Hi Welcome to the RPC! Rest assured, whichever server you choose- Gilgamesh or Balmung- you'll be among great people IC and OOC. But don't let the stress of beginning your RP journey on a Legacy server deter you. There will be a LOT of new RPers (and new RPers to FF- like me!) on Balmung... Choose the one that seems to 'feel' best. There are several threads discussing the differences, what each has to offer and so on- but it just boils down to this: BRAND NEW START: Gilgamesh ACCESS TO EXPERIENCED LOREMASTERS IG: Balmung That said... this site is rife with lore and regardless of server, the members here are very open and willing to share their accumulated knowledge from Final Fantasy overall & 1.0. If endgame and monetary issues are a concern, (aka the Legacies having max levels and more gil than newbies, therefore borking the economy)... let that go. The number of Legacies (esp RPing Legacies) is expected to be MUCH less than the newcomers- such that it shouldn't be an issue at all. Besides, with the level adjustments, total game revamp, and so on... most will want to play the game "all over again"? anyway... hehe OR just spend more time focusing on the RP than the PvE. Either way, win for me. Rock and the crew forming on Gilgamesh have been hard at work building a strong RP community as well. But I'm biased...:tonberry: Good luck in your search!!!

Hmm... yes, I see your points there. Thanks! Still... from my perspective... I don't think I could play a WoL (even if the game intends me to be one?) because IC (and OOC) wise, my character & I weren't there. I am lacking the lore, history, connections, animosities, etc. But.... that is my personal belief. If someone wants to RP being a WoL but just arrived, well... I doubt anyone would know the difference (if the RPer is talented and knows the lore intimately). Was just wondering... haha. The amnesia take is interesting though. I could see one of the WoL waking up with last memory being destruction, blood, death... and brilliant white light... expecting to open eyes to face their deity... and instead, just green grass, blue sky and a chocobo licking their nose... and totally confused as to WHAT the heck just happened?!?! I could also see a family member recalling their loved one went to fight against the Calamity- and simply believed them to have died. So... if/when family member shows up? It's "OMG!!!! I thought you died!" and not even a thought that they could be WoL... because its true... not EVERYone that was at the Battle would be the Chosen Ones to be saved by Louisoiux (sp?)... but I would wager was more than the 4. He called on the gods to save the heroes- no sense in thinking they HAD to be next to him when he prayed. Gods are omniscient like that.

Frankly... I think it could add a cool element to some RP, if done right. I mean... I don't wanna see a ton of WoL running around saying 'Lookie me! I'm the Chosen One! Kiss my tat!' *laughs (no offense meant to any Legacy person... I'm being silly. ;-) )* I like the idea of them being rare and special (which they SHOULD be in reality, if subs are as predicted)... kinda like Jedi were SUPPOSED to be in SWG.. ... Omg... I went there. :blush: Now I'll =never= hear the end of it, comparing Legacy to Jedis... But, seriously, I think it could be kinda cool in the right hands. I mean... If I was a Legacy person, I would want to continue my story... which would include being a returned WoL. But... I would not really want anyone to know and, by default, treat me like Michael Jackson or Elvis Returned... but I'd still BE who I am. Of course, that is they type of character -I- tend to play.. the quiet one. ;-)

.... couldn't figure out how to take a screenie. I -thought- "print screen" would be it... but 'pparently not as I cannot locate my attempts in the SE folder... Am I looking in the right place? Or.. are they hiding elsewhere? Or... did I just not know how to take a screenie...

I work nightshift (am actually at work now on my iPad, battling its sometimes annoying habit of jumping to my desktop and deleting stuff I've typed... or not letting me type so I have to go back and edit a post... but I digress... hehe) and am typically on all night long. *waves at the Euro and Ozzies* I know there is a LS that has formed for night players (is it yours? I didn't see it tacked below your avatar, so guessing not)... depending on what server you go to (I can't recall if they were going Gig or Balmung), they might be a good group to either join or network with.

Granted, I'm a newcomer to FFXIV lore and the game... but what you wrote sounded like could be interesting and fun to RP. In my history though, I've found you simply must RP what feels 'right'- regardless of what others may say. You simply HAVE to feel comfortable in the character's skin for them to 'flow' through you and make great RP. Now, not talking twisting lore and all that jazz... I mean the core being underneath the game wrapping. I don't know if my method of character "creation" (which I will not go into here and derail, but I'm sure it will come out eventually... *eyes the Origins thread*) is like others or if I'm some 'special snowflake' in how I think, feel and develop- but I tend to think that I'm more common than spekshal. *grins* I liked the write up, sounded fine to -me-... and sounded like a Miqo I'd like to meet IG.

lol! yeah... granted its used a lot more in kids, it still -IS- a legit therapy. But, adult people have to feel comfortable enough to do so- otherwise they become self-conscious and feel silly. Of course... that is RP in person. Not anonymously online... where one can truly just 'let it go' and not have to feel self-conscious at all. (B/C they're not 'the show' but... part of 'the show' with everyone else). haha Unless you're an actress/actor and... you get paid to do it.... *grins*

one other thing to consider... Even if there is a Legacy member that is L60, he/she will undoubtedly want to play the game and experience the new stuff. So they will be around the lowbie areas to play with... ... and not be L60. They will be knocked down to the level appropriate for that area, yes? But if not, definitely if you group with them for some RPvE. Soooo..... the level disparity is really not that big a deal either. What it boils down for me is this: FFXIV:ARR will be a NEW game. It won't be FFXIV 1.0. The vets will want to play it all, so no one will really have a true "leg up" on the newcomers- save in lore and history stuff. Which... I think is more cool and good than bad. Sure, some of it will be VERY familiar... but most will not. I don't see newcomers being lonely (not only because we will be the most populous folks on the server) because I suspect all areas of the game will be busy. What amuses me most is... worrying about folks not being around to fight with in newbie zones... when the REAL issue is on the Dev side. Instead of breaking out a new game where everyone is at L1- and thus ALL players will be coming from the newbie zones (giving them *some* time to polish off end-game for those that get a thrill out of 'beating' the game in a week or less)- SE will be dropping a game out that is expected to be AWESOME from L1 clear to L60. No buffer for SE. There WILL be Legacies that are L60 that will want to play the hard stuff immediately. Of course they won't have the GEAR to do so... so that would give SE a bit of time... but still... And chances are, most will not be RPers. But some might be. So... Square Enix will undoubtedly have their game on and expect this... Aka... every bit of FFXIV will have action.

^^^^^ That. I see RPing as more 'reality in another world' than 'playacting on a stage'. I like being faced with reality and consequences for my character's actions and/or mistakes. I... honestly.... get annoyed if my character makes some big faux pas- and it's just brushed aside. I... -want- to get into trouble, I -want- to own up to my screw ups. I WANT confrontation if I deserve it. But people are (globally) afraid of OOC offending folks. Because sooo many people cannot find that line between IC and OOC. Because of that, I am a picky RPer. I need to know and trust those I will RP with OOC to be decent folks that understand who I am OOC- and not get all ticked and offended if my character is a jerk IC... and vice versa. Especially since I'm not opposed to more violent or mature RP situations. If I know *you* are a cool person OOC and can keep the IC separate from the OOC and communicate well? Well... I feel I can just cut loose and throw junk your way for you to parry or throw back at me. I can be an IC jerk... or do things that my OOC self would go "OMG... no way!" and both *you* and I can laugh behind the screen and enjoy the mess the characters have gotten themselves into. Yeah... RL sucks sometimes- but sometimes, the best way to *deal* with the RL crap is to RP it out in a "safe" way. SAY what you want to say to the person that's stressing you, DO what you want (that you maybe can't IRL) to vent out that frustration/pain/anger/etc. This is a legit psychological therapy (called *wait for it* ROLEPLAY therapy!). So yah... some of us want to escape the Real World and live in Happy Land (not said to be insulting, just a classification) to deal with our issues (you create a Safe Place in which to 'live'- also a legit stress management, psychological technique- especially people that deal with abuse wherein the 'drama' that some RP entails can trigger very RL feelings). Whereas others of us want to live in "Conflict" and "Risk"... to get our thrills. Even if we are in crappy situations IRL- online we can work it out and end up calmer and less stressed. No one way is right. We are all unique in our thoughts, feelings and stress management techniques, and what we enjoy. We just need to find those that we mesh best with. :moogle:

I'm looking at Balmung, but you already know that Xerek. ;-) For me, having an established RP community is not intimidating as much as exciting. I am -very- tired of trying to start from square one and trying to find RP. Been there, done that... I just want to find like-minded creative folks and have fun RPing, adventuring IC and making epic stories that make me EXCITED to log in to the game, and sad when I must log off or go to work. Now, will I get wrapped up in said RP? I dunno... I hope so, but in the end, it all depends on how my character resonates with everyone else's. Might not work out... might. Either way, I want to give it a shot. That said... I am NOT in any way suggesting that the RPers of Gilgamesh would not be entirely capable of creating RP that would make me feel this way. It is entirely possible that they would. But what I -am- saying is... well... I miss RP. And if I can hedge my bets on encountering it in its most mature (aka established), developed, articulate, lore-enriched form, I'm going to take it. No slam on Gilgamesh RPers. But if most are admittedly new to the game and so on, then... well logically they would have less lore & game knowledge. And I *nom* on lore like a kitty does catnip. But my overall preference would be a dedicated RP server for everyone... just put us all together and make RP magic. *shrug*
