1.0? Like FFXIV 1.0? This happened 6 years ago, on the same world... It's nothing alike to what happened on that World #1 where the WoD seem to come from. World #1 was threatened by Darkness like every other world, but the warriors of light of that world (who turned into the WoD and came to our world after) beat the Darkness for good and so totally that they created an imbalance of Light (which is a bit unclear on what it does and implies...). 1.0 was just about what the agents of Darkness (Ascians/Paragons) always try to do: bring chaos and darkness through Calamities. The 1.0 WoL got expelled to the future by Louisoix just before the crash of Dalamud, and the memories of them the people retained got blurry and vague. If you play a legacy character, they eventually recognize you, and if not, you are someone else, a new WoL. If you meant by 1.0 the world #1, then yes, most worlds seem to be exist in parallel dimensions (a bit like in FFIX), and tied to their star. Which incidentally brings us to the stars themselves which seem to be quite central to that whole aether deal when Y'Shtola speaks about our own in the Alexander series (the primal consuming so much aether that it doesn't even threaten the planet, but the star itself).

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Valence replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I haven't found A12 to be especially harder than the other ones (unlike A4 and A8 were compared to their respective series).. Most of the PuG groups I ran leviathan ex with used to just not bother with the stun (knowing the unstability of PuGs), and outright used the LB on him every time. Works like a charm like that at least, even if a bit of an overkill. -
So after that poor fellow slipped and was left hanging there last time, now he seems to have gotten into an even more dire situation...

I have never been too much fond of willingly trying to tie all the FF worlds to FFXIV, but with that FFXI thingy and Lightning stuff... Possibly. What interests me more is that with further precisions as you go on the 3.4 MSQ, they start to give you more specific numbers. 13 worlds, 7 consumed by darkness, 6 remaining. The 13th was the first consumed and turned into the Void. The 1th is the one where the WoLs won in totality and absolutely against Darkness but did the mistake not to care about balance (still unclear on the exact shenanigans on that... seems convuluted/stretched to me). It seems however that this world is not yet lost as Minfillia/Hydaelyn's voice goes there to take care of the thing, along with the WoLs (turned into WoDs) from that world. Now then, which number is Eorzea's world?
-
From the lore we currently know, Voidsent are born in the Void from our dreams and nightmares, and given form there from the aether that constantly seeps from its travel between our realm and the aetherial sea. Unukalhai, if you talk to him after completing the 3.3 Warring Triad quest line, states that there's worlds other than Hydaelyn, and that he came from one where use of eikon-harnessing technology resulted in the world being effectively destroyed. So, this is just further confirmation of that. Yoshida always said that there were lore reasons to justify the crossover events. This is just more hinting that the lore rabbit hole goes a lot deeper than we'd expected. This is true. Just more facts yes. I'm only adding that for confirmation. I seem to recall it created a lot of debate around the legitimacy of it as canon.

Here you go. Suen's Magitek Lair that also serves as a living
-
Also something else occurred to me. Remember Gilgamesh, and the samurai girl from the FF11 event? Both come from different worlds, and that revelation here would tend to confirm the existence of their worlds, anchoring them in the main story, and not just "OOC not very serious stories just here to accompany seasonal events". If anyone needed a confirmation of many more worlds than Hydaelyn herself, then this is probably it, or a huge step in that direction.
-
That got me a bit stunned for a while. I am not totally sure how far that revelation goes, what is true of it and how much of it does he tells us... And I have yet to finish the 3.4 MSQ. I just find that whole discussion with the WoDs to be most intriguing. Not only on what it implies on the presence of at least 13 worlds, one consumed by the Light, and one consumed by the Dark (the 13th which turned into the Void... then into what turned the one consumed by the Light? The aetherial plane? Something else?). What intrigues me most is that blatant revelation on the origin of the Void though, which seems to imply that the Void hasn't been always here, and wasn't born from the separation between Light and Dark (Hydaelyn and Zodiark), but is just the result of a world consumed by Darkness. Then if we think more about it, what does it implies? Void is devoid of aether. Does that mean Darkness is the enemy/antithesis of aether? Does that mean Light is aether incarnate? Does that mean Hydaelyn is truly the icon of Light, where Zodiark is the icon of Darkness, or is it something else if the WoDs are not lying? Also, since the WoDs are conspiring with Ascians, and knowing that Ascians seem to be pristine Voidsent, then what? Are the WoDs serving the Void (so, the Darkness)? I think this is the first patch with 3.2 with really deep revelations, that might be way deeper than we think initially.

Rp'rs going for certain wards w/apartments?
Valence replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Everyone is like "omg The Mist, Beach". I'm more like "omg The Beds, FOREST". Not complaining. -
As seen explained in the DRK storyline, Sidurgu emigrated to flee garleans invaders years ago, for example. Only to get slaughtered by the ishgardians that stumbled upon his family/clan.

I don't know about console users... Was mostly talking about my own experience on PC.

I tried to keep the client open before a patch got released since I was going to be away during patch, hoping it would refresh and start download. Result is: even for a whole night, client didn't refresh status. Maybe it does it for server status though... But it sure as hell doesn't for patch download release.

The actual Holy used by white mages is unaspected. However, it seems to lean, like, 100% on the Astral pole of aether. Maybe paladin stuff is similar? It's unaspected too right?

Julius Caesar was probably wrong then. The Gauls wore clothes and even were probably the only people at that time acually wearing pants. They also had a way better understanding on craftsmanship (gallic casks vs outdated greek/roman amphoras, etc), goldsmithing, and metallurgy than the romans. Also, to be more nitpicky, the term 'Gaul' was invented by Caesar himself to designate an actual huge group of different cultures and people, that all had their own way of doing things so...

Two questions! 1) What do we know of the Stone Torches exactly, other that they got assigned to keep the entrance to Copperbell Mines when the Heicatonchires got loose? What differentiates them from the Brass Blades, for example? Who do they obey to? What is their job? They are seldom mentionned in the story, or anywhere... 2) What do we know of the Green Rot, besides that there is no cure known to man (except the one improvised by the lala medicinal healer in Little Ala-Migho, that her greedy/lunatic father immediately wants to patent and sell)? I know that it literally transforms your innards into a foul green paste as implied by the name, but other than that..? Is it a magical disease? Or non magical? Any other info?

Sounds like our characters could mesh pretty well. Family (on the father side) can also be an option (or not), whatever works! -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

To be fair, that pull is rather annoying as a tank... in terms of "mechanics". The rogue doesn't move until he's done doing his stealth crap... and the mob on the far right (caster? archer? never paid enough attention to what he's doing exactly) doesn't move either. The only mob that moves is the one in the center... and the other two are spread too far apart to hit with -insert aoe threat move here-. So, depending on the decisions of the DPS (and possibly healer) in the group, that pull can get out of hand pretty quickly. Personally, what has seemed to work best for me thus far as a DRK, is unmend the rogue, then quick tab target to the middle and lunge, then drag the middle to the right and unleash. Eventually, assuming the DPS didn't go apeshit on it, the rogue joins the rest of the group and I'll unleash once or twice again and it's smooth sailing from there. Not calling you out by any means, but it really is simply a small matter of patience on that pull as everything is spread out so much that it's a bitch to get snap aggro on everything as a tank. Oh I know, I have seen enough of that run to be well aware of what tanks face. As a most gentlemanly DPS I always wait a bit that tanks get their aggro correctly before attacking myself. The others here seemed more or less to do it too. Just that tank was... not totally sure of themselves or just slacking since it's not in all runs that you get 2 good DPS and a really good heal pulling out a good amount of damage as well. He lost aggro with some other packs as well, the same way, and was totally panicked in the first boss. He wasn't terrible really. Just that his little mistakes costs us our lives a few times, and I played like a dick at the end. -
In-Game Achievement in Relation to a Character

To be fair the primals come back constantly. Presumably some of the time the regular adventurers, GCs, and mercenaries of Eorzea have to kill them. Titan has probably been killed a few dozen times, for example. Who's to say you weren't there for one of them? That's where interpretation comes in and I actually believe that's not totally true. The way it's stated has always been ambiguous at best in the story, and they seem to say that while beast tribes constantly prove to be a threat with their primals, they actually go to great lenghts to show you that it's not something that happens on a regular basis considering the humongous amount of crystals required just to summon them and keep them fed, and it seems pretty clear that the first time the WoL has to deal with primals, they weren't summoned for quite a few years since the last time was Titan and Leviathan for example, slayed by the company of heroes. So no, that's not something that seems to happen a lot. It's hard to tell though since the SMN class quests seem to be more lenient with that and tell a slightly different story. We also have to keep in mind that it has been only a bit more than 6 years since the disaster at Mor Dhona and primals weren't really there before that, all emprisoned into the allagan contraption beneath the lake (which also seems to point that even if every instance of a primal is different and unique, you can't sommon several at once? Which would make the number of possible invocations even lower). tl;dr: matter of interpretation, but I see that somewhere in between of the "summoned once and killed once by the WoL" and "summoned every week and killed by random people". The former is wrong by the lore, and the later sounds ridiculous since eorzea would have been depleted of all its population since long, considering that tempering usually gets rid of half of their enemies anyway. I also subscribe to the "less is more impressive when it happens" view on that, story wise. -

Last roulette in Hullbreaker for a change, it was me that turned kind of into a douche. Okay, not intentionally, pretty mild, but well. Tank had sometimes difficulties to hold aggro. I'm BLM-ing with a good MNK that was parsing similarly to myself, and a very good WhM that was not that far behind either with holyspamm. It went pretty smooth though, even if we took a few hits at times or just died a few, until we reached that pack of 3 mobs with the rogue dude that poisons you. Tank misses to aggro everything, and since we DPS well enough all hell gets loose. Healer gets twoshot by the rogue and the rest, and the tank dies just after. All the mobs turn on me as I'm in astral burst phase with AoE spells... Notice that I forgot to pop quelling strikes. Pop it out of habit even if I'm going into umbral. Pop up manawalls to survive a few seconds longer, teleport to the poor monk in a panic... And transfer him all aggro since quelling strikes + umbral no dps mode. Monk dies and I kill the last remaining mobs. Felt like a huge douchebag BLM after. -
In-Game Achievement in Relation to a Character

I actually like that FF totally separates the story and the rest. They establish that it's the WoL and that prevents me to see everyone claiming to be the ones that fell X or Y story archnemesis. Doing so means that they say outright they are the WoL or similar. Can't say in most cases "no I was just part of a random band of adventurers". -
In-Game Achievement in Relation to a Character
Valence replied to Renault Delumiere's topic in RP Discussion
I wouldn't personally. It's all about writing skills and believability and story and... what makes up roleplay. And I'm not really sure I want to get into RP when it comes to epeen character contests honestly. I guess I'm in RP circles where I don't have to worry too much about that. Especially since I'm rather hardcore into the mundane, average characters I want into my RP. No, I just think that having those OOC achievements behind can just paint a more consistent background. It gives weight to things. You know, a bit how you can perfectly RP you have a gun in your hands, but you don't have leveled machinist. Well, when you have, you actually show the gun in your hands. It adds no more credibility nor validates anything more. But it adds immersion. To me it's a bit more similar to what glamour is to RP. It's another form of glamour for more immersion. -

I come from Eve Online where actions and deeds are supposed to speak louder than words so... yes, to an extent for me. I have no problem at all acknowledging that someone with a character with high pvp rankings and spending a good amount of time here OOC can transform that easily into an IC thing. They worked their asses to get there. Same for a trading mogul on the market, even if it's harder to prove besides the depth of your pockets... That works for me as long as it doesn't directly conflicts with the lore or the storyline, and makes sense. Falling a raid thing, like Alexander, or whatever, is a Warrior of Light thing. Claiming having done so, even with your first server achievment or whatever, is a no go to me and just reeks of special snowflake. More generally though, if it doesn't contradict the lore, it always, always boils down as how you portray your character. I'm fine with a 50y old experienced and grizzled warrior with badass skills that will be played accordingly (and 3 dimensionally), but less with a teen pulling the same shit. Same with a trading mogul, or whatever, really. As usual, pull it well in 3 dimensions and you got it. If you can't, then your OOC achievements mean literally naugh. Now don't get me wrong. I spit on eve online mindset that tends to go to the extreme opposite though, which is as long as you don't do much ingame, you are nothing. That's lame. -
Private and lieutenant gear we already have doesn't have a DoW, DoM difference right?
