Can I just say how happy I am to see I'm not the oldest one around for once?! I'm 31, work from home part time as a legal transcriptionist and have a 4 year old son. He enjoys watching me play, even if it's just running round and finding anything vaguely dragon-shaped haha. I've been playing video games for as long as I remember. One of the first games I ever played was the original Final Fantasy on NES. I spent a whole Christmas holiday holed up in my room trying to beat it. However, it wasn't until I was in my late teens that I started RPing. My then-boyfriend told me to play Baldur's Gate, which I loved, and I burned through games like Icewind Dale and Knights of the Old Republic until I found an RP community on a persistent server in Neverwinter Nights. I stayed there for a few years but got addicted to WoW in 2006 and played on an RP realm there until I moved to Guild Wars 2 last year. I never really got into the other Final Fantasy games, although I did try FFXI and FFXIV 1.0. I personally found them disappointing but I'm so pleased with the changes they've made in ARR. Can't wait for August!

I plan on playing Miqo'te but haven't found enough lore to satisfy me, so thanks to everyone who answered questions here. I also have a question: my Miqo'te's name starts with K and the naming conventions state that her tribe's totem would therefore be the Hipparion. Does anyone know what that is? I've looked around and can only gather it's a sort of horse, as the name is an extinct species of horse in our world.

I'm looking for a mentor. I've RPed in WoW for many years and GW2 in the past year, tending to free form rather than plot driven RP. I played FFXI and 1.0 for only about a week each so know very little about the lore. I'm a bit nervous but excited (nervicited!) to RP in ARR and could use help with lore, character creation and how people tend to RP here. I may have some questions about gameplay as well since this game seems such a different beast to other MMOs I've played. I'm in the beta and on Moogle, which I chose before I knew of the RPC. I will probably be on Balmung long term. I live in the UK so my time zone is GMT.

I voted Moogle because I'm still concerned about time zone differences and legacy economy and my boyfriend told me a lot of English people are going there. It's the server I rolled on for beta.

I'm female and mostly play as female but I do have a male in GW2 and it was interesting to see how differently he's treated. For example, he once backed down from an argument, preferring to take the high road, and was asked why he was giving up so easily. My assertive female character, however, has often been told to shut up and let it go. Hmmm.

Thanks for the reply. Will the time zone difference cause a problem for RPers? The reason I ask is because in GW2, our RP community is separated into NA on one server and EU on another. If I were to play on the NA server, prime time for me would be midday for most of them and I'd end up playing at 12 am or later if I wanted to hit NA prime time. Or will there be enough EU players/NA early birds on Balmung for it to not be an issue?

My name's Kat, I'm 31 and live in the UK. I've played MMOs for a long time; 7 years in World of Warcraft and the last year in Guild Wars 2 as well as dabbling a bit in TERA, Rift, LOTRO, etc. One of my friends has played FFXI since 2004 and tried (unsuccessfully) to get me to join him many times over the years. When XIV came out, I gave in and played with him but in the end decided it wasn't for me. However, I've played ARR beta the past couple weekends and, I have to say, I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to August. Because I'm a RPer first and foremost, I wanted to check out the ARR RP community and find information on the lore as I know next to nothing about the Final Fantasy world -- well, aside from what are chocobos and moogles haha. I created a Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te in beta so I think that'll be my first character. Please forgive me if this has already been answered but I see the unofficial RP server is Balmung; is this a NA server or does the NA/EU divide not exist in this game?
