RP Servers

Recommended Posts

By the sound of it a lot of EU  players either already have played on there or are going there so no matter what time you play you will be able to find people. I've found with American players they come with all sorts of play times so you can see them around all the time.

You have to remember it's a big enough country that they have quite a bit of timezone difference between east and west. In all peak times seem to be early morning  and evenings for EU time to NA time but like i said players from NA seem to be around at any time. And you'll have a large EU crowd anyway.

The whole time zone difference really isn't that much of a big deal in my experience. I've been in a lot of groups made up of both EU and NA players and although there were some players who completely missed each other, it's not like we all work 9 - 5 jobs and can only play in the afternoons, so for the majority of us, our play times were usually overlapped.

I'm an EU player but I chose Balmung, since there's no difference in between EU and NA servers and from the beta I didn't really see any times of inactivity. Also if you go with Balmung or Gilgamesh, where the majority of us live, there's a chance you might miss out on some players or activities because of timezones, but if you go to a completely different server, then you'll definitely miss out on players and activities.

1. The people going to moogle maybe dont even know about RPC here and Balmung/Gilgamesh etc. Keep that in mind before screaming "anotehr split?!"

2. Timezones. Yeah, they are not that big of a problem, but it will be when all the serverwide Events will be held 19/20.00 EST, as that is 1/2.00 am CET. And if some people from the US westcoast make it 19.00 PST that is 4.00 CET...

Thanks guys for replies. Once the Early Access starts (providing I'll get the code from EU Square Enix store :P), I'll roll my characters on Balmung then.

And if events are concerned, provided they happen on weekend, I won't have a problem with playing at 2 a.m :)

As someone who plays in the furthest reaches of the West, ranging in at GMT-7, I can say for certain that you'll find RP at all wakes of time. Depending on people's schedules, some people -only- have the chance to RP in the late evenings, some only in the early mornings.

Personally my schedule is so random due to my sleeping disorder that I find myself RPing at 4am one day, and 2pm the next. I think you're best bet is to dive for Balmung if you're looking for RP. Usually, RP is constant, regardless of time zones, it's just a matter of -finding it!-

I mean, if you were super bored and desperate you could toss up a forum post which essentially screams "Come plaay with me" and coax people to RP at your times. I bet you'd get more biters than you'd expect. People -swarm- to the opportunities like that.

...To prove my point it's 3am right now where I am, and I just woke up.

That's what the Europa LS will essentially be for. People who play at EU times, regardless of whether they're actually in EU time zone, are welcome to join and use the LS chat to shout out for RP if they're struggling to find any.

I know a handful of players - including myself - who live in England but intend to play on Balmung. I've a rather erratic sleeping pattern but in other MMO's I've played there has been no issue finding players to interact with regardless of the time zone differences. I can literally log on at any time and find something going on - a luxury I've not not necessarily been afforded on the EU realms in other MMO's.

There's not much reason to have an EU server, really.

The data centers for both EU and US servers are all in Montreal. It's the only place FF XIV has data servers outside of Japan (and back in 1.0 they only had Japan).

You will have the exact same connection on Moogle as you'd have anywhere else.

That's the reason why servers are split between Japan and US/EU rather than Japan, US and EU, separately in server selection.

The only reason to go to a EU-labelled server would be to have more chances to find people in the same timezone... but even that is highly questionable as people in every timezone often have conflicting schedules.

I mean most of my Silver Anvil fellows seem to be EU and we seem to play around the same times anyway. o_O

Hey all, new person here, just wondering what the EU community is like on Gilgamesh?  Is there a big following?  Just wondering if there are any other EU players on this server that are part of any LS/FC?

How has your experience been so far?

Heh we have had so many EU folk join us on Gilgamesh that I am pushing the September 1st Limitless Sky Beach Party Festival up to 2pm est so you guys can be there by an early enough time.

I might even put it at 1pm soon to be honest.

But yeah we are getting a hell of a lot of EU players, definitely more than I've known in other mmos. We all did a lot of rping in open beta together. Two of our FC leaders Akki chan of the Silver Anvil and Saefinn of Pirates of a Wayward Star are from the EU.

Hey guys, I just found this site so I apologize if my question seems a little newbish.

I've been trying to figure out where the unofficial RP servers will be so that my friends and I can choose one prior to launch. Balmung and Gilgamesh seem to be the answer to that.

However, I've read in a couple of places that these servers have gotten pretty full.

Do you guys, as the RP community, plan to choose another server to act as a secondary RP server in the event that those two are inaccessible to others at launch?

Aaahhh ... Just saw the notice at the top. Move me if you must. x.x But my question still stands.

From what I heard, every server was pretty full. SE really didn't realize the sheer quantity of interest there was in the game NA side. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. I ended up playing on a JP server when NA was inaccessible, but I didn't do any RP.

Also keep in mind that while it the open beta didn't go as smoothly as everyone had hoped, it was in fact a stress test as well to see what kind of load the servers could handle and still function properly.  Well, they got it!  There were often queues to get into the server, along with the 'world is full' message.  At the start they had to lock out creation on servers as well (highest I saw at one point was that 14/20 NA servers were locked!) to allow people to trickle in while they steadily raised the bar. I think the sheer number of people that wanted in shows how successful they've been at garnering interest and simply making a great game.  These issues have been addressed according to the development team, but we have yet to assess them as they were resolved post phase 4.

Also, it was an open beta and free to play for the weekend, so one could assume that much of the population were players that were simply testing the waters while it was free and will not be available or interested in playing during launch.

All in all, find the community that feels right for you!  Both servers have great players and amazing merits, and at that end of the day it's the people you're with that count.  :)

Video on server discussion (Balmung/Gilgamesh)

Ultimately it's down to you.. I wouldn't suggest (personally) going to anything other than these two servers if you wish to find RP. pure and simply because I'd prefer not to split us up as much as possible.

(I apologise for not posting anything about Balmung in the information section of this post, I linked the threads that came to mind at the time, I may have missed important info)

During the Open Beta, it was really crowded. Servers were intentionally closed off for new characters so players would go to the servers which were newly added perhaps a day after the start of the Open Beta. Eventually ALL the NA/EU servers were closed for several hours at the last day of the Beta because of two errors so many players were receiving and prevented them from playing at all.

Six hours before the (extended) end of the Open Beta, I managed to finally make a character on Gilgamesh and had no queue or errors. I had tried for over sixteen hours to make a character there, making the attempt a couple of times an hour just in case. There was just so much going on, I wouldn't assume that Gilgamesh or Balmung are truly full upon launch. Many people suffered from the error of not being able to log in because their character was (assumingly) still online and stuck in limbo. If that were true, this would have laid a heavy load on the server. Once they fixed that error, the Open Beta was like a breeze... for most.

But you are right. Balmung and Gilgamesh are the unofficial RP servers; one Legacy (Balmung) and one normal (Gilgamesh). Balmung is the most active on the role play front because of the Legacy characters which hadn't been deleted through out the Beta stages while Gilgamesh has been the fresh start for everyone. However, during the Open Beta people have tried to establish a RP community on Gilgamesh so it won't be empty and nothing once the game officially launches; there is role play and by what I have seen there is also plenty of it.

It is up to you and your friends where to go, what you prefer. Nobody knows if the servers will be full quickly after launch, but I surely wouldn't expect it as people managed to get in/create characters on both the servers a few hours before the Open Beta ended. Queues are a different story though.

Good luck!

Thank you both for the your responses that is very good to hear.  I'm liking Gilgamesh more and more each time I hear something about it.

This Limitless Sky Beach Party Festival sounds pretty fun too!  Rerolling from EU to US is sounding like a good idea..
