  1. I know that is the best place. Like I said in my original post, my purpose of posting here is to rally together the role play community to get something like this passed. I cannot post on the beta forums until after beta phase 4 opens, but if everyone in the community knows about this and would also like it to be passed we would have a better chance of seeing it passed. Also, I'm not saying these emotes aren't in the game, I am saying they should last until cancled or until you move. Currently, if you do some of the emotes such as the ones I have listed, they end and your character goes back to the default standing position after a few seconds, about 10-15 depending on the emote.
  2. Okay, the reason I am posting here on the role play forums is to rally together the RP community and get everyone who agrees with this to post that they do on the beta forums so we can try to get square to implement this. What I am suggesting is that the emotes, for example: /dance /grovel /kneel /pray And so forth should last until you move or cancel it in some other form. I think it would be really cool to stay kneeling or groveling or so forth while doing certain role plays. Maybe your character is becoming a knight or being honored in some way and is kneeling for the ceremony? It would be a lot better if we didn't have to constantly /grovel or /kneel for the role play. I love the emotes that have been implemented and as a role player who is extremely dedicated to the games which I get into (I played and role played on WoW for seven years), I would very much like to see this happen and I am sure many of the role players in the community would agree. Thank you for all your support, and hopefully we can see this happen. If you are interested in supporting this and would like to see this get implemented as much as I would, please reply to this thread as well as post such on the beta forums. I'm not too good at navigating forum threats, especially the beta forums so I am quite unsure where I should go to start a suggestion thread on the beta forums. Currently the beta forums are closed except for the general discussion, but when phase 4 opens I will be posting a thread there and try to get support for it. I will also update this thread and let people know that it has been posted. Again, thanks everyone!
  3. YES! I have a Japanese Rosetta Stone..but I barely ever use it. I have all four levels too. I should really use it more often. It is hard to do when I have no one who knows Japanese to talk to. And I understand Japanese wayyyy better than I can speak it. Well, if anyone ever wants to if someone said "The policeman is eating" in Japanese...I'm the one to ask Although I have to say, I do find my ears perking up more and more often as I'm watching anime, as words are used that I actually recognize...must be doing something right  That is exactly how I feel

  5. Well... Here are all the questions, all answered in first person as if my character was being interviewed. Hope you all enjoy!
  6. Yeah my idea was mostly just a side-thought which was birthed from your idea. Either way.. I think it would be cool if we could gather together all of the stories people have so story tellers such as myself can tell those stories in role play. Are you talking mostly event-based stuff? So.. like gathers would go out and basically advertise that there is a story telling going on, and then story tellers would tell the story and the gathers would record the story as well? Sorry, sometimes I can be slow on the uptake. EDIT: Re-read your original post, must have missed the "OOC and stuff" part of it, I see what you mean now. It would be pretty cool to see that. Kind of like a Psychic fair kind of thing.. except for story telling. Well, I suppose psychics could be a form of that but you get my point
  7. Well I was thinking the gatherers would tell stories themselves so maybe create a sub forum that was stories sent to the gatherers instead of told to them? For storytellers I was thinking of purely that they would come up with their own stories or tell stories that they heard. I am glad this is getting so much interest and I really appreciate that people are taking to this idea. Yeah, the story-teller part is what my character would do.. But I don't think ICly he would join in on some kind of organization to do it, it would mostly be OOCly organized. I guess what I was thinking is that.. Okay. Think of all the stories we know IRL. Jack and Jill. The Gingerbread man. Maybe those are bad examples. Hansel and Gretel. You know what I am getting at. IRL we have stories we've heard about people, even if they aren't quite famous, that people tell stories about. Usually they are for kids, but I think if we made a sub-forum or forum thread for a collection of stories people could make up, that don't go against lore, story tellers or people planning on telling stories could use some in their roleplays. Maybe it would kinda be redundant, or maybe we should make it membership-based, so if you are a story teller you have access to the library of stories to use, that way the stories can't get ruined by reading them all on the thread before you hear them ICly. I think it would be really interesting if we could do this, or something like it. Although I suppose I am more attracted to an OOC organized effort rather than my character being a part of an unoffical "guild of storytellers" sort of thing. But then again, that could always change. Sorry if that was kinda wordy, sometimes I have trouble explaining whats running through this noggin' of mine. I suppose what I mean is all those "Brother's Grim" stories, King Arthur and the knights of the round table, Robin Hood. Stuff like that.. I think if we made new stories for Final Fantasy's universe, or at least lore-abiding or following to be semi-believable. Or maybe they could even be made up fantasy stories just for entertainment, but either way. If we had a huge library of stories like this written by other players that we could say our characters know ICly by being story tellers (we can think deeper for an IC reason as to how they came to knowledge of them if this idea takes), such as a forum or something that is need-to-know based, so only story-tellers could access the library, it would be amazing for us story tellers. I think if everyone can go see the stories it would ruin the chance for them to hear it ICly, and just as all telephone games go, our characters would be telling the story with their own 'voice', so that is where the different versions of the stories would come into play ( we all know how many different movies there are for King Arthur and Robin Hood).
  8. ^ My life. My entire mom's side of the family are all artists, some established some do it for fun.. So it is in my blood. I'm a perfectionist though so I never like anything that I draw But yes, anyone who has that talent to draw or paint certainly should be!.. Myself included
  9. What kind of dogs do you have? :surprise: I have a Border Collie and an Aussy. They are awesome, but my aussy is a pain in the butt still. I have one dog called Dagur and he is a Beegle.

  11. Beginning part sounds like me. I have a bad habit of not reading, it is hard to read walls of text, which is why when I type on the forums I usually type in broken paragraphs just because it is easier to read, at least, for me it is. But, I know what you mean. I am filling out his 100 questions in first person, as if my character was getting interviewed, then I am going to run through Ash's RPG character guide and I think by then I will have a solid background outlined that I could attempt to write. I'm not good at articulating myself outside of Roleplay, so maybe I will just write a first-person background, like a journal or something. We'll see I guess! When I come up with something, I'll be sure to post it so all of you guys can critique me !
  12. Like many role players and writers out there, I struggle with starting a good character background or history. Once I am going, I can usually flow and come up with a decent piece of work, but I thought I would turn to the community this time around and see what you more talented writers can give for advice! So, what is your advice on writing a character's history/background? Any tips? How in-depth? What perspective should I write it in? I know a lot of it is based upon personal preference, which is what I am asking for! What do you guys like? What sticks out the most, or what do you like to see, when you read another person's character history? Thank you all very much for the help!
  13. I never played FFXI, nor 1.0. So I am pretty new to the FF world in terms of MMOs.. Only other FF games I've played have been VIII and X. I've always loved the series though. So yay ARR!
  14. Just as the subject says.. I figured I would start a post to see what everyone is doing to distract themselves, or keep themselves busy as we all wait for phase 4 to get our next fix. Me? I'm playing Dead Island and watching some Anime... Although I have to say it isn't working very well! Phase four couldn't come any sooner! So, what are you all doing?! Post away! Edit: Not sure if this is the proper category for this or if it should be in off-topic discussion. If it is in the wrong place, feel free to move it and I apologize for the mistake!
  15. I love your signature! That quote is awesome I need to figure out something good for my character. Witty quotes aren't my strong point >.>
  16. Thank you everyone for all the work you put into this. It is always nice to have something to base your numbers off of. My character's height happened to fall right where I had expected, too. Yay!
  17. Role Playing, for me, is just like being an actor for a movie. The main difference is that you don't have a script. You become, or at least I do, one with your character. By that, your character is brought to life. It has it's own life, personality, emotions, ideals, likes and dislikes, and carries out his or her life as he or she desires. Scripted events in role play are usually events that players coordinate OOCly for more clarification and then play through along those rules or guide lines. For example: Two players could get together OOCly and say that they want to do a family role play together, so they would coordinate their backstories and characters history/personalities/ect to make that possible. Usually, from my personal experience, you don't literally read or type from a script. How you respond is often spur-of-the-moment unless your character has put more thought into his or her response. I suppose in summery I could say that Role playing is putting yourself into your character and giving it life. A lot of people role play characters that have different personalities from themselves, but to start it can sometimes be easier if your character has similarities to yourself. A few questions that might help breathe life into your character: "What would my character do in this given situation?" "What is my character's daily routine?" "What is my character's biggest fear?" "What is my character's biggest desire/goal?" Answering those questions can give you a general idea for your character. Once you have your character's personality, it is much easier to put yourself into the role and act it out. Role players are all actors! Sorry if that was wordy, I'm much better at articulating myself in Role Play than when I am out of character, ironically. If you need clarification, let me know!

  19. I'd reiterate what people have said already, although it is more of an assumption than a lore-backed conclusion, Bards would likely gain their powers from the same place White Mages or Conjurers gain their power from, which I am pretty sure is the elements. Correct me if I am wrong, though. Bards would use a form of elemental magic to empower their songs. I'd even go as far as saying that it is easier for a bard to harness elemental magic through song/music than to just straight out cast magic spells. This is all speculation, but as mechanically the class performs as a buffer class, and requires a 30 archer and 15 Conjurer to unlock the job of Bard to begin with, I think it is reasonable to attribute elemental magic to empower their songs. Some of you ladies and gents who know the lore better than myself can correct me if I am wrong.
  20. Bah, old pictures but hey why not! Here you go, HRC Community!
