Well. They enjoy the comforts of not being dehydrated, burned, and/or dying of cancer.

There's no logical argument for not wearing a shirt in a desert. If you don't get that, spend seriously five minutes looking into it. It's not even something that needs to be debated. Simple science isn't really subject to opinions. But at the same time, it is a fantasy game and everyone wants to be as SexXxy69 as possible for some reason. Which, I find strange, but that's just me. Some people are into that. So wear what you want. It won't break my immersion, but I will ask you IC why you want to die of heat stroke in the desert and you'll have to find an answer for it. I'm more shocked by the fact that this conversation warranted 127 posts of "I can take off my shirt if I want to" and "They wear shirts in Saudi Arabia. EXPLAIN THAT." But I'm a part of it now, so it can't be helped.

Sounds good. I'll hit you up as soon as I can to see if you're free.

I think they're all worth the time! Amadeus isn't looking to ride the coat tails of important people. He enjoys the company and conversation of anyone he deems interesting. He would deem all of these people interesting. If you want to meet Amadeus IC with any of them let me know. Sounds like fun.

Oh cool. Sounds great! I'll send you a message in-game next time we're both online.

Hey, everyone. My FC and I have been going through an arc which is basically giving us all new characters to play. We're calling it "Misericorde Generation 2" as it's a newly formed field team where all of our first characters are taking a more managerial back seat, since a lot of them sustained physical and emotional injuries from the last war. With that, I've dug up one of my original character ideas. His name is Amadeus Greene. He's an ear-to-the-ground, knows-everyone-and-everyone-knows-him type of guy. He's been all over Eorzea doing whatever sounds interesting to him. Well, to really get the feel of a guy who knows everyone, I want to actually know everyone. (Also, I like you guys.) Expect to see him at every public event and at whatever walk-up RP I can find. In the meantime, I'm putting this thread in the Making Connections forum to see if anyone wants to RP with me so I can hammer out some subtleties in the character and get some good practice while making meaningful IC connections.

Had this guy for a while, just decided to start RPing him tonight. Pretty exciting.

So, I haven't caught much RP outside of my core group (I want to though! Someone! Please!) and we have no manqo'te in said group. ...There are stereotypes now? This thread is such an eye-opener to the Wacky World of Walk-Ups.

There isn't. Why not? Then I'm not understanding the problem. Do what you want.

I never go to the Quicksand. It gives me too many Club Caprice/ Prancing Pony/ Blue Recluse flashbacks where all RP in a gigantic world is confined to a single, stupid room. I'm assuming from this conversation that there is an overwhelming abundance of shirtless Highlanders hanging out in this bar. That's a little strange to me but, to be fair, the Quicksand is technically a private establishment and if there isn't a "No shoes, no shirt, no service" sign out front, you can be bare chested all you want and not break immersion. I just don't know why you would. I feel like there's enough cloth and leather in Eorzea to afford you to wear a shirt. Though... there is a distinct lack of farms to feed and clothe such a large population... so I'm not sure where it's coming from... But I digress. I don't think I've ever gone bare chested with Uther. His pale Ishgardian body might catch fire under that Thanalan sun.

Hey, welcome! I see you've got some concerns about the lore, but don't worry, you'll pick it up quick as you go if you just pay attention (or even half attention). If you're looking for walk-ups, I totally welcome them if you see me in the world. Countless others in this community do as well. Enjoy your stay! ...Please join the Red Wings if for no other reason than the humor.

The three sets on the right, and the two sets at the bottom, look outstanding. I love anything knightly. I hope that black armor has a face-covering visor. If it does, I could go the rest of my time in this game wearing nothing but that black armor and the dragoon set with the "apron." Pretty excited.

It's been a rough day for Wart. ____ Welcome home, Uther. I don't know who that guy on the left is...
-
Bummer. Always loved that helmet in XI.
-
Oh word. I thought I saw something that looked similar earlier, but I wasn't paying attention. I don't think they have the same style helmet though.

For Casual Wear. That sweet Lannister swag. And for my alt, anything that would make me look like this Also, this suit from FFXI was always my favorite

I can't speak for everyone. Uther is a self-exile from Ishgard, but he still has a generally positive standing with some of the Fortemps High House which his family was a part of. He visits Dragonhead semi-frequently to help when he can, but hasn't been to Ishgard proper in seven years. I'm on the lower end of the politcal-involvement spectrum. There are Ishgard roleplayers who are much more involved and educated on the subject than I am. Get in the LS. You'll learn all sorts of things.

There's a lot of complicated answers here and a lot of interpretations. I just figure ARR came out in 2013, and the official word was that it was 1577 at the time. It's 2015 now... so it would be 1579. I guess other people are seeing this differently? I didn't even know there was a debate on it. I just count it as 1579 and roll with it.

That seems like a misconception to me. Not every villain has to think they're doing the right thing to be a complex and likable character. I'm not talking one-dimensional psycho villains either. Those are the worst. Here's an example: Magneto Magneto, when written by certain writers, knows he's being a bad person. He knows he has the power to do great things, and he really would like to, but he accepts what he does as a necessity of the world he lives in. It doesn't change the fact that he is conscious of his own wrong-doing. You could argue "He still thinks he's doing right" but that's not necessarily true. He thinks he's doing what is required of him, as a man with the power he has. It doesn't make it right, and he knows that. He was a Holocaust survivor and he is fully aware of the horror of killing innocents. But he has done it. The entire argument of "your villain has to believe he or she is doing right" is an over-simplification that has been around for far too long. Your villain can absolutely be conscious of his or her own evil, and still be human. Not all villains are delusional. Another example: Captain Nemo Nemo is tricky as he is both a hero and villain in his own story. He sinks ships of sailors he doesn't know, and who physically can not harm him, because they wave the British flag. He feels awful about it. He knows it isn't right. But he's too far down the rabbit hole to turn back. He's both a man of science and a creature of emotion and it stirs deep conflict within him. Making a believable character is a complicated matter, and filling them with tropes harms their RP potential and the potential for RP around you. Edit: Ozymandias, another villain who knows they're doing great evil. There's a big difference, that people seem to ignore, between a character who believes they're doing the right thing and a character who believes they're doing the wrong thing but are somehow validated. The subtlety lies in how they handle it. And I don't mean screaming "What have I done?!" Don't follow simple steps that sound "deep" to create an idea. Use your imagination. It's how good stories are told.

Slight mention. I'll take it! But yeah, let me second what Shuck said. Uther has walked a lot of miles and gone on a lot of rough and morally ambiguous journeys with the crew of Misericorde. After the war crimes thing, he kind of wandered off into obscurity. Ghostbusters are great, but it's going to take more than Slimer to pull him back into the action. We've got a whole new thing going on, with new and old characters alike. It's a revitalization of the old Misericorde, with some new and exciting elements as well as some of the same old reluctant friendships that have been playing out for the past few years.

The first MMO I played was FFXI. I've always been really into myths and legends. At the time, I was kind of moving out of the myths and legends thing, and more into contemporary interests. I was completely obsessed with Ocarina of Time. I made a Hume warrior in FFXI so I could have a sword and shield like Link. (sword and shield is terrible for warriors, but I was like 13, I didn't know what I was doing.) I gave him red-brown shaggy hair and made him short. It was the first time I RP'd and I was terrible at it. When I hit level 30 and unlocked paladin, I realized in this game I had to wear heavy armor. I was in Ronfaure and the music, plus the distant view of San d'Oria as a big castle town, reminded me of the old Robin Hood and King Arthur stories. I started RPing him as a knight. I loved it. Being a knight felt so cool. But then I played FF4 because a friend told me it was a cool game. I was inspired by that game to try Dragoon out. For the next few years I played my hume as almost exclusively Paladin and Dragoon, being as knightly in RP as I could. I was still terrible, and didn't really know anything about actual knights, for the record. I let the game go after a few years, and moved to WoW with a friend of mine. I was getting older, and all high school edgy so I made my knight an undead knight instead. It didn't make any sense, obviously, but in my head I kept thinking "He's like my FFXI paladin if he died and came back FOR REVENGGGGGE" (Side note: my main was actually a rogue, but this was the guy I RP'd with in that game) I kept him around for years and years, gradually growing out of my teen angst and trying to do some good story-telling about a fallen knight. I explored other games for RP, too, like LOTRO, where I had a dwarf who was a completely different character, but it gave me more ideas for this original one. Finally, FFXIV was announced. I wasn't able to play more than about two weeks of 1.0, and then it went down. My dreams of "resurrecting" my paladin/dragoon were gone. THEN 2.0 was announced and I signed up for the beta! I remade my character as a Hyur. pretty much looking exactly the same but with some scars and some facial hair, like it had been a rough few years. Eventually I looked into the best option for playing a knight in FFXIV and I discovered Ishgard which fit perfectly into my love for both knights and dragoons. I turned Uther Skystrider (which was the name I chose for this game, after Uther Pendragon and the "Skystrider" lance from FFXI) into an Elezen, because it fit the idea of a noble more in this universe. Two years out from making him an Elezen, and he's still going strong. His morals have become more gray, but he's still a good person. His character arc isn't one I would've expected, but that's the beauty of creating a character with a strong personality. They tend to make more choices than you do.

I'm in the above person's screenshot, coincidentally. But here's Uther again! As a knight! An actual knight! Not some pretty acrobat knight!
