Everyone speaks British

You know the best thing about this game's English translation? It seems to be done in various British dialects. Strictly for personal tastes, I find this cool because a) I'm British myself and b) American accents in fantasy games irk the crap out of me.

Does anyone know anything about this? Was the translation done by a UK agency? Because the dialects are VERY accurate. Nashu utters "Cor!" at one point, and one of the hunter-scholar NPCs says something about miner foremen "not giving a toss" (which means "not giving a crap"). It is quite impressive, I absolutely love the solid grasp.

It also validates my own character's accent, which is supposed to be sort of inner city South London. H-dropping and glottal stops etc.

It had not really occurred to me, but now you point it out I see (hear) it. I have no information on how it was done.

Slightly related: In SWTOR the whole of the Imperial side was voiced by British accents, some quite broad.. including Welsh and Scottish. One soldiers description with a Welsh accent of a Sith and his interest in ergonomic chairs is still on of my fun dialogues in the game.

I believe it's fairly obvious the localization crew took cues from Alexander Smith's stupendous work on FFXIIs localization, which in my very humble opinion, is the best of all jRPGs. Plus, Eorzea is very Ivalice-esque, so it fits. And you know I already disagree with you about American accents in fantasy settings. It would work for FFVI and FFIX, yes, but FFVII and FFX? Good Lord that would be something else entirely. I'm not sure I could handle The Teedus HAHAHAing it up in Great British.

But I digress. You really should play FFXII. Though Dalmascans have American accents, so... Oh well!

I'm pretty sure they just thought a British dialect would give the game a more fantasy/medieval feel or make certain characters sound more fancy (or more slummy, in some cases).

Yep, I think it's just this too. :) That said, I still refer to the various British dialects spoken in game as, for example, a "Lominsan accent," rather than a British one for RP. I only say this because I've seen it said that a character has a British accent in RP - but there's no Britain in game so it struck me as odd. xD
