Another thing you can do for easy access to the LS is to join a hunting party from the Party Finder; it's not guaranteed but there's usually at least 1 at any given hour. Find where the members are, teleport to the zone they're scouting in, and ask in Shout. You can even just ask in party, "Anyone here able to invite to LS?" and they'll either send one immediately or give your name to the LS, and someone will send you the invite!

Dr. Jana's Field Guide to ERPers for Everyday Folks Like Yourself
Jana replied to Jana's topic in RP Discussion
This got quite a few posts; I'm glad lots of people have so much to say and that things didn't get too heated! I don't really have much to add, but I will say that I've never really asked players their ages in-game because that, to me, feels creepy. I'll have to keep it in mind in the future. Thanks to you guys for keeping things civil! -
The Jana who exists in FFXIV may be a self-styled hero, but my concept of her was actually as a younger version of the Jana I played back in Tera. She was a villain of the "the ends always justify the means" variety. And while my intention with this version of the character was "mad scientist before learning mad science," Dr. Jana's personality traits that led her down her dark path are intact in Adventurer Jana. Whether or not she'll end up on that path remains to be seen. As for what she actually has done, Jana's pretty fond of looting dead cultists, Garleans, pirates, you name it. "Adventurer's Right," she calls it.

Here I am, making this thread for that discussion, to avoid derailing that other discussion any further! Doctor's Note: As has been discussed, any roleplayer could fall into that trap of "taking IC interactions as OOC intentions," ERPer or not! This isn't really intended to discuss that kind of thing, since I'm making this thread to stop derailing the one that is for that talk. This is also meant to be a very general kind of grouping; I'd like to spark a discussion and would love to read any input! The first kind of ERPer is "The RPer Who is Okay With ERPing." This is someone who is an average, normal RPer who is okay with writing out an erotic scene if their character should happen to end up in such a situation. This is also someone with a thought-out character, with their own goals and personalities, maybe even their own ongoing long-term plotlines! Treat this kind of person with the same respect you'd afford to any other RPer. Chances are these kinds of roleplayers are all around you already; you just haven't RPed with them in a situation where eroticism would come up. And if you do end up in such a situation but you don't want to ERP, most of these roleplayers will be perfectly okay with a "fade to black." Anyone who is not, or who tries to pressure you into roleplay you don't want to play out, is an Abusive Jerk. Next, I'll talk about "The ERPer." This is someone who roleplays with a character, often with the purpose of getting that character laid. This is not necessarily someone who doesn't want un-erotic roleplay, but it must be understood that a big, overarching story line isn't going to be their goal. This also isn't always someone who's looking to set their character up a long-term relationship with other characters, though it can be! If you run into this kind of roleplayer and aren't interested in what they're looking for, be firm but polite! Being rude to ERPers has led to the notion of "Non-ERPers are elitist jerks," which leads to further arguing and drama between what ends up as two divided camps. Jerks exist in every kind of roleplay, not exclusively to ERP or not! Then we have "The Person Who Wants to Cyber." This kind of player will often have a character without a real, role-played personality or background; the character is an avatar for the act. The easiest way to tell between someone who wants to ERP (remember, it stands for Erotic Role Play) and someone who wants to cyber is that there isn't a distinction made between player and character for the latter. This kind of person also often uses first and second-person pronouns ("I touch your butt" as opposed to "She touches his butt"). Again, if you're not interested in what this person is looking for, be firm and polite in your refusal. Don't feel too bad if they require blacklisting, since these aren't what one would normally categorize as role players, but it often doesn't need to be your first resort. After this, there's an assortment of unruly types, like Shout Catcallers, Emote Bad Touchers, and Unsolicited Whispering Creeps. These can all be classified as Abusive Jerks, so don't hesitate to blacklist these kinds of people if they prove troublesome. They won't want to roleplay with you normally anyway! Hopefully, I didn't overlook anything obvious with these sweeping generalizations, but feel free to point out anything I have!

I think there's a distinction to be made between RPers who are okay with ERPing, ERPers, and those just looking to cyber. But that's a discussion for another thread.

As someone who's never shied away from ERP (when it makes sense in-character), I've certainly dealt with the kind of E/RPer who gets emotionally attached OOC. It can be difficult at times, but I've gotten pretty good at figuring out who will react how by communicating a bit OOC before heading into those murky IC waters.

Storyline introducing SCANDAL to an event involving winnings

The one time Jana won, she earned 4K. I think she'll die of a heart attack this weekend before being able to compete... -

Does your character have any unfair Bias or Discrimination?
Jana replied to Kage's topic in Character Workshop
She has a high opinion of individuals like Kage. But like I said, broad strokes... :bouncy::blush::bouncy: I want to meet someone who'd call Kage a popoto. He still hasn't eaten one. (To his knowledge). He's eaten them but he didn't know that's what they were called. Jana would probably make a popoto gruel on an adventure and make a goofy remark about it while serving it, without outright calling him a "popoto person." "Haha, don't feel too bad eating it," or something like that. Now that I think about it, Jana's biases are largely based on her first impressions. Kage was part of her rescue party, after all. Even the fact that she isn't biased against men could be attributed to this, as the men she interacted with after leaving the shroud have all been serious types: Fellow gil-minded adventurers, soldiers, and mercenaries. If she'd met one of those that fancy themselves a playboy at first, she could have ended up a lot less trusting. -

Jana is definitely biased against Wildwood Elezen, being from the Shroud but not Gridania proper. She doesn't have any outright hatred for them like she does towards Garleans, but she finds them a stuffy bunch that is best avoided. She tends to paint in broad strokes. While she doesn't have actual negative feelings towards lalafell, them being little and it being hard to tell their genders at times leads to Jana generalizing them as "funny little popoto people," certainly an unfair bias, if not outright racist! As a career adventurer, anyone that isn't part of the welcomed races (beastmen, goblins, etc.) are ignored at best, targets at worst, with the exception of the Kobolds ("If they can build such awesome machines, they can't be as barbaric as the rest!"). Ironically enough, her opinion on them only improved after participating in a campaign to defeat their primal, Titan... And barring exceptional circumstances, Garleans are "capture on sight, kill if that fails." She hasn't really run into any tribal Miqo'te of the Sun, but I feel like she might be biased against them too. Anyone that elevates a single breeding male to such a lofty status and disregards the rest can't be right in the head. (Nevermind that Nunh doesn't often mean Leader, but Jana wouldn't know that!) Oddly enough, Jana both likes only women and doesn't have any biases against men in general. -
Have you already completed your transfer to Balmung? If not, there's a chance that "Fate Testarossa" will be taken and you'll have to name-change anyway. And if you wanted to, you could always double-check and even ask if someone would be willing to make a character with that name so you could get a free name change. Don't feel like you have to change your character's appearance or anything like that in order to fit in; you're free to do whatever you want. But the name directly lifted from an anime character's is likely where people are drawing the line.

That was my Tera character, whom I often have to remind myself I'm not playing in FFXIV...

It's nothing like that; BRD is one of my main endgame classes and I know it can output great DPS. It's more that BRD should be more supportive to allow something like Ranger or Musketeer to fill the ranged damage role. BRD used to require CNJ, from what I recall, so it's clear that the devs meant for it to be more supportive than it is right now. ...Though with only 4 players, there isn't really room for a support class. I think most would rather have more DPS. But that's a discussion for another thread.
-
Oh, neat. My character's in the Free Brigade; I'll have to stop by and link up!
-
I want my proper ranged DPS classes too, let BRDs handle support so I can be shooty. :< But speaking of shooty classes, I just got an idea for a question.
-
My character is a Summoner (it is, in fact, her only "job," as opposed to "class"), and I have her only whip out the chicken nugget when her life is in danger AND it looks like no one will be around for it. She's already almost died without resorting to it once. I don't think there's a problem with wanting to RP as a job whose lore makes you out to be a special snowflake if you keep it on the down-low and don't try to make a claim of being the only adventurer with that job, like being a Dragoon versus being the Azure Dragoon.

I don't know why you were worried before. Your writing is perfectly fine. -
Is it safe to assume that the LS chat is still primarily IC?

OP's last visit was over a month ago.

As someone who travels between Thanalan and La Noscea by ship on a regular basis, it'd be hard for Jana to not notice anything going on. There probably are a few potential hooks for her to get involved!
-
Just like my Doman picture books. Yes, Jana likes this.
-
This is probably the easiest way to think of it. It's not really in the game yet, as was originally envisioned.
-
...That wasn't my implication at all. Anyone who loudly broadcasts belonging to an enemy faction is either going to make a lot of IC-enemies or be regarded as a non-RPer stirring up trouble. Not that I think Otto would "loudly broadcast" it, but telling the wrong person about these goings-on could end up with stories spreading, trust being lost, etc. while in-character. Just because players can't openly PK or arrest another player doesn't mean they can't get the rumormill going.
