Working, unfortunately. Gotta bring home the bills. In my spare time, I'll be reading. I've been reading a lot of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes books, but tomorrow is H.P. Lovecraft's birthday so I might have to have a Call of Cthulhu day. That should preoccupy me until the 24th. I might also go hiking if I can find the time. No video games are really catching my eye besides FFXIV and Wildstar.

I think you're worrying too much tbh. It's stress testing right before release, there's bound to be some temporary issues with servers. By release, everything should be right as rain. If not, just wait a day or two, it'll clear up.

This is all I've got so far. Eko Tenok, the civilized savage from a lost world, and my new main.

Space will clear up. It's day 2 of open beta, I don't think they're just content to call it a day on this issue. It is a bit annoying though. I'd also like to add that I only read the title of the thread and nothing else. I just haven't posted here in a while and felt I should. Hi everyone.

I suppose I'll do this one more time. I'm bored. One song for each of my characters. Eko Tenok Uther Skystrider http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBEBZiMb8-g Wart Totonji And for some humor... Eko Tenok (This one in particular fits amazingly well. Damn you, Phil Collins.) Uther Skystrider http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5UsVQS6hPs

Orlog's butts, butts, butts, and sometimes art thread.

Me next! Me next! Eko needs some artwork. -
Figured I would post again for my new character: Eko Tenok. My music for this ol' Tarzan wannabe would have to be this nice, soothing tune. (Unless he's actively killing things, then I'd have to find something else.)

Now that that's fixed. Here's my newest character, Eko Tenok: Wart's back in the mix with his muttonchops and his greasy hair: And we can't forget everyone's favorite Ishgardian vagabond! Here's Uther:

Working on a new character (possibly even my main) named Eko Tenok. I'll have him fully ready by phase 4, and a short story posted about him hopefully by tomorrow. Consider these tropes a "teaser trailer" Raised by Wolves - Close enough. Eko's people do not have religion, technology, money, a written language, oral legends, or anything more advanced than stone tools. Hungry Jungle - First twenty-some cycles of his life. Lost World - Eko's jungle-island birthplace. No one (including Eko) knows exactly where it is on a map or what it's called. Noble Savage - Raised in a primitive tribe of people who barely understand tools. Wild Child - See "Noble Savage" Walking Shirtless Scene - From birth to age twenty-something, Eko lived one long Shirtless Scene coupled with Loin Cloth. The Berserker - Eko is sophisticated until he enters a fight. Old habits die hard. Chaotic Good - Coming from a place with no defined law structure, Eko sees most authority figures as a nuisance at best and oppressors at worst. Determinator - Comes from both his bestial nature (in combat) and his obsession with the world outside of his jungle more than any specific altruism. Cultured Badass - Eko is a complete xenophile, and has learned to emulate sophisticated society. Genius Bruiser - Has an affinity for alchemy and linguistics, despite his history. Occult Detective - Logic: "It takes the dangerous and unusual to understand the dangerous and unusual." - This one's more of a reference to his membership in Misericorde than anything else.

The art of Distraction: Keeping yourself busy till phase 4
Grott replied to Felix Sideris's topic in FFXIV Discussion
To keep myself distracted from phase 3 to phase 4, I've been hiking like a madman. I'm trying to summit all 53 of the Colorado mountains above 14,000 feet elevation. I've got 7 so far. -
Just saw the colored Wart! Looks great! Thanks so much!

There's nothing worse than Miranda Leek's Twisted. I had nightmares about it the night you all exposed me to that rabbit hole of madness.

I love the Wart! Thanks so much! Your artwork is great, and you did an outstanding job on Wart! I'm honored to have a picture drawn of my character. It looks so good!

I didn't mean to hate on Iron Maiden. I love Iron Maiden. I'm more referring to the fourteen year old mallrats who sit around talking about Number of the Beast all day.

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Grott replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
I was thinking about this thread yesterday. Usually, when I'm in a beta and getting a feel for the game, I come up with a plethora of strange and different characters from my main and do a sort of process of elimination as time goes on until I narrow it down to one or two characters (sometimes three if I'm feeling really attached). It's kind of a plug-and-play sort of scenario. That being said, I'm working on a character that I really enjoy brainstorming. Whether he ever comes into existence or not is based entirely on how good I am at manipulating the character creator. I've been lightly talking about my ideas for him on the Misericorde skype lately, though not saying much. I got the idea from seeing pictures of Native Americans in the 1800s wearing business suits whilst simultaneously wearing feathers in their hair. The character is very much based on Tarzan with a fair amount of Queequeg, and even Beast from the X-Men, thrown in. The whole concept of the character is based on one who grew up in a tribe (in no way similar to the fun-loving half-tribes that the game's lore provides and everyone seems to adore. We're talking about loincloths, feathers, stone weapons, and possibly cannibalism. Seriously, they're barely more advanced than the rest of the animal kingdom) but, like Tarzan, taught himself to read by memorizing the coded shapes attached to pictures in children's picture books over the course of a decade. Later he learns to speak, after befriending explorers, and joins society. He wears nice clothes, speaks with a wide vocabulary, and has the manners of a gentleman; but his body is still covered in scars and tribal markings and, in battle, his instincts tend to kick in and he goes full-on savage. The back story is not established in the slightest, but I feel the character has some potential. I have little faith that the Miqo'te character creator will allow me to make him look as feral as I'm hoping, since SE decided all of the notorious feline hunters would be fourteen year old boys. Assuming I one day manage to defy reality and get him to look the way I want and I get over the fact that everyone and their mom is playing a Miqo'te, it should be a fun RP experience. We'll see, though. As of right now it's only a pipe dream, unfortunately. EDIT I'll throw in some sweet pics, since everyone else did. Tarzan, from Tarzan of the Apes: Primary Influence Queequeg, from Moby-Dick: Secondary Influence Beast, from X-Men: Tertiary Influence SECOND EDIT Since I'm a musical person, I also get inspiration from songs a lot. Here's a score that's helping me as I'm coming up with this character. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsmUd10jp7A -
Dominance Challenges: Seeker Cultural Conflict Explored
Grott replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in RP Discussion
I'd like to see a half-civilized/half-tribal Miqo'te who maybe has some nice clothes or speech patterns, but is still all tatted up and regresses to a more primitive state of mind when the time calls for it. Like Queequeg from Moby-Dick or Tarzan at the end of Tarzan of the Apes through The Return of Tarzan. I guess "if you want something done right, you do it yourself" kind of comes into play here, but I'm feeling too lazy to write up a back story for a new character today. I'll save it for a slow day in phase 4. Anyways, my point is basically just the fact that there are nearly no tribal or even half-tribal Miqo'te NPCs out in the world, despite this deep tribal lore we're provided for the characters. They present them as feral big-cat/people hybrids, when in actuality they look like teenagers mixed with house cats. -

Not what I'm saying. I'm saying the reason Miqo'te aren't tribal in-game while they are in the lore, isn't because "America's media would go crazy over it" or some such idea. There are plenty of highly accepted tribal themes in all forms of fiction and no one in America cares one way or the other. The real reason for the schism is probably because they half-assed the lore to make the race different from Hyur in more than just physical appearance. I'm not proposing FFXIV adopt the Rhonso. I was using that as an example of both a tribal race done correctly and a tribal theme that no one freaked out over. America isn't a giant Amish community, things like this are common in our games, movies, books, and television. -

I'll have to disagree on that one. I don't think the mainstream media gives a shit about FFXIV. And even if they did, look at how much people loved Avatar (I didn't, but people did.) and that's a very tribal culture. I'm not talking about miqo'te having weird sex in the streets. I'm talking about them exhibiting tribal behavior like Kimhari in FFX. -

Uh, are we talking about the same game? Spend about ten minutes reading some lore and get back to me on how lighthearted and cheery this game is. In all honesty, this game does an absolutely terrible job of connecting the Miqo'te we see out in the world and the Miqo'te we read about in the lore. From the lore we get this image of tribal cat-people hunting prey with their primitive weapons and powerful senses. They battle each other for mating rights, and they've adapted to become perfect predators. Then you enter the game and they're just sitting around in nice clothes with perfect hair and the soft skin of children, doing nothing. It's why I decided not to play one. I read the lore and thought "Tribal beast men. This is awesome." and then the game, most disappointingly, provided me with the option to be a fourteen year old boy. -

My sarcasm meter sometimes breaks on the written word. You're joking, right? Like, you don't legitimately think eating breakfast with a guy counts as credentials, do you? I don't really know who you are so I'm going to need some clarification before I take anything on this thread seriously. -
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

It's a clever facade. We're the scum of the earth.

What games are you playing/looking forward to?
Grott replied to Orlog's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I'm spending my days watching the X-Files on netflix, reading comics, and impatiently waiting for the WildStar beta. I'm starting to forget the world outside of my house. I haven't shaved in four days. I'm also waiting for phase 4. But I'm more patient about that, as my FFXIV lust has been sated for the time being because of the 5 day phase 3 finale. -
'EY! This isn't a social gathering! Shouldn't you be in class? You're a slacker, McFly! Shoo!
