  1. Well my highest level class is monk and i have someone thought of a "lore" for the classes that i will use and level. Personality wise my character has a calm temperment but easily excitable when it comes to things he is passionate about this being Wildlife(both plants and animals), and what can stem from those (culinary and alchemy classes) . With this in my he tends to come and go at will though will always be around for those who need him. Dislikes arrogant people and overly complicated things. to him both Seem to taint the air around him which is highly repugnant to him. This is the kinda stuff i have in mind what do i need to work on? Sounds like some type of nature themed FC where you could hunt and gather would be one idea. You can talk with Kasi and see if shroud life would be a good fit for you. Being a cook or alchemist I think would also fit in as a trader or skilled craftsman where you could make some RP connections trading (There is a bazaar event that might be to your liking, Sea Breeze Bazaar IIRC). Ultimately that is a very flexible background and I think you will be able to find success in any free company or LS that sounds good to you.
  2. Hey Liliro I am not sure if you are just looking for criminals to work with or if you are open to something a little more adversarial. My character is pretty much the opposite of what you are looking for and actively hunts down thieves and other ne'er do wells. Kasi calls her a goodie two shoes, but I think we could work together to come up with something fun for both of us. She is one of the founding members of a group of volunteer knights who responds to requests for help from NPC or PC characters. Perhaps she would be looking into retrieving something your group has stolen? Or maybe the Protectors make a good target for your thieves to prove themselves? Maybe one of your thieves is drawing a few too many complaints and we need to turn the pressure up? If you are interested let me know and we can discuss further over discord/PM/tells.
  3. Hello and welcome to Balmung and the RPC! If you can tell us a little bit about what you have in mind for your character we can probably give you some recommendations for some LS or FC's that would fit your character or style well. Other than that it would be just looking over all the listings and there can be quite a few. Feel free to send me a tell for some RP if you see me around!
  4. Hello and welcome to the RPC! Hope your transfer goes smoothly!
  5. Hello and welcome to the RPC! Feel free to look me up for some RP or some OOC psychology discussion!
  6. Hello and welcome to the RPC! It can be intimidating jumping in, but it is very rewarding when you find some great people to RP with. If you are shy about reaching out and doing walk ups, you can always set up a time with people on the forum to meet up and RP. Glad to hear that you also like spending time at the Canopy in Gridania, that is one of my favorite spots to be. Feel free to send me a tell if you see me online and are looking for someone to RP with. If I see you hanging out at the canopy I will be sure to drop by that way you don't have to feel shy about reaching out too.
  7. As other have said so far with Balmung being as congested as it is server transfers are also being blocked at the moment of this post (I have a friend that has to wait, so in the meantime they are getting through the story, learning their class and just taking their time). This part can be a bit daunting but I recommend taking it all in slowly, learn about crafting, learn about combat, Getting your Mount, doing Dungeons and the works. Once transfers are allowed again and you thoroughly enjoying yourself I would then recommend Balmung. The Community here is most welcoming and they have been since the game relaunched (I have no prior experience of what it was like before hand). I wish you a warm welcome though and hope you the fairest of journey's. Enjoy the ride, and I'm certain this game will be with you for a long while. Can you verify this? Although it says transfers to Balmung aren't allowed, you can indeed initiate and complete them last I checked a few months back (for the $18). The SE site discription for transfers is erroneous. Balmung's currently selectable. There have been short instances where even server transfers were blocked, but I think those are usually due to maintenance windows as opposed to actual capacity. (For now) There ya go! I wasn't certain myself and wasn't going to say it was indefinitely closed. Thank you for the clarification. Silly Square Enix and their rather odd way of addressing an issue. Hello and welcome to the RPC! Always good to have another tabletop GM/player join us! Feel free to send me a tell sometime and we can discuss how you GM your in game events from WoW and GW2. I am always looking for new approaches or ways to handle in game events. My transfer to Balmung was the same situation, it stated transfers were closed but there was no restrictions when I actually purchased the transfer.
  8. That's not exactly what I'd meant - when I started FFXIV, I'd played the game as, well, a game. Leveling up classes, spending hours a day crafting or gathering, those were (and still are) enjoyable ways to wind down, and that's what I used the game for, but the more I played the more I got into the head of what I imagined my character to be like, but unfortunately I really never actually put any effort into making the roleplaying side of the game a focus. When I did end up dropping the game, it was mainly because I couldn't afford it at the time, and I didn't pick it back up because I got hooked on other games in the meantime. In fact, I feel like the fact that I never put in the effort to try to roleplay more often is what's really getting me to want to play the game again, starting from a fresh character if need be. That being said, that is some good advice, and I'm still debating exactly what I want to do from a roleplaying standpoint, at least "mechanically". At the core, I want to be able to live life in the game as my character, rather than do what I'd been doing where I basically roleplay as though my character is the one playing the video game, if that makes any sense. The best example was one time when my friends were having an engagement party for two characters on one of their FCs, and my character got a huge crush on another character, to the point where I was getting flustered over it outside of the game. Everything else is more about the hows rather than the whys, but they're still important, and the more I look at things, the more I'm realizing there's a lot to consider. Do I want to start a new in-game character and experience the story of a fresh adventurer trying to find her place in the world she recently thrust herself into? Or do I want to stay as my currently established character, already a fairly seasoned adventurer, and have her story start when she finds a new guild? How much of the game story do I want to have incorporated into my character's story? Do I want to rename her so that her name fits proper Lalafell naming conventions? A lot of little questions like that are springing up at the moment and while I wish I could just make an alt on another server real quick to test the waters and see what I like, the wait for a good time to make an alt or the 18 dollar transfer fee is really making me need to try to establish what I want from a roleplaying perspective before I start sinking too much time or effort in the wrong direction. I might try doing some roleplaying here on the forums first to get more of a feel of where I stand, at least for how canon the game story is to my character. I'm not sure where I'd post a basic character bio or if I could just start a non-canon IC thread in the Town Square or something, but thanks for all the kind words and support so far! I'm definitely looking forward to diving straight into whatever it is I do decide upon. I think I might have misunderstood then. I am glad to see that you still found it helpful. There is a lot to consider when designing your character, but it seems like you are asking the right kinds of questions. You can always post in the character workshop for working out those details as well.
  9. That would be great! I'll try my best to remember to add you this evening when I got home from work! I need to do more research on Elezen and their culture/how they react to the world around them, but more connections the better I think! Saraune is definitely of the mind that 'it takes all kinds to make the world go round'. After all, more connections means she will learn more! I really appreciate you saying hi and offering to help! Not a problem at all. One other tip, I picked this up from Kasi actually and it has been very helpful for me, is to make a small spreadsheet to keep track of your RP connections and who you have met with or who you are still trying to meet with. I just list a character name, where I met them or the outreach source, and some notes about there character that I can build from the next time we run into each other. It keeps me consistent and makes sure that I don't forget to reach out to so and so from the forums or discord or w/e. If you are interested in the Elezen approach, my FC has a fantastic Elezen conjurer scholar that I could put you in touch with her to see how she handles that. That is such an amazing idea!!!! I'll definitely have to do that, I feel like where I'm not associated with any FC right now I will probably end up meeting a number of people and getting confused on who's who. I'm also trying to figure out how to balance rp with standard in game mechanics. Like I know I need to focus on crafting to help clear my bags, but if someone who recognized me from a previous rp and came to chat while I was working on said skills, I wouldn't know how to handle it haha. That would be awesome if you could get us in touch, I see so few Elezen and I don't understand why RP and content progression will almost always be competing for your valuable gaming time. Generally I log on and if I don't have any immediate RP or events going on I will jump into my roulettes or progress content. Sometimes you feel like doing one and not the other and you can just do as you please. A lot of invites you get will be from tells and I try to never tell people no (especially for first time character meet ups) but you can usually just let them know you are working on something and schedule a time to RP. The game also has an indicator flag for "RP" when you want to engage and have walk ups. Usually if somebody is just crafting and not actively engaging in RP they wont be bothered without a flag up. If its somebody you know, they will likely send you a tell first. Just like anything else, good communication with your RP partners and whatever norm you establish will be how you handle it. If you are concerned with just clearing space on your retainers, you could always just sell your crafting mats on the market to spend that money on some RP outfits. Don't feel like you have to jump into an FC right away either. I would recommend checking into some ones that sound interesting to you or get some word of mouth recommendations from your RP partners. That way you are likely to find something that will be a good fit for you and your style.

  11. Hi there and welcome! I am sure whatever server you end up on you can find a roleplaying community that can give you what you are looking for. I think Balmung or Gilgamesh are probably going to give you the best odds of success though. One thing you mentioned in your post caught my attention...You mentioned you are really looking for something to progress with. I would really try to narrow down how you are looking for your character to progress and what goals you have for them so that you can tailor your RP to that. As it sounds like you are coming back after getting burnt out on FF14 in the past. I think that would help keep you engaged more and give you more of that feeling of being connected with your character like you had mentioned. Hopefully that makes sense . If not feel free to ask any questions you might have.
  12. Hello and welcome back! If you ever find yourself stuck in your wiki writing, I have found it particularly helpful to bounce my character off of a couple others during RP. I find that really inspires me and generates some interesting moral or practical quandaries that you can analyze through the lens of your character. All of which plugs directly into the wiki (when the lazy of us get around to updating it haha)
  13. That sounds like a great start to me! We can always use more good guys in RP, I see enough dark knights and evildoers as it is running around and causing havoc. There should be a lot of good connections in that character background for you to branch off of. Possibly joining a holy order or churches would be a good first step. You can check out Hydaelyn Protectors in my signature if you are interested as well. Even without a wiki it can be helpful for people to know a bit about your character so they offer a good jumping off point into the community. Starting out can be a bit tricky if you don't know where to look. Feel free to send me a tell in game if you would like to RP sometime or just want to kick around some character or backstory ideas. I love to do character brainstorming.
  14. Hello and welcome to the RPC! Glad to see more table top RP'ers are joining the party. I think those skills will serve you very well in your time in Eorzea. I wouldn't worry about being too rusty and just jump right in with your friends and any of your other connections. If you are doing something blatantly wrong in RP or with lore, someone will give you some feedback that you can choose to incorporate or not. Otherwise the RP community is very friendly and tolerant of new RP'ers. If you are still worried about it and want a low key atmosphere to practice or observe feel free to send me a tell and we can meet up sometime. Or even if you just want another connection feel free to say hi!
  15. Hello and welcome to the RPC! Would love to hear a little about your character and what concept you chose for them.
  16. There was enough interest that I went ahead and threw together a Linkshell Hydaelyn Protectors for anyone interested (We also have a discord server for RP coordination). Troublemakers and Kasi beware haha
  17. "Calling all protectors of Eorzea! Unite for the greater good and volunteer to serve and protect the populace of Hydaelyn. We are looking for all knights, paladins, champions of justice, and protectors of friend and family!" Hydaelyn Protectors is a loose order of volunteer knights working together to defend the citizens of all nations from the unsavory thugs, slavers, and oppressors that live among us. Characters who wish to volunteer with the Protectors can look forward to working in groups with other Protectors out on patrols or raids against strongholds of villainy. Martial training and tournaments with some of the finest trainers in the land. Investigating community requests for assistance and rendering help where possible. We also focus on chocobo mounted combat and riding. Interested characters can find an advertisement posted in all major cities on the job boards directing them to our headquarters below or to send correspondence to Deahfel Pharasma or Faelette Auberlaint. Once interest is expressed one can expect to meet IC for a brief meeting and a swearing of their Oath of Protection. To submit a request for IC Hydaelyn Protector assistance please send Deahfel Pharasma or Faelette Auberlaint a tell. You can also stop by our Protector headquarters in the Goblet Ward 3, Plot 58. Rules: Your character must be of a somewhat lawful good orientation and have a desire to help and protect others. Come as you are. We are a loose affiliation of knights working together from different backgrounds. Whether you fight for a personal code or the command of a deity. As long as you are using it to help people you will be at home among us. You must uphold your Oath of Protection as your character would interpret it while working on behalf of the Protectors. This LS is a good fit for characters who are: Protectors, Knights, Paladins, Cavaliers, Squires, Honor Bound Warriors. Crafters/Traders who would keep the Protectors well prepared (Armorers, Apothecaries, etc). Chocobo Centric characters who work closely, train, or rear chocobos. If you don't fall into one of these categories but this sounds interesting to you send us a tell or post below and tell us more! We are also recruiting information brokers/gatherers who are reputeable and would ally with the Protectors Events We normally host weekly scheduled events that are posted in our discord server (found HERE )and it is strongly encouraged to join that to stay up to date with our plots. We also coordinate a lot of impromptu meet ups and RP run ins. You never know when bad things are going to happen so we use that to respond quickly to IC requests for aid. Our events are driven by all characters (even our villains!) in the linkshell and you are free to submit your own and get the Protectors involved in your own plots as well. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/images/8/8e/Chocobo_Knight.png[/img]
  18. I think your character would get along great with Deahfel. I will add you on discord when I get home and we can discuss. Feel free to give my wiki a look and we can see how our characters mesh. She loves chocobo's and would not mind taking those out for a trip. She also has no magical talent and has looked at supplementing that flaw with magitek. If anyone else is interested we could even look at starting some kind of protectorate/order of knights linkshell where we go out on patrols or respond to complaints filed with us. As I think that could be a popular character archetype that would be easy enough for us to band together for the greater good. Just brainstorming
  19. It is 3 days IRL not played game time. What a lot of people do is create all of their wanted RP characters on one server and then transfer them all over in one shot so they don't have to pay the transfer fee for each new character you would want. Feel free to check out the quicksand in Ul Dah for some observation. I found it really challenging at first because there are so many disjointed conversations and emotes going off that I couldn't keep track of anything. I ended up reaching out to some people on here to get my feet wet and just let them know I was new and asked for feedback. You could also try some of the smaller events or lower key RP spots(Most in game taverns). The primers on the RPC are pretty solidly written and should be enough to get started. I would be glad to help out in a casual/no pressure setting (that's how most of the RP events I have been in have felt). I don't think that many of the community is going to come down on you too hard being new to RP.
  20. Yay another DnD/Pathfinder RP'er! I would recommend transferring over as soon as you can. That way you can jump right into this wonderful community and start getting your feet wet with RP'ing. Just like with anything else the best experience you are going to get is putting yourself out there and trying it for yourself. If you are ever looking for someone to RP with or just want to hang out feel free to send me a tell when you get over to Balmung. I am normally hanging out in the Gridania inn, and I could point you towards some more serious plot people when you feel like you are ready for that.
  21. Hi Zala and welcome! As everyone else mentioned, definitely get out and go to different events and see which communities you enjoy. Don't feel like you have to jump into an FC immediately as you are still finding your style. If you are ever looking for someone to RP with feel free to shoot me a tell or stop by the Gridania Inn to say hi! I do both social and plot driven RP so just let me know
  22. Hi Asha and welcome! Feel free to send me a tell if you are looking for some RP or just another acquaintance to visit with. Deah is often hanging out at the Gridania inn so feel free to drop in or say hi sometime.
  23. Thanks Kasi and Syranelle for all the info, that was exactly what I was looking for. I am tasked with hosting our first scheduled event in the plot this Sunday so these tips will definitely get some use. I will definitely have to go exploring some more to get a better understanding of the location and any specific FATE challenges that might occur (that would be pretty immersion breaking). This plot is definitely on the shorter end, at least initially and is more in scope to a module than a campaign if that makes sense. I like your quote about not stepping on the lore and since I am still getting up to speed on that I plan to interrupt the world as little as possible by playing in areas that shouldn't have lore expectations too built in. My FC is relatively small atm and attendance fluctuates pretty wildly, so I will plan for a group of 4 and if anyone else shows up I will have some backup stuff prepped for scaling. Whispering and the hidden information is exactly what I had in mind for sharing results of "checks" so that way they can choose what information becomes public and in what manner. Thank you guys again soo much this was exactly what I needed to solidify my prep!
