Patch 2.51 Date Feb 24

I wouldn't say they "caved". That outfit being unisex wasn't some last minute decision made in response to the temporary uproar. To have things ready for 2.51, that had to have been planned out way in advance.

Coincidentally, I'm not sure where the requirement to wear a coat reads "Must have penis".

....that said, I do get where you're coming from. Some specific clothes for the gentlemen would definitely be welcome. Longcoats, however, do not fit that mold.

Well, I would say that the uproar had an effect as it was just a couple interviews/live letters or so ago that they stated it would be males only. Perhaps someone made a mistranslation but it was announced that it would be male only.

I was honestly disappointed they caved and made the Setzer gear multigender. No offense to all the people who play females (or are females) but other then racial gear and the Bohemian Outfit there are no Male exclusive outfits in the game, while there are plenty of female exclusive outfits.

The swimsuits and some other odds and ends come to mind. Can't wear the Couerl Talisman as a ladyperson.

It is consistent with some policy. The dresses are somehow not unisex, while on the other hand suits can be worn by either sex. Only items that would leave the female character shirtless are male only, and even then I'd argue they should have just put cloth bindings or underwear into the equipment if a woman wore it, like they did with some other pieces of gear. I find it a little annoying, as a male character ought to be able to wear the dress, whether it's for comedic or serious purposes.

In my case, I'm more annoyed that they never made it possible to wear clothes of the opposite sex from your starting equipment. I prefer the way the Male Lalafell boots look and wanted to wear them, or their tunic. It'd be even better if you could somehow wear a miniature version of other race's starting clothes...

Except Yoshida was quoted as stating it would be male only, then there was a massive uproar, and now it's not.

It's not really anything to do with it being a longcoat that I say it should have been male only, but that the character who wore it originally was male. Since they opted to make Snow's outfit male only, it would have made sense that they would have done something similar with Setzer's outfit.

Well, regardless. It's here and we have it. Better to have it and have it be unisex rather than for it to not be in the game at all. They easily could've given us no new outfits whatsoever.

The problem isn't that men don't have enough exclusive outfits. The problem is there is a double standard with clothing that actively discourages and puts down men for doing or looking anything that could be conceivably feminine.

There shouldn't be anything gender locked, in my opinion.

Since upvotes aren't visible for individual posts, all of this ^^^

The hilarious thing is that people will often make the argument that things like the bunny girl outfit would "look dumb" on guys. NEWSFLASH! The bunny girl outfit looks dumb on EVERYBODY! There are no excuses here. They should make it available for everyone.

And while I'm at it, variations in the exact same clothing across gender lines makes no sense at all (I'm looking at you, dragoon gut window!). The ONLY difference that makes sense is the presence of a bra for female characters because support is good. That's it. The omission of key parts of an armor or clothing set specifically for skin exposure makes my skin crawl. If I want to dress up half-naked it should be with specific sets of armor that are designed for it on both sexes - which, actually, is exactly what I do and is the main reason I never, ever wear the dragoon set on my Miqo' female.

Precisely this, I don't even play male characters and I was genuinely disappointed when I noticed that girls could wear female and male wedding clothes, but males couldn't wear the bridesmaid clothing. Like we don't even need to delve into social justice to be bummed at this, it still sucks to see a bunch of characters get so one-sided-ly locked out of options. And of course if one does delve into social justice they would find even more good reasons to be bummed.

I have an odd feeling that any IC trip to the Golden Saucer for Chachan would be like a kid getting to go to Disneyland.
