  1. Different weapon, but this is basically the basis of Uther as a character. Knight in a foreign land, not compromising his style, beating up their native warriors.

  4. Uther Skystrider's Family pt 1. Aronnax Fortemps: Uther's father, a dragoon knight of Ishgard and distant relative (through paternal line) of the Fortemps family which runs the High House of its name. He, and his direct family by extension, are granted medium rank nobility from their relation. He named all of his children after heroes he read about growing up. Arthur the Owl-Eyed: Uther's older brother, who Uther squired for in his youth. He is the only member of his family with cold gray eyes. Local myths say that he can see for one hundred miles in all directions and has the fastest reflexes in all of Ishgard. He and Uther have the closest bond of the family. Morgan Ironarm: Uther's older sister, and younger sister to Arthur. She was the first wild-card of the family, painting her face before going into battle and roaring loudly in combat. She fights with a sword and an extremely large shield in battle, as opposed to a dragoon's lance. Next time... Bors the Berserker, Igraine Durendaire, and Bedivere Windborne
  5. My alt, Eko Tenok, seems to get people. A lot of people say Echo, it's actually EE-koh Teh-nock. And the pronunciation gets weirder in his own tongue. That's on his wiki though. (Ay-ee-koh-t'-thenn-oh-ack... one word) My main, Uther Skystrider, is pretty straightforward. My last character, who I never really play, Wart Totonji is also pretty obvious. To clarify, it's Toe-tone-jee.
  6. And, on the agenda for today... We're getting acoustic.
  7. Uther doesn't know anything about magic, he's new to advanced technology, and he doesn't fully get the morals and values of the world outside of Ishgard. It doesn't cause him to be lost and sad, but he just thinks they're rude, and assumes they're going to do the right thing. (Now he's been here long enough to assume they aren't going to do the right thing) He believes in fairness to a fault. He'd fight every opponent one at a time in a completely flat field with the same armor and weapons if he could.
  8. The glass is probably half empty, but that's not a reason to be a baby about it. Do your job.
  9. That's definitely okay. I'm just now getting back into the community after a long hiatus, so I'd love to make some new friends. On LOTRO, I had a dwarf champion from the Iron Hills. I loved that character but, like you said, the population disappeared, plus the mechanics got a bit dated for me and I wasn't a fan of everything cool-looking coming from micro-transactions. I've always been a big Tolkien fan so that world was perfect for me to RP in, though. I had a great time while I was there. Totally agree about how that game focused on lore, exploration, and adventure above all else. That's the kind of RP I'd like to bring to the forefront of FFXIV. It's a different beast altogether and there's a wide variety of RPers in this community, but a good deal feel the way I do about that kind of stuff. I mean, what's the point of RP if you're just comparing clothing, right? Anyways, I don't mean to ramble on your Welcome thread. Hit me up when you get to Balmung. My name on that server is Uther Skystrider. I'm always up for some RP.
  10. Oh wow, I RP'd on LOTRO for a while and I loved the community there. Seemed a lot more based in good story-telling and genuine love for the world and its lore, and a lot less "look how cool I am". That was a great community (for the most-part), but the game itself couldn't hold my interest. If you're anything like the other great RPers I met in LOTRO, we'll get along really well. Welcome to the RPC! Feel free to shoot ideas at me if you're struggling with a character idea if you want, or you can just do some walk-up RP any time if you don't want to bounce ideas off a stranger. I won't be offended. I'd love to RP with you though.

    Hello!

Hey, me too! Now I'm definitely excited to see what kind of character you end up RPing. I love when magic isn't all that convenient and it's still met with some awe and fear.
  12. I was just wondering if something like this existed today. I feel like since I've come back to the game, Ishgard roleplay has become a more common thing. I figured I could be a big grump and say "I REMEMBER WHEN THERE WERE LIKE 5 OF US" or I could embrace it and try to get some good RP out of it. Obviously the second option is so much better. Clearly, there are some RPers out there who think Ishgard is as cool as I do, which is so awesome. I'll be contacting one of you for a linkpearl next time I'm online, if it's convenient. Can't wait to network with fellow Ishgardians. I'm the only one in my RP circle right now.
  13. You're my hero for saying this. Everyone here, be more like this person.
  14. Uther's back! First time he's shown up IC in over a year and a half. His face is a little dirtier and his hair is a little longer, but he's glad to be here!
  15. Nice. There's a lot to learn, and you'll probably have a lot of questions. I notice you're on Siren. I don't know much about the server, and I just came back from a pretty long hiatus from the game, but it seems to me most roleplay occurs on Balmung and Gilgamesh. Balmung is usually locked down, but if you're not too attached to Siren I'd suggest moving to one of the two. You'll have more luck finding RP on those servers. If you don't mind the RP on Siren and think they have enough roleplayers for your liking, more power to you. Just a thought. Let me know if you have any questions, or just browse the forums to see if someone has asked a similar question. The people here are always happy to help.
  16. I never RP in the Quicksand. It's crowded, there's too much going on, and Uther doesn't care to sit around in a bar in a city he doesn't even like. OOCly it gives me terrible Club Caprice flashbacks from Champions Online. What have I done? I will admit I haven't made a concentrated effort to bring RP out of Ul'dah, but I never RP in Ul'dah to begin with, and I've stated on many occasions that I'm open for walk-ups at all times. So if you're RPing with me, it will probably be outside of Ul'dah. And anyone can RP with me whenever. If anyone wants to make an event outside of Ul'dah, I'll be there and show my support in numbers. Or if anyone just wants to message me for RP in Gridania or Limsa for no reason other than to set an example of where else RP can take place, I'll be there.
  17. Welcome to the community. A lot of us have multiple characters, but we keep it to one account. It seems like you have a lot of questions about the game, in terms of both gameplay and roleplay. That's fine. Ask away. We're a helpful bunch. Enjoy your stay!
  18. I can relate. I have a small group of three or four RPers I mingle with, but I'd love to branch out and talk to some folks and really get a sense for the server's community. I wish I could help you past just telling you "I can relate" but there's not much I can do. I can tell you, though, that I'm almost always in-character and I enjoy walk-ups, so find me any time and our characters can... I don't know... get drunk and wander around together until we find more people to similarly get drunk and wander around with or something. Either way, I'm always open if you're feeling bored.

    Hello!

Welcome to the show. If you have any questions, these fine individuals and I will gladly answer them. If you're feeling kind of left out and alone, I'm almost always in character and open to walk-ups. My character is pretty personable, too, so I won't bite your head off or anything. I also won't be offended if you never decide to say hello. Up to you. Offer's always on the table. Hope you enjoy your time with us. I'd love to hear more about your character idea. I, too, rarely play spell flinger types, and it'd be cool to see how someone who's never done it before sees the idea. Fresh eyes on a concept are always pretty cool. Anyways, I'm starting to ramble. My bad. Welcome to FFXIV!
  20. For grinding with Uther. And this. And this while we're at it. Best song ever. The line at 2:38 is quoted as the caption in Uther's wiki.
  21. - How does your character deal with killing? He's not a sadist, but understands the necessity. FFXIV takes place in a chaotic time. Things happen. - How did your character feel after his/her first kill? Proud. He's a knight. He went off to battle as a squire at thirteen and felt he was helping his family and the war effort by killing something. - Does your character mull over it later on? No. Not really. If it was something incredibly horrific, he might feel bad about it, but he doesn't have nightmares or PTSD. He knows this is war and some people have to go. He wishes it didn't have to be that way, but he's not going to be a saint about it. Overall, Uther isn't a stranger to death, but he doesn't go around killing people for the sake of killing. It's not something he speaks about lightly, but it isn't something he'll shy away from. He's a former knight and a member of Misericorde, and it's a cruel world. He can't afford the luxury of pacifism.
  22. Uther was disillusioned by Ishgard after the death of his wife and unborn child. Became a lancing instructor in Gridania for a while. Got carried away by the war with the Garleans. Now he kind of wanders around fighting big bads for money and pride like it ain't no thang.
  23. Wart's just a clever guy with some determination. Not the best fighter so I wouldn't consider them "powers". His real prowess lies in his cunning and ability to see the bigger picture.
  24. I had one a few years ago based on the little people from the movie Time Bandits. Upon coming back to FFXIV, I've decided "Fuck it. Let's roll." He's become my main. Don't even care.
