The way I've seen it handled is for ranged players to not exactly stack, but line up behind Titan. That way you're still clear on either side when Weights happen, and if you're too slow you only eat 1. There doesn't seem to be much danger of being out of range for any AoE heals besides Cure III.

I couldn't find it on YouTube, but I like the opening music from Amdapor Keep.

You could check out Unity if you'd like. Its stated focus is more on being a safe place for LGBT players, but we have quite a lot of end-game raiders and RPers in the FC.

balmung The Grindstone - Saturdays at 10 PM EST (9 PM Central)
Jana replied to YesGood's topic in Roleplay Events
I'm sad that I didn't make it tonight (I only just got home right now). I'll try to stop by on Saturday! -
In any case, with Miqo'te differentiated by when they sleep, it wouldn't make sense for them to be awake for a couple of earth-hours at a time. They'd never get anything done!

The easiest in my head would be to organize them into albums on imgur or something, then link them here. I'm also interested to see what you've dug up, by the way. My character was born and raised in the Shroud, so I'm happy to learn what I can about the nuances of life there.

It's been a long time since college biology so correct me if I'm wrong, but for all of the races to be the same species, wouldn't they have to be able to all produce viable offspring with one another? We've seen examples of NPCs that are half Sun Seeker and half Moon Keeper, but until we see an NPC who is, say, half Hyur Midlander and half Elezen Duskwight, or at least hear about such a case, I wouldn't be able follow the same line of thinking. More on-topic, I think it's entirely possible that the level of "cat-ness" of a Miqo'te is something that's on an individual level, not a species/race/clan/tribal one. The NPC that says "meow" instead of "now" is very obviously a Moon Keeper but she is, as far as I know, the only Miqo'te and the only Keeper to speak in that specific way. Maybe it's something common to the Molkot family, but I don't think we can say "All Miqo'te speak/act/feel like so-and-so."

I haven't roleplayed my character much, but I did play a cat-like character in my last MMO. I gave her some quirks like enjoying naps in a sunny spot and liking to eat fish above most other foods, but she was also kind of a serious character. She didn't have an "accent" and would get offended if someone implied she should, and got mad at most people who would try to touch her ears or tail. Ears and tails are a lot of fun to use in RP though! I did have to get used to including them but once I did, it was easy to make them an additional way for my character to express herself, voluntarily or not. It's fun to make a straight-laced character give herself away because of an unconscious movement of those extra body parts that we wouldn't normally think about.

Balmung and Gilgamesh aren't official RP servers though, they're unofficial ones chosen by the RP community. Square Enix hasn't said anywhere that there are RP servers at all, so people joining the servers to play with friends, because they were open, because they liked the names, etc. have no way of knowing that there's going to be a roleplaying population at all. Doesn't excuse anyone's bad behavior, but you shouldn't talk about what it isn't about.

In addition to F'lhaminn, one of the reporters from the Lightning Returns storyline has a Seeker appearance, but a Keeper name.

I used to run a weekly storytelling event on Tera Online. It was fairly successful; a lot of those that came regularly were my friends, but there were a few times that we pulled in 40 players.

When I looked up Keeper NPC's names, I found that a few of them followed Egyptian conventions, modified a little for the extra "hissing H" sound (I may be remembering a little wrong, but I also think I also saw Turkish surnames). I used an Egyptian surname for my own character.

SPOILERS - Will the 2.0 finale become the RP "present time"?
Jana replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I personally prefer to "follow the endgame." The Praetorium is the end of the "main" story quests in ARR, but all of the endgame grinding is being done on battle that have been stated to take place after it. In TERA, which was brought up earlier, the endgame dungeon to grind was the same as the main story's end during the Argon War patch, so I played there very differently. That really isn't the case here, though! While I'm sure there are some ARR roleplayers who haven't reached 50 for one reason or another, I think most of them will have already cleared those story scenarios as well. -
Kind of related to this: Is there any way to sort the Linkshell Hall subforum like the others, by most recently updated? The subforum looks pretty now and it's nice to be able to sort by server, but it doesn't do me much good if I'm looking to see which have been updated recently at a quick glance.

When I played a scientist-type in Tera Online, I explained long absences IC by saying that my character had been locked away in her lab for a long time. I haven't really decided how to play my character in ARR, but it'll probably be something similar to that.

A few friends and I enjoyed exploring the "out of bounds" areas in Tera, climbing mountains and sneaking into empty zones that would have been for future content, but were empty. There were even a few times that we got a GM to join us and teleport us to places we wouldn't have been able to get to on our own. It's kind of sad that there aren't any such adventures to be had in FFXIV. I think you misunderstood me; I started following that kind of rule precisely because I was sick of running through two or more ERP circles while going to the bank in Velika. (Though I hardly needed a good excuse to go exploring outside the bounds of the game to begin with.) Either way, ERP is always going to be a touchy subject that everyone isn't going to agree on.
-
In my last MMO, which was Tera, some friends and I had a personal rule: "ERP in /say or not at all!" But this was to encourage people to take their dates somewhere more romantic or thematically appropriate, like a remote mountaintop to "cuddle" under the stars, instead of ERPing in whispers while in a circle in the middle of the main city square. I haven't really RPed in FFXIV yet, but from going around questing and leveling, it doesn't seem like the game has similar remote locations that don't feature in at least a few quests. I don't know how well I'm going to be able to follow the old rule whenever I get around to it...
-
There have been a few times where I accidentally sent an ERP message to /g instead of /s ... But that character was in a guild that was accepting of such things. Didn't stop me from feeling embarrassed or my guildies from teasing me though!

After playing a dark character on Tera, I was all ready to play a more innocent version on Balmung... I haven't really gotten my feet wet in FFXIV's RP yet, so I guess I'm a bit relieved to see that this bad-guy shortage is happening on Gilgamesh, even it's a bit mean to think so! I think part of why so many people prefer playing good guys is that we're more comfortable playing as someone whose morals and viewpoints we can agree with. I also think that so many badly played villains or the stereotypical godmode-ing villains come from people who can't really get into that mindset, or who think it has more to do with "being bad" rather than there being a real reason in the character's background to be. A more experienced writer won't have the same trouble when they play a character whose mindset differs from their own, which is why it seems like a lot of the well-played villains stand out more than the more numerous well-played good guys.

Cutscene audio is in the Other section of the config menu, all the way down at the bottom.
-
Error 3102 is back, which is the one that says the character is still logged in, so the servers are going to be full of people who can't log out to make room until yet another maintenance clears them out.

Thanks for the replies and links, looks like I have plenty of material to work through!

Hello! I am Jana, a fairly experienced RPer, and I'm interested at looking into the roleplay scene in ARR. I have a few questions though. Is there any place to look at lore regarding the cultures of the different races? I'm making my RP character a female Moon Keeper Miqo'te, and other than naming conventions and "nocturnal," I haven't found much about what kind of background I could expect the character to have grown up in. On a similar note, are there places to read about the events that shaped 1.0 and ARR? As someone who never played the original version of FFXIV, the timelines I've seen aren't very informative, and I don't feel like I know enough about the setting and history to make much sense of it. A minor quibble, but... Is it hard to get around the world? I haven't had much time in-game for various reasons, and while I understand that there are teleport crystals and chocobo rentals, these seem to only work after visiting a place on foot. Is it possible to go between the major/starting cities without crossing a lot of high-level areas on foot? That's all for now, but chances are I will think of more. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers these!
