  1. Here is a dubstep playlist i put together on YouTube. Dunno who out there likes dubstep.. But hey, I suppose I will find out soon. Spent a few hours a while ago putting this together and it resulted in a 140~ song, 10 hour playlist. Put that thing on shuffle and never worry about hitting the same song over again. If you enjoy it, let me know! Maybe it will keep you busy or distracted until phase 4 comes out. Anything to keep me from realizing the withdrawal. Must. Have. FF. :frustrated: Also, if you don't like Dubstep.. What kind of music do you like?!
  2. Welcome! I'm sure your character will turn out great And if you need any help with anything, especially character development, let us know! I know a few links and such that might help if you're interested. http://rpg.ashami.com/ http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2688 Both really help when it comes to fleshing out your character. But yeah, let us know if you need anything. We would be glad to help!
  3. Scary movies? Pulse. DEFINITELY pulse. You will never look at a dryer the same way again. I promise. No scary movies? A Knights Tale is a pretty good/funny movie. I could list more, but eh.
  4. ^ this. >_> Minus the crush part. Oh, is that why you voted for the Hyur version of Felix instead of Miqo'te? > Biased. Role playing the traditional, typical Hyur/human is more unique since a lot of people are playing Miqo'te. If you wanna be around a lot of your own race, go Miqo. If not, go Hyur. I think Hyur look awesome, too.. So I guess I am as biased as Asyun. I'm manipulating the population because Midlanders are hot. I'M SORRY OHGOD. I have a problem.. I'll forgive you, this time. But Only because Aysun owns a tavern. Oh! Maybe Felix could play his pan pipe there sometime
  5. Then I think we should leave the discussion go there where it can have some kind of effect on Square's decision than be here. I, personally, along with a few others, do not think Hydaelyn is the appropriate place for a debate/discussion like this that we cannot directly effect or influence, or can we argue in one direction or the other because we lack sufficient knowledge as to how the marriage system even works to begin with. It has been months since we have received word from square, as far as my knowledge goes, as to what the marriage system will specifically do/be about. So talking about this here is pointless, and in my opinion jumping into it at all is. But that is me personally, I like tactical advances in terms of debate. I don't plan on placing an argument on it in any direction until I specifically know what the marriage system is like in ARR and I think a few others are in the same position.
  6. Clearly William Yeats does not know how to forge a sword. ^

  8. I live in western New York, does that count? I could throw a stick at Canada.
  9. Exactly. They aren't saying they are never going to do it, they are just being extremely cautious about it. If you can't or don't respect the caution they have then you need to remember that Japan isn't as progressive on this topic as the rest of the world. Will it happen? The answer is pretty much a yes, so just hang in their and relax everyone. Getting all riled up is only going to cause arguments and drama. Have some faith in Square, after all. If you can't have faith in the developers and that they will make the best choice for their players AND the games future concerning this, you should not be playing final fantasy XIV. Yay im not the only one with this perspective. I love this community and I love people in general. I don't want to see bad blood in the community because of a sensitive topic like this. Politics/Religion/etc. should generally be kept to one's self unless it is something positive or productive to talk about in a given situation. This is no different. Just like Ildur said, talking about this is on Hydaelyn is going to get us nowhere. Until Square is able to talk further about this system and how it works, there is no sense in stressing out and worrying about it. They have a game to release, and haven't set any light on this in a good while. For all we know, they already added same sex marriage into the system and have yet to announce it. Lets just see what happens.
  10. You might want to take note that using the united states as an example for a Japanese game is a bad idea. If the united states is considered conservative, then japan is considered ancient. They have 2000 years of cultural tradition and as of right now same sex marriage is against the law in Japan. You need to take note that a large part of their player base IS Japanese, and that they don't want to offend their own people by doing this, either. I'm not saying that this shouldn't be implemented, however. I do not want to see huge, sensitive debates starting and creating a rift in the community either. People supporting this should hang tight and be patient as I can guarantee it will be implemented in the neat future (Likely 2.1). Besides. Isn't marriage itself not getting implemented until 2.1 anyway?
  11. Although I do want to apologize if I offended anyone in the community by defending the FFXIV team/Yoshi P for their decision on this. I certainly did not mean to offend anyone, and I am keeping my personal views on this to myself as I strongly believe in people's natural right to live life they way they want. We all have choice. I only wanted to assure you guys that you don't have to worry. The new FFXIV team is good about listening to the community and I highly, highly doubt they will simply brush this under the rug, so to speak. Especially if there is going to be in-game bonus' for marriage. But yeah, there is a good chance to see this coming in. So don't worry! My apologies none the less. -Bows-
  12. Some might say they're..... Final fantasies? You just made my day. We should start a thread. One person says a sentence and the next person comes up with the corniest joke they possibly can off of one of the words from the sentence above. And just continue on.
  13. Exactly. This is always a very sensitive topic for many people who are both for and against it, and I can understand why. All I am trying to do is reassure everyone that it is no sweat. They did this decision because it is the best one they could make given the cards that they have been dealt. As I said before, hang tight. You guys will get what you want.
  14. You are forgetting the fact that large swaths of the playerbase not only support homosexuality, but are homosexuals who are married to their partners. It is untrue to say that the US is the only country that sees this as normal; many countries are far ahead of the US in respecting homosexual rights and see us as backwards. To those countries, Japan is downright primitive. Treating it as abnormal is an opinion and many people see that opinion as aberrant and divisive. Going ahead and implementing it with restrictions completely disregards the opinions, lifestyles and in many cases the actual irl status of those who are in favor of homosexual marriage. Which is why "putting off" that decision is in NO WAY neutral. If they do not implement same-sex marriage they are actively disallowing it. They are actively stating that the beliefs and lifestyles of many of their players are strange, unusual, and will not be accepted until divisive elements in the playerbase agree to it. Given the tone of a lot of their commentary, this seems to go completely against Yoshi's paradigm. They're afraid of the vote-kick function being used to troll. Their afraid of whispers in raids being used to say cruel things. They're afraid of people rolling need on things they don't need because it is rude. And then they turn around and actively speak down to a large element of their customers, as if there's something strange and unwanted about them. I think that is a little bit of an extreme way to say it. And I'll admit that the thing about the US was a bit of an uneducated exaggeration on my part. And I am not forgetting that some people are homosexual's married to their partners at all, actually. I have a friend that is(not married though) and will likely be playing ARR soon after release. However, I think it is more important to release their game and get it stabilized and some income flowing in before they can direct full and proper attention to it. It isn't like they are sitting there drinking beers, feet up on their desk talking about the weather. They are preparing a release of an MMO that pretty much crashed and burned because the last development team didn't listen to the player base telling them not to release the game because it wasn't ready. Do I think they will give the full attention this subject deserves and implement it in the near future, likely by 2.1? Absolutely. I wouldn't go as far to say that they are disregarding the opinions and life styles of their players by taking this course of action on a Video Game. I don't think anyone has to worry, though, honestly. There is pretty much a 99% chance this will get implemented in 2.1. Too many people support it for them to push it off any longer than that.
  15. Actually, I believe that Spain had homosexual marriages quite before the United States did ^^; You'd be surprised at the amount of countries that support it. Putting that aside, I did see Western people whine when Western Mabinogi announced that same-sex marriages would be allowed, so it's not a Japan only thing. The whole world is nuts. I have my own thoughts on the topic, but I don't think this is an appropriate place to discuss them personally, and I think everyone has the right to decide how they want to live their own life, too, so yeah. That set aside. Japan is VERY different from the united states. There is an amazing quote from the movie Emperor(2012) that explains this better than I could, but I couldn't find the exact quote, so this is from memory; In Japanese culture, on the surface they act like westerners, they are progressive, they blend in. However, it is a lie, a front. Underneath lies over 2000 years of tradition, beliefs and culture which is deeply rooted into the people and always will be. That said, Japan is known for being isolationism, and despite the appearance of being as progressive and forward moving as the rest of the world, they are DEEPLY rooted in where they came from. A large part of Yoshi P being cautious about this is likely because of that very thing. So while some might not agree with his decision, it is the most neutral route to take. Especially since it is not openly accepted in Japan, and it is a Japanese game(pretty much). However, I can see them adding it in sometime in the near future as lore supports it and a large amount of the player base either doesn't care, or supports it as well. So, I'd say don't worry or stress over it and hang tight I think it is reasonable to assume it will have something like that involved. As far as I am willing to speculate: Shared housing/items/banking/etc are all reasonable to expect.
  16. I disagree completely. The best course of action is to present marriage with no restrictions and treat it as completely normal. Don't make a fuss about it. Just do it. Nobody's going to seriously get in a tizzy over a lack of gender restrictions in marriage in a video game. The ones that do are generally groups that don't play video games anyway (like ultra conservative groups in NA - who, by the way, didn't kick up one bit of fuss with Rift, which is also a global game). Again, You are forgetting the fact that Japanese culture does not support homosexuality. A large part of their player base is Japanese. In fact the only country that supports it to a 'completely normal' level, or comes even close to that, is the United States. Treating it as completely normal is also an opinion. Some people view it as the complete opposite. Going ahead implementing it with no restrictions completely disregards the opinions of those who are against it. Which is why they have taken the neutral role of putting that discussion on hold and implementing opposite-sex marriage until they can get time to consult the player base to know what they want, as a whole. Yoshi P knows what he is doing. From a business standpoint it makes 0 sense to put any effort into this subject on a video game until they solidify their game and get it released. The fact that they are putting the decision on whether or not to implement same sex marriage on hold is a perfect example that they respect all of their players, not just those who want to see this passed into their game. Call it overly cautious, maybe that's all it is, but I still think it is a smart decision. Anyone who wants to see this implemented, and i could be wrong, but I think they would likely be willing to wait and support it when Square brings the topic up.
  17. When Rift implemented its marriage system, it came out of the gate with zero restrictions on who you could marry. Squee seems to be of the mind that putting a marriage system in place with no gender restrictions will somehow offend people, but honestly? No one raged at Trion when they did it - and in fact, it was celebrated. The most news-worthy part of Rift's marriage system was the world record they set for most online marriages in a single day (which I happily took part in!). So yeah, to answer the question: No, Squee is not going to be allowing same sex marriages in ARR. Is it absolutely, utterly stupid? Yes. But there it is. You need to remember that the United States is FAR ahead of other countries in terms of accepting homosexuality. Japanese society, as far as what I can tell off of other threads/sites that have talked about this topic, does not accept it as openly. This game is world-wide and thus they need to take into account the customs and socially accepted ways of each country their game goes into. Let's say for example(this is hypothetical) Germany was extremely against homosexuality. If they released that on the game, it -could- offend a large part part of the German player base. The chance of offending people is relatively low, but square enix seems to be concerned with -all- of their players, not just the majority. At this point in time they have far more important things to handle than dealing with such a controversial topic, and so the safest thing to do is exactly what they will be doing. It is better to not release it initially and then add it in upon majority player-base request than to add it in and offend some of your players. I applaud them for their caution about it, because it -is- sensitive to some people, and while I won't argue in either direction for it, I think their decision is appropriate considering the struggles that FFXIV has gone through and the effort they have put into reviving this game into something as amazing as it now is. Also, a large majority of the player base that wants it added, or would argue against it, would likely be Role Players, which is usually the smallest community in an MMO in comparison to PvE and PvP players. So, with all that said, I'd say lets sit back and enjoy the game and not get wrapped up in such a controversial topic about a small addition they added into the game. Eventually it will, or will not, be changed based upon the responses they get from the community. They have pretty much promised that.
  18. I am definitely going to look into tarot more. Not sure how this will go and I have no promises, but I was thinking something along the line of guild leve cards being used basically. Ones that aren't a job, obviously. Perhaps we could tie it into bards and that it is an old tradition or something that bards pass down? Who knows. I don't know a bunch of the final fantasy lore but I am going to do some research if the tarot thing works out and see how I can write it into the lore without meta-gaming/god-modding. I want it to fit into lore, not write over something else or add to stories where it wouldn't work. So I might need some lore experts to help with that one.
  19. Rotating candy canes, definitely. That little sign is so deceiving. That is how they used to trick kids into getting their hair cut, I bet. "Here, look johnny! It's a candy store, lets go in!" "Really mom?! :bouncy:" "Yeah! -leads into building-" "-Horrible old barber man gases kid-" "-Kid wakes up strapped down in chair and forced to receive a haircut-" "-Mom gets what mom wants-" And thus, the twirling candy cane became a staple to barber shops.
  20. I don't see how OOC communication "kills" any part of the idea. We expect OOC communication for tons of other things, even simple things like "Hey, mind if I interject my character to this scene?" Yeah, I really don't see the problem. OOC communication is vital in roleplay, and it's certainly not the same thing as meta-gaming (which applies knowledge you learned OOCly when that information wasn't given to you with the intent of you to use it). or god-moding. I meant that, as I stated in another post I think, It would be FAR more interesting, at least for me, if someone role playing a fortune teller gave my character a fortune and was accurate about it and never asked me anything OOCly than if he asked me OOCly about my character. Like I said, and forgive me if I mislead what I meant, as it is mostly a personal preference. I like seeing role play develop on its own. To watch role play flow naturally is very, very fun for me and gives me a sense that my character is actively alive. Do I coordinate oocly? Yes, when I need to. Basically, I consider my character his own person, and I try to avoid putting OOC coordination in that would change the flow of his life from the course that it would naturally take. Random role play is amazing. Lets say, someone role plays a thief. They wouldn't have to do some crazy coordination with me, meerly ask me for permission to try to steal from my character at most and I'd approve because drama can be good. That would be a natural flowing thing.. But.. For example, someone wants me to join their free company, I would have to coordinate an IC reason for my character to join it, which I dislike doing. I want Felix to make his own decisions, not me make them for him.
  21. Though I can do without the nasty attitudes, I do hope arenas (and PvP in general) in ARR becomes more than just a side-thought. I'd love to be able to sink my teeth into some serious, high-end, demanding PvP in ARR. I don't mind having a good pvp environment, but frankly. I would rather have no pvp in A realm reborn what-so-ever than to attract the WoW-mindset pvpers. I have boarder line post dramatic stress because of what I had to put up with in WoW when I was leading Rated Battlegrounds. If that "My rating is better than yours, you're garbage", "Yo your rating sucks", "You aren't even that good." kind of personality comes to Final Fantasy, I will be extremely upset, distraught even. I have very, -very- bad experiences with that kind of environment and it is part of the reason(along with the dying roleplay and over all poor direction the game is going imo) as to why I quit WoW. So.. Here is to hoping the PvP junkie arrogant "You're either the best or you're trash" mindset doesn't come to Final fantasy. Even with that said, I will still PvP and I love PvP. The competition is fun, but I want to see constructive people for once. If you beat someone, maybe offer them tips on how to get better or something. If you are a great pvper and better than most people you fight, don't be arrogant about it. Humble players gain so much more respect, they really do. Oh, and this isn't directed at you, Naunet, just the community in general and my random rantings. :dodgy:
  22. Maybe I will buy a deck of tarot cards and see how that turns out. I don't want it to be a major part of my character because then it wouldn't quite fit him, but since he is a very social person, outgoing and friendly and loves meeting new people and making friends, along with an aspiring bard, I can see him picking it up as a little hobby that he does for fun mostly. But like I said, I wouldn't do it unless I can actually do it effectively and accurately without having to coordinate OOCly, because then it will be the most interesting and fun for players having readings done, which is what I would be aiming for.
  23. Playing GW2, Ace of Spades, and old 64k emulators with a friend to keep me busy. I am going insane. My arms itch, and I need my fix. :bouncy: The only other MMO I'd look at is Elder Scrolls Online, which seems to be going in a pretty good direction as well. I've been an elder scrolls fan since the dawn of time, but I have always liked final fantasy as well. Although I know far less about the FF universe than the ES universe.
