It should go without saying, but be careful who you (and the Garlean character) choose to disclose that bit of information to. Brass Blades can be payed off, but some RP characters (like Jana) are more willing to enforce vigilante justice.

Wow, I got a lot of replies on my busy day, so I'm sorry for not responding sooner. The general vibe I'm getting is that OOC communication kinda failed and I got the wrong impression off of that, which is why I don't personally agree with your set-up for an RP tab, Aldotsk. I keep the RP LSes visible in mine as well, since they already don't get anywhere near as much activity as my OOC LS/FC. I've always valued them as tools to try and get people together to RP and to communicate OOC-ly once the RP has already begun, so I admit I'm a bit perplexed when people say they can't read them during a scene. I wouldn't want to be sending tells to 10 people during a big event like this anyway! Anyway, I'll keep being online during the week, and I'll pop in tonight too. Thanks for taking the time to address my fears!

At least I'm not the only one that felt that way. I'd like to take some time to calm down before I say anything else, though. Edit: I think I'm calm enough to put to words how I feel about the matter. I think some people went to the event and immediately left to be with their own contacts as soon as they could feasibly get out of it. I can't really blame anyone for that. But it feels like I - and apparently not just me - am just being pushed aside, since we're not already involved in whatever other stories the more popular characters have already gotten themselves wrapped up in. I'm not saying the "in" crowd has to ignore what they've got to handhold newer RPers, and I would never ask anyone to drop what they were doing just to RP with me. But maybe plots like tonight's are just too over-crowded to get any meaningful development for player characters that don't already have all these involved contacts to run off with afterwards, so maybe we should try to get in touch between event nights more (I've tried a bit, but haven't had luck) instead of having to find something else to do and get out of the way.

I'm kind of ticked off, honestly.

Jana hasn't really been introduced IC to the new crop of heroes, but I'll be around to send her zombie smashing tomorrow!

The only time I wanted a character to get killed off, she ended up retiring peacefully... My character in FFXIV doesn't have any enemies (due to lack of RP more than being such a lovable person). She is quite the cocky adventurer though, so it's feasible she could be killed by a number of things.

Part of it is that I try to keep my RP outfit parts All-Class, so I can switch what weapon I'm using IC on the fly without suddenly losing my pants. Concessions have to be made to use a uniform, I guess.

Oh, I see. I still use stuff labeled as "Flame Private" gear for my IC-"Uniform," though it's kind of a mix of different pieces. Might be worth looking into the singular set for Disciples of War.

No Flame Corporals... Good to know that there isn't any established canon for me to break with my character, even if adventurers probably wouldn't wear a uniform anyway!

I believe it was also mentioned that "Thief" won't be used because a "Thieve's Guild" would never be welcome in any of the city-states; this isn't the kind of setting where one would be.

It's really just taking putting a favorite celebrity's photo in your wallet a step further. As long as no one is playing off the wind-ups as having the real Thancred/Minfilia with them, unless their character is supposed to be a little off-kilter!

It's certainly a good resource, but for some entries (I looked up Byregot), all there is is what we're told about the divine in Character Creation. It just brings how little we're told about them to the surface.

Jana is sure the Twelve exist, but isn't very religious herself. She might mutter a quick "Help me, Twelve" in a life-threatening situation, the way we might say "Oh God" in real lie, but as long as there's no direct divine intervention in her life, she can't take prayer seriously.

I got a 12 on the litmus test. I've been thinking of changing my character a bit though... She could stand to stand out a little more. To answer the question in title of the thread, I think there are definitely some people who are leery of combat-based RP characters, largely because combat in RP can be difficult to enforce. I'm sure most everyone has run into SuperBatGoku characters by now.

Guess who's baaack! I'm not 100% sure how I'll play off Jana's absence from RP yet; probably as more training/learning. But I'd be very interested in getting her back into another RP event!
