Gold Saucer RP

Holy crap it's like the perfect place for RP. It's like the Citadel, the Deep Space 9, the Babylon 5 of FFXIV...

I love everything about these comparisons and it makes me adore the Gold Saucer even more than I ready do.

Goodbye I am gone to the best three space stations combined all into one and I am never leaving.

I can't stop playing Triple Triad even though I'm completely terrible at it and get frustrated at some of the stupid rulesets at some of the tables and I wonder where the good cards are and just one more hand I'm THIS CLOSE to another win.

My partner is pretty much addicted to chocobo racing, and its threatening his continued climb to Black Mage.

Also there was some random pick-up RP that happened and Steel got another potential contact/hire, even as busy and as nutty as it was.

....please send help.

It took an FC-mate basically walking me through it to understand how the Plus rule works. I was fighting the King basically using a method of "place this, then this, then this" and not having a clue how it was working or why I was winning. So, when he did things to defy the pattern, I was completely at a loss.

Now that I actually know, I can work around it better (and can lament my losses even more coherently!) and have managed a total of four Godberts and no Bahamuts. :(

I haven't raced with Chachan yet, but Gogon's managed one first place win and the rest of the... four, five races were in the 3-6 range.

Yea I'm still playing the Noobiscuit League until I feel a little better about my ability and my cards. I'll probably also smash a few HMs and hope for some card drops there too.

Practice makes me rage so hard FFF perfect!

I think my ability is pretty limited by my cards. It's hard to do much with a handful of one-stars when a lot of the opponents in the Saucer will happily drop 3-5 star cards like it ain't no thang. It's why I wanted the Godbert and Bahamut cards - to get an early leg-up so I can fight on their level somewhat.

... Of course, if I could get the Onion Knight card from WoD, I'd be the happiest little Lala at the saucer. EAT SIX-STAR, YOU JERKS. :x

I've seen some people RP at Gold Saucer. It can work but if you try RPing -right now- prepare for wait (for others to make it in) and possibly not very... it's more casual than story-driven?

I mean sometimes I don't even load people who are right next to me @_@; I have to move around before their character can appear on screen.

I definitely think it could be fun. There's even a little bar on the second floor by the GIANT CACTAUR, if I remember correctly from my wanderings for the aetheryte. Not to mention all the walkways to sneak away to for quieter conversations (or stealing a hug or two, I think I saw an embracing couple on one of said staircases).

It's definitely a great place to do RP in and it has so many avenues to have it.

It's just so congested that it may have issues with coordinating something substantial, at this very moment.

Hopefully they beef up how many can go in, etc. :V

Same here... I'm waiting for lower congestion so I don't risk getting yelled at for RPing in public. Because heaven forbid anyone say anything over /say ever... *Rolls eyes*

How dare you?! You're getting kicked! *votes dismiss*

*hugs for real*

It's even worse when they report you for spamming when they're going at 5 shouts/minute. That happened to me a lot on GW2.

It's even worse with the Simon Says-style dancing GATE, at least it was when I did it on Gogon on Zalera. It was like people JUST discovered emotes and had to spam ALL OF THEM ALL THE TIME while they waited for the GATE itself to start.

Wow, non-rpers are really unobservant.

*Misses 5 FATEs because RP plot*

Well shit.

I haven't even tried getting into GS in Balmung. I already know my poor creaking, ancient laptop won't be able to handle it even if I did get in. Besides, neither of my characters have a plausible reason for being there so I'll leave the fun times to my main. Even if it does mean getting bombarded with all the goldbot tells that are so much more noticeable after a week on Balmung (and seriously, I only got one goldbot in the last week and I've been on pretty well all day. Go Balmung)

It's unlikely that they've only just discovered emotes for the first time considering you need to use them to advance through the main quest. I've also seen plenty of role-players spamming emotes during that particular mini-game so let's cut the crap and not so subtle sniping at the expense of people who don't role-play, yeah?

Balmung isn't an official role-playing realm. Nobody has 'more right' to be somewhere and not get disturbed just because they happen to be engaging in role-play, especially when the area in question is bustling with activity.

Should you be able to role-play there? Sure! Though you'll have to grit your teeth together and acknowledge that people running around doing their own thing is part of the package. I don't buy into the idea that they're 'ruining immersion' either - there's a chat filter for a reason and you can place problematic players on ignore.

I sincerely hope people do start to RP there; it's a wonderful opportunity to spread RP out as many players have wanted to - we just need to take it. I understand it's easier to stay in Ul'dah rather than move another city, since it would basically be the same RP just dressed differently, and you always know people will be in the Quicksand, but at least the Saucer offers many new scenarios and a fresh environment. And it still has bars if you want that.

I wasn't sniping at non-RPers (Zalera doesn't HAVE RP, as far as I know). More just griping at the fact that my first GATE I participated in consisted of a huge crowd of people with a good dozen or so just spamming the emote buttons like there was no tomorrow. It was a good thing it was a vision-based event otherwise I would've lost any and all text in the scroll.

And wondering how horrible it'd be to try and RP with someone else in close enough vicinity to when the GATE appears. It'd be like with the major events like the Balls - and, to a lesser degree, the Quicksand during peak hours - where a ton of things are going on at once. Except, instead of several mini-RPs going on at once and overlapping, it's a handful of people just spamming away with the emotes.

I'm just saying it probably would've been a good idea to have those emote buttons for the GATE be coded to do the /x motion emotes instead of just /x. If for nothing else than to keep chatlogs from getting flooded with waves and crying and whatnot both before and during the event.

EDIT: To continue with the RP side of the thread, though... what's everyone's thoughts on having IC Triple Triad decks and Chocobo Races?

After all, you can challenge other players to TT, and you can form a party and the party leader can queue everyone up for a race. There's tons of potential right there for fun little IC interactions and events, I'm certain. A FC-sanctioned chocobo race, for example, with brackets and betting and everything! Or just having a TT deck that fits your character that they can bust out during off hours or over a drink.

I mentioned the IC TT deck idea elsewhere, actually, and I think it could be loads of fun. Cards that fit the character themselves, or a "gimmick" theme where all the cards follow a specific pattern. Obviously, it would have to be for more casual "winning doesn't really matter" interactions as opposed to, say, player-created tournaments... but I think it could make for an interesting ice-breaker or something besides just leaning on railings and grabbing drinks at the Quicksand.

"Hey, you play Triad?" could be a new opening line for interactions.

Chachan's Deck: Chocobo/Cactuar/Tonberry/Behemoth/Godbert (3/5 complete! :D )

Judge's Deck: Demon Wall/Titan/Odin/Bahamut/Gaius

I've been tossing around the idea of triad as being a way to resolve RP fights...like Yugi-oh or something (CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYLES!)

.. this is a semi serious post.

... I just realized that you can't play TT on the backs of your mounts, and now I'm suddenly disappointed. CARD GAMES ON CHOCOBOS. Play while you race and win while you win!
