Kylin Posted October 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2014 Surprised this hasn't been posted anywhere yet, although the hype around 3.0 likely drowned it out. First time hearing it, I actually didn't care for it much. But it's growing quickly on me personally, especially if it's used in combination with the 2.4 trailer music post Diamond Dust style. So, love it or hate it? And more importantly, what are those blasted lyrics!? aDosGXQZz9I Lyrics (may not be 100% correct. Guessing involved!): Staring at death I take a breath There’s nothing left Now I close my eyes For one last time And say goodbye Running naked while the snow falls all around me Drifting closer to the ash (why should anyone hurt) me Wake up in sweat Full of regret Try to forget These memories (Lodged in beneath) Lost in the dream Link to comment
Kage Posted October 20, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2014 When they revealed the 1 min snippet (and before telling us we had to actually get far in the fight to hear this part), to be honest... I'm pretty meh about it. I don't have a super yay feeling for it. It's not bad but... I'm not really feeling it. Link to comment
FreelanceWizard Posted October 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2014 I like the snippet, but I'd have to hear it in the context of the entire piece to make a real judgment on it. That said, the snippet doesn't really "grab" me the way the last phase of Titan (Under the Weight) or the opening of Garuda (Fallen Angel) does. Under the Weight especially has that "You thought that was a fight? This just got real" feeling to it. Link to comment
Rythulian Posted October 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2014 Let me put it this way, I don't care for it right now. But at the same I didn't really care for Leviathan's theme when I first heard it either. It could grow on me if I end up hearing it a lot, really depends on how often the fight comes up in a roulette I guess. As for the lyrics, this is what I could hear... Staring and pray I take a run There’s nothing left (And) I close my eyes For one last time And say goodbye Running naked while the snow falls all around me Drifting closer to the ash (why should anyone hurt) me Wake up in sweat Full of regret Try to forget These memories (Lodged in beneath) Lost in the dream *Break as in the break of dawn maybe? Edit; That first line is the bane of my existence. What the heck are you staring at? Edit 2; Possibly "Staring and pray" for the first line. The second line is definitely "I take a run" not, "I take a breath". Link to comment
Tiergan Posted October 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2014 Kinda meh about it as well - was kinda hoping for another Ramuh-esque or Leviathan BG. Link to comment
Blue Posted October 20, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2014 Sounds like the opening theme of a japanese anime, honestly. <_<; Link to comment
allgivenover Posted October 20, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2014 Think I'm going to be in the minority here when it comes to liking it, and I do. Link to comment
Crisiet Posted October 20, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 20, 2014 I uh... I kinda like it. Lol. Link to comment
thesunalsorises Posted October 20, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 20, 2014 I like it. It reminds me of jpop circa 2000-2005, for some reason the vocalist sounds really familiar like she's imitating someone's style, but I can't put my finger on who. Ringo Sheena, idk? It's really familiar and it's driving me insane. Link to comment
Merri Posted October 21, 2014 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2014 I dig it. Can't wait to hear the rest~ Staring at death I take a breath Would be my take on the first few lines. My two gil on how Shiva's story is gonna play out has been further reinforced by these lyrics, though. It's a bit farfetched, but I like thinking up farfetched ideas. I think Iceheart is Shiva. We've been told Shiva is going to be radically different from any primal we've fought before in her origins and why she's doing what she's doing. Even more so than Ramuh. I'm thinking she's from one of the hamlets in Coerthas, being Elezen and all. After the calamity and the destruction that winter brought to Coerthas, Iceheart decided to try and find some way to save her people, who wound up being abandoned by Ishgard, and subsequently Halone. She inevitably discovers the ability to basically become a primal somehow, and essentially becomes Shiva to gain control over the winter and save her kin from certain death. Her final lines in the 2.4 trailer gave me this idea. "We, who gods and men have forsaken, will be the instruments of our own deliverance." Probably not the case, but it'd be interesting if it were. allgivenover Posted October 21, 2014 Share #11 Posted October 21, 2014 It's a sound theory Merri. I also think Iceheart is an estranged princess of Ishgard too though. Link to comment
Nero Posted October 21, 2014 Share #12 Posted October 21, 2014 Hm, to be honest I was expecting something a bit more along the style of Ramuh's theme, something very...well, cold sounding, with a detached feeling. I do generally like the sound of it, and the guitars are nice, though the fact that it sounds like a 90s anime opening (and Engrish to boot) makes it hard to take seriously when considering we're supposed to be fighting an elemental demigoddess. Titan and Garuda's theme had some real weight behind them and some dark tones that made those themes more appropriate for major boss encounters. That said, this is only a small piece of it, so maybe the full thing is better. Link to comment
Marisa Posted October 21, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 21, 2014 I was hoping for something different, but it's alright. It's certainly unlike any music currently in-game. Link to comment
Azureus Scipio Posted October 21, 2014 Share #14 Posted October 21, 2014 Sounds like a 90's pop song Link to comment
Berrod Armstrong Posted October 21, 2014 Share #15 Posted October 21, 2014 Yesterday morning I had it on repeat while I was dressing, got really into it lol. It took a few listens for me to warm up to it. Got that nostalgic late 90's early 2000's feel and really takes me back! Can't wait to hear the rest of it along with the fight. I haven't been disappointed by any of the primal tracks so far. The lyrics are different too, they don't seem to include the worship theme that the other primal tracks with lyrics do. I'm interested to see how that all comes into play. Link to comment
Naunet Posted October 21, 2014 Share #16 Posted October 21, 2014 I'm not a huge fan of the near-toneless singing, and the instrumental part is kinda... uninspired. But then, I kinda feel that way about all the primal themes. Link to comment

allgivenover Posted October 21, 2014 Share #18 Posted October 21, 2014 I can't go through the stream right now, but I do recall Sokken saying that the vocals were not finished. Link to comment
Zyrusticae Posted October 21, 2014 Share #19 Posted October 21, 2014 I like it. But I'm more curious what the previous phase... or, heavens forbid, phaseS, sound like. Hope it's not like Leviathan where the preceding phase(s) has absolutely nothing to do with the final track and more like Under the Weight with its multiple distinct phases. ...But it'll probably be like Leviathan. I just... know it in my heart to be true. Link to comment

I just... know it in my hear to be true. I suspect the first part will be the music we heard in the trailer (which isn't bad!). I loved the opening stuff in Leviathan, it really established the tension...and the LB music just released it. Made the fight uber fun. Ughhh Ramuh's music has been my favorite (replacing Titan's) since it came out. It reminds me so much of Björk, and I can never have enough Björk in my life. Link to comment
Dogberry Posted October 21, 2014 Share #21 Posted October 21, 2014 It's very 90's alt rock. I like it as a song, but it's not something I'd really want to throw down to. If I'm fighting primals, I want some intensity. Link to comment

Ughhh Ramuh's music has been my favorite (replacing Titan's) since it came out. It reminds me so much of Björk, and I can never have enough Björk in my life. Ramuh's is really good on its own, but the thing about Titan is how inextricably linked it is to the actual experience of fighting him. I simply cannot imagine fighting him without that shredding in the background. Absolutely none of the other primal themes have managed to give me that feeling again. It's making me sad.
