It would take these devs to turn something so simple and make it so needlessly complex. It's like a Rube Goldberg machine without any of the whimsy.

/em buzzes in.

"What is 'anything players have been looking forward to.' I'll take 'Things SE somehow bungled' for 1600, Alex."

Seriously. Colored AF. Housing. Chocobo raising. Housing. PVP. Helping people in Coil post-clear for the week.

HOUSING.

And have you all forgotten when they implemented player housing?

There are greener pastures. It's all up to y'all to go find 'em.

SE has an obsession with controlling every twitch your character may want to make, though. I don't think they know the meaning of "keep it simple, stupid", much less have any familiarity with the design concept that you should let your players have as much free reign as possible.

Good thing the RP in this universe is so engaging, I suppose.

It's Stockholm Syndrome for some of us now. This sort of stuff dates back to FFXI, too. It's sort of a joke, anytime SE teases us with something, the old guard know better than to expect it to be handed to them or without a million hoops to jump through.

Is... is it bad I sort of find it charming?

"Ha! Requires alchemy 2 stars! We should have knooooown!"

This is why I hoard every currency going into a patch, FYI. Paid off for Animus books, paid off for Spring waters. FOOL ME ONCE, SE.

The problem is that there are options now.

Wonderful options.

Sooooo many options...

But you're right, there's some completely idiotic nostalgic grip that this game has on me, coupled with a really wonderful community that I've finally found.

I can put up with awful design if the people I'm with aren't awfully designed as well.

There are days though...oooh there are days when I feel that hook yanking free and I can almost see into the clear blue before I'm dragged down again.

...by the Dark Knight job.

Dammit.

More power to ya, I suppose. SE isn't going to change if people don't make them, but ah well. I was strong enough to set down my MMO roots elsewhere when this crap got to be just way too ridiculous. xD

"Strong enough." like this game has some sort of pull on the weak willed.

I like the game, man. Other MMO's bore me.

I was replying to the two individuals who admitted that they hated a great many of SE's design decisions and that they've recognized a pattern that they will always be disappointed in SE's decisions for many things. And yet they remain. To me, that is just really sad - especially when there are MMOs out there who actually do right all those systems that they complain about in XIV. Clearly that doesn't apply to you, who likes the game. :P

I actually enjoy multiple games. I have several MMOs in rotation. XIV is one. WildStar another, Landmark another, and I'm considering including Elite: Dangerous as Star Citizen has whetted my appetite for more internet spaceship sandboxiness.

Sticking with XIV despite--or perhaps more appropriately IN spite of--its hairbrained design decisions to keep with a community I enjoy is worth it. So is what's coming down the pike with Heavensward. So is writing my character's story, even if there's nobody around who cares to hear it. And besides, I have other games that I play and enjoy that keep my tastes moving. I love having a rotation.

As I stated before, I'll stick with a game designed poorly if the folks I interact with make it worth my while. There've been moments where I've questioned it...but time and again this community that I've found here and in Balmung have been worth it.

And after all, whatever game you're alluding to can't be that incredible. You're back here, aren't you? Unless, of course, you're building a rotation.

In either case, welcome back. Now let's not derail the thread further, shall we? :3

I'm not; I just hang out on the forums here so I can keep in touch with what's going on in game lore and the community, because I still roleplay my characters here (though I doubt hardly anyone cares xD). All my game time goes to WildStar though; I couldn't justify supporting SE financially with their frustrating decisions. That's really what it boiled down to - the money I'd give them for a sub wouldn't be going towards the community, but towards implicitly supporting design decisions I think are idiotic (like pieces of the wedding system...).

I definitely understand staying in the game, though, if you rotate around several MMOs. I used to do that with WoW, Rift, and TERA, though eventually F2P pretty much killed two of the three and I quit the first due to raid leader burnout. So no it's just WildStar. ^^; And continuing RP with FFXIV friends.

I have to say I got spoiled by the first wedding I got to attend. It had the gondola, a smarmy moogle presiding over everything, and even the showy flying kiss at the end. Felt kinda bad when I went to another and it had just walking and signing names in a book in front of some boring Hyur and no kissing. Am I jaded now? :(

I'm genuinely disappointed only one option has a kiss in it. I'm not gonna even consider the other two when it means missing the one opportunity to ever have me and my partner's characters kiss in the entire game.

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of variety as well... Though we're going with the book-signing option because that flying aether wing kiss thing is just WAY too anime for us. xD
