Specifically something that can be made simply (as I'm terribly unartistic) and linked in a search message. Bonus if it allows for multiple pages for multiple characters. Anyone have any suggestions, or praise for one you use yourself?

Restrictions on housing and servers will be lifted on Feb 20

People seem to be under the impression that they'll be allowing new characters and not just transfers, which I highly doubt. Don't get your hopes up. -
So as I've finally caved and begun making wikis for some of my characters I've run into an issue. I generally loathe such things as it's my opinion that any sort of information about a character should be learned by interacting with them, but it almost feels like a prerequisite for anyone on Balmung to take you seriously these days so I went ahead with it anyway. My issue stems from deciding exactly how much information should be put there, as even if the website is supposed to be used as an OOC source of information it's not unusual for the information learned there to seep into how people behave IC. My most recent conundrum has come with my trying to create a profile for my Garlean who is for lack of a better word undercover in Eorzea. Should his status as a Garlean be listed on the RPC, or his cover story? His 'fake' identity? I've seen more than a couple people with similar premises coming out and listing their character was a spy or something but I'm not sure it's the right way to go. What do you guys think?

Hello all, been ages since I posted anything on here but my wife and I have recently returned from a break from the game only to find ourselves guildless and we're hoping to find an RP-FC to join up with and get back into the RP community. Our characters are a pair of Miqo'te, one a seeker and one a keeper, who up until very recently have been up in Ishgard for personal reasons. After finally leaving they discovered the group they belonged to had disbanded in their absence and are now basically slumming it while trying to figure out what to do. We're looking for an active group to be a part of, not necessarily large, and are leaning towards a more neutral themed FC where our characters can use their skills to pay their way or at least make a steady income. Without going into too much detail on the characters themselves (it spoils the fun to lay everything out), they are a couple with one being an arcanist and the other posessing few if any practical combat skills. So if you think your FC might have room for us we'd be happy to get into more detail, and you can reply here or drop me a PM or whatever. Thanks in advance.

What future game releases are you most looking forward to?

Star Ocean 3 ruined the franchise, I dunno how it can possibly be your favourite. <_> -
My wife and I would be interested in joining you guys. Out in-game names are Khal Malaguld and Kyoko Onishi. We'd be glad to go through an interview and all that if you'll have us.

Triple Triad Tricks, Tips and Trategies
Verranicus replied to Steel Wolf's topic in FFXIV Discussion
If you have 4 of the 2-star beastman cards (the ones with 3 6's each)and a decent 3 star or higher (I use Bahamut), the Indolent Imperial is hands down the easiest and most profitable to farm. His ascension rule has made it so I either win or draw every time, and both are a gain of MGP (win is 120, draw is 48). -
Triple Triad Tricks, Tips and Trategies

I'm in a bit of a rut in general. I've got every card from http://ffxivtriad.com/npcs down to the 25 MGP (sorting by fee) and everyone in the 25 bracket besides Buscarron just seems to kick my ass. Are there any guides or tips floating around for the harder NPCs? -
Lore isn't up for interpretation in most cases. It may be your opinion that your character is the secret love child of Cid and Nero and that Chocobos come from the moon, and that's great, but you'd be wrong. If someone corrects you or wants to discuss something like this, they're not trying to upset you or troll you, they're usually trying to save you further grief down the road. Also I couldn't help but laugh at the idea of a 'pro roleplayer'.

Parents should be keeping their children away from people who talk about things they're not comfortable with their kids hearing. You don't bring your child into a bar and tell everyone there not to cuss in front of your precious baby. Just like you don't join a linkshell/FC/forum and tell people not to discuss things that might make you uncomfortable when it's in your power to mute them or leave.

Mobile FFXIV APP to Allow for Off-Game FC Chat!

Excited for this. -
Why should anyone have to do something so obtuse over 2-3 people that can't be bothered to back off before things turn sour? This was the whole point of my first post: have consideration for your fellow players. It really isn't that hard, folks. If you're the only one offended over something 2-3 people are discussing wouldn't it make more sense for you to blist them or leave bing a single person instead of expecting a group of people minding their own business to cater to you?

For me, the key word here in the second option is "uncomfortable." I am a great believer in discourse, discussion, and that many people outside of the initial debate become more informed when there is a debate on an issue. By Seriphyn and I debating lore (using this example) I believe that a 3rd party may come to learn something from both my point of view and/or Seriphyn's and then come to form their own opinion on the matter by measuring each others' points, just as we, the debaters may come to an agreement where before we differed. That said, the moment our discussion becomes uncomfortable to the 3rd party viewers, it's time to move that discussion elsewhere because we have stopped being a beneficial influence. One of us has done something to offend the other, and that is not the goal of debate. You earn yourself (or your position on your topic) no favors by being inconsiderate of those around you. Just as you permit your debate opponent the courtesy of his opinion when you debate, you should also be courteous of the opinions of those your argument affects. In real life, I am a Paramedic. As a medic I have many stories, most of which, would be inconsiderate to tell in a public place where I might easily be overheard. Not everyone is desensitized to horrific stories of vomit, roaches, intubation, drug overdoses, or fatal MVCs. If I'm at a bar with my friends and I get into one of my stories, and the owner comes around and asks that I take the rest of my story outside because I'm making their other patrons uncomfortable... it is sure as hell not my place to tell them to grow a thicker skin and get over it. It is my place to either stop the discussion or leave, because I have done a disservice to my fellow patron. My story, while fun and educational to those involved, was not well received by everyone else. So too must debates follow similar courtesy when in a public setting where others (who have not agreed to this debate) are forced to play bystander. Move to /tells or form a party and continue your debate. Hell, make a LS called "Lore Debates" so that way everyone inside that linkshell has consented to a debate environment. There will be people in the world who are uncomfortable with -everything-. If we were to move any discussion that made anyone uncomfortable out of the public eye nobody would talk ever. People need to get over themselves and realize the world can't always cater to them and they need to toughen up.

I think it comes from a lot of RPers not wanting to be told their RP is "wrong", even if the established lore and the community at large tells them they are. It doesn't help when there are people encouraging them to ignore any sort of criticism.
-
The point of a forum is debate and discussion.
-
Or, you know, people could stop posting them every day and get on the server like many have before them.
-
I'd go as far as to say the Quicksand -is- the most central RP hub. It just doesn't suit my or my characters tastes with the whole 'loud bar full of flirty 20-somethings' atmosphere. Still, it's there.

You don't pay very much attention to the official forums, then. That's kind of wrong. I'm on the official boards every day and have yet to see anyone being outright hostile regarding alts. You only see people even getting close when someone starts the monthly "open Balmung plz" thread over there and people are just sick of seeing it. Shit, I'm sick of seeing it and I don't even visit the official boards. I mean, I can understand being frustrated by the server lockout. My friend was a bit annoyed at having to stay up til 7AM to get on, and I have another friend getting the game who's probably gonna have to wait til just before/after maintenance in a couple days to get on. However! People treat this like it's S-E twirling their mustaches as they watch the poor, disenfranchised roleplayers wail for deliverance. Or that S-E is just withholding server space to be evil. It's not, it's just a matter of their (albeit somewhat lacking) server infrastructure. There has to be limits on it or those of us on the server would be dealing with lag/crashes and there would be even more whining. You can't even compare it to WoW as Naunet seems to love doing, because not only is this game more advanced (and thus takes up way more storage space right from the get-go than cartoony and rapidly more dated looking WoW), but each class/job on our single character takes up the equivalent of a whole character on WoW or any other standard MMO. So while I may only have Yehn'za here, the fact that I've levelled every class to 50 means I'm actually using the space of 12+ characters right there. Anyway, like I said. If you want the alt that badly, there are ways to do it. It doesn't matter if you have to pay 10 bucks, or get up an hour earlier in the morning, there exist ways to do what you want to do. If you refuse to use the avenues available to you, you clearly didn't want/need that alt as badly as you thought.

You bring up one of the other things in this vein that irk me with the Miqo'te tribes. Every time I see a Nuhn walking around like it's totally normal I have to fight some internal battle to keep from getting riled up by it. Aren't Nuhn's canonically supposed to stay behind wherever their tribe lives and make babies? Why would they be wandering the world? Why would their tribe -let them-? They have no real power in their tribes (barring some exceptions), so you'd think the breeding males would be kept on a tight leash. But no, you'll constantly see random Nuhns walking around and flirting with anything on two legs, acting like they're the bees knees.

As someone trying to get back into RP after being distracted for a long while by real life stuff and then leveling all the classes to 50, I understand feeling frustrated by insular groups and cliques. Even in my current FC with friends I find it difficult to inject my character into ongoing plots or situations with people I barely know. Not to say anyone is to blame for this but myself, I'm just not sure how to get past it.
-
It's also rather unacceptable that the only way to really make a new character on Balmung is to destroy one's sleep for a night. ; Make your alt on another server if it's too hard for you. There are small RP communities on servers besides Gilgamesh and Balmung, and while I think SE's server infrastructure is inadequate they have to do something to keep everyone off of one megaserver while they come up with a real solution. The server is consistently open between 5-8AM EST during weekdays (most often on Wednesday/Thursday). If you can't wake up a few hours earlier than normal you obviously didn't want the alt that much anyway.

I got my friend on the server this morning around 6AM EST. It's definitely doable.

1. Has technology ever actually been called Machina in-game or are you just lifting this from FFX? I did a quick google and the only website to even use the word in relation to ARR is a fan wiki, and only that one wiki. I thought technology (specifically technology of Garlean origin) was collectively referred to as Magitek in this setting. 2. I had assumed Ceruleum was not aether condensed into crystal form, but the opposite, aether extracted from crystals and condensed/processe/refined into a more useable form (I figured it was a sort of powder). 3. Other than that, I don't really understand where you or Titor are getting the 'aetheric geometry' or 'programming' ideas. It feels like you guys are trying to make something complex out of something simple. Aether is the life energy of the world and all the living things on it, when you die your aether returns to the planet and any excess remains to become crystals/mist/whatever, crystals and random environmental concentrations of aether are absorbed/used by magic/technology and the cycle continues.
