  6. Personally, when Adriel is in awe, she tends to say "Sweet Twelve!" Which is kinda the same level as "Holy sh**!"
  7. I love that braid! *considers giving her miqo a braid*
  8. Stupid question for website admin... once I've created an event how do I edit it and/or delete it? I screwed up the event I created but I can't seem to fix it. Help! Neeeeeeeeeeever mind. There's an 'edit' button that I swear wasn't there a day ago. Nothing to see here, move along!!
  9. I love these ideas! I think most of what I had in mind is actually right on par with your suggestions. For example: I don't mind being there every week, but at one point we had thougth about passing around the leadership of a given Happy Hour each week so that no one has to do it too often. The reason is that I picture a "GM" (EM? Event Master?) would be able to emote random NPCs that might come looking for jobs. They could be things simple and something that the RPers could RP doing during the week. Examples might include: Find my missing chocobo egg! Find a good dish for the dinner my wife is hosting! Watch my daughter while I'm on this business trip! By passing around the "NPC-Master" role each week, then we all have time to come up with new ideas. And my hope is that some of these 'missions' have the potential to open up RP during the week - maybe the hero creates several dishes and brings them to Soliloquy so others can help him decide which one is best! Depending on how busy it gets, we might very well need Free Companies to lead on given weeks - I can't imagine one person handling 5 or 6 NPCs at once. But the beauty is that we can start this small and expand however we want. As far as the linkshell... I hadn't thought of that. We should do some more brainstorming on what the purpose of the linkshell would be. Maybe we should have one for event coordinators... but if we give a pearl to everyone, doesn't that just make it Intermission Pt 2? Then again, Intermission is full, so maybe that's what we need... I dunno... I'm open to suggestions. Lastly, as far as Free Company Recruiters, I think any recruiters and PC merchants are welcome every week. I mean, they ARE looking for heroes to work for them in some fashion, right? That's what this event is all about. I should add - I do think that any Free Companies or groups wanting to present a larger event to happen at the Happy Hour should let me (and/or anyone else who might be helping me coordinate it) know ahead of time. I want to avoid having two major events or plots developing at the same time.
  10. Hmm... good point... Thank you for bringing that up, I'm a dork. Part of my answer is that this is a weekly thing so it'll be every Sunday. And the 1st would be the only one that conflicts with a Gilgamesh party. At the same time, we don't to wait until the 8th to unveil our surprise. We might have to change the day of the week for this first event. I'll ponder our options. What time is the Gilgamesh beach party? Maybe we can work around it.
  11. I have some more commissions to plug shamelessly! A Fool's Paradise - https://artistsnclients.com/people/a-fools-paradise http://i.imgur.com/FSwFd0V.jpg[/img] Nhibii - https://artistsnclients.com/people/Nhibii http://i.imgur.com/sLSk73k.jpg[/img]
  12. A few of us are working on fleshing this out and this is what we've come up with. The PC-run "adventurer's guild" is not a different 'guild' from the in game Adventurer's guild. A better name for it might be "Adventurer's Guild Happy Hour". It's intended to be an event once a week when characters come looking for work, or for other characters to come looking for someone to do a job for them. And for all players to come looking for RP. It might also be called a weekly "open house". That said, a few people have shown interest, so I'm going to go ahead and start it. If you'd like, consider this just a weekly RP gathering on Balmung. We don't need many people to make it work, and I plan on being there every week - so feel free to come and join me! We have only 2 things left to decide. 1. Where should it take place? My thoughts: The more exposure the better, but having it in an actual adventurer's guild may cause us to be under the feet of people who are questing. We'd probably like it inside, so outiside the adventurer's guild may be hard. One option is to find a nice building in a major city so we could advertise via general chat. Another option is to buy a hosue in Mist and make that an Adventurer's guild satelite office. I'm open for suggestions! 2. When should it be? At this point, I'm considering either Sunday afternoon (~12noon PDT) or Monday evening (~3PM PDT). The latter is often a good time for most events, but Sunday would allow more of our European friends to join us, which I think would be nice. Does anyone have a preference?
  13. Hmm... I am intrigued! I'm not a legacy player, so I need time to flesh out my character, but I'll definitely keep you all in mind! Adriel has always been an anti-hero of sorts.
  14. Admittedly, this is also why I shudder at the very idea of grouping up with people in a more action-based combat MMO. WoW is bad enough - you couldn't get involved in raiding without it being this total contest - could you hit the right buttons at exactly the right times to maximize your dps output? DPS became an e-peen contest and it was doing that in a way that made me think an even more active combat would be even more prone to e-peen competitions. *shudders* It's like that PVP battle between The Guild and their opponents where they are all spamming buttons and winner takes all. It might appeal to some people, but not to me. In table top D&D, to use another example, it is a LOT more strategic. And cooperative. It's like the opposite of "twitch", because the players may take time to set out their battle plan before each move. And guess what? No e-peen competition! At least not in the groups I play with. That's why it really makes me happy that FFXIV is moving more in the direction of the latter. More strategy, more cooperation, less reflex. *shrugs*
  15. I don't know that I agree with this at all. For me it's not the fact that I'm older. It's the fact that the active combat systems simply do not appeal to me. I confess to being a "clicker" because I'm not interested in memorizing the keybinds for every ability. Then again, maybe it comes down to what we were raised on. I grew up on Turn-based RPGs such as Might & Magic and other similar strategy games. At least on the PC. Consoles are a little different, I'll admit. Still, even the first FF games were primarily turn-based. That's what I cut my teeth on and what I prefer. In fact, one reason I avoided WoW for so long was that it wasn't turn-based and I was really worried that I couldn't keep up with an active combat (I use active here because this was back in 2000 or so). I've tried to play more active combat games and maybe I've not been playing the *right* games, but Deux Ex and even Mass Affect are simply not the games for me. I'm not good at them and in fact they make me nauseous. And real 1st person shooters? HAH! That's just comical. I'd be that one going, "Ack! Where am I shooting? What button do I push?!" Noooo thank you. So... I don't know if I can argue that it is based on the gaming community getting older, but I can definitely tell you I see a lot of the "twitch" that gives the active combat its nick name and I'll pass, thank you very much. Edit: BTW, I am aware that the games I mentioned are not the kind that you all refer to as 'active combat', but in my understanding, they are even less so, and they are all I've had experience with, so if I can't handle them, I don't think there's any point in my wasting money on something even more intense.
  16. I confess, 1000 words is on my itunes playlist of most commonly played songs. Go head, shun me now. -.- OKlQ9_7A-Hc
  17. [*] Offtopic a bit, but I felt compelled to point out that Miqo'te have a heightened sense of smell, but normal hearing. Some elezen (duskwight specifically) have sharp hearing. These are good good situations to ponder over for someone who might actually use this. It would certainly add complication. [*] Haha! Thank you for the correction. I shall incorporate it. My bad!
  18. Oh, I've absolutely been considering the implications. Hypothetical: wealthy elezen merchant heiress who might be in love with miqo'te boyfriend. Miqo'te boyfriend's enemy curses elezen, then leaves her for miqo'te to find. Implications: Does BF believe it's you? Does he assume this is all a hoax? Does he think his GF is dead? Next, your sister. How do you tell your sister that you really are the elezen she knows despite having a tail and cat ears? How are you going to convince her? How are you going to avoid the shock, disbelieve, shame and embarrassment of the rest of your house hold? Physically? Miqo'te have sharp hearing. Elezen have decent hearing, I understand, but nothing like the Miqo'te. That will take some getting used to. You used to be tall - now you are short. How annoying! And that tail! What the hell is a tail good for anyway? Rumors spread quick and the evidence doesn't look good: Miqo'te is dating merchant heiress --> Merchant heiress disappears --> Miqo'te is now dating another miqo'te who claims to be merchant heiress. What would YOU assume to be happening? It's almost like that old movie Face Off, only different. So what do you do? Do you stay and try to fight for your identity? Or do you leave to carve a new one? Whichever you pick, there are going to be people who constantly suspect that its a big scam and the real you has been a victim of foul play. And there's nothing you can do to prove otherwise...
  19. Aaaand, another link: http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html - use the D&D version (at the bottom) for point buy. 32 points. Also: starting gold is 500g for all characters. Characters are 1st level. So far we have a paladin, a barbarian and a wizard. Could probably use a healer.
  20. Okay, just a few more resources to throw out there: https://app.roll20.net/home/ - we'll use this to run the game. http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumhome.php - a good tool to use to create your characters. http://www.d20srd.org/ - the SRD with all the rules you might possibly need.
  21. Alright, so here's the plan. I'll be prepared to run a D&D 3.5 game tonight starting at 6PM CDT. If it goes well, we'll see about doing another one. If you are interested, I only ask that you join us in Skype (see here!) It'll be a lot easier for us to communicate that way. We will be using the 3.5 SRD. If it's not in the SRD it's not available for tonight. If you don't know how to play, that's okay! Get on skype, let me know and Ill make up a character for you to try out tonight. Any other questions - friend me on skype and ask!
