  1. woot! *downs the shots* PIRAGE!
  2. Absolutely awesome intro, and very, very cool studies. I lived in Okinawa for 3 years as a child- such a neat environment and wonderful people. I still have this lingering love for all things Asian (and take my shoes off at the door... always), can sing Mary Had a Little Lamb in Japanese and nearly fell over when I heard the Dragonfly song I learned in Elementary school on the soundtrack to Old Dogs... Funny how things sink into your brain while its still growing. *offers some chocolate to help you forget the trauma of Goldshire* Anyway... welcome and I look forward to getting to know you here on the RPC

    Hi

LOL- nice intro, Gary! Welcome to the RPC- I'm sure you'll find a great place among us, and dont' worry- the White Mages are stocking up on ointments Just. In. Case.
  4. I like to think that though Eorzea might be a 'melting pot' of cultures and races, that there will still be those that cling to traditions or cultural mores based on their upbringing or race. For all the examples people have mentioned before me in comparison to Earth: Amish, traditional Asian beliefs and habits in the midst of big cities, even Aborigines in Oz! They know of modern life, are exposed to it... yet still many live in the Bush. Do these more traditional societies all distrust 'modern' things? No... they simply are not as comfortable, or it just isn't 'how things are done'... or 'how we do it in my family.' Everyone has traditions and culture that shapes us- some are stronger than others, but we all have them, and we share them. Would it be unusual to meet a Hyur that married a Miqo- and then took up some of the Miqo's 'ways'? Naw... neither is the reverse. I love culture. It is what makes each of us different and interesting. If we all thought, believed, behaved and worshiped the same, this word (and Hydaelyn in general) would be a very boring place. I love to explore varying cultures, it adds interest and quirks to RP sometimes. But do I think that we should encounter some backwoods rube that is awed by technology, cities, and the stylus on a regular basis? Heck no. Will we? Gods, I hope not. Culture/tradition adds flavor, helps us not all be same-same, helps RP flourish and take new avenues at times, brings up different viewpoints and so on. .... however, speaking of: was there ever an explanation as to why the male Miqo'te are now more visible? Was it just because of the aftermath of Dalamuld and the need for EVERYONE to come out and help rebuild?
  5. The closest thing I can relate to this is my Tour of Duty in SWG: In the beginning, you could hybridize. You could literally become whatever you wanted your character to be. My fave (and what my character identified with) was as a Teras Kasi Master and Pikeman. (aka unarmed martial artist/knuckles & polearm) Now, did that mean that in my 3+ years in SWG I didn't have her master just about every other profession? Nope. I did. And yes, I did it IC. BUT... I min/maxed the impact it had on her and her character development. For example: She can cook, but not spectacularly. She can use stimpacks and had some Combat medic-like awareness of healing- but was no physician. She can dance, but just enough to blend in formal occasions to get close to her mark. Her mastery in instruments became a strong appreciation for certain types of music. She can image design- well because that is the single BEST way to blend in as an agent. She had connections to Spynet as a contracted Bounty Hunter- but she wasn't Bothan and didn't have good connections there. She could do a bit of splicing- to get computer info- but wasn't really a Slicer per se. She had an understanding of gene splicing- but all her Bioengineered pets were purchased/given to her. And so on. So each thing she did in her overall development created an 'aspect' of her- but she was only a true master and skilled at Unarmed and the polearm (specifically the Zabrak traditional zhaboka- or 'crescent staff'). IC wise, she got crap from others because she was completely anti-blaster and hand-held weapons. In a world where THE thing was a blaster or a 'saber, she preferred the 'intimate kill'. Saying that, she COULD use them (IG mastery), but was really really not a fan and not such a great shot. But, had its uses to slow targets down so she could get her hands on 'em! So... that's how I think of the ability to 'multi-master' things. Max and Min the impact and IC skill... but still keep it as a part of the character. And avoid the Mary Sue. Character growth (and interaction) is stymied when you're uber at everything!!
  6. Ok so based on my needs (aka lore and getting introduced to the community, as I'm horrible at meeting people (RL introvert makes it VERY hard- even IG which is digital RL- haha- tho not really on forums, where I seem to type a LOT *coughs*): I humbly ask: Yssen Thinking seriously of rolling a Duskwright monk and.. her story could legitimately coincide with yours such that it wouldn't be OOC to speak to him IC. I'm still working on it... really need that CC Benchmark *sighs* But... it was the OOC RP info that sold me- I agree with all of it and it made me smile. (the IC info was great too... hehe)
  7. Great explanation, Kari and welcome to you Cole! I hope you enjoyed Beta this past weekend!
  8. Bit late to the party (dang work...) but welcome nonetheless and I look forward to meeting your pirage as you pillage (pirate and mage- get it? ..... no?.... *sighs* ok yes, i'm a dork... moving on...).

  10. Hey and welcome! I'm still poking about in GW2 occasionally myself, but becoming more and more underwhelmed at the content (really? Quaggan puffy hats?! Give me Canthan traditional robes, dammit! /rant off) Not on Piken Square tho... or I'd say Hi there too. hehe Enjoy Beta though! (*jealous*)
  11. The Fish House... I know that place! *stalks* Kidding! Welcome to the RPC!

    Hello ^_^

Yes... Horde had a MUCH better community... but Barrens chat was *twitch* I actually had my most fun RP 'duo' in the Horde: my friend and I played a Tauren warrior (nicknamed Meat) and my Troll shammy (nicknamed Pistachio). We.. erm... were comedic. Gah that cow was dumb... *giggles* But yeah, some found great world RP there, I just never saw any. *sighs* *offers tissue and chocolate to Azthran* Its over now... the bad elves and gnomes have gone...
  17. Hey, hi and welcome! A lot of new RPers trying it out for the first time... so don't be shy! The community is very helpful.

  19. Great character idea! I love to see characters that stretch the limit and bring 'life' into a world. Not everyone is nice... or on the up and up. Gotta have the dark ones to add interest and create conflict. So props to you! My last foray into playing a dark character in an MMO was.. .a mixed bag. Tier'dal fury in EQ2, read up/got into the 'persona'... and I am have to say... have both pride and abject humiliation to admit that I- as a prospective new member to my DE House (the guild)- managed to get one (admittedly newer) member kicked and and myself added, and three of the males interested in her... all due to my portrayal. Humiliation... because I do NOT cause drama. I absolutely detest OOC drama and B.S. and I did NOT want anyone kicked or ANY strife or ANYthing like that. OOC is OOC... IC is IC. Keep it separate! Pride... because, well apparently, I did the Tier'dal female right RP wise. hahaha. She was a cold, manipulative, seductive, twisted little thing...(and quite fun to play) Still, haven't felt brave enough to give a pure dark character a shot again- so again, props to any that can do it and come off as a nice guy OOC and a total jerk IC. hehe I look forward to meeting Low-Z... *grins*

    Hello ^_^

Hahaha frankly I'm still in awe of the RP in WoW.... I never found any, save in my small group of friends! (run awaaaaay from Goldshire! do NOT walk the tunnel from Storm... whatever to Ironforge... NEVER NEVER walk it... esp alone.... *huddles in a corner and starts crying*) And yes, I am guilty of the "hmm... wonder if I -can- take that Level 10 nasty. He's alone afterall..." (I am level 5...) Anyway Hope we all find WONDERFUL, memorable RP stories (and spectacular story-worthy deaths) in ARR!
