Archimedes if I can. Sticking with my use of names from Arthurian legends.

K'herr Tia. Problem solved. Simple is usually better.

This is looking like a great game to be a roleplayer in. Cool feature. Tell me I'm not the only one noticing the paradox between this and the Foggy Memory Syndrome though...

Not much of a crafter, but this sounds like a fun idea even from the outside adventurer's perspective. You've got my endorsement.

^ Caught my eye. What do you read? Sorry if this is off-topic, I've followed DC and Marvel (and occasionally Image and Dark Horse) religiously since I was six so when someone says "comic collecting" I perk up like a meerkat.

Some city-states are more prone to be populated by certain races. Ul'dah was founded by Dunesfolk Lalafell and a lot of Highlander refugees from Ala Mhigo live there. Gridania is populated mostly by Wildwood Elezen and Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te. Limsa is predominantly occupied by Sea Wolves, etc. There are a few more I'm forgetting (Hellsguard works as Ul'dahn mercenaries is the only one I can remember off the top of my head.) As for stereotypes, I'm not too familiar with them but I know Elezen are seen as snobby and rude while I think Dunesfolk are seen as thrifty and frugal. Those are the only ones I can remember.

I'm not much of a mentor or anything, but I love giving feedback and I try to be objective about it. So if you have any questions about character ideas, hit me with them and I'll get back to you ASAP. I'm on this site pretty frequently so I'll get back to you quickly.

So, like he said, it's a wonderful stress-free environment!

You have no idea. Great fan fiction stuff in the works. But I don't mean to get the thread off topic. Back to what you were saying...

Still 20, as far as we know.

Uther was raised by a half-breed Hyur, so he was taught to respect all other races. That being said, he is from Ishgard which is a pretty backward place, so he has a few weird quirks when it comes to race. Being very knightly and classically chivalrous, Uther can't really relate to the Keepers of the Moon's matriarchal society. This isn't because he belittles women, his sister is as strong and fast as he is. It's just not how the roles work in his culture. At the same time, he also doesn't understand the Seeker of the Sun tradition of one male taking many female mates. He very much believes in strong, mutual dedication between two partners. He doesn't belittle Lalafells either (pun intended...), but he will assume they are scholarly and physically inept upon first meeting them. On the other side of the coin though, when he meets a Lalafell with great combat prowess he is doubly impressed. As for attraction, Uther tends to be attracted to Elezen females for their elegant form and mannerisms. He has also been attracted to Midlander women and rarely he'll be attracted to a Miqo'te or two, but not often. He shies away from Roegadyn females because of his sense of roles (which was discussed by Rock earlier), and Lalafell females because... well he's a grown man and that's gross. Really though, he's cool with all races for the most-part. He even has a son (that he doesn't know about) who is 1/8th Highlander, 3/8ths Midlander, 1/4th Duskwight, and 1/4th Wildwood, if that's any indicator. It's important to keep in mind that for most people Eorzea is a melting pot and racial tension is pretty low. For purposes of avoiding confusion, I'll add this in: Skald Skystrider (1/2 Midlander, 1/2 Highlander) and his wife (Midlander) gave birth to Uther Skystrider (1/4 Highlander, 3/4 Midlander). Uther had a child with Igraine Jevoux (1/2 Duskwight, 1/2 Wildwood). The child was Bedivere Windborne (1/8 Highlander, 3/8 Midlander, 1/4 Duskwight, 1/4 Wildwood)..... The kid probably looks like a freak

I resent that. Didn't we all technically survive the apocalypse? Unless someone is RPing a four year old and not telling us. I'm going by the scripted storyline they're writing, not RP-story. That's fair. As long as you don't RP that everyone past 1.0 is an outsider with the Echo who's new in these unexplored lands. Well said. I can agree to that.

Last time was on purpose just to piss you off lol. Changing it to Uther permanently now. The first slip up made me realize how much I hate that my username is Abodo

I'm sorry, guys! I just realized this post had responses. Must not have noticed them before. And yeah, RPing in a tavern gets boring. It's a lot more fulfilling to explore the world IC with a group of friends. Glad some people agree. Champions Online RP was so stupid because everyone would just hang out in the club... We're super heroes! Why are we sitting around in costume in a dance club when we should be saving people?! Good! I'm glad to see there are a few RPers like us out there. I hope to see you in-game and interact with your character. Should be a lot of fun.

Probably the best course of action. You mean like I said in the third post of the thread? Come on, people, catch up! Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... whoa Eaaaaasy. I read your post. I just didn't need to scroll to quote Merri's. Plus look at Merri's smile. He's downright charming. I resent that. Didn't we all technically survive the apocalypse? Unless someone is RPing a four year old and not telling us.

I'd love to see Ranger in FFXIV. I wanted to make a bandit bowman character, but I stopped caring because I didn't want to be cornered into singing songs and dancing around. Thief would be a lot of fun, I've always loved Samurai, and Corsair is one of my favorites.

I'd like to point out that while I don't have the RP experience or the time to be a full-on mentor, and I'm still learning some things myself, I do feel I have enough know-how when it comes to RP to answer any questions anyone might have. Especially if they don't want to dedicate themselves to a mentor. I like giving feedback as well.
-
That's fair. I can agree on that. I'd like to clarify what I said earlier, also. I didn't mean to imply that every student should be forced into whatever mentor snags them. What I meant was that once they've been snagged there's no binding agreement that says they can't leave and go to another mentor if they don't like the RP style of their current mentor. I don't have an official mentor though and I'm not seeking one currently, so feel free to ignore everything I say

It's really a matter of who can handle the most. I mean, being faster and grabbing the most students isn't necessarily the right way to go about it (while being hilarious from a third party perspective), but I don't think it's wrong either if Shuck can handle it. As long as he can dedicate the time and patience into working with all of them, why not let him go for it? Some people may be able to put more on their plates than others. I don't necessarily think he should be stealing students from other mentors, but some mentors might have a different teaching method or schedule and will only be able to handle one or two at a time. That being said, I think everyone should at least get one student or it'll turn into Professor Shuck's Roleplaying 101 Class. But really, if he can handle it, he can handle it. He clearly has the enthusiasm. On the note about students choosing their mentors. This is valid I suppose, but most people that are new to RP don't really know which direction they want to go in. In my opinion, introducing them to one initially and letting them decide if they want to stick with it or go to another mentor is the way to go about it. Just some thoughts.

I would say that since no one really knows what the laws in Eorzea really are, some common sense applies. Things like treason, theft, murder, and any type of brutality would obviously incur some jail time (or even time in the arena for Ul'dah), however I don't think a bar brawl will end with you getting arrested by Wood Wailers. I also don't expect anyone to RP that they spent three weeks in jail if they don't want to. To add to that, there are also some cultural differences to take in. For instance, Ishgard probably has some laws surrounding their military discipline and religious zeal.

Nice choice of scar. Uther has the same one. Coolest scar choice for Midlander by far.
-
Probably the best course of action.

This is the easiest way to do it. It allows for the confusion that the lore is going for but it doesn't completely erase past relationships. Uther was in Ishgard for the entirety of 1.0 so he won't really have to deal with this, but it'll be interesting to watch how this fuzzy memory thing plays out with everyone else. Another thing I'm wondering is if for some people it'd just be easier to ignore this problem. I know that sounds a little like lore blasphemy, but it's not too uncommon. For instance, how many of us actually are from "somewhere else" or have the Echo? In Uther's case, I replaced "somewhere else" with Ishgard, and any time he's referred to as "special" or "different" I sub in either being damn good with a spear, being from Ishgard, or that inner-dragon thing from the Dragoon story arc. It's worked out so far.

Adding in screenshots is definitely a good idea for this thread. Especially for those of us who didn't get to play or interact with the RPC in 1.0. Guess I'll jump in. I Want to Be Your Canary.zip
