g0ne Posted August 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2014 So, I'm finally into the game, in the Balmung server, and I started off in Gridania, due to Eleni being an archer. Not sure why, but I haven't seen a single person RPing yet! :surprise: Am I missing out on something? Where are the RPers? Link to comment
Berrod Armstrong Posted August 20, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2014 So, I'm finally into the game, in the Balmung server, and I started off in Gridania, due to Eleni being an archer. Not sure why, but I haven't seen a single person RPing yet! :surprise: Am I missing out on something? Where are the RPers? It's probably the time! Gridania I've found, usually has people in the Carline Canopy very late at night. When you eventually get to Ul'Dah and Limsa Lominsa, you'll see a greater presence of roleplayers there -- FAR greater. Ul'Dah has sort of been the default hub and there has been an active effort to promote roleplay in Limsa Lominsa -- so the roleplay is concentrated in those two cities. I'm not sure if there's been any sort of Gridanian initiative -- so there's a bit less there. Link to comment
Aldotsk Posted August 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2014 They had been roaming around Ul'dah and Limsa instead . but you can always arrange it with other players! Link to comment
Kage Posted August 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2014 If you're talking about right now, at this very second... Balmung is primarily active later in time. Most likely ~12pm-12am PDT Most people are most likely asleep or at work. I'm not sure about the RP in Gridania either as I never really RP'd there. Link to comment
g0ne Posted August 20, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted August 20, 2014 Alright, I guess I'll just have to hurry and get to Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa. I'll try to plan my time playing the game too. Thanks, everyone! Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted August 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2014 I've seen some RP in Gridania, but on a much smaller scale. (It felt peaceful and homey, much like the city does to me. I may have to return one of these days when I have a character that would fit in more). As other have said, it'll probably be another 4 hours from now before the server really starts to wake up. I'd imagine it's mostly EU players with some people on the East Cast of NA currently. If you're looking for more open-world RP, it could take a little longer before the community wakes up! But don't let that discourage you! I know some RPers who like to sit and watch (myself being one of them), until they see something approachable. An emote or two as a hook can go a long way. And again, welcome to the community! Link to comment
Zoetrooper Posted August 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2014 Asking is generally the best thing you can do. Hopefully the people here are able to give you some good advice! Link to comment
LiveVoltage Posted August 20, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2014 Most RP is done in the Thanalan and La Noscea, for reasons being they are far more interesting locations to RP at. Try checking there, mostly at taverns and you will find RP definitely. Link to comment
Mae Posted August 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 20, 2014 To be honest, Gridania RP tends to be slim even on a good day. Carline Canopy RP is usually later at night (as already stated) US-time and with a smaller crowd that's typically sort of book-ish (wine and tea drinkers versus the beer and ale drinkers of Ul'dah). The Falls, the Theater, and those big open areas on either side of the Botanist's guild tend to be the other locations used. Black Shroud RP, though, that's fairly common. Or at least it is when I'm out and about; it's rare that I go a a day without blundering through a group or two while I'm doing my daily routine. So if you're not seeing any/much RP in the city itself, it's likely because they're all out doing something in the woods. Buscarron's Druthers and Fallgourd Float (even with the influx of Coil lurkers) and Little Solace often have people RPing there. Link to comment
Dat Oni Posted August 20, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 20, 2014 It also helps if you follow this general rule: If there's no rp, make some! Put in your search info that you welcome Walk-Up roleplayers (where people just walk up to you and start interacting), and try and just sit down and type out what your character is doing at the moment. Like, drinking by yourself, reading a book, standing guard, all that jazz. If it's interesting enough, people will investigate. RP is a lot like knocking over a chain of dominoes: it's awesome once it's started, but someone has to knock over that first domino. 2 Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted August 20, 2014 Share #11 Posted August 20, 2014 In the other two nations, RP happens in the main cities mostly with minor rp happening in the overworld and some of the settlements. Now there is RP happening in the Black Shroud but most people miss it because its the opposite in the Shroud, most if not all of the RP happens in the forests and outer sites and settlements, with very little happening in Gridania itself. I find even some vets telling me there's little in the Shroud, to that I say you're looking in the wrong place. Hit me up in game and I'll point out a few spots. Link to comment
Aya Posted August 20, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 20, 2014 Just keep looking Make sure to keep an eye out for people with "RP" in their FC names, and you can also inspect people to look at their search info. Most RPers welcome walk-up RP, though I realize that some shyness can make that difficult, just keep your eye open and be a little bold I have never seen as much random RP in any gaming community that I have ever been a part of than I see on Balmung. LiadansWhisper Posted August 20, 2014 Share #13 Posted August 20, 2014 I have this niggling feeling that a lot of RP in Gridania happens in the housing areas. I know I am guilty of this! Link to comment
Jerciex Posted September 8, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 8, 2014 I like to hang around in Twelveswood. If you see me walking around or sitting somewhere, feel free to join. I might be new in RP, but I'll try my best. Link to comment
Aduu Avagnar Posted September 8, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 8, 2014 even if no one actively walks up to you whilst you do your own emoting, I actually enjoy describing the various bits of research Nako gets up to in the quieter times of day in the Quicksand, and have had a couple of glances his way . working with crystals is fun! Geneticdork Posted September 8, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 8, 2014 I'm new to the game myself, and was worried if there would be any RP. My first day a couple of RPers walked up to me while I was turning in a quest and bam! RP! I actually haven't been leveling much, and really just been RPing. I've noticed also that the RP seems heaviest in Ul'dah, then Limsa, and only a lil in Gridania - though I've mostly been staying in Ul'dah, so there may be more RP over in the other places, not sure. Try looking in and around the taverns/inns, that's usually where a lot of people will hang out. And as others have said here, sometimes there might not seem like there's any RP going on, but that may be because there are RPers sitting or standing around, hoping someone will initiate some RP first. So if you do happen to see someone sitting or standing in a tavern, just go up to them and say hello or something IC. Different times will have different amount of RPers too, so it may depend on your location IRL. Afternoons and nights tend to be the heaviest. And hey, if you ever want to RP, let me know! I'd be happy to. :3 My main that I've been RPing with the most at the moment is Misha Jinhri, so just poke me IC or OOC if you wanna do something! Best of luck to you! 1 Link to comment

Jezune Garinthe Posted September 8, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 8, 2014 Damn, I wish there was more open rp in the Shroud. Jezune's original home is in the Shroud, and he'd love to head back. Link to comment
g0ne Posted September 9, 2014 Author Share #19 Posted September 9, 2014 Hey, thanks a lot, everyone for your replies! No worries. I have set foot in Ul'dah and Limsa, so I see lots of RP now. I've also RPed some myself, and wow, RP!! I'll try and RP with as many of you as I can. I'll always send an OOC tell first, but if someone else wants to walk up and RP, be my guest! (Just send a little tell first!) Hoping to RP with as many of you as possible as soon as possible!! Glad to be part of the RPC. Link to comment
