There are greener pastures. It's all up to y'all to go find 'em. SE has an obsession with controlling every twitch your character may want to make, though. I don't think they know the meaning of "keep it simple, stupid", much less have any familiarity with the design concept that you should let your players have as much free reign as possible. Good thing the RP in this universe is so engaging, I suppose.

It's very much a collaborative effort for me. I never really have any sort of... end point in mind for a character. My friends and I just kind of craft stuff mostly organically, sometimes deliberately creating characters to fit an idea building between us and sometimes just kinda throwing stuff until it sticks. I don't really have "Character X's Plot"; it's "our story", which makes sense to me, because if I wanted to just write a story about my character... well, why roleplay? We have plots, to be sure, but they're all interconnected and could bend at any moment depending on character actions.

They look so sparkly!

Well, in real life, you don't give the sellers money and then ALSO have to pay for the house... The paying for the house is what you do when you give the sellers their money. But then XIV's whole housing system is f'ed up so, whatevs. I don't really see how it's "giving away" when the person leaving the house already intends to leave it and the person buying the house has to buy it from the game anyway (not you).

I talk with my friends about what's going on with our characters' stories and work together to try and breathe some life into the waning character. Oftentimes they're quite helpful in pinpointing what my "problem" is and/or coming up with solutions. Sometimes it helps to draw them. I also spend a lot of time laying in bed before falling asleep thinking about "what if" scenarios, that helps keep things lively.

I tried both elezen and midlander before finally settling on miqo'te for my main, Antimony. Mainly, I was just trying to find a character who struck me as fitting the very loose character concept I had for her at the time (middle aged widow/mother, intellectual). I was going to go with elezen (Duskwight, in particular) initially because I was drawn to the elves, but the lack of hairstyles that complemented their body structure annoyed me too much. Then I tried midlander, but the look was just too generic. Then I found a particular Seeker miqo'te face and hairstyle and it was just, "Yep, that's it." Once she had some round wire-frames on her, she looked even more the part and I was sold completely.

PMs here would be best, as I no longer actively play the game. I'm just here for the rp!

Hey there! Oh goodie, as the founder of the player-created Hipparion tribe, I suppose I'm at least almost qualified to answer these questions. 1. It is 100% fine to ignore the lore in the Hipparion tribe wiki page. When I wrote it (with the occasional help of the other player members of the tribe), I never intended it to be the be all-end all of K tribe lore. It represents only a single branch of the Hipparion miqo'te tribe. As per miqo'te lore, it's quite common for any given tribe to have multiple territories (branches) consisting of isolated family groups that may or may not have interacted with each other in quite some time. So if you wanted to roleplay a miqo'te of the Hipparion tribe but didn't want to follow some of the lore on the page... totally okay! You'd just be from a different branch. 2. Which leads me to my response to your second question. Personally, I would really, really appreciate it if you did not edit the page unless it was to add section describing a separate branch of the tribe. All the lore currently there was crafted to describe a very particular family group dwelling deep in the Sagolii that was very specific to my character's RP backstory, and now the story of half a dozen other people's characters as well. So yeah, please no edits to it unless it's to add a section. I think a more useful alternative would be to somehow create... uh... branching pages? One labelled "Hipparion Tribe (Sagolii)" and the other "Hipparion Tribe (wherever you come from)", the latter of which you could edit freely. As for your last question, there is a Hipparion linkshell, but I'll be honest, only about three of us still play the game anymore. Our RP is mostly relegated to forum threads now. So while you're welcome to join it (and Clover, K'nahli, and Tahj would surely love to have you around to chat with), I can't in good faith call it an active linkshell. I hope that answers your questions! If you wanna bounce around ideas about weaving Hipparion tribe stuff together (it'd be cool, should you choose a different branch, if we could maybe work out how those two tribe groups split! ), I'm more than willing to do so!

Considering people's bodies contain aether (of varying amounts), and aether is used in magic, it seems reasonable for a magical spell to be crafted to prevent pregnancy, though that certainly places all responsibility on its success on the magical skill of the user. One little mistake and you're effed. It's a tactic my partner and I used with two characters in TERA rp. The caveat was it had to be cast a time before, which accidentally led to OOCly unintentionally forgetting it once, which... well! I like all the other alchemical suggestions in here, as well. Not sure I buy into alchemy = pharmaceuticals, though; it's a completely different brand of medicine involving herbal extracts and magic.

I just want to drop in and encourage you, if it is what you so wish, to build freely your own Antelope tribe lore! Crafting the story around the K tribe has actually been one of my favorite parts of roleplaying in this game. If you want to bat around ideas, please feel free to share.

The thing is, this just makes no geographical, ecological, or geological sense whatsoever. There is no possible way Eastern Thanalan is 1-2 miles traversed while managing to maintain a distinct geography, support several herds of large, grazing mammals, and maintain its own weather patterns.
-
Personally, I try to be as realistic as possible with travel times, taking into account terrain and need for rest and... yes, the probable size of Eorzea. It's generally safe to assume that MMO worlds are actually larger than how they appear in-game, so my friends and I sat around and brainstormed what would be a reasonable time to travel a particular distance. We make sure we're consistent in RP and that's that. The general rule of thumb for us is it takes a couple days to travel across a zone, though that time could shorten significantly depending on the path taken and means of transport. If a character has enough aether reserves to make use of aetheryte travel, then of course moving around is a lot faster, but we know according to lore that such a thing is not common. That said, we know it's kind of impossible to get roleplayers to agree on things, so I don't get fussed with whatever times other people use.

Hey now! Some of us know exactly what that title means and chose it deliberately for a character. Don't wince! Anyway, I always love reading about the history behind people's choices in names. Elezen names are some of my favorite... they're always so lyrical. My own characters' names are not all that interesting history-wise. With Antimony Jhanhi, I had her first name in mind before I'd even decided on a race to be. I cycled through a bunch of different iterations, trying to find a race where I could obtain the most believable "middle aged mother" look, and of course ended up with a Seeker miqo'te. "Antimony" is a name that's followed me around for many, many games, so I was loathe to give it up. The first Antimony was a bank alt in WoW who eventually became my raiding main and who got her name because I wanted something nerdy to represent a character who's entire purpose was economics. "Antimony" obviously didn't fit with the Seeker naming system in XIV, though, thus I crafted a backstory that involved her leaving her tribe and adopting a new name. Her original name was actually inspired by the naming scheme for dolphins in David Brin's novel "Startide Rising." I liked the phonetics used there and fiddled with them to fit it into a lore-appropriate miqo'te name - thus, K'piru. The surname just came from a mash of syllables in my head. My occasionally roleplayed elder Seeker K'deiki got her name similarly inspired from Startide Rising patterns. K'thalen's name is nothing special - just syllables that I liked the sound of, plus the K prefix, which was requisite. It wasn't until later that I found it shortened into the very appropriate "Thal" for roleplay purposes. x3
-
K'deiki chuckled low, coughed wetly, and then went quiet for the moment.
-
K'deiki relaxed, her frail body sinking impossibly further into her colorful wraps, and turned her eye to the vague shifts in tone that marked where the coals K'ile set stirred to flame. "K'zhuzu... we mourned his loss long ago, but it is good to have a piece of him back. K'takka will come around to it." Her head dropped forward then, and she went quiet enough that it almost seemed as though she'd fallen suddenly asleep. A thin, grey tail shifted beneath her wraps. "Learn all you can, child. From our ambitious Tia. From the huntresses. From the Nunh. Heh, and of course from your Elders. Would you like to be K'xhali?"
-
The Elder wheezed out a chuckle, one hand moving to her chest. "Then what better time to learn than now," she spoke after a moment of recovery, her smile exaggerated by the loose, mottled wrinkles on her face. Milky eyes crinkled, apparently amused by the whole thing. "K'ile Tia supposes to challenge our Nunh for his position. It is quite a momentous occasion. This feast," she gestured with the withered hand not pressed to her chest, fingers almost hidden completely by the folds of her wraps, "will mark its initiation. Any man who wishes to rear children should be able to provide for them, after all."
-
The old woman, once one of the proudest huntresses to lead their family's hunts, was not too proud to accept water from a well-meaning Tia. She drank from the pouch unsteadily, tremors and arthritic joints keeping her grip on it from staying secure, and smelled the half-Keeper's arrival before he spoke. Setting the pouch down in her lap, K'deiki cast a knowing look towards K'ile's scent, but spoke to the younger newcomer, "Showing my years, I fear, child. Do you know you are taking part in a time-honored tradition of our family?"
-
"K'yohko is a strong man. It would take much to defeat him," K'deiki wheezed, her suddenly somber tone broken by a hacking cough that shook her shrunken, hunched form for several moments.
-
The Elder hummed, the lines shaping her face creasing into more varied canyons and valleys as she smiled in entertainment. "A feast deserving of their future," she rasped, referring to the children they'd spoke of moments prior though not explicitly specifying. "That is all that is needed. And, of course, the challenge." The coals caught her clouded eyes, giving them a bit of the spark they may have once held.
-
K'deiki laughed. The chuckle lasted only a few moments, sounding from deep within the cloth that swaddled her body, and then it broke with a cough. When the old woman recovered, she turned her face towards the Tia though she could only barely make out his silhouette. "Do not think me so far gone as to lose track of words like that, K'ile Tia." She spoke his title without any mockery, rather with a solemn understanding. "A huntress's sharp mind fades only with her last breath, after all." Thin, grey hair woven in braids and beads shifted as the Elder shook her head. "No, I know very well what you do. Will it be a good feast?"
-
When her withered limbs were finally folded beneath her, K'deiki set her walking stick upon the ground to one side and folded her hands in her lap. Her lungs wheezed for breath for several moments before she quieted and straightened as much as her arthritic spine allowed. Milky eyes watched the vague glow of embers, and the wrinkles that drew winding canyons across her face deepened with a secret smile, as though she were holding in some kind of joke. "The whispers on the wind speak of constant water a short time south. That is a very generous gift from our Warden," her voice came thin and raspy. "We must take care not to spoil it, but... She cannot shame us for taking some enjoyment from it, I think. The young ones least of all." Still that secret smile remained.
-
"Suffer me to rest my weary bones under the open sky for a time," the Elder replied with some humor, shuffling forward before very slowly beginning the painful effort to lower herself to the ground, near the fire.
-
K'deiki had returned to the Elders' tent for only a short time, long enough to conclude their prayers and finish arranging their belongings. The actions were as familiar as breathing to the Elders, and to K'deiki, like to all of them, this was a great comfort. Rather than linger further in the sanctuary of their tent, however, the old, withered woman left K'takka and K'jhanhi to their quiet and ventured beyond the drake-hide walls. Her old ears could not pick out sounds as they once had, and her eyesight made the waning twilight a wash of shapeless grey, but her old nose had not yet failed her. She smelled the leaving of the huntresses and, leaning heavily on her walking stick, sent them one last, silent prayer for success. A few family who remained behind cast respectful, if perhaps concerned, glances her way before continuing about their business. Then she smelled the smoke of a renewed fire, and the old woman began to walk. The colorful cloth that wrapped her hunched body shifted over a far different ground, her feet settling against firmer dirt than the dunes of the Sagolii. Her nose led her between a number of tents that stood as only darker shadows against a vague, grey space. She trusted her remaining sense, her feet, and the stick that kept her upright to take her where she sought to go. The Tia's scent became more noticeable when she neared the fire, along with the sharp, dry smell of salted meat. She paused, body curving forward as she worked to catch her breath and strength, and then finally spoke, "Twice now you have sought to teach our young new things." Her thin voice ended in a thick cough.

I have a couple names I tend to reuse from MMO to MMO, but then I invariably make more alts and thus come up with new names as well. And... yeah, it's a challenge. I utilize any patterns found in lore, a healthy dose of baby name websites, and The Google. I really like morphing scientific terms or names into character names and often browse through classification lists of organisms to find cool-sounding or thematically appropriate (given the organism) names.

If another character learned a secret about you...

I have zero issue with it.
