  1. Yes, I meant Piety, not Mind. I don't play casting classes very often, and you'd think a "god-y" stat like Piety would have to do with healing, no the other way around... Just a little confusion on my part. What you wanna do in the end is up to you. Just keep in mind that this game doesn't put a lot of emphasis on race and racial stat. Rather it encourages players to level every class to 50 on a single character, for better or worse, so no race has a real leg-up on any other per class.
  2. Delial knows the secret to SMN endgame DPS: ACN has the highest STR out of the casting classes and gets a nice boost over time using melee-range autoattacks! My character is still fairly clueless but if you should happen to catch me online, send me a message and I'll be happy to help her get to know the rest of the character involved in the plotline~
  3. The stat differences make no tangible difference in endgame; the one example I can think of is Lallafel BLM getting an extra cast with their Mind without having to work on the stat. Unless you're willing to rework your character into a Lallafel, starting stats are basically meaningless.
  4. The question then becomes "why play Miqo'te at all" when male midlanders (I don't know about highlanders) can be much more boyish?
  5. Don't forget that this game has jiggly jubblies even on a size 0 Miqo bust.

    Rules of RP.

"Or is it generally accepted that something like that is bullshit and shouldn't count?" This is about correct, most people will either ignore or blacklist such a player because it seems like a shitty troll and not a roleplayer. Same for your example of "X steals Y's Z" because Y doesn't have any real chance to respond to Z. There was a thread a while back in here about swearing; different people seem to have a different level of tolerance for it. As a general rule you should try to make clear your character is swearing or swearing at other characters, not players.
  7. It's really a matter of how your choose to interpret it. The Ascians would probably say the player character is tempered by Hydaelyn, and it does seem that way from how the primals cannot temper PCs, but it's not explicitly stated. The closest thing to tempering we see done by something that isn't the primals is the effect of Dalamud on Nael van Darnus, which (iirc) also wasn't referred to explicitly as "tempering" (and Dalamud housed an Elder Primal anyway).
  8. real DEX limit break please ;-; Also, I thought that Musketeer was going to be a dual-handgun class, like what the Admiral uses in the story quests, but I hope we get long guns in some way too. Especially since muskets aren't handguns...
  9. Not too shabby for someone who hasn't managed to show up yet. While I was kept offline by unforeseen circumstances last night, I can usually make it online at that time on Wednesdays. My character hasn't been introduced but hopefully there will still be time for it before next week.
  10. T1 through T4 are pretty easy with a coordinated group, it's T5 that echo is mostly for. I do appreciate them changing the displayed average time for ranged and melee DPS queues but it won't really make a difference in the actual waiting game. I also think they should make changes to PvP or add some other way to actually PvP before raising the rank cap and adding gear. It's too boring and most people don't really touch it as it is.
  11. I don't think it's really being nitpicky; I initially passed over this thread because I thought it was asking for something very different. It's just a bit misleading as it is now. In any case, my character doesn't fit into what you're trying to do here, but I wish you luck all the same!
  12. It's good to feel emotions while you read and write RP; investing a bit of yourself into it will make the job you do better. Being disconnected from your character's feelings of love or hate doesn't mean being unemotional or unfeeling, it just means being able to separate IC from OOC.
  13. I'm pretty sure those are just nicknames, like some of the other NPCs that have them (Rabid Ratata comes to mind).
  14. This is interesting. If I may make a suggestion though, for combat, you can use rolz.org and make a dice room with all combatants in it so that everyone can see the dice rolls instead of having to take it on good faith. It's what is used for the dice-combat in the Grindstone tournaments. Edit: I should add that my character Jana Ridah, will be on the "Hero" side. She's an adventurer and might need to be hired IC, but is more than happy to go up against Garleans!
  15. Get each class to level 15 for the important cross-class skills, then make lots of HQ items and turn them in for multi-leve HQ exp. The important skills beyond 15 to cross-class are CUL 37 and CUL, CRP, and BSM's 50s, though those aren't mandatory by any means.
  16. Yeah, it's temporary! Don't fret, try again when the servers are calmer~ Depending on your time zone, a weekday morning has worked for me in the past.
  17. Jut in case you missed my initial edit, what's the exact error you got? Maybe post a screenshot?
  18. It depends on the tier your account is on. The entry account is the one that's $13 per month and it limits you to 1 character per server, 8 characters total. The regular account which is $15 a month moves the limit to 8 characters per server, 40 total. Edit: In case I misunderstood your question, are you getting a "server full" message instead? It's Sunday night so you will probably need to wait a while for people to go to sleep.
  19. Milkroot is said to not affect the player races, which is why the Sylphs always send you to gather/destroy/weaponise it. The item tooltips still say it sells for a lot on the black market though, so if you're looking into the contraband and smuggling side of things, milkroot is worth considering. The additive that enhances its potency is dreamtoad slime, whose legality isn't brought up about in the quest and FATE it comes up in. There's also a cave tucked into the back of a refugee camp in central Thanalan where you can see someone growing a bunch of plants secretively. I'd assumed it was for producing somnus before but it could be moko grass too, which I hadn't heard of before. (Is that something from gathering?)
  20. FFXIV only has the sub fee though so SE doesn't actually lose any money when you spend it elsewhere unless you unsub! I think some of you guys are taking things a bit too seriously though. As I see it, this is really just a system for endgame players to avoid having to mix-and-match AF2 and Allagan gear. SE has always left a bunch of restrictions in this game so the iLv thing doesn't really surprise me, and I would have actually been shocked if they were to allow people to use gear they couldn't actually equip, like casters in tank plate.
  21. Square has to appeal to as wide a fanbase as possible to make that money, and that means casual players (which suits me fine since I have to pug everything). Supposedly though, there's a rumor that these ninja nerfs to Twin and buffs to T2 ADS were actually meant for 2.2, not 2.16. Whether it's true or not, I doubt we'll ever really know. Edit: Well, I guess that's that.
  22. You should keep in mind when you're in the game at large that "Nunh" and "Tia" are the only surnames the random name generator will give to male seekers. If they're not a roleplayer, there's a good chance the player hasn't read up on what those titles even mean.
  23. I'm pretty sure that was meant to be a joke. If it's all people from 1 FC harassing you, have you tried contacting their leader? Usually, eve the threat of doing so is enough to get trolls to stop, since the leaders usually don't want to be made to look bad.
  24. Who are you more likely to blow cooldowns against: A DPS in full Darklight gear or one in full Direwolf? It isn't as if games haven't let you cover up PvP gear before, and players with a good set often don't change their appearance (my experience in Tera comes to mind), but it isn't as if there's no reason to keep them that way. Given how SE has already made it so that you can't even see your opponent's names or emote at them, it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to keep you from being able to mislead them with gear appearances.
  25. Name: Jana Ridah Race: Miqo'te (Keeper of the Moon) Age: 19 (15th Sun, 3rd Umbral Moon, 1563) Hair: Brown Skin: Light Brown Eyes: Purple Build: Just slightly taller than average. Biographical Place of Residence: Generally on the road, but is lately based out of a room in the Drowning Wench inn. Place of Birth: East Shroud, around where Castrum Oriens now stands. Profession: Adventurer, officially in the employ of Maelvaan's Gate. IC Classes: Archer, Pugilist, Arcanist. Hobbies: Training, Exploring ("I am an adventurer, after all!"), (attempting to pick up) Reading Relationships Mother: Dina Ridah (Deceased) Father: Rheem'a Bahar (Unknown/Deceased) Sister: Khena Ridah Patron God: Byregot the Builder (unaware/unobservant) Appearance Years learning how to hunt and trap animals in the Black Shroud followed with a harder life in Gridania after the Calamity have kept Jana lean and toned. The clothing she wears reflects her own self-image as an adventurer, usually being simple and protective. She's gotten used to wearing a pair of glasses while working for Maelvaan's Gate, needed for her to "work the damn grimoire," though she will never admit that they also help her accuracy with a bow. Personality While she is rather carefree, Jana is no stranger to the trials brought upon the survivors of the Calamity. However, she's optimistic (some might say naive) enough to remain upbeat, though whether she's actually happy or just burying her misgivings is unclear to even herself. She is capable of working hard when she has a clear goal in front of her, but Jana doesn't take work itself very seriously. She acts confident to the point of arrogance when within the confines of “adventuring,” but is a lot more hesitant in most every other aspect. History While all Jana will voluntarily share with most others is that she's an adventurer originally from Gridania, she was actually raised in a small Keeper of the Moon village in the East Shroud. It was there that Jana learned the basics of using a spear and a bow, how to track and trap game, and how to turn it into food and leather, all while well within the bounds enforced by the Wood Wailers. However, much of what she knew was wiped out by the Calamity, and the Wailers that her family had known had gone off to war and never returned. The remaining Keepers scattered with the subsequent Garlean establishment of Castrum Oriens, some making it to larger living groups in the area, others retreating further into the forest to live as poachers. Jana's mother Dina was able to escape to Gridania with her two children, but Jana and her sister Khena weren't able to save her from an illness she had caught while traversing the shroud. The two young Miqo'te scraped out a living by hunting small game around the city and selling the meager meat and furs to other refugees for a few years. It was during these first years of the seventh umbral era that Jana learned how to fight bare-handed, fending off competition that was more likely to poach and draw attention from the authorities (though her fights often drew them over regardless). On the fifth year of the umbral era, Jana and Khena decided to put their money together to escape their life as homeless, small-time hunters. With her share of the savings, Khena was able to rent her own small lodging and join the Archer's Guild in Gridania, while Jana loaded up on supplies and made the journey to Ul'dah, supposedly chasing the promise of further riches while honing her skills as a pugilist. In reality, Jana was trying to chase her idea of “revenge”: By learning how Magitek worked, she hoped to turn the Garlean war machines of her youth against them and cleanse the Shroud of their presence. During her time in Ul'dah, Jana joined both the Pugilists' and Adventurers' Guilds, where she improved her ability to fight bare-handed and with knuckle weapons while working around Thanalan as an adventurer for hire. With time, she also joined the Free Brigade of the Immortal Flames, mostly taking small assignments and saving up for such luxuries as her own chocobo. But as time passed and battles escalated, Jana found herself fighting during the battle to capture Castrum Meridianum. Eager to see magitek in-person once more, she followed the Flames to victory, but it was then that she knew she could never learn how to harness that power by simply fighting it as a soldier or adventurer. After doing some research, she determined that the best way to advance would be to make her way to Limsa Lominsa, where Jana enrolled with the Arcanists' Guild and began to study the manipulation of Aether.
