balmung Looking for 'Possible' love interest for character

Aww, I'm sorry. Here, I know what'll cheer you up -
Wow. That's bs. Don't have anything else to add, just... dang.

Theoretically, I think 15-ish USD for a headshot.

I'd say it depends on where you're making your entrance. If it's in a crowded tavern and everyone's talking with everyone, then it's usually safe to assume that you're welcome to go strike up conversation IC. If someone seems wrapped up in RPing with each other and you're not entirely sure if they'd prefer privacy, send a tell first.

Thank you! Best race Hmm, have you tried other races? :3 Why would I, there's Elezen!

Is there a mininum theshold for changing details...
Knislinge replied to Morningstar1337's topic in RP Discussion
Well, I think it depends on the impact it'll have on other people's RP. If you're changing, say, a pretty big aspect of your character's backstory that hasn't come into play IC yet, I wouldn't call it retconning, because no one you RP with would be impacted by the change. And, of course, if you point out to people that you're still hammering things out and that you might want to change some stuff in the future, I'm sure they'll be understanding and prepared for potential retcons and changes-of-mind. It seems to be a case-by-case judgement call sort of thing. -
discussion Going Lalafell, distinct decline in RP?
Knislinge replied to Lamiaris's topic in RP Discussion
I'm not offended, I simply think that way of thinking is wrong. People aren't perfect and you've every right to do things your own way. Likewise, I'm going to point out when I think an attitude does nobody any good whatsoever. It's interesting to see that kind of "racial profiling" in a game though. I mean, it can create some pretty interesting situations. I don't know much about TES lore, but I guess they're often seen as criminals or villains? In such cases where natural suspicion is warranted by the lore, I can kinda understand the player's actions. It's when the player has an unreasonable OOC bias and it ruins both their play and the play of others that I can't excuse them. I can forgive a lot, but I want others to judge me on a basis of my play first and foremost, rather than concept, assumption or precedent. Well, in The Elder Scrolls lore there's a lot of in-universe racism and prejudice between the races, which is all fine and good, but it bled a lot into OOC I felt. It's even sillier here - the lalafel NPCs you meet are pretty varied characters! Hell, I'd say that they're more commonly foul-mouthed 'edgy' little adults than a lot of the other races. (Or it just stands out more when they are, with their appearances and all. Also very likely). And... I don't think the "prove me wrong" arguement is very fair at all. As much as we like to put things neatly into boxes, there's never 'that one race' in RP - where literally everyone is just terrible. People always deserve the benefit of the doubt, or at least a few emotes worth of attention, before you know whether or not you think you'll mesh. I've seen the same arguement used against noble RP. "I've never seen it done well, but you're welcome to try and prove me wrong". Well... one person's bad experiences is not the responsibility of every noble (or in this case, lalafel). It's something everyone has to remind themselves of once in a while, but it is important to give people a chance. Otherwise, we'll all end up sitting around with Hyur or Miqo'te, because "well no one wanted to RP with any other race I rolled". And how boring would that be? -
discussion Going Lalafell, distinct decline in RP?
Knislinge replied to Lamiaris's topic in RP Discussion
Aw man, I feel for you. I played Altmer in TESO, it was a huge struggle to not be seen as a designated villain - I had a particularly memorable incident where my priestess character was talking politely to an (also Altmer) military officer at a market, and like three different Khajiit guards came up and went "Not making any trouble are you?!" It ended up being this kind of embarrassing scene with several guards because two dang elves were having tea and conversation. My suggestion would be to just keep trying - eventually you'll run into people who are actually decent, and the ones who go "omg no lalafels pls" or ignore you, honestly, probably aren't worth RPing with in the first place. -
Best race

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Knislinge replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I actually have this problem too, with a really simple issue: my character's height. In RP, he's 5'9''. But the shortest his preset can be in-game is 6'6'', so his in-game model is 6'6''. This means he's about a head shorter than his own in-game model. This is a relatively small detail... until you have people emoting flavour that they're "looking up at the tall Au Ra" or "craning to see him" and so forth, when actually he'd be about the same height as them. Suddenly I'm having to backtrack and whisper them OOC to correct them. There's such a variety of heights in-game, so I can't just emote him as "the short au ra" off the bat, either. On the grand scale of things, he's still pretty tall! He's taller than most midlander hyur. He's taller than the huge majority of miqo'te, and taller than every lalafell. He's still taller than the huge majority of auri women, too. He's just... shorter than his in-game model looks. It's a lot harder in in-game RP to just slip in details about his relative height compared to the scenery than it is in longform RP - especially when we already have a visual (his in-game model) that's contrary to what I'm emoting, leading to confusion. It feels awkward as hell to whisper people up front before the RP even really begins like "yo btw my character is a head shorter than he appears in-game" because while it is one of the first things their character would likely register about mine... by whispering like that, it feels like I'm placing it higher up the OOC hierarchy of facts than it should be. It's not something I necessarily need to "warn" people about before they talk to him. Like, if my character was an aggressive murderer, I might warn people OOC so they don't accidentally initiate a darker-themed RP than they expected by talking to him. His height isn't like that - it doesn't impact the type of RP I do on him; it's just a minor detail, story-wise, that happens to be visually obvious to other characters in a way it isn't to their players. It feels like by telling people before it's relevant, I'm shoving it in their face unnecessarily and making it out to be a bigger deal than it is; but by leaving it until they already made a mistake, it feels like I'm being obnoxious and contrary... I'd suggest simply having fun writing weird description-emotes? Like, "the remarkably average-height Au Ra says the thing", or just "the Miqo'te doesn't have to look far, as the two are almost the same height". You get to come up with weird ways of describing his height, and it draws attention to it as well. So people might catch on easier, both IC and OOC? -

[6-16-2016] Sale of Housing Advertisements Temporarily Suspended
Knislinge replied to Nero's topic in Forum Announcements
I suppose that's pretty good news for those who have been frustrated with the people buying up new lots and selling them for a 70 million gil profit... This might be a dumb question, though, but... then how does one go about getting a house? I was under the impression that when players/fcs moved to a bigger lot, they'd sell the old one to other players. Is one supposed to be very lucky when checking listings, then? -
Aw, dang, I'm playing a Wildwood.

Oh, hey there. I am Knislinge, you may recognize me from - well, nowhere. I'm still new around these parts. I've managed to hit up a few RP events so far and quite enjoyed myself, but one thing I've been really missing is a bit of an OOC 'network', so to speak; somewhere to lurk and see what's going on and what people are up to ingame. Are there such things as linkshells primarily for OOC chat and RP planning? I haven't had much luck searching so far, though again, I'm new to the game and the site, so there might be something obvious I've overlooked. My character is a young Elezen and aspiring healer, who, youthful stupidity aside, would rather be sitting inside reading a book than out adventuring. Characters in previous MMOs include airheaded bureaucrats and paranoid space-wizards who care more for potted plants than people. So, er, I prefer more down-to-earth stuff to super combat-y adventure RP. So, uh... yeah. General OOC linkshells? Places to find quiet nerd RP?

Hey, there! I'm new around these parts, but so far, I'm really enjoying the game, and the RP community looks very inviting, too. (I'm on Balmung, which has been a lovely experience so far). I've been into RP for a while, especially if I can play elves. So as you may guess, I've rolled me an Elezen - a big nerdy aspiring healer who thinks he can get away with wearing big sweaters and nice dress shoes at the same time. Not sure what else to say here. I'm from Denmark, so time-zones might be a bit wonky, though I don't usually have a problem staying up late. I draw stuff too, my favourite subject also being elves - here's a picture I drew of my character a few days ago. If I may finish with a question; are there any RP conventions a newbie would be unaware of in this game/community? Set-in-stone fanon lore? Best time of day to find random RP? RPing in /party being preferable to RPing in /s or /em? Looking forward to getting to know you all!
