The image of real pain. Well, close to real pain. 1% would have been worse.

So close. Also found out that apparently T8 savage remains unclaimed on this server, so it would have been a server first. We're going to try to buckle down tonight, but oh man is this fight challenging as all hell. Makes T13 look like T1 in comparison. Hell, even T9 savage was a breeze compared to this. But, 6% after two nights progression is pretty solid. \o/

Ballistics and Allagan field from the very start. Everything hits harder. Three towers from the start, as well as a new type of tower mixed in that reduces max HP. No set locations, towers spawn randomly. Can't stack ballistic missles, so you need two separate groups to deal with each pair. Tower vulnerability is even more dangerous, so you need a set rotation of people to handle certain towers. Absolutely need two tanks, as the dreadnaught hits like a truck and cannot be tanked near Avatar, otherwise they buff each other by crazy amounts.

That's just the first 40% or so. Then the real fun starts. Double Allagan Field. Double homing missles. And to top it all off, not three towers, but four. All in entirely randomized locations. Oh yeah, there's also five land mines. So not only do you have to watch our for homing missles if you have field. You also have to watch out for mines, which have a massively increased explosion radius. One hit by a mine and it's a guaranteed wipe. One hit by a missle and if you aren't fully buffed, it's a wipe. People with fields also need to push towers at very precise times without much room for delay, so if buffs aren't near instantaneous, that's also a wipe.

Naturally you're still dealing with ballistic missles this entire time, which is also entirely stressful. If you don't position those correctly, you can also be bounced into towers and wipe the group, or bounced far away from a tower you need to push and wipe the group.

The main tank also has to precisely position the Avatar, as you need to be able to push certain towers in any random location, and if you get hit by the Avatar's cleave it's close to game over, even if you don't have field.

There's so much raid awareness and split second thinking in this fight, it's mind numbing. So much fun, though. I need dat title. I must be the Avatar.

Yeah! I run with my FCoB static. We've been knocking coil out in like an hour on tuesday, so everyone decided to tackle the savages so we don't just finish up tuesday night and not raid for the rest of the week.

Definitely worth doing if you find the static to challenge them, though! Lots and lots of fun. T8 is hands down the hardest fight I've experienced in XIV yet. it's awesome. We're right on the cusp of downing it, and despite the low % wipes, I'm always having an absolute blast getting ready to dive back in for the next pull. So ready to put him down and move onto the last real challenge in 7.

So close. ; ;

Yay! Word on the street is it's server first, though I don't know the validity of the claim. There's a few other Avatars on the server, but apparently most are transfers. Either way, so hype! Gonna upload the kill video to my youtube later~

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, it started out with this. Kind of loud. Our WHM got a bit excited~

But after a bit more heartache... ...hardest fight in the entire game complete. \o/ And possibly even another server first, as far as we know. :D

Gonna edit together our Bard's footage with my own and upload it a bit later.

Now to just roflstomp T6 savage and we'll be 4/4!

We're doing Savage once a week cause a couple of us are in T13 progression, others on T12...

But ohgodwhy T9 Savage hurts how. I've read about "common" things people do about the golems eating the meteors. Do people actually sometimes force a golem to eat 4 just as it is about to die so it dies with a 4th?

4/4 on Savage as of Sunday. Finally done!

hycnddw.png

All in all, took us about two weeks to knock them all out! T9 took about two nights, T8 took three, T7 took about six, and T6 took under two hours. Of course, T6 savage is really the only turn that you can be 100% gear carried. Wound up downing her in under 6 minutes on the clear. She absolutely melts. The rest require certain degrees of skill at least, with T7 having next to no gear carry and 100% skill and execution. Fun stuff! Definitely recommend that anyone who's raid savvy gives savage a try~

Totally hyped for Alexander HM. Apparently it's going to be even harder than savage is.

....But until then, it looks like we need to make our own challenges. \o/

You don't have to. We did maybe once or twice out of all our attempts, and it was only ever a last ditch effort to save the pull. It usually went off without a hitch, but at the end of the day it shouldn't boil down to it. Golem tanks just need to be on top of feeding, and there's a certain degree of RNG based around how tightly patterned your drop phase was. 99% of the time we either were able to feed everything properly or died because something went wrong. 4th feed was always and "oh shit" moment.

Grats Merri! :D

Were your DPS always high enough to kill green before switch or were you always dealing with a "2nd" green?

Thank you. :>

We actually didn't kill green first to alleviate this entirely. We had the DPS to burn the first set of golems, but we found ourselves without CDs for the second set and it'd cause the green to run rampant. So, we devised an entirely different strat that worked perfectly for us.

We actually focused blue down first, which was tanked and fed by our Bard, since Bard burst DPS is the highest in the game. The other two tanks held red and green respectively. This eliminated one key factor, that being the green swapping to the non-tank feeder and obliterating him instantly.

Now, some times we would burn the blue quickly enough and it'd die before the swap. Cool, one golem down. Some times we didn't, and we'd have a 50% chance of the green swapping to the blue we were fighting. The good thing about this is our DPS was always consistent. If the golem wasn't dead before the swap, it was at about 5%, and died right after the swap had gone out and the golems hadn't regained control of themselves yet.

So, we'd either kill the blue, or instantly kill the green/red.

If the blue swapped with the red, red would die, and the green would swap onto the other tank. If green didn't swap to blue, we'd kill green next, and finish off blue last. Otherwise we'd finish off blue and kill red last.

Little bit more healing intensive since the green stays alive for at least one rotation, but it 100% removes the RNG of green swapping to the non-tank and obliterating them and anyone around them. It also lets the tank be a little more choosey with how they feed the green, as feeding it two red will make for a nasty obliterate.

1 Player vs Ifrit HM

SCH vs Ifrit.

That's awesome... even if they needed max echo. I kinda wanna try to solo Ifrit HM on WAR now. I wonder if my self-healing would be high enough at i130.

Oh um, fun thing that this just made me think of. Tanked last boss of AK HM as WAR with no healer. (ie healer died at like 80% hp) DPS and myself ended up taking the boss down rest of the way. So there's a fun thing peeps can try to spice up their experts.

Do the two clutch wins I somehow managed in World of Darkness count?

On one occasion, we were fighting Five-Headed Dragon and everyone but me and the BLM died somehow or another. Dragon's low enough that I switch to Sword Oath, pop some defensives, and go to town. BLM drops, but I manage to kill the dragon just as it kills me.

The other was in a PuG against Cloud herself. Apparently everyone else decided that they'd try to rush the boss instead of dealing with the second set of the worm things, so EVERYONE got hit with a litany of debuffs. Which meant most people got locked out of trying to get to their respective charged clouds. I knew they were going to go off, so I popped Hallowed Ground to survive it and a shield lob and two hits on Cloud when she reappeared was enough to bring her down.

I... don't ACTIVELY try to do these things, but I will do my best to avoid a wipe as long as I'm standing. :(

That's really the challenging, fun PvE thing I do -- figuring out how to win fights when most would say, "Wipe it." Soloing the Chimera in Cutter's Cry is the classic one, but I've also tanked and soloed Titan Story as WHM and nearly beaten Titan HM from 10% as BLM using a gaoled DPS as my "tank." Four times now I've had to duo Fenrir using my puny BLM Physick. :)

Last night, doing Keeper, our healer and one of our DPS ate AoEs and died, and the other DPS and I almost took out the second dragon, with me using every trick in the PLD book and Stoneskin to stay up. We got him down to like 4%! We'd have had him too if an unfortunate sequence of AoEs hadn't taken down the last DPS. :(

One day, ice mirage dragon. I will take your head with no healer to back me up. *shakes fist*
