  1. I may sign onto this 'loosely'. In so much that I do not like the idea of roleplayers being exclusive as such, but I do like the idea in so much that the community helping each other is a good thing. So long as word gets out. Unless the intent is this to be solely exclusive to the RPC. Then yeah, 'eh'.
  2. Pssst. Which Grand Company are you basing off of?
  3. The only code you may have to deal with is the actual game registration code, I imagine? Proof that you purchased your copy and all. I'd be surprised if the early-access code counted for that, considering how, ah, easy those are to illegitimately obtain.
  4. Managed to get through and get my 20 Digit. Should I be attaching this to my beta account? I'm operating under the assumption I'll be able to 'upgrade' this to my main account. Otherwise... how else would I play my character?
  5. Summoning Carbuncle probably isn't the biggest accomplishment, which is why the Arcanist Storyline doesn't really acknowledge it. Going into the lower levels of the Arcanist guild shows that the Carbuncles actually need some level of training to be useful. So... it's probably just a 'congratulations, you can do what your fellow Arcanists can do. Now make it capable of walking a straight line with out falling over.' As much as I love Carbuncle, I think the lack of 'connection' is intended, so we don't feel bad when we lose access to the little ball of neon fluff.
  6. Odds are he was talking about the unlocked Jobs, yeah.
  7. I'd personally suggest -not- dividing your INT and MND as a Arcanist, for one simple reason; Scholar gets access to Cleric Stance, making that split useless. If you -really- want to duo as a healer for another class, just pick up Conjurer > White Mage, and focus your points into INT as an Arcanist for Summoner. If you want a sub-DPS as Scholar... you can just turn on Cleric Stance and DPS. If you really want the DPS flag as a Caster for Duty Finder, there's Black Mage. If you really want to hybrid your Arcanist, you're actually losing options, than gaining them. But, to each their own.
  8. The distinct lack of Blizzard/Fire spam, sold me. Also? Because making something established, better, has it's own appeal equal to making something, established.
  9. Well, wasn't 3102 foretold? Or, was that 2013? Oh well.
  10. This is an especially good point, and one that I am torn on. The best linkshells/guilds I've been in have been the ones that I've been a part of from the ground up. That being said, I am hesitant to commit entirely to a FC right now because the game hasn't launched yet and who knows whether the company will be around in six months to a year from now. There's something to consider joining a fresh FC, one that you personally can help build up. My advice is mostly geared toward the ones that have been around since 1.0, or the earlier Beta Phases. Definitely consider my caution to any established FC. Not that you won't fit in or anything like that, but simply because you need to use your wiggle room, and time to grow. I'm considering forging my own FC, but I'm not really rolling up an RP concept that can be actually be a -real- leader. More of a 'THINKS she is, but is really just being humored'. So, yeah. My OOC leadership abilities are invalid~!
  11. My suggestion: Take your time. Crystal Tower won't be out for a few months, and the Labyrinth shouldn't require you to commit ASAP. Shop around. Every player is going to be as valuable as the next. Don't pre-emptively tie yourself down to anyone. Get to know what you're getting yourself into, above all else. The best way to ruin your game experience, is to jump toward the first, second, or third offer. The people that you're most likely to enjoy, are the people who are going to understand why it's best to shop around when it comes to RP. OOCly signing myself onto something which little to no IC RP development just seems... bizzare to me. But it never hurts to pick up a few linkshells. Just, personally? Don't join a Free Company yet. Give it a week or two at least.
  12. Add-Ons will not be implemented for quite a long time, so you'd have little to work with besides out-of-game dice rollers. It's a novel idea, but merchant companies are not lacking. Although your interest of a 'IC Auction House' is an interesting hook. Not terribly interested myself, but wished to let you know that Add-Ons are scheduled in the future, not anytime soon.
  13. It's been noted in the thread before, but I'll tip my hat into this as well; A good 'Player' Villain goes in with two things well understood. 1) Your purpose is to further enhance the 'heroes', be it through triumph or drama, hopefully both. 2) Your purpose is to ultimately lose. While some will disagree on this, I feel my experience is enough to warrant my opinion. If anyone disagrees, that's fine. You will not change my opinion and I will not argue with you, because I simply do not care to. If you do not approach with both in your arsenal, you will fail as a villain. If your mindset is geared into 'winning', you have failed as hard as you possibly can. While there are examples of the villain ultimately 'winning' in the end, this is not really a possibility in an MMO. And even so, this is done so rarely because it is very rarely successful. Even rarer, in truth, is a properly-done PC-driven villain, because more often than not they fail to have both 1) and 2) in their mindset. This is when you have the overbearing individual who insists on their victory above all else, or insists on developing their character above the heroes. This is not to say, as noted, your villain cannot win battles. You just must, at the end of the day, accept that you are meant to lose the war. You will be defeated. You will be killed, mysteriously vanish, or be converted. Do not try to be one of those rare villains in literature that comes out ahead. Not only does this show a massive lack of experience in good storytelling, but it immediately puts the persona of a Mary Sue upon your head. If the 'heroes' empower your victories, triumphs, and so on? That is something else. But never, ever, try to force your victory. As well, do not feel your villain cannot become developed. Your goal, in the end, is to leave a lasting impression, an impact that will not be so easily swept over. The best villains are the ones that do not need 'death', 'destruction', or 'anarchy' en-masse to be remembered. When it comes to villainous 'groups', please be the one who backstabs the others. Evil is not fond of evil, and rarely do they share common goals. You, yes YOU, are number one. They are stepping stones. Crush them beneath your feet, because they are a greater threat than any hero will ever be. Villainous groups will also need to make sure they have the noted mentality as well. Do not try to win the war, that is not why you exist. You exist to enrich the story of others, and to empower further exploits of grand heroism. You are meant to bring about an epic drama, with out falling into disastrous, overused stereotypes. Go in ready to go out in a blaze of glory. Now, on the flip side? Heroic PCs need to acknowledge that you need to be willing to lose the battle every so often, although a proper villain player will ensure nothing will happen with out your consent as well. The goal is to make a story. While you will ultimately be the victor in the very end, you should not be invincible, or end the tale with no scars. A proper heroic PC player must be humble, realizing when the time is right for one of their losses to take place. They must not let the ultimate end of being the victor get to their head, as a grand epic does not take place when he or she that is invincible, curb-stompeths. The Hero and Villain relationship is very delicate, and certain steps must be planned out. When properly executed, the impression it will have on all parties involved, will be worth the time spent. In the end, this is all just my opinion. I've run into far too many would-be villains that aim to come out on top. Aim to be the 'winner'. This is unhealthy in many forms for roleplaying, especially in something as hard to force into shape as an MMO. To both sides; be reasonable. Know your goals. Remember the outcome, but do not meta the outcome.
  14. Haha, I've been thinking of doing exactly that. Anyone wanna join? Of the sort. In fact, this is probably a better label: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CaptainErsatz There's nothing inherently wrong with it, so long as you take your own direction with the character! That's probably my only advice for you; take your own direction at this point. That way, she's your character after the backstory fact.
  15. I think that may be because they admitted to more or less being a 'Kid' proxy from Chrono Cross, in the initial post. Probably why the archetypes fit into place so well. Either way, no real comments to make. It's a proxy, after all. Nothing bad to say!
  16. And Nel did an excellent job! Love the videos!
  17. But did you? I notice your Server tag is still missing! I hope that it did help, honestly. Oh, well. We've all decided on Balmung, with an eye on Gilgamesh as things unfold. I suppose I'll add that~ Hopefully Balmung doesn't get squish filled. 'Squish Filled'? Never heard this term before!
  18. But did you? I notice your Server tag is still missing! I hope that it did help, honestly. Oh, well. We've all decided on Balmung, with an eye on Gilgamesh as things unfold. I suppose I'll add that~
  19. I'm glad other people have found use from this thread! Yay!
  20. I'm viewing numerous locked threads on it, with one of the biggest reasons being comparing real-world situations to FFXIV, and how it spirals out of control from there to erupting emotions. In fact, most of these threads locked by a moderator post, specifically ask people to stop doing this due to how volatile it turns the conversation. You may have been suspended for not obliging this. I'm still reading them all, though.
  21. I'm trying to find the original, big thread about this. Mostly, the moderator closing post, and what they were asking people to do, and not to do. That said, yes. In a manner of looking at it, you may have been suspended due to how your approach could be viewed. I could suggest you fight it and clarify yourself, but it does depend on what we were asked to do in the previous thread on the official forums, before it got shut down. You may want to check that out, but ugh. Forum digging.
  22. Seeing as the uncalled for name-calling and insults are not subsiding from synaesthetic, as much as I may support the idea? I cannot support the individual putting it forward. There is too much of a likelihood for my name to be behind something that will be too far beyond my given limits. I wish the effort lucks, however. But it seems nothing has changed. The only outcome I see with attitudes like this, unfortunately?
  23. Oh definitely. Despite the frustration expressed in my posts, not having to deal with people telling me and others that we're abominations was refreshing! Kudos to the community for that. You put a cat in a sweater. IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. You're a monster. PS: Would have posted sooner, but Naut sniped me with a PM and totally distracted me. It was a clever tactic. PSS: Oh, what I was going to say - It does seem like bad form to close a thread when 'hostilities' have calmed, and people are coming to a reasonable understanding and openly trying to figure out what would be the best, most acceptable approach. It sends a bit of a negative, confusing message.
  24. ... It's called a blanket statement. It was a broad thing. We DO see this kind of thing every so often, as unfortunate as it is. And, it has been shown here. Also, I'm not going to bother quoting the two prime examples of this, again. Go back a page or two. You're searching really hard for only negatives, and other people have called you out. If this is all you're capable of, then unfortunately our conversation ends here, not just for my sake, but for everyones. People are looking into this as a funny loophole. It should NOT be required, but it's hilarious. Definitely. I'm going to wait closer to November to start getting really active with it. Personally, I'm of the mind of if someone doesn't want virtual gay marriage, they shouldn't have one. We will have ours without them. :3 I grew up in the 90s. Vibrant clashing colors don't register as bad to me. LOL! ... I forgot about the 90s. How did I do that. I loved tye-dye. ... Welp.
