abodo is with his paranormal investigations. 4. Fox Mulder. Not only does he believe in all the weird happenings across the world, he's a guru on them. Abodo Po can tell you everything about any type of unexplained event in Hydaelyn, even at the risk of sounding nuts. 5. Victor Frankenstein. He's creepy. He's macabre. He has a lab. He experiments on dead stuff. -
Came on shuffle while I was picking up corpses for a quest in the middle of the night as Abodo Po. I know it's a cover, but this version's sound fits better. Lyrics have nothing to do with the character, but the vibe is spot on.
-
Those of you who have known me long enough will remember my name on this forum used to be Abodo. If you were ever wondering what happened to that character idea, here it is. Finally created him. "And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming."
-
Bumping this because I'm bored and finally created a character I've been brainstorming since before Uther. Abodo Po. He's little. He's creepy. He's gray. He's got beady eyes. He's got big ears. And he's often associated with the supernatural.

I'm following. I'm a history buff, personally, and although it's not my forte, I have looked into Japanese history and Samurai culture before. While I'm not an expert on it, I did spend at least a year studying it. I get what you're driving at with the cherry blossoms and Bushido and it makes a lot of sense. Granted, my view of the Samurai in modern fiction is based more off of Kurosawa films than things like Samurai X (one of the few animes I've seen and enjoyed.) As far as western heroes go, you bring up a solid point with Tolkien's own experiences in World War I (weirdly enough, I've also done some hefty research into his life, so now I'm double-following.) I suppose I'm just more of a Western style player than an Eastern one. My father is an amateur historian and collector of pre-20th century military antiques and I grew up on medieval legends of archetypical white knights and such, and it's still heavily reflected in my RP. I suppose it's a matter of taste and, in some cases, culture in the end. I agree with your whole post, but I wanted to highlight this. This is a good point. A lot of people, myself included, use RP as a form of light escapism (for some it's medium to heavy, but that depends on the individual). I used to go as far as to make my characters similar to myself in age, appearance, and interests, so I can definitely relate to this. Lately, I've started making characters that are closer to characters I'd like to see in a single player game or set storyline rather than just making a video game version of myself. Uther is a character that I sort of picture as the supporting guy in the series that's cool enough for a cult following, but isn't important enough to have his own series. That being said, when we talk about age, I tend to make my more recent characters close enough to my age for me to know how to RP them well, but far enough away so that I don't feel like I'm RPing myself anymore. For the record, Uther is in his early thirties, and I'm in my early-mid twenties.

Had a lalafell run up to us tonight and say "lol rp" He came back five minutes later and spammed /laugh and /chuckle for a few minutes. I thought it was kind of funny because our conversation was pretty serious. As accusations are flying and authority is being questioned, you have this little kid shaking his arms and laughing his ass off at something in the distance. I like to pretend it was a butterfly or a squirrel. I didn't mind it because blacklist exists to stop the chat spam and I can just ignore the guy easily enough, but I can see how it could bother some people.

I can see this side of it, but I do wish more people opted to play the older characters. I'm not saying there should be a ton of AARP members running around fighting monsters, and no one should be young. I just think it's a very cool character type that isn't used as much. Not everyone should be 50+, but I think we need to throw in more 30s-40s characters. Maybe it's a Western thing. I don't have much interest in manga or anime, so correct me if I'm wrong but they all seem to be much younger than characters like say Batman or Aragorn or most Western fiction heroes. I'm always a fan of the seasoned badasses. And for the record, I would definitely rather play Auron than Cloud. I suppose it's all preference in the end though.

Sometimes I think griefers are funny. One time we had a Roegadyn sit down in the same chair as one of us, completely covering one of our RPers as they were speaking. We all got a good laugh out of it. Another time we had four naked guys on goobbues start jumping up and down on us mid-conversation. They're assholes, but there's nothing you can really do except laugh it off.

Fair point. But not everyone was at Carteneau. Sure, it was a big battle, but what kind of army sends every available soldier into a single battle? What about standing armies, reserve units, guards, patrolmen, people who weren't deployed to that location, etc.? I would estimate only about 15% of the Grand Companies force was at Carteneau. If it's revealed to be any more than that, then all three of the major Eorzean governments are stupid as all hell. Plus adventurers come and go as they please. Some saw that there was zero, and I mean zero, chance of victory and decided not to go. If I was in an army of swordsmen and archers, I would probably skip the battle against the guns-and-airships guys, too. It doesn't make you a coward, it just means you're not suicidal. Hell, if Bahamut never showed up, the Empire would be running Eorzea today. A lot of people choose to play it that route. I wouldn't say, by any means, that the seasoned warrior population was eradicated from one battle. I could present the counter-argument that after Dalamud the world was pretty chaotic and you probably had to have some experience to survive, so the younger adventurer population could've just as easily died off. It's all about perspective.

I read the OP and nothing else because I'm tired. So forgive me if I'm just repeating something already said. I'll start by stating that the majority of Misericorde is between 29 and 40. Our youngest is 20-22ish, while our oldest is 48, I believe. We're not exactly geezers, but we're not the Hardy Boys either. Uther is 31, and he's been going to war (not getting into fights, I mean big kid war.) since he was 15, so he has that "battlefield wisdom" that makes him seem older than he actually is. His mental age is probably around 35-40. I think there need to be more older characters. In my opinion, there seems to be a disproportionate amount of teenagers fighting primals out there. It stands to reason that the truly effective adventurers would be the ones with military and survival experience. People who know how to kill and how to do business, not idealistic Jpop warriors. Players will always play what they want, and they have every right to do so. I don't avoid RP with young characters or anything, I just think the seasoned warrior archetype is underplayed in this game. Where are my Saurfangs, Gandalfs, Obi-Wan Kenobis, and Ra's al Ghuls? Old fighters, whether they be good, evil, melee, or magical, are awesome.

Character: Uther Skystrider Primary Weapon(s): Spears (and other shafted weapons including lances, halberds, pilums, javelins, pikes, etc.) Class-equivalent: Dragoon Style: Acrobatic, fast Offense/Defense/Versatile: Versatile, leaning on offensive Strengths: Reach, speed, strength Weaknesses: Technology, magic, small and agile opponents Summary: Uther was born and bred to fight dragons in Ishgard. He is a dragoon knight in both personality and fighting style. Being a dragoon, he uses a great deal of aerial and acrobatic fighting maneuvers that have earned him the name "Skystrider". To move around the bulking, flying mass of scales and fire that dragons are, he has to be quick and he has to be a hell of a jumper. He uses his art to defend, though his art, in practice, is much more offensive than defensive. He has tried to modify it for defense, despite his incredible reach and the power of his thrust making him a much more effective killing machine than a protector. As an Elezen, his arms are about 3 fulms long, and his spear is usually taller than 7 fulms. This gives him amazing melee range, which he knows how to manipulate extremely well. On top of this, his aerodynamic form and long stride make him very, very fast. Along with speed and reach, his Elezen body, years of practice, and weapon of choice allow for substantial power in each spear thrust or halberd swing. Few melee fighters can manipulate a battlefield like he can. Unfortunately for Uther, his time in Ishgard, away from most of the modern world, has made him ignorant to much of Eorzea's technology. In a recent battle with Isaac Jacobi, for instance, he was caught off guard several times by Jacobi's collection of gadgetry, causing him to lose the fight in the end. Magic has a similar disorienting effect on him. While not as foreign to him as high-end technology, any type of aether manipulation is poorly understood by Uther. Uther is an extremely efficient monster killer, and is nearly equally skilled at fighting targets of similar size to him. It is not entirely implausible for a quick-thinking and agile fighter of small stature to get by him, however. This is a problem he can remedy much more easily than his handicap against technology or magic, and it's rarely the deciding factor in a bout. Extra: Uther's fighting style is a result of mixing what I know of Ishgard, what I know of Elezen, and what I know of medieval combat. He is very much a white knight and will rarely attack first, unless he feels the ends justify the means. He doesn't fight dirty unless it's the only way to walk out alive against a much more powerful opponent. This type of chivalry often puts him at odds with his much more ruthless counterparts in Misericorde.

Nice to see fans of the classics. I'm a huge Led Head. A lot of Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, and Black Sabbath songs came into play when creating a vibe for my character. Most notably Battle of Evermore, Snowblind, Achilles Last Stand, Dun Ringill, stuff like that. So I can definitely appreciate a rock star character. I don't think I've ever told you this before, but your taste in music never fails to impress me.

Yeah, I hear ya. Uther is going to be a boring Hyur until Oct 5th. :frustrated:

I'd love to post here with a definite location, but right now Misericorde is sort of at war with itself... again. Most of the time you can find us in the wild or in random towns across Eorzea. We're busy folk, and we don't really have "usual haunts". I will say that most of our IC meetings have happened around Limsa Lominsa, and we're always popping up at scheduled RPC-wide events, both big and small. Keep in mind though that while we always welcome outside RP, we don't exactly partake in Happy Hour. I encourage anyone who can find us to do so. We're a bit rough around the edges, but we're an interesting bunch. To give some actual answers to the question: there's a lot of general RP that has nothing to do with us at Wineport, Costa del Sol, all around Limsa Lominsa, Fallgourd Float and Camp Bronze Lake. I personally spend a great deal of my time between the Observatorium and Camp Dragonhead.

The only way to get the veteran rewards if you're in the NA region and you're not legacy is to wait it out. I'm in the same situation. I want to switch my Hyur to Elezen. I spoke to customer support recently and asked how some people have their 90 day rewards while I still have nothing. Legacy's free trial ended earlier so they have already been billed and EU players have access to time cards, while NA players do not. Crysta is charged to your card after the trial is over, so it's got the same problem. Tough break. At least know you aren't waiting alone.

Homeless Balmung Roleplayer looking for a place to call home.
Grott replied to AsheRayne's topic in FFXIV Discussion
The Intermission LS is a good place to start. All RPers are welcome, it's completely OOC, and it's a great jumping off point for networking with the rest of the RPC. For IC, I'd suggest checking out the Linkshell Hall. It doesn't hurt to send some PMs to LS leaders/officers and asking them to explain what their LS is about and if they're recruiting or not. Good luck finding a home. -
Wow. That's really cool. Pretty rare occurrence. Everyone loves a good ol' fashioned random act of kindness.
