  1. Wow... I, too, am admittedly new here... but other than people passionately supporting their server choice on the Server Poll thread (which seems entirely acceptable to me)... I have also not seen what I've perceived to be negative or condescending comments directed to the folks that want to roll Gilgamesh. Maybe I'm just oblivious? Or maybe they are mentioned in threads I have yet to read? I dunno... Personally, yes, I plan to roll on Balamung. But that doesn't mean I think that those that chose to roll on Gilgamesh are making a bad decision or are stupid or whatever whatever. I am =sad= that the RP community will be physically split this way, and therefore prevent me from RPing with the great folks that will make Gilgamesh awesome- but that is it. My hope is that this site could be a ===ROLEPLAYER=== supported site. Regardless of where your characters 'live'. That we all support eachother for being RPers and our desire to make great stories and our respective servers incredible. I see no reason to segregate eachother into separate "camps" when speaking of RP and RP topics in general. I see no reason why players on Gilga can't RP via forum with players on Balamung either. I see no reason why we can't still be on the same 'team' despite being in different playing fields. We are all Roleplayers. We love to create and make stories. We are passionate about our craft, dedicated to our art, and excited to share it with eachother- right? I know I'm still going to be keeping an eye on events and RP that I see mentioned here that occur on Gilgamesh- despite being on Balamung. I want to support my brothers/sisters 'in arms'. And... I see no reason why I can't comment on a Gilgamesh forum if I would like. I have no interest (and see no point) in 'putting down' anyone that chose Gilga, nor being passive-aggressive. Honestly, its your money, your RP preference, your choice. I have a member of my own LS that has already mentioned preferring to roll on the non-Legacy server. Do I hope she changes her mind? Yes... b/c I want to RP with her.. and I want to RP with the folks I'm meeting here that will be on Balamung. But do I think ill of her? Not at all. She'll make her decision and I'll be happy for her- either way. As mentioned before by a prior poster, this is not a competition (or shouldnt' be). This is: Balamung = THE chosen Legacy RP server Gilgamesh = THE chosen non-Legacy RP server That's it. Period. Same=same IMHO as far as 'importance' goes. Yes, this site is Balamung focused- or has been in the past because most of the members that created it were Legacy from Balamung. Makes sense. But the vote for Gilgamesh -JUST- happened so the site is now evolving as the Mods make room for and bring Gilgamesh into focus (as Kylin, et al said they would) as the main non-Legacy RP server. I have full faith in the Mods to make the needed adjustments to be fair to all: Legacy and non-Legacy server alike. But... in the end, yes: Respect eachother. Our true "enemies" are not fellow RPers- but the griefers and jerks that make our enjoyment of the game difficult.
  2. Xenedra commented that during 1.0, Balamung WAS locked for a day or so before opening up again and letting more folks in. So... if it DOES become locked due to overpopulation, give it a day or so and see if it evens out.
  3. Hey Xerek! Welcome to the RPC.... about time you drifted over here. ;-)
  4. Yes! More super heroes in Final Fantasy! Right when I thought the X-Men vs. Bahamut scenario couldn't get any better! Sorry, it's late, and I really like making up ridiculous situations that would never happen. Didn't even see this. You're my hero. *8-)* justice league lol
  5. Monk doesn't make sense unless pugilist is part of the build.....
  6. I do agree with both points mentioned by Black. It's really a catch-22... but in the end, if RPers don't know where to go to find the highest concentration of RP... we all lose out. Yeah, tacking "-RP" at the end of a server will draw in some griefers with nothing better to do, or those hardcore PvE'ers that think "RP server = easy Server Firsts"... or "mature community". Hey, I have no problem with PvE/PvP'ers that just want a mature community coming to a RP server. They do their thing, let us do our thing, maybe they discover the coolness that is RP... maybe they just get their Server Firsts, smack eachother in battlegrounds and happily dungeon their days/nights away. Whatever... players like that make it easy to find a decent PuG when I'm wanting to just smack a Boss in a dungeon. And those griefers? if you don't feed them, they typically get bored and go away. /ignore... if all else fails for a time. Would I prefer a server of more RPers than straight PvE/PvPers? Of course. But as long as they're respectful, I have no issue. If they are NOT, I'd want a server that would be enforced to get rid of the griefers. Now, I'm not talking about report and ban some guy with some irritating, but benign name (Clark Kent)... I'm talking tools like (PwNJ00 Now or xxxSexualHealingxxx... or worse). I'm talking support via /logs of the griefing or offensive behavior (teabagging, "RP" rapes of corpses, etc). Yes, that takes up man-hours to police and... I hate that. I wish there could be a program that would weed through the crap complaints and really hit the valid ones. One VERY simple solution is: Before joining a RP designated server, you are presented with an info box that you must read/click (like the NDA) and be held to those rules. Something like "This is a RP designated server. Naming and behavior rules are in effect and will be enforced. Repeat offenders to the rules (stated below) will be removed from the server and deposited into the next available low pop server and your account flagged. If you agree to these rules (listed), click Yes" Sure some folks would test the rules, but if they are upheld in the beginning... should make for easier time later as it will become common knowledge that "SE enforces the rules." Something like this would dissuade griefers in 3 ways: one- the initial warning, two- the removal to a LOW pop server (aka less folks to connect with and annoy... and PvP/PvE with)... and three inability to move to another server of their liking (or return to the RP server under another name w/o paying the $$$ to do so). Word gets around if standards are stuck with, and ultimately creates less work (and less forum flaming). Now... the above would not pertain to RP preferences. As long as they aren't offensive, the other stuff can just be... dealt with. And it wouldn't necessarily negate the chatting about "the Game last night" or other RL things in spacial...or dragging Jedi, WoD, X-Men or whatever into FF... which is grating... but also, benign. A polite request to take it to /whisper or /group and to respect the RP going on should work if the players KNOW they rolled on a RP server. Any that roll should respect RPing going on and try to get along. RP screw ups happen- even to vets. I've accidentally fell into a Godmod or Meta before. If everyone is honest... we all have. Call some guy by his name thinking you'd met him IC- and you hadn't. Refer to something in his/her bio that I wouldn't necessarily know IC yet... etc. Also... no room for /report. Its only when we get too crazy with the /report buttons that we get labeled as "RP nazis, elitists,.." and so on. Wow... this ended up being longer than I thought. haha Black's comments just kinda opened the floodgates and, I'm afraid, shifted me off-topic from the OP. Still... that is the best kind of RP environment we could hope for right now. Its not 'special treatment'... just respectful treatment. RPers pay money just as much as straight PvP & PvEers... often MORE money b/c we like those fluff items and pretty clothes and pets. LOL AND we stick around longer (more $$) if we feel the love. Dunno why Devs don't see this. Guess its just that we're still 'the minority'... Love it Uther! ... tho I think Storm might need to cool off Bahamut first. Yanno fire and all that... Freeze, then shatter with laser. Let Wolvie get a few swipes in and Jubilee can make fireworks to celebrate. X-men... yeah, I said it.
  7. Definitely interested in this... ... if only as a way to stalk Yssen. (just kidding... ) Seriously though, I think it might fit her persona. I'll be in touch.
  8. Looks very, very cool. Great job... reminds me of what we're after in our LS. Hopefully we can share a server and get some great stories/adventures going together! :cactuar:
  9. Great idea, I'd definitely want to get a pearl once I get IG.:moogle:
  10. Your Linkshell sounds amazing! VERY good job on the history and timeline. Not sure if it is something my character could 'fit' into (still ya never know...)- but if nothing else, maybe we can network and get some good RP going
  11. Grats Gilgamesh! *still hoping all this is moot and there will be a dedicated non-Legacy RP server* My LS's concern is that Balamung will fill up before we all get in... so worst case scenario, I want to go where there will still be a very strong RP showing... aka SE dedicated RP server (with anti-griefing and naming rules, please... I've had enough of 'creative' names in my derping about in NW to last me a lifetime). LOL
  12. yeah, Asyria... lol I tend to like the more intimate group RP myself- versus the crazy, rolling chat spam that you get in large groups. I always feel like I'm missing stuff and... well, get behind because I -must- read everything! haha Totally throws my rhythm off... Of course, it is also preference because I rather like the more in depth and focused RP you just can't -DO- in a busy RP hub (because of things mentioned above). Now... if we're talking a smallish group of 10-15 folks in an isolated setting, that might be doable. As long as people aren't talking over eachother too much... haha But yeah... this is a great idea and a great way to get new/rusty RPers back into the groove (and help FF newbies feel a -bit- more comfortable in Eorzea...)
  13. Awesome, awesome job! So many phenomenal artists on this site!
  14. Your work is incredible, Xenedra. Keep them coming! :chocobo:
  15. Actually... that sounds like a workable plan, Magellan. Initially meet OOC, "hi, how are ya, yadda yadda" then have short 'IC sessions' that help work on different things based on skill level- or just what is needed. If it begins as an OOC thing with 'IC short sessions' then discuss OOC... that would work great IMHO.
  16. LOL that's awesome!
  17. Big fan of complex, interactive and expansive (aka involving/enhancing more than one person's story) storylines, and storylines with 'real' consequences for IC actions. But, like others have said, keeping the Drama to a realistic level and... sharing the spotlight. It gets really, really tiring when "X" is =always= in some kind of ZOMG! situation and no one can get a RP story in edgewise. We all want to get some limelight- some like the spot light more than others, but we all want to be 'seen' in some way. But yeah, everyone RPs differently. Some people's RP styles irk me. Some I can ignore the small annoyances and still enjoy the interaction. Some... I absolutely LOVE... but no one way is the RIGHT way, so we all need to either accept it, or just step away from the RP that bugs us and let people have fun that enjoy RPing how they like.As long as the "RP is true RP... and not griefing in disguise, I can deal. (that said, some RPers enjoy RPing against the griefers... I usually just don't care to spend time doing so... but its often amusing to watch! Especially if the RPer is -very- good at it... haha)
  18. My only issue with the 'non-canon' thing is this: If I meet your character IC, I'm going to start creating an 'idea' of who/what your character is. Even if we 'meet for real' later after launch... the 'I know you!' feeling will linger and MIGHT color how I (or you) are 'seen' and responded to. For example... Say my IC character is meant to be a quiet, recluse... or some twisted evil assassin type. BUT... for the purposes of meeting/getting to know you all OOC and getting comfortable RPing with you... I arrive and am very friendly, silly, interactive, whatever "IC"... We meet later, you maybe can't recall exactly how we met.. but recall the name and the look, and your mind goes "silly, friendly, funny"- when that is NOT how my character is "for real". I try to play the character, but you get confused because its not the character you recall... Especially with people new to RP overall and nervous about things/wanting to make a good impression, etc. Boy- I hope that didn't come across as confusing as I fear it might. Trust me: makes sense in my mind, but that's not saying much.... Basically... I know in the past I've met folks IC and not exactly recalled where or when... OR met them OOC and *thought* I met them IC... which leads to the "oops, meta!" accident when you say their name... haha Honestly... would actually be a LOT easier if there was going to be a Beta Flush after P4... so we'd all come into the game with fresh characters that we can play as we like, but the ice has already been broken and we've had our IC fun... Ah well, we'll work it out. this is too good an idea to NOT do it, despite the initial confusion it might cause.
  19. I, personally, have no issue with running dungeons OOC (I like seeing what the devs have created!)... though admittedly, running them IC is more fun- especially with an adventuring group or if you have some RP story to back up the 'delving into that dungeon.' Preference would probably be to run it OOC for the first time to get an understanding of mechanics, etc... (especially since explaining a fight IC is often hard and time consuming). But.. there is also something to be said for just jumping in there and throwing caution to the wind, learning the fights totally IC. haha If I run it OOC- I never mention it or refer to it IC. If I know lore says "X" is dead (aka GW2, globally understood the dragon Kalkatorec (sp?) was killed- (which you do at the end of the personal storyline)), then even if my character has not actually killed "X", I just accept he's dead. If/when my character literally takes part in 'killing' it- I either treat that as OOC, or just behave like it happened 'long ago.' Grey areas, sure, but not something I dwell on, focusing more on my character's created story- not the game created one. If I run it IC, and do so again IC.... then I work out a reason why I'm doing it again. Either 'alt dimension/rift' (Rift), must not have killed him the first time, not 'really' the boss/things I'm fighting, but something that fits the storyline we're working on... or something that everyone in the LS/GC can agree on. Again, not something I really stress over. But yes... if I am running it OOC with an IC group, I make it clear "my character" is not there. Best way to facilitate that? simply don't say or do anything RP-like. Talk only OOC in /group and just be 'invisible' and let the others RP their story. Just gotta make sure people you're dungeoning with are on the same page. My 2 gils.
  20. Sounds like a great idea... would love to meet folks (that is my biggest struggle...)
