Leukos Posted November 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) My Free Company has been on Balmung for five years now but we are primarily a PVE focused FC with a sizeable population of roleplayers. Because of the Datacenter reshuffle, we are looking to transfer to the Aether Datacenter in order to play with our friends in the statics we've been a part of through from the implementation of the Cross Realm Party Finder in Creator up through the entirety of Stormblood's raiding encounters. We hate having to choose between being able to continue roleplaying or to keep playing with the friends we've made for years so we're looking for a middle-ground where we can continue to raid with our Aether statics and have access to a roleplaying community - even if it's significantly smaller than Balmung. What are our options? In a Reddit comment I saw Jenova being mentioned but I wasn't able to see much more to corroborate that. Is anyone else in a similar spot as us? Iris Whiteillow Posted November 20, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2018 Gilgamesh has a fairly decent RP crowd. When our lockout hit us most fled to Mataus but many still stuck around so we aren’t as HUGE as Mataus or Balmung now. Currently the community is doing good with weekly activities and roleplay, as well as raiding end game content. There is a healthy balance between RP and Raid. Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted November 20, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 20, 2018 I know we've seen listings from Faerie, Jenova, and Siren, but I can't speak for how big they are. Gilgamesh was the secondary RP server at ARR launch, but after a few years, most transferred elsewhere. I'd peruse the Lodestone to check for common linkshell/fc names for a quick estimate of size/activity. Things like "RP" in the FC tag. Or "RP, Roleplay, Role-play, Role Play" in the names. Aliona Loyalar Posted November 20, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 20, 2018 Howdy there Leukos! Over on Jenova we do have a pretty strong RP community rollin' with various free companies and groups for many different RP styles and preferences! We've various linkshells and a community RP discord where we all meet up and coordinate/hang out among the community. We've some weekly RP events that was host as well as quite a few RP events that pop up! If you've any questions you're more than welcome to drop me a message here, in game at Aliona Loyalar or through discord, can DM my tag if you like! Link to comment
Leukos Posted November 20, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the replies! I suppose some followup questions are how and where are RP events coordinated on Gilgamesh and Jenova? Are there any RP haunts that people go to for walk-up RP? How active are these communities? Thanks for giving me some hope for my situation. Edited November 21, 2018 by Leukos Link to comment
Aliona Loyalar Posted November 21, 2018 Share #6 Posted November 21, 2018 There are a couple weekly events on Friday and Sunday nights at about 8pm EST/5pm PST on our company's side, The first being an Open House which you can think of as a casual bar and grill setting. The other being a Fight Night style event (non-lethal combat more or less) that uses a roll/emote system to play out the fights. There are also a few other weekly event's I believe other week nights, but i'd need to double check on those. As far as active RP hubs go, we don't quite have those as you would find on other servers, but among the community folks are pretty responsive to seeing a shout for some RP and picking a spot to head out to! Thanks for giving me some hope for my situation. On Gilgamesh we have a discord Hub. On there we have a calendar where most free companies post their on going events, along with dates and times, as well as reminders and advertisement. Currently we have some fight nights and bar nights going on, as well as a monthly shady market and ballad. December we will be holding a open world winter market event. These events typically help introduce new people to the Roleplay scene. Big events such as the winter market multiple FC’s have there hand in and people set up little IC booths and sell in game items and items for the purpose of roleplay. Usually when people want to roleplay or are in the mood for to do so, they let people known via the in game linkshell. From there there is often takers and once the Roleplay starts up others sometimes join in. Community wise the linkshells are often full of people from various FC’s and are usually chatty. Most people are active during late afternoon early evening Eastern Time. That said many members in the Roleplay community also focus on raiding, so roleplay is sometimes only done in their free time. Currently the coordinators are working on making more open world events for the community. The coordinators are all FC leaders working together for the community. If you would like a invite to the hub or have any questions you can always poke me in Discord at Iris Whitewillow#9718. I’ll be happy to answer any further questions there if I can’t check this right away Link to comment

While I've got your two's attention, are either of your servers' groups making use of google calendars? If so, we can get those imported onto the RPC, and @Erah'sae manages a nifty discord bot (currently for Balmung, but multi-datacenter/world details here: https://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/topic/21618-45-server-guesting-and-the-evolution-of-the-balmung-rp-calendar / ) which could be of use to you. As with any server, I'd also suggest getting some FC/LS Hall listings up, along with any event details here on the RPC forums. Help boost visibility in both directions. Link to comment
Aliona Loyalar Posted November 21, 2018 Share #9 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) Hey there @Unnamed Mercenary We've not used google Cal in a bit, but I can check in with folks and see about getting a new one booted up! I'm not sure what all LS/FC info may still be posted around here, but will be looking into an updated list to have on deck. Edited November 21, 2018 by Aliona Loyalar 1 Link to comment
Erah'sae Posted November 21, 2018 Share #10 Posted November 21, 2018 Aliona: I'll be more then happy to help you all get started with that, the great thing about Google Calendar is almost every calendar application will read from it, which makes it really easy for people get get reminders for events on their phones. The format for the body of the event in google calendar that the discord bot (and the event parser that makes my weekly posts) use is as follows: event URL, usually shortened, I prefer using google link shoret Location (this is here so the RPC calendar picks up the location, since it tries to map the location field to real world places and fails) description Contacts: (contacts here) For example, for the Matron's Reach open clinic event tomorrow night:https://goo.gl/4kFeLg Goblet Ward 7, Plot 6 An open clinic night at The Matron's Reach where those in need can find doctors awaiting them and to treat their ailments. Have a long lasting condition that needs numerous treatments? Talk to our healers about setting something up! The Reach also houses a therapist available on walk in or prior appointments. Appointment bookings also available! Want to stop in just for a snack? We're equipped for that too! Tea and cookies available for all along with potions and other alchemic creations available. Aife Posted November 21, 2018 Share #11 Posted November 21, 2018 Hello. I have a few friends considering staying on aether and I wanted to look into what the community was like/how active servers like Gilgamesh and Jenova are like? Is there is a discord for aether rp? I know there's a large (future) Crystal one. 1 Link to comment
Aliona Loyalar Posted November 21, 2018 Share #12 Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) @Erah'sae Thank you for the run down on that! Though our Discord’s do not use bots often the calander itself I am a fan of. Looks to be something we can use with our Tumblr page as well. ^.^ @Kasumi Gakunin Heyo! Jenova side it’s a pretty active server overall and feels to have an okay mix of folks from NA to EU time zones. Though one is in the works there is not a current Aether discord that I am aware of , however if you would like to pop in and check things out we do have a Jenova RP community Discord that I can DM. Elly Posted November 22, 2018 Share #13 Posted November 22, 2018 I would recommend choosing a low population server on Aether as the new RP server because housing would likely be abundant. I'm eyeballing Siren, Jenova, and Faerie as good candidates for an Aether RP server. Link to comment
Novasiri Posted November 22, 2018 Share #14 Posted November 22, 2018 (edited) Siren's a pretty quiet place, I'd vote for it~ Pretty common to see open housing spots too. Edited November 22, 2018 by Novasiri Link to comment

I'm eyeballing Siren, Jenova, and Faerie as good candidates for an Aether RP server. This, right here. Small pop servers need the population help, this is how Mateus was able to become what it is today. The way an RP community to grow on a current non-rp server, is you need a small population, a willing population, and the desire to just go public. Don't be afraid of trolls, take things in stride, and show the normal community that RP is not all about ERP (which is a mass public belief that is /all/ RP is about thanks to some particular sites out there for gaming news & Moon Guard). It is /NOT/ an easy task, it can be hair pulling, wall-to-head slamming, but if you have the patience, willing to endure the storms, and keep a level head, it /can/ be done. Link to comment
Anis Posted November 24, 2018 Share #16 Posted November 24, 2018 Siren has well established community, with lots of rp linkshells and new rp FCs popping up everyday. We also have a discord Hub, several events runnining throughout the week that cater to a lot of different rp needs. There’re currently a good number of empty housing plots as well, and the representers of the Siren rp community are very hardworking, always trying to make it grow and thrive. I’d dare say the size of Siren’s current rp community is pretty much the same as Mateus’ was, before the mass expdus from Balmung, so if people’d move there, chances are it will grow, rp wise, as much as Mateus did— it certainly has the potential to. With the new DC and server distributions, I believe Siren is a very good server to start a new Aether rp community on the likes of Mateus and Balmung. 1 Link to comment
V'lrajTia Posted January 15, 2019 Share #17 Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) Quote Gilgamesh has a fairly decent RP crowd. From what I understand, Gilgamesh and Balmung will not be on the same Datacenter after the reshuffle. However, Balmung and Mateus will. Unless SE has recently changed the line-up. Edit: Ah, nevermind. After looking at the line-up, Balmung and Mateus will be moved to the Crystal datacenter, and OP mentioned wanting to stay on Aether. The Frozen Link Posted April 7, 2019 Share #19 Posted April 7, 2019 Sorry if this is not related to the thread but.. With the second EU Data Center, wtf happens to the EU RP'ers (those who are on the EU Data Center) from my understanding, the community on Omega is small enough already, so the likelihood of an RP server on Light is.. next to none? I was really excited about the news to visit other servers on the same Data Center as I can't (don't want to) move since I got friends who don't RP on this server, but my server is being moved to the new Data Center, and there is no reason for my friends to considering staying on Chaos as there will be a lot of non-English speaking people on that Data Center (from my understanding) Link to comment
Valence Posted April 9, 2019 Share #20 Posted April 9, 2019 There will be a lot of non-english speakers on both Light and Chaos. German on the former and French on the latter. Link to comment
