We both interpreted that the same way, only I find it an interesting plot point instead of a problem. I think it's cool to see a side of Superman that isn't 100% understanding and right all the time. Sometimes he accepts his place as an outsider. Sometimes even the Man of Steel runs away from his problems, despite how godly and powerful he looks from a human perspective. I think, ironically, by being that outsider alien he is more human. He's lived here among us his entire life, but at the end of the day, no matter how much he tries he knows in his heart that he'll never be one of us. Namor, on the other hand, doesn't give two shits about being one of us. I like Namor, but only in small doses. His arrogance and his condescension aren't as endearing to me as they are for some fans. Whenever he shows up at the X-Mansion and tries to boss people around, I just kind of "ugh" at my comic. The X-Men have enough problems without this high school jock of a super hero trying to tell them what to do, even though he's been underwater pretty much since he found the Capsicle. He definitely has his moments were he admits that he respects the humans and let's them take the reigns, but those moments are few and far between. Also, no one acknowledged Dr. Fate? He's dark and Lovecraftian and obscure! ...I seriously think I'm the only Fate fan left on Earth.

Kent Nelson/ Nabu -- Doctor Fate This character is not a mantle, but an actual entity. Anyone who wears the Helm of Nabu simply becomes a vessel for the force known as Doctor Fate. In some continuities, the wearer of the helmet even goes insane after long enough exposure to the sheer power that comes with it. Nabu provides enough power to make Superman look like a toddler and enough wisdom to make Gandalf look like an idiot, but with it comes an inevitable descent into madness and loss of one's self. Allegedly inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the Doctor Fate story is one based on forgotten relics, unimaginable power, and irrevocable insanity. Although Smallville is not a great canon indicator of a character, I thought this was appropriate:

I hope you're all not genuinely suggesting that we keep using this thread if we want to discuss Superman, as not to offend people. It's Superman. If you're past the age of six and you get offended when people trash talk Superman, you've got a problem. I'll be on the old thread, discussing Superman if anyone needs me.

Here are two of the many great moments from Kingdom Come that I feel show a lot of depth in the Superman character and it makes for an outstanding read.
-
No. I'm a huge Superman fan and this is the "Favorite Comic Hero" thread, so this is where I'm going to discuss him. Anyone and everyone here can disagree with me, but I'm not going to censor myself to another thread to avoid offending someone. He's a fucking fictional alien hero from America's Golden Age. Get over it. The debate goes on. Come at me, bro.

I second this.

Yeah, that's a pretty good explanation right there. I love Superman.

EVEN THOUGH I HONOR YOU, GUILDY, I'm going to have to disagree here. I used to feel the same way about Superman as you, and it's kind of hard to define his appeal in a few short sentences. I can definitely recommend some reading though that might change your opinion of him. Kingdom Come and Superman/Batman: The Search For Kryptonite are both outstanding reads. Really the entire Superman/Batman series that Jeph Loeb started is nothing short of amazing. Superman: Earth One also puts the character in a better perspective. I will say this, in your defense, he is very difficult to write well. Most writers fail miserably with Superman because they can't seem to give him character beyond "I'm good." But, when he's done well, he's done very well. When creating Uther, I had the same issue. I thought "well, he's a 'good guy'.. now what?" and I actually had to re-read those comics I just named and a few others to get inspiration on how to make him more than just a one-dimensional 'good guy'. Sorry that was kind of void of any real argument, but it's difficult to explain. I highly suggest reading those comics. Kingdom Come is one of my personal favorites because it has the same "Classic super hero tale flipped on its head" vibe that Watchmen has, though in a very different way. It asks a lot of questions about how to handle super criminals and what really makes a super hero a super hero.

Hahaha, I'm fine with that. People can't always agree on everything. Maybe my issue is that FFXIII is too... fresh? I mean, clearly the Dragoon armor is a tribute to Kain from FFIV, and the same could be said about the Paladin armor and Cecil (unless there's some other FF I'm not thinking of that has that armor). And I love both of those sets. They're iconic, and they scream "Final Fantasy!" to me. I just dislike the idea of putting in clothing from the most recent FF into the game already, it just kind of seems tasteless to me... Unless they put in Auron's coat from FFX... Then all bets are off and my opinion might have to flip 180 degrees. Idk, to be honest my initial response of shock and disgust feels like overkill in retrospect. I still think it's kind of lame, though. Granted, this is just my opinion and everyone is free to disagree. I'm not going to be the in-game clothing police or anything.

I haven't read all 90-something responses, but I can honestly say I don't like this. I remember every Final Fantasy having its own unique story, feel, and look, with few similarities between them. This is blatant and obvious fan service to get more advertising. FFXIII is their cash cow right now, and they are just beating it to death to get some extra cash. I bought this game to play FFXIV, not FFXIV Presents FFXIII. Of course one could make the argument "Don't wear the gear if you don't like it." but frankly, I don't even want to see it. And that's all I have to say on this subject.

...... /flex Yeah, we are a badass bunch. Some feedback, I'm a little biased toward this story because I RP an Ishgard-born Dragoon who left to go join the Grand Companies in hopes of preventing the (then) coming Calamity. His whole issue is dealing with being a stranger in a strange land, and his strength is entirely based around his personal code of ethics and chivalry. So, that being said, I can't help but enjoy this little homage to us "old fashioned" Dragoons. I think your story has a lot of potential, and I like that W'Dekan is no one special. He's just a dude who decided he would rather hunt with a spear instead of his fists or a bow, and it kind of shaped his world through the role model he chose. As someone who RPs the classic chivalrous knight with a slight twist, I can definitely respect the choice to play a character who is a sellsword but also a kind-hearted individual. Frankly, I really like this, and I hope we get to interact in RP. It'd be a lot of fun. I'm sure more skimming will allow me to find some things that you need to work on, but all-in-all you have a good start here.

This is how everyone should feel about the new server. Balmung should see Gilgamesh as its cousin server, not its competition, and vice versa. I can't wait for all of this to settle down so we can go back to arguing about stupid small things we get over in 5 seconds.
-
I play a lalafell tank so I hope it doesn't matter...
-
I'm just going to say that, while I harbor no resentment toward Gilgamesh and wish them the best of luck, I'm new to this game and this community and I'm going to Balmung. I've already found a handful of roleplayers who have made me feel more than welcome in their group, and I don't see joining a legacy server causing any more problems than starting any other game a few months after it's been launched. To me, there was never any issue about this. Good luck to the Gilgamesh players, and I hope to interact with the rest of Balmung's RP community soon.

Another awesome choice. I love this thread. Talking comic books is the best.
-
Hahahaha those pictures were a lot more humorous than the one I put for Batman. Have you read the issue where he wears that ring? It's not as epic as I was hoping. He puts it on for like two frames because Hal Jordan wants to show him what it means to have it. Although he did get a yellow one for spreading more fear than anyone in sector 2814. He rejected that also, though, because he's not an asshole. ...I talk about Batman a lot, sorry.

"A man without answers has two choices: to retreat into the shallow darkness of his own ignorance, or to brave the cruel light of discovery." - Vic Sage Excellent choice. I love The Question.
-
I just want to emphasize this. I don't really have anything to add.
-
Meh. Redacted. Boring post anyway.
-
Sure thing, lamb. ....Nice.

Always a good line. It's a shame that the comic that line comes from was a huge piece of shit though. You're better than that, Frank Miller.
