  1. Ashren smells like a man! and probably different types of potions and grave dirt.
  2. I'm curious whether it will or not; this video is made for use in Japanese storefronts. It's possible, but I'm also pretty certain that none of the narration is actually anything we don't already know. It was also released on the JP blow however and so far we've got a translated version of everything posted on their side so far as I can remember. It explains a LOT of stuff about FFXIV that would be very valuable for new players (which is their target audience) so I could definitely see them releasing a version for the other language communities, even if only subtitled. Also just to add some stuff that was also in the blog post:
  3. Just saw this come up on reddit and was about to post it myself. 10:35 has the new Chocobo barding and the new mounts. Waiting for a subtitled/translated version to come out.
  4. I just wanted to toss in a request of my own, since your art is totally fantastic! Here's the link for Ashren's character reference: Link and here's some inspiration!: Link
  5. I'm curious however, if Gilgamesh has Bradamante now, what happened to Hildibrand? Dun dun dun! Maybe Hildibrand was really Gilgamesh the whole time! Or the version of Bradamante Gilgamesh has is a forgery (ala Exalipoor).
  6. Ashren's item(s) would probably be a mortar and pestle.
  7. Been using this site since Beta 2, we even use his plugins on our guild page.
  8. Nope, nothing to do with the server! I came across an image of what Gilgamesh will apparently look like in FFXIV (his actual render, not concept art) and I just wanted to share it with the community since Gilgamesh is awesome and anyone who doesn't love him is fundamentally wrong. Also note the halberd he's wielding, look familiar? Sorry if this is old news, I haven't seen it before so it was new to me, thought it was probably new to others as well!
  9. Figured I'd throw my hat in here as well in case I want to have art done (or if someone wants to do some pro bono for me). Name: Ashren Snow Race: Hyur Clan: Midlander Hairstyle: Shaggy, unkempt, white Complexion: Incredibly pale, albino Eyes: Steely gaze, partially blind in right eye, left eye is a light pink color (albino) Distinguishing features: Legacy mark between his shoulder blades, 90% of his body is covered in scars of varying sizes and shapes, prominent scar on his lip, over his right eye, and across the bridge of his nose, tattoo of Nald'thal's symbol on his right wrist Physique: Muscular, tall Clothing: Most likely dressed in the Hyur racial clothing, or the level 50 Alchemist outfit with garlond goggles A more detailed description of him as well as a closeup of his face can be found in his wiki article in my signature. I based his appearance somewhat on Setzer Gabbiani, so any artwork of him could be used as a reference as well.
  10. Came across this on reddit and figured I'd post it here since there was a lot of debate about how Arcanists stats would work.
  11. Hvinire made a post a few days ago verifying that August 15th would be the date we could start actually downloading the game files, though I think it's kind of BS personally they only give us 1 or 2 days to download 20gb of files, not all of us have the fastest connection in the world.
  12. What about them makes them seem like wusses? The Keepers I suppose I could see to some degree since they'd primarily just be used for breeding stock since they're so rare (though apparently not rare enough to keep them from becoming adventurers) while the Seekers seem more like Lions. One Seeker male gets breeding privileges, and if any other Seeker wants the right to breed they have to beat him in combat. Nothing about that seems wuss-like to me. As far as evolution goes, I think we can pretty much throw that out the window. The fact that the races can crossbreed means there's no genetics in the game, races just sort of... exist, which means there's no chance they evolved from anything.
  13. I don't see why not. If they went the EQ2 route and had them hover across the ground like Fae/Arasai, it could work. They could make it a sort of racial sprint toggle, maybe with a glide ability so they can jump off things and glide down. Because then they'd need to start adding racial abilities for ever race, and I don't see that happening, plus they'd need to change the way physics work to incorporate the ability to glide and if they were completely unwilling to add a bit of forward momentum when you fall off a ledge, I don't see them adding gliding. This seems more likely that they'd be a new Beastmen Tribe given how antagonistic it would make them to not just the Miqo'te, and the only city they could live in any style of harmony with would be Gridania.
  14. The best solution to this is having armor that is race-gender specific in model. TERA does this and it injects a fantastic degree of variety into the game. If a crap-tastic now-f2p MMO can do it, then Squeenix should be able to, as well! They should be able to, but they won't. You're talking about a dev team that won't even implement unique racial animations for each weapon/class, even though this was something we had back in FFXI. Or, I suppose I shouldn't say they won't, but that it is very unlikely that they will.
  15. You should totally make an RP LS called the Radical Dreamers <.<
  16. I'd personally love a race that was totally different fro your typical humanoid character, something like an actual Beastman turned native or whatever. The problem I see, and one hopefully SE is willing to tackle, is that every race currently uses the same armor meshes just morphed to fit their body type. This isn't difficult at all because they all still use the same armor, it doesn't actually require them to make one armor for an Elezen and another for a Roegardyn for example, they just design them in a way that can be stretched to fit different body morphs. In the event of a race that really breaks the human mold, they'd need to actually design two sets of armor from then on, and remake every previous armor in the game up to the point that race is implemented. For example if they had digitgrade legs, they'd have to remake every boot in the game, and possibly all the pants as well to actually fit the races different leg structure, otherwise the only time you'll notice they have different legs is when you take those armor slots off. If they had a face that was drastically inhuman (like a beak, a snout, or whatever) then they'd need to go back and make sure every closed face helmet, mask, or any other head slot also stretched to fit their unique head shape while not looking totally stupid.

  18. To my knowledge it's not a class that's appeared before in a FF game, but Technomancer, or Machine Mage I guess would be more accurate with naming conventions. Gear Mage maybe? I don't know! A Mage class that uses a combination of magic and magitek. Or Necromancer.
  19. I smell a Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross fan. Story doesn't look too bad so far, keep up the good work.
  20. I highly doubt they'd ever add a winged race since the wings would be absolutely useless and would only cause mass amounts or rage among the community.
  21. The Miqo'te aren't like... Druidic or anything, not necessarily at one with the elements or what have you, not as a culture anyways. They enjoy the hunt, and seem to as a race prefer living in the wild like animals do. So the main difference I suppose could be that the Miqo'te are the more feral side of nature and the Viera could be the more gentle side of nature, though that kind of defeats the comments of people saying they want them to be the badass side of nature. Well that depends on your definition of badass. Passionate Sentinels of nature sure sounds badass to me! (They could be super cruel to any careless litterer.) (Ripping out the still beating heart of a BP executive.) But it would also drastically limit their ability to be used as a playable race without just saying "some of them don't care as much so they go out and become adventurers." And yet we have plenty of city-state hating Duskwights joining Grand Companies. Good gracious it's 5:40am I need to sleep. Touche.

The idea of them being stoic woodland sentinels is cool and all, but the idea makes them sound more like a tribe of Beastmen that might be defending their ancient forest from the outside world rather than a player race.
  23. Oh the Wildwood are definitely your standard package elves. The Duskwight a bit less so, though. I can see parallels but I don't see them as being "standard package elves" at all. You could say that the Duskwight are "standard package drow" because they live in caves or underground, have skin tones that vary from pale gray to black, and are usually depicted as villains in the story. As far as I can tell the Elezen have normal lifespans, they don't have any particular knack for magic, only the Elezen in Gridania fit the role of woodland protector while the Ishgard Elezen are more like the typical Humans in Tolkien type settings, they aren't fair skinned blonde haired, and while they are prideful and what not it's more of what you'd expect from many Human characters, where as Elves typically have a great sense of superiority and less a sense of just being smug.
  24. They could add Gnomes which is the traditional name for Dwarves, especially in Square-Enix games (See the Mana series), though I don't think I see that happening. Dwarves are far more Tolkien than Eorzea seems to be trying to be. The closest connection to traditional high fantasy (D&D, Middle Earth, etc) are the Elezen, but even they aren't a lot like typical Elves aside from their pointy ears, and the fact that some of them use bows. 25. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 Even though it's titled "Linkshells" many of them are Free Companies, or a combination of Free Companies and Linkshells.
