Halp! How old should my characters be? :V

Recommended Posts

I haven't found specific anything.

The only things I know. From the Calamity to beginning of 2.0, it was 5 years.

From 2.55 to 3.0, it was just a few days to a couple of weeks.

Q: Story-wise how much time has passed since the end of Patch 2.55 and the beginning of Heavensward?

A: While there is no specific mention of how much time has passed in-game, it’s about a few days to a few weeks after the events that took place during Patch 2.55. You can think of this time as the time that passed while Haurchefant was speaking with the people of House Fortemps, and the expansion begins when the Warrior of Light’s entry to Ishgard has been approved, so it’s not like months have passed.

Further confirmation of the Time Bubble today:

Ever since the Bombards were beat back five years ago...

This of course is referencing the 1.0 (2012) Seasonal Event: Bombard Backlash, which took place in 1572 6AE, 5 years ago.

So even though in the text that follows, where Haermaga mentions your attendance to last year's Moonfire Faire (if you attended), the Calamity still only happened 5 years ago. So the bubble persists, officially.

Do note that this was probably done because this event is accessible even by 2.0 players. This does NOT mean that people caught up with current in-universe events are still stuck in time perpetually at "five years post-Calamity" even though people will read it that way.

Uh, I wouldn't say that with such certainty. I'm not sure what you mean by being "accessible even by 2.0 players" making any difference to the time bubble persisting. This event has happened last year for 1.0 and 2.0 players alike. Now, 3.0 players can play.

What one person has hypothesized to me in the official forums is that we're in the same 2.0 time bubble.

1.0's bubble was the year 1572.

5 years later we get 2.0.

The only thing I know for sure is that a few weeks or a few months have passed (usage for fortnight combined with the interview stating that only a couple of days or weeks passed from the end of 2.55 to start of 3.0).

The hypothesis is that we don't just have a new bubble for 3.0 but that the 2.0 time bubble has since expanded to include 3.0

It depends though. Season events are 2.0/3.0, which definitely puts us in a 2.0 time bubble there. (3.0 would have to be a subset)

But something locked to -just- 3.0 players, we'd have a more specific bubble of time. SE can afford to let writers delve into things that have happened then. ...they just might not bring up actual dates or lengths of time because of progression.

The hypothesis means that any event, not just seasonal but any, is just an event in the 2.0 bubble. What is being hypothesized is that there is no bubble for 3.0 and all the events for players with the expac are just things happening in the 2.0 bubble. It just keeps getting *included.

Anyone who has started FFXIV recently and is currently playing through 2.0 content will be able to access and participate in this event, provided they are the appropriate level to participate in the FATEs.

Players who have purchased and played through 3.0 content (Heavensward) are also able to access and participate in this event.

Consequently, references to time cannot include any deviation from "The Calamity was five years ago" that might arise, what with the end of 3.0 taking place a significant period of time after the start of 2.0.

If an event is inclusive of 2.0 players (by which I mean 2.0 as in 2.0, ARR content pre-2.1 patch, etc.) then for the sake of avoiding chronological incongruity, all references to dates must either be omitted or remain in keeping with the "Five Years Have Passed" fact that is repeatedly referenced in ARR.

Easily solved by flags, I'd assume... and yet there aren't any.

:o Gonna have to start callin' more than just older Lalas Aunt and Uncle.

Hm, this is confusing. I've seen blatant disregard for progression of time before but rarely oversights of this level. In King of Fighters, Athena is sixteen from 1995 to now, and Kyo is a 20 year old high school student. But the company itself pokes fun at this, so it's clear they simply didn't care.

The bubble is there because that's the design

A: Long ago, you mentioned that 1.0 took place in a “Simpsons Time Bubble.” Are we still in a bubble? Or does time move now that we know Patch = Canon?

KF: It’s still a bubble; you have to have a bubble. There are players joining in Heavensward that are starting at the beginning. The bubble’s just gotten bigger.
