I wouldn't mind seeing some hairstyles based on classic FF characters (without being a complete rip off of them), like Vincent Valentine, or Zidane, or even Setzer... actually especially Setzer since he's who I based Ashren off of <.

This is some good info to have, I wasn't aware that Jobs altered stats on their own.

The companion it refers to is your Chocobo. They have job specific barding you can get for them, so you can dress your chocobo up like a Black Mage, or a Dragoon. -
My point was that if a 9 point disparity from race is not significant, a 15 point disparity from flex stats is going to be insignificant as well. At level 20 on the beta on my THM with normal crafted gear and empty materia sockets, 15 points of int would have boosted my magical attack stat which determines spell damage by only around 15%. By level 50 with decent gear and rank 4 materia, 15 points of int will be such a small difference you probably won't even notice it without a DPS meter to analyze the data (which I don't think will be available, anyhow). In my MMO experience, player skill makes up 90% of a player's capability anyhow. As far as cross class skills go, we'll have to see what those are, but every job gets cross class skills from one additional class outside their sub. For example, warrior sub is gladiator, but they get cross class skills from gladiator and pugilist. I wouldn't be surprised if scholar got conjurer and thaumaturge cross class skills, since white mage gets thaumaturge and arcanist cross class skills. Whoops, I missed summoner! Not sure what their cross class skill pool will be. Black mage gets arcanist and archer, so maybe they'll get the same? It matters to progression guilds or people who want to do content on Extreme, or get through Crystal Tower where Yoshida suggested having every point of DPS mattered when trying to clear the different phases. 15 points is the difference between whether I'd pick you or a White Mage fully spec'd into Mind, or even a Scholar that's just the same, if I were trying to do progression runs. This game doesn't really require twitch reflexes like a lot of other games, so while skill will matter, gear and build will play a large part as well.

NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Now I have no choice but to deal with my character's sub-par appearance and embarrassing name for at least a week of game time... (Btw, I take it changing race is not an option?) You'll be able to change race, gender, clan, appearance, birth day, patron, name, and starting city all when they let us remake our characters. Basically you'll get to completely remake your character as if you were making a brand new character while keeping all of your current levels. -
This might work if you built specifically to focus on mind and used cleric stance when you were playing arcanist or summoner. If cleric stance is disallowed for arcanist/summoners or if the arcanist/summoner class favors int over mind, it wouldn't work. Cleric stance isn't viable to switch int to mind for healing due to the % reduction in healing ability. While I know we aren't supposed to really discuss the data mined info, I can say from what I saw they don't get anything like a Scholar Stance or anything like that, and as far as doing a 15/15 split between Mind and Intelligence, that's what I meant when I said you could do this to be average (at best), while if you wanted to be optimized in a role you'd have to pick being good at one or the other, there's no way to play an Arcanist and be optimized in both because even if you try to do things to cover the disparity, you'll still be worse than someone who didn't bother and just spec'd for a single Job. As far as using Cleric Stance, it's possible for Scholar, but for Summoner they use THM as their sub.
-
I'm guessing the intent behind this is to make Jobs like what everyone has been calling them since 1.0, Talent Specs. You can play either one of them, but if you want to optimize you'll need to main one of them and spec all your points into that.

Yeah, I know on my end me and Kaln only got up to like level 15 or so during 1.0 so we have to wait to form the Blades until launch. At least you can create LSs at level 1. -
It sort of contradicts the other. I updated my previous post to include that and the explanation being given for the contradicting statements.

The wording of this implies that when allocating your attribute points if you spec them towards one particular Job, say for example dumping all your points into Intellect (or is it Intelligence?) for Summoner, you will be lacking in the other Job because you won't have the increased attributes that someone who actually spec'd for Scholar would have. He also says the following at the start of the video: However from what a few folks have said on the beta forums, he says this at the start then goes for a break and upon returning when the second question (#41) pops up he corrects himself saying he was mistaken and then answers it with the former response, stating that they will in fact share attributes. This is all coming from people on the beta forums, but it wasn't done so in a speculative way and there were numerous people agreeing on the information so... take it how you will. We won't know 100% for sure until launch, but I was already completely let down by So I won't get my hopes up.
-
So after I saw the two conflicting answers regarding sharing attributes between Scholar and Summoner it would appear that the latter answer, question number 41, is the correct answer. In other words Jobs are now officially specializations that you'll kind of be forced to spec towards. While nothing stops you from playing both a Scholar and a Summoner, the idea that whatever attributes you allocate will be the same on either Job means that you can either be good at one and mediocre (I won't say bad because that may not necessarily be true) in the other, or you can be more or less a little more than mediocre, we'll say average, at both. I find this this fairly disappointing, and not really just for Scholar and Summoner (since I'd probably never play Scholar except to level it), but for any other second Jobs we see in the future. In the event they add even more Jobs that use a different primary attribute, like a Gladiator Job that might require points in Mind or Intellect, our options while broadened will also be limited since your attribute distribution will determine which of the two Jobs you main. Anyways, this was a cautionary tale for all those people who plan on making Arcanists when they start and had hopes of playing both Scholar and Summoner, be careful where you spend your points.

This was cleared up on the beta forums a week or two ago, during P4 you won't be able to remake your character, and presumably not even during Early Access. The specific wording Hvirine used was "at launch." So while he may have meant to include Early Access into that, since it's technically launch for many of us, it's safe to assume you won't be able to change your name, race, or appearance until August 27th. -

So according to the beta forums the Unicorn mount is obtained from the White Mage questline, which means if you want it you have to level a healer. I'm not sure how I feel about that if it's true... On one hand, it means we might get cool mounts or other things from each job questline, but on the other hand if you actually want the Unicorn mount it means you're forced to level a class you may not want to play, and there's also the chance they don't give anything cool to the other jobs. Either way I'd only get it to have it because I'm OCD about collecting stuff in MMOs, I'd still use my Couerl mount or Chocobo... or Magitek. I nominate this instead of another kabuto helm. -
Server guidance for those new to the community

Everybody is not going to Gilgamesh for the same reasons. Can't we just respect people's reasons as adults to choose no matter what that reason is? I never mentioned anything about peoples reasons for going to Gilgamesh, so no need to get so defensive. I merely asked if it made the whole Legacy vs. Non-Legacy thing moot. -

So since Yoshida announced that paid world transfers will be available weeks after launch with no mention of Legacy restrictions what-so-ever, does that kind of make the whole Legacy vs. Non-Legacy argument kind of a moot point now? Assuming there are no restrictions this means Gilgamesh will have Legacy Redditors and what not by the end of the first month of service. I only bring this up because if that's the case there's no point in even designating it as the Non-Legacy server to begin with because it'll only old that spot for about a month before it not only has it's own new level 50s, but Legacy 50s as well. -

Maybe it's just me but I swear that looks like a Samurai headpiece. Maybe Samurai are going to be added in the game later? *bounces in chair with excitement* The samurai gear was already in the game, they had a helm called the Kabuki Helm or something like that which had a little bunny on it. Edit: My bad, Kabuto not Kabuki. Dragon Kabuto Usagi Kabuto There were different colored versions, but you get the idea. -
We're only a few hours away from the 8th Live Letter from the Producer, and hopefully we'll be getting some official word on when Beta Phase 4 and Early Access will start! In the meantime, here's a blog post that went up last night shortly after the test run for the Live Letter.

1.) A main character for me is a single character you play more than any, it's the character you level up, you get geared up, and you do most of the content on. 2.) Alts are any other character not my main. 3.) I don't personally feel that someone should be obligated or feel responsible for pairing up with me, if our characters form some kind of lasting bond I would expect that we're going to RP a lot more than just someone I know in passing, however I won't begrudge them if they have other priorities (both in game or out of game). 4.) I've actually found most people don't make lasting relationships on alts, mainly because they rarely ever stay logged in on them long enough to do so, so I can't say I've ever been in that kind of situation. 5.) There's a stereotype? I played WoW for almost a decade and I only ever played a single character, I never made an alt not even to try another class. I started during Vanilla WoW as an Orc Warlock, I ended in Cataclysm as an Orc Warlock. I prefer diverse character development you can't get if you split your time between too many characters, so I tend to prefer playing once character only. 6.) I guess see above, people with too many alts tend to have two dimension characters because they split their focus between too many concepts rather than sticking to one or two they like. 7.) Single, all the way. Especially in a game where I can play every class I want on a single character. 8.) I can't really answer this since I almost always just have one main, in WoW I had my Warlock, in TERA I had my Warrior, in SWTOR I had my Inquisitor, etc. It was never necessary for me to split my time.

So... what happens when everyone is the same level and all doing the same content and Legacy and Non-Legacy are no longer a thing, what do we call Gilgamesh then? The other server, server 2? -

Very well worded, I support this completely. -
The way I see it, the people on the RPC spent a lot of time and effort trying to organize the RP community so that the vast majority of us would all be on Balmung, so that like how people are saying Gilgamesh is the Reddit Server, people would say Balmung was the RP server. Two to three years of work put into this community to build a single strong group all localized in one place. Now all the sudden because of the paranoia and elitism perpetrated on the beta forums against 1.0 players by the new players a lot of the new folks are showing up and declaring they don't want to play with us and their splitting to go their own way. This is like a slap in the face to all the people who worked hard to try and get the community all onto Balmung to begin with. Sure, you can say that people would have gone off to join Gilgamesh anyways, or that there was already an RP community forming there from somewhere else, Reddit or otherwise, but it begs the question. Why did you join a website, hosted by and intended for a community that was localized on Balmung if you never had any intention of playing on Balmung, or with any of them to begin with? Some of you have said you wished you could play with us, if that were the case you'd be rolling on Balmung and not Gilgamesh, and I promise you if Yoshida lifted the server restrictions and allowed Legacies to transfer freely to any server you would all lose your shit over it.

I hate to break it to you, but it is pretty much a new game. Cataclysm was an expansion, it simply added content and re-vamped some old geography. A Realm Reborn is an entire re-design of the game's interface, graphics engine, environment, questing, battle system, features, and endgame content. It may not be a BRAND new game. But it's as close as you can possibly get. And if I'm allowed to play on a server without any pre-leveled characters on it in this new world? I'm going to. Sure can. Scenario 1: Say a legacy player has an item and wants to sell it. Now this item isn't for sale and since he's a Legacy player, and he has plenty of cash left over from 1.0. He can now charge whatever he'd like for this item before an actual economy is re-established simply because there are no other ones for sale. Scenario 2: Now let's say a non-legacy player puts up some crafting materials for sale. A legacy player sees they are fairly cheap, because again, there is no real economy in place yet. So he buys all of them, which sure might give the new player some profit. But what can he do then? Re-sell them all for MUCH more. Thus causing a problem. This particular issue happens even late game, but the key difference is late game there is an economy in place, so it has marginal success due to market influx. What is to stop me from coming over to Gilgamesh and leveling Miner or Botanist, getting crafting supplies and selling them for extraordinary amounts of money? Your example says that people with money will try to control the market by selling items for more money than people can actually afford or are willing to spend. In what world does that actually make sense? In what world does that actually work? If anything it will be the other way around, people who have little money will over charge items because they assume that there are higher level players that can afford them. This same thing will happen on Gilgamesh too, people will grind gathering classes to sell materials for over inflated prices because they know there isn't any competition on the server.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is not a fresh new game, it is a three year old game being rebranded and resold with a different name. The fact that our servers and characters from 1.0 still exists proves this, the fact that the core mechanics have only barely changed also shows this. They changed the UI, tweaked the mechanics to make them enjoyable, but it's not a brand new game, it's just an expansion. This is no different than when World of Warcraft came out with the Cataclysm expansion to draw in more new subscribers.

So what you're saying is that you see Balmung as a speeding bus that won't stop for anyone and will mow you down without a second thought if you got in its way. That does give perspective. Also Resent, Noun: Bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly. Indignation, Noun: Anger or annoyance provoked by what is perceived as unfair treatment. Both of these kinda sound pretty spot on. Resentment is an ugly word, I know, but it doesn't make it any less accurate for this argument.
