  1. You seem like a pretty nice guy, and I'd love to try a scene with you to see if we click. I prefer not to have to wander into the QS alone as well, and prefer to do either one-on-one scenes or small groups of friends. Community events are also a lot more fun with a partner, and even going into the QS is much easier with another person. I shot you a message on Discord to set something up, if you see this in time, we could try something tonight!
  2. You don't need to know anything, because most of the Final Fantasy games happen in their own universes and are not connected at all. There's plenty of clothing, don't worry about that at all. There's almost TOO much. Seriously. The server question is the only real problem you have to worry about. Balmung is THE RP server, and it used to be so full that the only way to get in was to transfer. SE locked it up now so that doesn't even work. Gilgamesh was another alternative RP server, but the "progression" community murdered and chased RPers off the server, so don't even bother with that place Mateus is the new hotness, and its turning into what Balmung was before Balmung was locked. My recommendation is that you just try the game without worrying about RP servers first, just to see if you like the game, If you do, then shill out to transfer to Mateus or Balmung if its unlocked by then.
  3. Stand your ground, you should care less about the issues they fabricate than they do. If they get snarky about your race, get snarky back. It's only as true as you make it. If someone tries to force you into a fight, tell them no OOCLy. If they try to force you further, then just god mode willy-nilly until they rage quit, and if they try to hold it against you point out that you didn't want to fight. Who care about the op ions of such people.

  5. Great leadership and members, they run events all the time, as well as continuing RP scenarios in the discord. Recommended.
  6. I brought this up before in a linkshell, but apparently my reasoning was too outrageous for anyone to calmly talk about it, and instead I was personally insulted by something like 5 people because of having such an extreme opinion on this matter! Buckle your seatbelts, because after the last time I said what I'm about to say, I got blown out of the water for it...are you ready? Okay. 1) I think that jump potions and MSQ should meet in the middle. 2) I do not think that SE should monetize the game's failings 3) I believe in permanent long-term fixes to problems instead of extreme solutions (everything or nothing in this case) 4) They should just create a streamlined, much shorter series of quests that tell the story of the game, while removing all of the fluff and fetch quests. 5) While doing this, they should bring more emphasis on players doing instanced content via the leveling roulette, and motivate new players to advance through the story and allow them to IMMEDIATELY play with their friends from level 1 The story doesn't need to be skipped, it needs to be improved. What kind of message are we as players sending when we say, "Not only will we not care if you don't fix this horrible, broken, destructive part of the game that drives away new players, but we'll actually PAY you extra money for not fixing it to offset the lost revenue of the players who have quit the game over it!" Paying SE extra cash to bypass a broken part of the game is just insanity. What motivation do they have to fix the game's issues if they are paid for not fixing them? What other issues will arise that they will simply make a jump potion for in the future instead of fixing those problems? Monetizing problems with the game is really scummy, moreso than any other possible monetization. I don't believe jump potions should exist outside of the players who have already achieved level 50 and beyond, and instead I believe that a more intricate overhaul of the MSQ is required, as well as an overhaul of the new player experience. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed with a serious solution. Slapping a pricetag on a potion to skip it all is most certainly NOT a solution. Its paying them to avoid making a real solution. Its bad for the game.
  7. So many great responses, but after some speaking with people in game, I've decided to write this into a backstory short story fanfiction instead, as I've found the ending to the situation. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll be posting it here, as I just went maximum-edge on it, and there's quite a few parts that would most certainly not be okay to post on this board! I may make a censored version and post it here later. Thank you guys for being encouraging, I've already torn into it, and I'm very happy with the results so far! Next stop: TO THE EDGE OF EDGE
  8. Hello everyone, longtime lurker here! I've recently had an inclination to throw off the shackles of balance and sanity and fanta'd from a highlander into a cat! In the course of doing this, I've decided to really refresh the game to myself by maining a new class and making a totally new RP character who is also completely different from any RP characters I've ever made in the past! I thought about it for a while, and I've always admired seat-of-the-pants edgy characters (even if they are a bit shallow a lot of times). I've come up with a basic character concept, but I was watching The Resurrected the other day and it got me thinking about stuff! So even though I have a functioning backstory for my character at the moment, I'd like to summarize this idea to see if its too wacky to even attempt. I work at a bookstore, and I have so many different rulesets for various universes and fiction that unfortunately they kind of bleed into each other in my head, and I don't have a great gauge of what is too outlandish for a certain universe (especially when I've gone out of my way to be as edgy as possible with this character!). I don't wanna be an annoying time waster though, so I'll skip the fluff and get right to the idea I wanted to present for some ruthless critique! The Concept! The character is murdered after some drama, and wakes up in some kind of underworld/purgatory (represented by Palace of the Dead). They are attacked by monsters/demons inside, and have to fight them off while moving from rest-spot to rest-spot. This goes on for a very long time (maybe even years?), with them meeting other people inside the labyrinth. Eventually she finds her way to the "top" floor, and there's a hole that opens up to the sky. They walk outside to find themselves back in the mortal world, and are very disoriented about where they are and how they are, as they specifically remember dying and know they were dead. Quite maddened by their predicament, they sit next to a tree, where they fall asleep...and when they wake up, they find they are back in the maze, except even further down! They notice its much hotter and darker, and so they make their way up again, butchering monsters en masse until finally they reach the top, but this time it begins to fill with dirt as they approach! They dig through the dirt with their hands, and notice as soon as they are outside in Eorzea again, they are immediately wracked with what feels like months worth of sleep deprivation, but conclude that if they fall asleep they will be taken back, this time in an even hotter and darker place that they won't be able to escape from. So they go looking for someone who can help them, a mage of some kind? Someone who can find a way to cure their tiredness so they never have to sleep again? That's as far as I got! I know there isn't much basis for it in-game that I can think of, but I also can't think that it actively conflicts with anything, and I thought it was a kinda interesting (and very edgy) concept. I've always thought potd was very interesting, especially because it feels like there's such a lack of understanding of it (maybe that's just me!)
  9. I send them on a long undefined quest, and fanta+name change my character, if I ever feel like changing back, they can just return
  10. A great deal of GITS street cred is that it was what a lot of people consider to be the first animated movie that reached the level of visuals, narrative, and seriousness of a well executed live action film Making an actual live action film of it is kind of oxymoron when you think about it
  11. Think about what you actually want to do through the character, do that, then allow the personality to form as you do it. Try things as they come to you, experiment as you like, and note the things you want to keep. The first 1 or 2 sessions will be rough, but by the third session you will have a character that is perfectly sculpted to you and your purpose. Then lay out your notes and connect the dots until a bigger picture emerges, you don't need to spend hours and hours pondering and writing lots of throwaway ideas. An rp character is easiest to grow if you just plant it in the soil of rp, then water it. Once it's grown a bit, then all you need to do is trim it.
  12. Step 1: Find partners interested in the type of RP you are interested in in the long run You can do this by a)Putting ads up on the forums, this site, or other sites where rpers in this game are known to congregate, b)finding a free company that does the type of rp you are interested in and getting with people within that fc, or c) doing social/public RP in the Quicksand, meeting people there, and interviewing them individually to see if they'd be interested in the type of RP you are looking for Step 2: Network using one or all of a-c above, get a group of players that you know and just RP with whoever is on or around and build a group of your own, you might be able to form a LS for this purpose, or just use a LS to meet more people within other people's networks Step 3: Maintain your relationships or axe them, don't just keep a massive friends list for the sake of having lots of options, if someone doesn't jive with you or breaks promises to you, move on, there's plenty more people who will match with you Give it a month and you'll be absolutely bathing in RP, maybe even more than you can handle or desire
  13. This entire topic is fascinating from a social research potential perspective
  14. To be perfectly honest I don't see that much of a problem with it, but like being super strong, super handsome, super important super skilled, and super rich, it really falls into the category of "possible but lame." Can you do it in the game story? Of course you can. It's totally possible. But if you do it, just like someone who is super rich, strong, liked, important and beautiful, there are people who are going to think your self-proclaimed special snowflake traits are lame and cheap. Every RPer has to deal with the consequences of what they choose to RP, and just always playing it safe to not offend anyone does not automatically mean you are doing things "right." Like all things in RP, it all can boil down to presentation and usage. You could have a character who is perhaps from FFXI, but is so mentally scarred from the transfer process, that they can't or don't talk about it ever, and never reveal it. Never revealing it would still affect them, but in ways where the effects could be seen, not the cause itself, which could result in a deep character, and if you did finally reveal it at some point, other players who discovered it may be much more impressed with the reveal, enough to enjoy it. It's a lot like being a dragon in the warcraft universe, if anyone has played that. 99% of people get it wrong because they just want to be strong, powerful, and beautiful. It's the 1/10,000 players who get it right, but when they do, they really do get it right, and you'll find a great character in there that's very memorable. You would need to do a lot of meditating on what you want out of the character. If all you want to do is import your character from one game to the next ala Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2, its going to cost you the disdain of many players. If you are soft handed with it, subversive, and very unrevealing, to the point where revealing it is a direct circumstance you actively avoid, then you may earn the respect of many players. Just my 2 cents.
  15. I was being personally attacked several times beforehand? Just because they didn't use any direct nasty words doesn't mean it wasn't happening. Great job on not knowing what you are talking about. I am the victim here. I was asked for my feedback, I gave it, I was insulted repeatedly, I stood up for myself, and now I'm being given a warning because I did the right thing and stood up for myself. I was being insulted. I was being bullied. Me. Not him. Me. He shot first. I gave honest feedback and he insulted me over and over and over. If there wasn't a cause there'd be no symptoms. And I'd like to point out that I called his -idea- stupid, he responded by calling -me- stupid. You are contributing to him bullying me. You, him, and the moderator are attacking me for standing up for myself when I'm being attacked for literally no reason whatsoever. What is wrong with all of you? EDIT: Whatever, I'm dropping it here. Leave me alone and stop trying to get the last word. I posted the evidence. Nothing you say can magically change what is clearly there.
  16. Oh yeah, I sure wasn't being constructive or offering any feedback, alternatives, or anything, and I sure swung first Whatever, you are just being a passive aggressive bully, repeatedly insulting someone, then running to the mods like a baby when you realize that -gasp- there are consequences for repeatedly insulting someone and playing the victim card when CLEARLY you swung first
  17. lol whatever dude, you just want to be a robot and be a passive aggressive dickhead Just your first response was oozing with passive aggression and agitation, your response was even more agitated, and this one just reeks of passive aggression, holy crap you want to play a robot in a fantasy game, some people are going to think its stupid, no need to go on the rag about it Not reading anymore of your responses, as far as I'm concerned, you're just a rude trash roleplayer who I'm just going to ignore, get over yourself and your shitty attitude Mod: user was warned for this post.
  18. I don't understand -why- you say it's a bad idea. Is it the part in bold? Well, she does blend in, because Allagans do have the technology to make a perfect human-looking robot, and she is supposed to feel somewhat "alien" when she does something. And, well, I obviously don't go around saying "IM ACTUALLY A ROBOT HURR DURR". She doesn't ICly know it either. She's slowly remembering something from her past, but even if/when she remembers, I'll keep it an hidden thing, unless people ask about it. lol uhh okay, being just a teensy weensy bit defensive there, yeah? And I don't know you, so I don't know what you OBVIOUSLY do or don't do Way to deal with criticism, whatever. If you are just going to nod your head in agreement when someone agrees with you then plug your ears and scream when someone doesn't, then I'm not sure why you even asked others their opinions in the first place. Play your character however you want and let us know how it goes.
  19. I don't see anything really wrong with this idea, and it isn't something that's super common either. Just know your lore -really- well, and be prepared to ICly dismiss questions that demand answers you OOCly don't know. With as many crazier things that we've seen happen, I don't think a single person being stuck in stasis would be too far-fetched.
  20. For some reason it feels like polygamy is something miqo'te do in their tribes/families, without that, it doesn't seem like it would be something they felt like they HAD to do. Not sure why I believe that.
  21. Uhh...I thought the whole deer hybrid thing was just folklore in the first paragraph, but the second makes it clear that you are being quite literal. Honestly this idea is very uhmmm...strange. There's plenty of in-game "split personality" mechanisms you could use with the classes (warrior inner beast, dark knight's whole quest line) instead that while kind of cheesey in their own right, at least they make sense/exist within the lore
  22. 1: What’s your OC’s biggest insecurity and how would they react if someone pointed it out to them? That her behavior seems ingenuine or somehow wrong, if someone pointed it out, she'd simply deny it and change the subject 2: If your OC wants to buy a firearm, what it might be for?Self defense of all categories only 3: Does your OC behave differently around different people, if so with whom and how?She behaves extremely differently around different people, very affectionate with some while very cold with others, seemingly at random, but once she chooses how to interact with someone she doesn't change it 4: Would your OC want to involve themselves in humanitarian work ? If yes, then for what? If not, then why not?Yes she would involve herself in humanitarian work, to blend in and to score social points with communities as being a good person 5: How would your OC generally react to someone being verbally abusive towards them for no apparent reason? She would remain silent and likely ignore the person, if it seemed more personal, she would likely consider this person a threat that must be removed before they can do any damage 6: Does your OC have a realistic image of their own intelligence? She has never much thought about it 7: Does your OC have any irrational phobias?Yes, the sight of blood, the sound of thunder, and the sound of metal pounding pavement all send her into a teary terrified panic 8: How is/was your OC’s relationship with their parents?Very bad, she flips from holding them in high esteem and condemning them as monsters 9: Does your OC feel a pressure to achieve or are they content and calm with doing what they can at the moment?Great pressure to achieve enough status for social security, achieve affection from select others 10: Does your OC guard their emotions by being tough? If not how would they? No, she guards her emotions behind a contrived personality that she's fabricated to conceal her true emotions 11: How would your OC react to hearing they’re adopted? She would likely be indifferent 12: What is one of the most primary things your OC feels that is missing from their life? She always feels that she is missing security and safety, for her and the person she obsesses over 13: What kind of situations does your OC avoid the most?Large crowds 14: If your OC gets into a fight with their best friend, would they wait for their friend to make up with them, or would they try to make up with their friend? She would try to make up first 15: Does your OC consider themselves a good person? She flips back and forth, seeing herself as altruistic and wonderful and then as disgusting and monstrous 16: Is your OC good at giving others validation of their feelings and making them feel understood?Yes, she has very good verbal communication skills 17: Does your OC suffer of any mental health issues?Yes, she is severely psychotic and frequently loses grip with reality, suffers extreme delusion, is highly obsessive, is very controlling, and has bouts of extreme rage when certain buttons are pushed 18: What kind of intrapersonal values does your OC have? (values about their self, what makes them feel like a valid person)Her values frequently shift, but they are most closely related to feeling as if she has to add value to herself through others validation to cancel out the things in herself she condemns 19: What boosts your OC’s confidence the most?Compliments from people she genuinely feels affection for, as well as people she genuinely feels respect for, even if she doesn't care for them 20: Does your OC hurt others often unintentionally? If yes, how?She tries hardest to avoid doing this to her social circle, but has no problem doing this to anyone outside of it. Ignoring, cruelty, and coldness are for others, while smothering and destructive levels of clingyness and attention can hurt those she cares most about 21: Does your OC hurt others often intentionally? If yes, how?^ 22: How does your OC usually show affection? Are they openly romantic or more restricted with their affectionate emotions?Kind words, touching, body language, gifts, following people around, spying, stalking, invading personal space, she is very open and doesn't care who sees it 23: Does your OC tend to hide something about their personality/essence when meeting new people? If yes, what?Yes, she is always in a deep state of fear for others realizing that she is almost always putting up an act of normalcy 24: How would your OC react if they got humiliated by someone in a group of people? The level of transgression is linked to the response, but if she felt "defiled" in some way, she would react with extreme violence, if it was a simple insult, she likely would not care 25: How would your OC process the grief caused by the death of a loved one?Not very well, she'd likely deny the fact that they were gone for a long time, and then long to find them again to be with them, and being unable to find them anywhere would cause her extreme denial and cause her to look harder to shield herself and continue to deny, she would have a very difficult time letting go 26: What is the most intense thing your OC has been battling with? She can't clean her house worth a damn 27: Does your OC practise any kind of escapism? If yes, what kind? She escapes by reading and fishing 28: How would your OC react if a bully stole their lunch money in high school? She'd use it as an opportunity to get others to fight for her and increase her social value 29: How does your OC behave on the face of a conflict?Pragmatic and strategic, forwards thinking 30: What makes your OC defensive quickest? Her lover showing interest in other women causes her to instantly denounce them as a whore and begin plotting to murder them
  23. It sounds pretty straightforward and believable enough. This character's edge would probably be best sharpened by how he reacts in the context of once being part of the empire. 1) How does he feel about his life so far? 2) Does he know or care about his origins? 3) Does he actually hate the empire or does he feel indifferent? 4) How does he feel about Eorzea? Does he look down on them? 5) What effect did the empire's propaganda have on him? Little things like that in conversations will take a character like this a very long way
