I don't know a thing about windows 8 or Tuneup, but I can tell you running the game in Windowed mode eliminates the need for alt-tabing. ^^

Agreed 100% with OP. And the whole "don't pick the highest population server it's stupid" is a stupid statement, considering the issue has been happening on all servers. Silly users. I really hope they compensate people for this... but knowing their track record with FF XIV 1.0, I think they will.

Technically, if your character is in game and you, the player, are not in front of your computer, then you're not having fun are you? And you're preventing someone (who also paid the same money you did!) who *could* be having fun, from having any (at least in the game). So I can't answer your question, because the question itself is unrelated to the situation. Now I'm not trying to guilt-trip you or anyone else. I'm simply stating my opinion as you stated yours.

Mhmmm bacon! Welcome in! Nobody can give you accurate numbers, but those leading (or recruiting for) the server's OOC Rper Linkshell's could give you an idea. On both servers, we're in the three digits. And we need more than one Linkshell (them having a cap of 128 members,that should give you an idea). There is no shortage of RPêrs either way.

Sharding rocks, as long as it's done right. I remember being mad at GW2 because it would send people to "overflow servers" regardless of people being in parties. Same goes for TSW's shards.

Just a little bit to add to lady2beetle's post above... There's 1017 on all servers, at least at peak hours. Not just Balmung and Gilgamesh. While we may create characters elsewhere, we still won't be able to play them all that much. This is the first time in a few years I consider myself lucky to be off work even though it's for health-related reasons, because it means I can log in early (but don't envy me o_O). And play. I'm not gonna log in and afk. Even now I could be logged in "just to be sure" but as long ass I'm browsing forum, I'm not gonna do that. However there is hope! We're gonna bigger data centers. Hopefully we get an auto-kick feature too... but that's not been announced.

You have to realize that the issues we're having now are temporary. Extremely annoying while they last, but temporary. Once it's all fixed and done, what will happen? You'll have a lot of folks all spread out all over the severs. In most (perhaps not all, but surely most) cases, those players will realize that their server doesn't have much of a RP community. So RPers will do what they always do when this happens... they'll migrate to a server with a bigger RP community. Been there, done that... so this time I'm staying right where I am and hoping my patience with these issues will be rewarded by stability. I don't mean to shut down the idea. I'm only saying this to warn against the possibility of rushing out pursuing false hopes. I did say possibility, not certainty, as perhaps it's on of those newer servers that will be the Last Bastion of RP. I don't know. I'm simply evaluating my chances and picking what I think is the safest choice.

And that's why I'm saying auto-kicking afkers is more important than adding servers. *nodnods*

Hansem, welcome in! Drahem, good answers! I've seen some people use Yell (yellow) instead of Shout but Shout seems to be the "general channel". I'm not even sure what the difference is between the two. o_O Say (white) has a short range and is used for RP or just random chit-chat for non-Rpers... in crafting guild areas, people sometimes use Say to ask question about how stuff works, too.

I realized today that the whole issue isn't with the developers, this time. It's the players who log in and afk for hours, in case they wouldn't be able to log in later. They're the only reason servers are so full amd therefore the only reason people are now looking for other servers to call home. The only thing the devs can do about it is implement an auto-kick feature, which I hope they do.

Did you guys remove me from the guildportal site? I use the same name as here, Asyria... was trying to tell you I might not make it to my initiation cause I've been unable to get in the game after an hour of trying, but now I can't even get on your website either. O_O I reset my password and still no good.

Problem is, those of us who are either Legacy or rolled on either server in Phase 4 are facing either being stuck there or abandoning all their progress. Not to mention their connections to other people in the same situation, unless everyone agrees to do a Mass Migratory Reroll (not gonna happen). So the solution to just roll elsewhere only works for newcomers, really. Which sucks for everyone because established players love new blood and newcomers love having stuff already there they can join in (of course, this is a generalization in both cases).
