I think the lot of you need to stop and ask yourself a few questions before posting anything else in this thread. Does getting married, same sex or otherwise, effect your ability to play this game? Does getting married, same sex or otherwise, through the game mechanics affect your ability to get married ICly? Do you NEED this mechanic in order to validate your coupling IC? Does a marriage in a game affect you in real life or have any impact on you outside of the game? Will the implementation of same sex marriage in a video game increase tolerance of gay rights globally or even nationally in any way? Do you think that making demands on a forum that SE does not read, or even one that they do, will get your point across adequately enough to make a change, or even facilitate a response from the developers? If you answered no to any of these questions, you should probably move on with your life because this topic has veered very far off course and only marginally has anything to do with FFXIV or its marriage system anymore.

I see you're profile says you're on Gilgamesh, you're aware we're a Balmung FC? I just want to make sure before proceeding with your application. Oh whoops meant to change that! My main character is going to be on Balmung with my alt on Gilgamesh Kaln commented on your application, if you could make the necessary changes I'll go ahead and take another look at it.

What is this I don't even I DON'T EVEN. Why the FUCK should I be accepting of someone else's irrational and unreasonable hatred? Why should I, a member of the oppressed population, be accepting of someone else's desire to oppress me? I don't know what the hell you're smoking but seriously, did you even read what you just wrote? Should I be tolerant of gay people being put to death in the Middle East because it's "their culture?" So now we're supposed to accept horrible bigotry and discrimination and evil acts simply because it's someone else's culture? No. HELL no. Seriously, pike off. By accepting their homophobia you're offering tacit approval of their homophobia. /thread

The Blades of Nald'thal are now open for recruitment and seeking new members. We're looking for people who are interested in getting into the darker themes of RP, playing characters who don't abide by the social norms when it comes to doing what is right, who are morally ambiguous. Whether you are experienced, inexperienced, old, or new to the game we welcome any interested players to our dark order of nefarious knights. What you can expect: Paramilitary organization Bi-weekly group meetings and organized RP Division based RP events where different sub-groups within the FC will have different types of events. Endgame and PvP content (we are currently looking for members interested in these elements to form in house raiding and pvp groups) In-depth character interactions and story driven RP within the FC. If you're interested let us know, we are eagerly looking for new members to broaden our group now that all preparations pre-game have been made!

Easy solution is easy in two steps: 1) Add wedding outfits as crafting recipes. 2) Let people RP their weddings however they wish. It's all-inclusive, cheaper than implementing game mechanics and since it's completely under the control of the players, nobody can accuse Squeenix of supporting those filthy homos. They're more than likely already going to have wedding costumes you can use, so you'll be able to RP your wedding all you want. I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing the wedding mechanic did was give you the option to change your name to match your spouse, and considering me and my wife are already doing that from the start it's not that big a deal for us.

There's also the chance, a very realistic one, of the game being utterly banned in Russia if gay marriage were allowed. Which, is an extreme shame? Is something Square-Enix cannot ignore as a company. And, I want to stress, I would -love- for gay marriage in FFXIV, to make many people happy. But I also understand that it's something that needs to be progressively implemented at a later date, when things are settled and risks are assessed. I know it's difficult for many to accept, but we're living in a better time than most for this. And this is why you've been asked to have patience. The world is changing, but you can't expect to get anywhere by trying to force it to flip all at once. I was actually just about to come edit my post to include the IP Block thing. Not just Russia, but the Middle East and parts of South East Asia would also very likely ban the game from being sold in their countries and in some regions it would force an 18+ rating because a lot of times same sex anything is considered sexual content for whatever ass backwards reason. It all depends on where they decide to market the game and the tolerance level of the community as a whole to decide whether or same sex marriage gets added, but as I said before don't get your hopes up.

The issue I see is that even here in the United States same sex marriage is still illegal in many areas, and in most of the other countries where this game is supported (UK, France, Germany, Japan) same-sex marriage is either illegal or considered widely unfavorable (looking at you France) by many of the voting population. Because of that, even if progressively it's seem like a good idea, it's still dangerous territory and while many people may hail a company for outward and open thinking (and many people will flame them for it), there are few people who will flame a company for playing it safe. Sure there will be people in the LGBT community who are upset by this, but there will be many more who just don't give two shakes about it and wouldn't probably use the mechanic even if it was available in the game. Final Fantasy XIV already failed once, and because of that I think they are somewhat terrified of making any decisions that could in any way jeopardize the sales of their game. It's not discrimination, especially when, like I said, it's not even legal in most places this game is sold. In either case I honestly think this thread should be locked or something, it's quickly approaching the danger zone.

Also I'm not horrible fond of the Miqo'te hair, but it was the only one that looked kind of wild beyond the braids, everything else looks too posh.

The character idea I have could easily work for either Hyur or Miqo'te, so I would only need to change a few details to fit if I decided to go with a Hyur. As a Miqo'te he was refused a tribal name because of his appearance and his tribe trying to put as much distance between him and them as they could, he was eventually abandoned and then adopted which is where the name Ashren came from. Snow isn't his actual last name, but a nickname of sorts and could be used interchangeably with Ashren. The issue of course that I'm having is I really like both looks, but I'm the type of person that hates having alts because I prefer to just do as much possible on one character, and expand my main in RP with more connections and more meaningful RP, so I'd rather pick one or the other than use both as a main and alt. Ashren is supposed to be severely pale (he's a albino in fact) and severely scarred, though none of the Miqo'te faces really have a lot of scars, the Hyur one did however. Neither one of them can really be... albino pale, so neither one of them really wins as far as that goes, but one thing I did notice was that the Hyur eye coloring works better for him being partially blind in one eye, for the Miqo'te it just looks like he has mismatched eye colors.

My room mate has the Garlond goggles on his Lalafell with the shaved head, makes him look like a mini Riddick.
-
I REFUSE!
-
The Hyur face I picked only had a little face fuzz, so he has a small goatee.
-
Wow this is pretty neck in neck, I appreciate all the feedback guys. It seems the group as a whole is just as conflicted as I am!
-
Ashren has this whole tragic history going on right now of being an orphaned Sunseeker due to being a creepy albino which his tribe believed was an ill-omen. If I made him a Hyur I could just remove the whole orphaned thing from his history and keep most of the rest with a few tweaks. The appearance and personality, and some of his character flaws, are partially based on Setzer from FFVI, so I'm kind of leaning towards Hyur a little more as well just because of that. Plus the crazy Yoshida Hairstyle looks pretty good with the helm options available in the benchmark.

Same sex marriage is a hot topic globally and one that is incredibly controversial. We may be very progressive here in the United States, but even here people are incredibly intolerant and bigoted. As already mentioned above same sex marriage is out right illegal in any part of Japan, and for a country that still uses the same laws they had back when Tokyo was called Edo regarding nudity, I don't see this changing anytime soon. Speaking as someone who has dual citizenship in two very different countries (France and the US) I can say that even some countries that are considered to be fairly modern and you would expect would be accepting of same sex marriage are not. France recently (relatively) passed a law for same sex marriage, and because of that there were riots and a lot of the population demanding this be changed, far more than actually voted FOR the change. Many people felt the decision was made because the politicians were being overly influenced by foreign governments or other organizations and felt they had no choice but to pass it, however the majority of people in France are against same sex marriage. And given Paris is the city of love and what not, you'd think they'd be even more progressive than the US. Bioware and Trion are two companies that are located here in the US (I think Trion is in the US anyways, correct me if I'm wrong) so they don't have to worry about cultural and political pressures since here it's more or less okay to be LGBT, for a company that is located in a country where it is illegal they'll feel a great deal more pressure for it. With all that being said, maybe it will happen, though for now I hate to say it, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Anything zombie or ghost related and I'm in.

So I was playing around with the benchmark again trying to remake my character using the different races when I came up with a Midlander that I really like. Now I'm stuck between trying to decide if I want to rewrite my character a bit and make him into a Hyur, or just leave him as a Miqo'te. I'm going to post my screenshots and I'd like some input on what people think, because I really am stuck on this decision.

I would like to clarify that Legacy characters will not be able to transfer to non-legacy server until months after release. It has been explicitly stated by the developers that Legacy cannot move to non-legacy when the transfer system goes live 2-3 weeks after launch. Actually this isn't quite true. No one has given any clear indication whether or not Legacy can or cannot use this service to transfer from their server to a Non-Legacy server. The only thing that has been said was:

While I'm not from Canada, there are a few people in my FC that are from Canada. One from Vancouver and the other lives somewhere near Montreal.

If playing with veteran characters is not a concern of yours I would suggest Balmung. While Gilgamesh has a strong and growing community, Balmung has been established as the RP server for far longer and because of that it is more likely to have a larger community both at launch and after. If you are concerned about playing with characters who have been around for 1 or 2 years then I'd suggest you try out Gilgamesh and see if it fits. There are a few other servers as well that will not be as populated as these but will still have RP on them, I think they were Behemoth and Leviathan. Ultimately I suggest you figure out what your priorities are when you get in game and base your decision on that.

Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion
Havoc Snow replied to Eve Malusion's topic in FFXIV Discussion
If memory serves, that is the same armor as will be displayed in creation when you set it to showing you in "Job" gear, so if it's just to see the gear in the intro cinematic you can do that without having to leave character creation. Ah, i didnt remember the job gear option being selectable during hte last beta phase i checked out so wasnt sure, that'll be handy then, thanks for the response Ah for our Chocobo, i see, I saw we will have bardings and such for them, thats a nice touch. I never made it far enough to have a Chocobo companion of my own in 1.0 . Cant wait :chocobo: The was a lot of stuff regarding the Chocobo Companion that wasn't implemented yet, for example we got access to every stance because they didn't have the Companion skill tree setup yet. Once the game launches, or possibly even in B4, you'll have to spec your Chocobo a certain way, determining whether it will be DPS, Tank, or Healer, and you'll get to customize different traits about it, give it new spells, etc. I'm not sure how the class barding will work (possibly a reward for unlocking a class) but there has been concept art for it since last year. -
That's what bugs me about the current character customization. Certain facial features and tattoos are locked to certain face types. Is there some sort of limitation in the engine that makes more customizable faces difficult to implement? :? The meshes for each individual face are different, so it's not as simple as just clicking a box that says all beards can be worn on all faces. They'd actually have to go through and add every beard and what not individually to every face to make sure there wasn't any clipping or size issues, otherwise you'd have beards have phased into your face or just too small and didn't fit right. Sure, they could do it, but it would take a great deal more time for them to implement because they'd have to do it for EVERYTHING. It's a lot easier to just come up with a small number of unique features for each face, plus I recall them saying there was an issue with PS3 limitations that couldn't handle too many options in the character creator.
